Antonios Mexican Food

Good place kinda odd, empty as hell, menu is extremely lacking and it’s not mexican food it California tropical food as the owner himself called it. Lack of drinks, broken down machines, dirty tables. Tried the California burrito it was pretty damn good, pretty big and filled with lots of meat. I think the place just makes things a little odd n makes the experience lack luster n in enjoyable !
FYI– there is no such thing as California burrito, carne asasa fries, fish or shrimp tacos or all the other tropical bs you ignorant fks think is «authentic mexican» that’s all California food made for California’s !!! Just a lesson in real mexican food! So stop calling it authentic or mexican cuz it’s not mexican it’s Californian food!

This place is odd. The menu has about 5 items, and they’re all variations on the same thing. It’s truly a we-don’t-make-it-till-you-order-it place because there are no customers. I had to stand around for several minutes before someone emerged to cook my order.
I ended up trying the Super Nachos, which were so greasy I could barely eat a quarter of them. I gave the rest to my husband and not even he could get through that much grease.
The guac and the salsas are good, but for the grease levels I don’t think I’ll be back.

My high school son loves the carne asada fries. My husband tried their fish burrito yesterday and loved it, for the taste as well as not overly greasy/​oily. The menu is fairly simple. Price is reasonable, and conveniently located for us.

The customer photos shown here are from a better day. Currently this place is falling apart. Don’t get me wrong though, I love a good Mexican dive; makes me think I’m in Mexico eating street food.
Their menu has maybe 12 items, many of which are just variants of the same thing (veggie burrito versus carne asada). They were out of 2 items when I was there, Tortilla chips (for Nachos) and Rolled Tacos. That doesn’t leave much else. The place was empty, but perhaps their best items are the ones they ran out of. Their Carne Asada was chewy. Their hot salsa was good though. I’m not likely to ever eat here again.

I am not sure how many stars to give this place, it was such a bizarre combination of yea and nay.
I am not even sure its Antonio’s anymore. The menu changed and is very limited to a small amount of tacos (4) burritos (4 – 5) and nacho’s and quesadilla’s.
I had the taco combo. The Carne asada was to die for. So tasty.
The shrimp was so-​so, but both were nice and hot.
The beans were like light brown library paste. Both the rice and beans were just awful.
Most peculiar.

Went here a few weeks ago and tried the California Burrito. It’s pretty good but definitely not one of the top Mexican spots that I’ve tried.
They don’t do anything specifically well or anything disappointing. If you’re in the area, I’d say stop by and feed your hunger.

They are very friendly but the food is just what I’d expect from the thousands of Mexican food spots in San Diego. Nothing really stands out and nothing is worth disapproving. My only gripe might be the hot sauce is kinda watery for my liking; otherwise the place is well… A-​OK!

! they serve fresh food all day, the california burrito is a must have if u come here. love how every week they have a different soup. sometimes they have cocido, menudo or birria! makes my mouth water just thinking about it. and the two guys working in the afternoon on weekends are hella hot! i would love to have a bite of they’re chorizo taco! wink wink

let me start by saying one of the unspoken rules of Unilocal is «do not trust somebody with 1 review». this is a great place! everything is pretty fresh they cook the carne asada as you order it.

There is a new owner already! Not even 6 months in business and a sign says new management. And, things have certainly changed.
$ 1 fish tacos — GONE!
free refills on drinks — GONE! Bring fiddy cent if you want a refill.
This, once very happy customer — GONE!
It is just aching to close its doors for the final time… don’t waste any money here.

I’ve had better
Nice to have a TV while you wait for your order though especially during a Charger game. Didn’t see any patrons having lunch or ordering here especially around ~1pm. So I thought maybe I’d get something fresh, but unfortunately NOT. It seemed the grill hadn’t been used for a while and the staff had been watching TV for so long that they forgot where they were when I had entered the store.
All in all I’ve been there a few times thinking it may get better. However, not sure how long this place is going to last if there is more tortilla than carne asada on my California Burrito

It’s dangerous to have this place by the gym but it’s super delicioso. I’ve had the rolled tacos and fish burrito and they’re the best I’ve ever had. Also, after leaving the gym. Even my dog knows how good it is. He grabbed the first chance to snag my fish burrito when I left the room. So I went back to Antonio’s the next day and ate it there.
