Arelys French Bakery

The pastries and food are good. They need to step up on their coffee and use an expresso machine. I stopped going just because of that.

I like this place a lot! Nice, cozy and clean atmosphere. They make some pretty tasty paninis and have a great selection of pastries. I absolutely love their pear tart.

Their coconut cake is the most delicious cake I’ve had in San Diego. The employee is very kind and patient with my indecisiveness.

This used to be my favorite place for breakfast. After moving away this is the first time I’ve been back in about 6 months. While the expansion is now complete and it looks nice inside the customer service that initially had me coming back several times a month is gone. The prices have gone up — $ 6.50 for two little pancakes! Just pancakes. This is also the first time I’ve ever had my eggs both be burnt and undercooked at the same time. I didn’t even think that was possible.
Absolutely disappointing to drive an hour for pancakes and eggs and be expected to pay so much. I used to rave about this place and recommend it to everyone. It’s very disheartening to know I won’t be able to do that anymore.

I’m always in search of a kid friendly breakfast spot in the neighborhood and sadly Arelys’ not it. My girls and I always seem to be at Clairemont Square and have been here quite a few times. You’ve to remember they are a bakery first, café second.
Come for basic coffee, croissants, plain eggs, fresh fruits, and sweets. I love their croissants and we were fortunate enough to get those consistently done right. We’ve had crepes, eggs, french toast, pancakes, hot chocolates and countless pastries.
Came here on a Saturday and they were moderately busy. Before ordering crepes I asked if they make fresh whip cream and explained that my family doesn’t like anything too sweet. We were told they don’t make fresh whip cream. Assuming they are unable to control the sweetness of cream on their Fruit Crepes, I ordered it anyway to try. My kids ended up scraping off the whipped topping and ate bare crepes and fresh fruits. I ordered Hot Chocolates without whip cream but they neglected to leave it off, the drink in itself was already too sweet and the whipped cream topping was overkill, so I had to ask for extra hot water to lessen the kick. The French Toast was dry and the pancake was tasteless, nut fluffy and the syrup was horrible. The Eggs, Bacon and Sausage plate had undercooked bacon and cold sausage but the eggs were done right and so I ate the eggs with the side of toast and butter/​jam.
Next time, I plan on paninis but it will be my final sit-​down meal visit unless it is a promising visit.

Great crosanants and bakery
Almond crosanants solid favorite, as good or better than Paris.
Just expanded restaurant, but haven’t tested sit diwn since. Previous lunch and dinner meals were always tasty, innovative and good value.

Ordered French Toast and bacon… it looked and tasted like it was heated up from the previous day. Won’t be eating here again.

Had breakfast there but it wasn’t as good as reviews make it.
Go there for their almond croissants! Deliciouuuuus!

Just had an absolutely delicious vanilla coconut cake slice here yesterday. So, if you’re looking for a place for a really good dessert and coffee… you have found it. You can sit inside or in their outdoor patio area.

Came here at 7:20 pm to kiss the closed door although they were supposed to be open till 8pm. Lady inside was pretending we are invisible. Apparently hours are very flexible here.

Immediately the cute pastries call you in and then to the left the café set up has an intimate feel, especially with the music they provide…
It took me awhile to decide what to eat, but they were comically patient with me which I had appreciated but they didn’t really give any suggestions other than «everything is good» which I normally I’m like «sure»…but I was struggling to decide.
Anyways, I ordered a ham and pineapple panini and a hot chocolate. The meal arrived after some wait and the results were: no hot chocolate yet, no salad dressing on the salad, and a panini with half the cheese not melted. Additionally there were only a few «pineapple chucks»…which made it only a ham and cheese panini. I told them that there were only a few pieces and they responded «keep biting around»…which I did and only found two more little chucks of pineapple.
When the lady delivered my plate, I reminded her about my hot chocolate, and she never came back with it. I had to get up and ask at the cash register for it… and when they delivered my hot chocolate and asked if salad dressing normally comes with the salad, and they replied saying yes and apologize and brought some salad dressing.
I’m very disappointed with my visit. I had to work in the morning and I decided to get off the bus on my way back home just to eat here… and I was let down by the food and service. :/

Always love coming here! I love their food and the vibes. Too bad that they microwave their quiche. And when they run out of coffee, it takes more than 20 minutes to refill their coffee dispensers.
I’m still a fan though!

Delicious food.
French bakery run by Mexicans, so the pastries may taste French, but the staff won’t understand anything if you try to order in French.
They just expanded the location, remodeled, and extended their menu. Now you can get crepes!
All the pastries are bomb and coffee is top notch.
Support this café, it’s a hidden gem.

Arley’s is amazing. The food, the service and the price are all exceptional. We’ve eaten here a dozen times and it’s always great. The pastry and dessert options are fantastic too.
Get the Brie and avocado omelette!

Very friendly staff, great food, and sitting outside is great for a large group. Everyone liked what they got for breakfast. I was a fan of the eggs benedict and the potatoes were nice and crispy. The croissant was buttery and fresh. Almost certainly the best breakfast option in the immediate area.

Killer birthday cakes. Got my sister’s b’day cake there. Don’t remember exactly what kind of cake it was but tasted GREAT. Very nice for breakfast too.

Chocolate almond croissants! Can not say enough about them. I have picked up a box to share with my coworkers on several occasions and we have dubbed them the «Crack Croissants». They are simply that good. Even the picky eaters in my office love them. Flaky outside, moist on the inside, delicious through and through.

Big big fan of Arelys. I don’t even want to get started on how amazing all of the pastries and treats are! I have also had breakfast here once before they expanded and now about 4 – 5 times since they opened up more seating. I love the cafeteria style… Order up at the front, grab your coffee, wait for your food, eat a great dish. The different breakfasts I have ordered are the breakfast crêpe, the egg veggie crêpe, and the oatmeal pancakes with bananas. All were each about a ⁴⁄₅ stars… a few things could have been altered to make each just a little more delicious. But overall, I’m very glad I live close by.

Hey, I realized I was only writing bad rating reviews, and this is the first store that came to mind in order to redeem myself. I am sure more nice reviews will come, and I have to make it a point, in order to cultivate my cheerfulness. So here it is…
This bakery’s awesome, one of the best in San Diego. Too bad I’m writing this, as it should remain a secret to the real connoisseur, and keep it away from those fancy La Jolla «boulangeriiiiiie» wannabees LOL

This bakery has fresh European pastries and bread. It is a little gem and would definitely come back again!

I can’t decide which item is the best here… The flavorful food, the fresh bold coffees or the beautiful pastries!
I’m beyond pleased each time I come back to try something new. The colorful French macaroons are my absolute favorite. I love that the pastry chef is always offering new flavors! The cakes & desserts are gorgeous– definitely baked with love Which brings me to the perfect Heart Tarts, the cutest heart shaped raspberry filled tart cookies perfect to share with loved ones on Valentine’s Day or to enjoy on your own

I can’t say enough good things about this place. Great coffee, amazing pastries, friendly workers, FAST excellent service, delicious food, and kid friendly! My new go to for breakfast. Our server (can’t remember his name, guy with dreadlocks) went above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you guys!

I was looking for a simple different place for breakfast. Found this little place. The environment is casual, not pretentious.
It was hard to choose what to eat, there were such tasty choices. Once the food came it was a great surprise. The fruit beside the food was fresh cut and perfect.
The staff was friendly and checking on us regularly.
Then we decided to try the pastry. It was the most delicious fruit tart.

They’ve expanded! The last time I was here their café fit like, 3 people and was extremely crowded. It’s still fairly crowded but now the indoor seating makes the place feel more spacious.
I’ve stopped in twice for their cinnamon roll and their macarons. Cinnamon roll wasn’t as delicious as other places, but they do have pretty good palmiers! I’ve had their baguettes, and they make for a great side to a salad or used as sandwich breads.
My favorites, of course, are their macarons. I’m a lover of everything macarons, and my only complaint is that they don’t have a huge variety of flavors — there’s only 6 of them (pistachio, raspberry, coconut, hazelnut, vanilla, and a mocha/​chocolate that didn’t quite taste like anything).
Our service was quick and attentive. All in all, I’m happy to come back and try actual breakfast here to experience more of what Arely’s has to offer.

Just discovered this place. .I will never be skinny again! Crème Brule to DIE for. Perfect texture, perfect glass like glaze. Chocolate mousse that is light and fluffy, happy mouth! Even the cookies are so tasty, with a faintly biscotti weight and crumble to them.
The Fettuccine Primavera and Shrimp Riviera both come in their red sauce. Can’t place the spices, but loved every bite. Lots of veggies, perfectly cooked and of course, bread. Even enjoyed the French music in the background! Highly recommend for that casual time out with your sweetie!

Came here when I was visiting my brother since it was close to his house. He always wanted to check it out but apparently was uncomfortable with the idea of going as a single guy by himself. We checked it out after dinner and ordered the almond/​strawberry cake and some coffees. Good sized cake slices (for individual if you want, and enough to share if you feel like too) and decent self-​serve coffee out of a pot (like in Panera). Large place, relaxing vibes, but it was completely empty when we went. If I lived around there, I’d go to get some baguettes, bakery items, or quick stop for breakfast to go! The inside décor was not so «girly» so I’m sure my brother will end up going on his own to do what I just mentioned. The seating area kind of reminds me of a family restaurant… I’m giving 3 stars, but I did enjoy the place and think it’s worth checking out~

Shared a Brie panini = no Brie in sight; bread was good.
French onion soup = flavorless
Hubs ordered escargot (I know, I know, but it’s a French* place and being that it was $ 10 we thought it would be legit). Result: kind you get in a can rubbery, it just looked like it was microwaved with cheese on top.
Lastly; got my fav — Macarons … Coconut was fresh and delish and the other two were stale and obviously old because they were incredibly CHEWY. Water cup had residue … :-/​
This night was my cheat night and I’m sorely disappointed. Should have just gotten take out. Booo

My fiancé likes to spoil me with little goodies and he brought me here after dinner. I picked a slice of their black forest cake (my favorite) and it was one of the most delicious black forest cakes I have had in a very long time!
The service was good, I would definitely come back!
There is plenty of parking out in the front and they have free wi-​fi. They also serve hot foods and have a dining area now. Apparently they renovated within the last year!

I like a good bakery, and this one was not to shabby. I especially like bakeries that make their own croissants such as Arley’s French Bakery. Given they also provide free Wi-​Fi, I came in to get some work done, and enjoy a croissant and some chamomile hot tea.
The croissant tasted good, but it did not have that moist buttery texture inside. It was soft enough, just not buttery as I would expect (
) The outside was flaky with a bit of a crunch and came with a good glistening topping. A good croissant, but I expected better from a French Bakery. The loose leaf tea was good in flavor and aromatics. It came piping hot so I was able to sip on it for a while.
The young lady behind the counter was nice and handles to lunch rush well as the lines formed. In addition to the array of baked goods, they also make breakfast items, salads, soups, and paninis for lunch.

The first time I went to Arely’s I’ll have to confess, was because of the name! This was my Grandfathers first name whom I’ve never met since he died before I was born. So naturally I was curious.
Entering the bakery was delightful as my senses were filled with the wonderful sweet smell only a bakery can possess. Immediately I was drawn to what looked like an almond cannoli dipped in chocolate at the ends. When I inquired about said cannoli, I was delightfully surprised to find out this almond praline cannoli was filled with butter cream! My inner child screamed out (silently of course) oh joy! Order me a dozen and we will eat them for a week!
Well, when I composed myself and returned to my senses I ordered just the one! The butter cream was not too sweet, which is hard to find! The almonds fresh and crunchy. The chocolate just the right amount of sweet.
Then I noticed the cream/​custard filled pastry and ordered one of those. Before I go on let’s just say I learned the hard way not to refrigerate the cream/​custard pastry. Think it does something weird to the custard. When I pulled it out of the refrigerator the next day, the cream was nicely sweetened and light. The pastry was puffy, crunchy and cooked to perfection. The custard kinda was too plain and lost the custard taste, probably because of the refrigerator!
Next time I’ll make sure to eat it on the same day I buy it!
Can’t wait for my next french cannoli!

Arely’s French Bakery is a small and cute shop in Clairemont.
A few of us went to Arely’s for dessert. I ordered the cinnamon roll, and bf ordered the crème brûlée. Both items were just okay. The lady behind the counter asked me if I wanted my cinnamon roll heated (after I had already sat down and started cutting into the cinnamon roll). Both bf and I wished that the sugar on top was «re-​torched». In both cases, both bf and I thought the 2 items were too sweet.

Wow… stopped in here based on a friends recommendation. And was surprised at the portion sizes for their baked goods.
The place was busy with quite a few people who were picking up cakes. This is a good sign that their cakes are quality and tasty.
I tried a raspberry cake. It was a good sized portion. Tasty and not too sweet. Just right.
There is indoor and outdoor seating. They offer not only baked goods but foods items like crepes, sandwiches and various dinner dishes. I sense another trip back here to try out other goodies!
