The Lunch Buffet here ROCKS. I never really got into Indian Food, until my dad took me here once. The tandoori chicken here is juicy and so flavorful, along with the briyani rice, samosas(personal favorite), and several types of curries. Also, the salad with yogurt dressing balances it all out with buttery naan, along with a very refreshing rice dessert(better than the syrup balls). Can’t think of a better restaurant in the Miramar area

Hadn’t been here in awhile, but went out with another couple, who were vegetarian, who like the Monday-night buffet here. We had been here before for the lunch buffet, which we liked, but never for dinner. The choices for vegetarians are great! All the sauces(including on the meat dishes) were delicious. The Daal(also spelled«dal», «dahl» or «dhal») — lentils were delicious, as was the vegetable korma(veggies in a creamy sauce), and the Vegetable Biryani. We ordered Garlic Naan(Indian bread), which was good(slightly dry, even for Naan, but still good). I didn’t indulge in the desserts, but the other three at our table really liked them. Many of the dishes were a little spicy for me, so I was glad I had their good Green Tea, and plenty of water(they often refilled it, for which I was grateful!). Unfortunately, the meat in the meat dishes(lamb, goat, and chicken) was all dry, overcooked, and the lamb and goat were tough and hard to chew. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and helpful. I might have given this restaurant three stars, but the other three at our table raved about the food and, admittedly, everything but the meat itself was delicious. So, because of that, and the good service, they get four stars! When I come back here for dinner, I’ll be a vegetarian for the night, and I’m sure I’ll be very happy!

Very good! Everything tastes delicious! Not spicy at all but flavorful… last time I ordered a home delivery and it sucked but dine in is awesome. I recommend it highly. I came here for a lunch buffet. Though the items looked lesser compared to other Indian buffets, they tasted good. Good vegetarian options.

This is my favorite restaurant in San Diego. My boyfriend and I here come here about twice a month for the lunch buffet. The price is pretty good considering the quality and quantity of the food that’s offered, and they are very consistent. As a vegetarian, I always have options here and my favorite things to get are the vegetable biryani and the nav rattan korma, and luckily they always have the latter. My boyfriend enjoys the chicken dishes and we both love the gulab and kheer desserts. I don’t understand some of the low reviews for this place, it’s really really good!

I love this place, my favorite Indian place in the city. Their paneer is fantastic, like most their food. Every I come to this place, I leave carrying my belly, I just can’t help it. Desert to try as well. Enjoy

Very pleased w Ashoka. It’s located across the way from Miramar H & A car repair, which is a great and honest place to get car repairs. The restaurant is Zagat reviewed and was both clean and had awesome customer service. I was pleasantly surprised to find the lunch buffet had delicious quality food for approximately 10 $ a head. There was fresh complimentary garlic naan w meals like masala, maharani, and a basmati rice mix. They had an array of curry soups and served lamb and goat which were tender and very flavorful. I have really grown to enjoy the flavors of Indian cooking w it’s spices and use of yogurt and mint sauces. The mint sauce was so light and flavorful. I let one of the staff know they would be seeing me more often as this was probably one of the best Indian spots nearby. Yum yum!

Be sure to order rice, because this place doesn’t include it with curry. I paid $ 50 to have 2 curries and 2 ras malai delivered and got no rice. :’(

Came here with a group of Indians — most of whom were not that impressed with the food — or the very slow service. The restaurant did not seem to have many other customers and the reason(s) may have to do with the quality of food and service. I enjoyed my meal — but was surprised and annoyed that everything had to be ordered separately rather than be included as part of the meal(as is common in most other restaurants). My Indian dinner companions were not very complimentary about many items received(cold rather than hot) or not prepared as expected/preferred.

I love the food here and the service is great also. I’ve been here twice for the lunch buffet and trust me I’ll be back many more times. The food is freshly made and they have quite a few options unlike others I’ve been to. Lunch is also pretty cheap so you can’t beat the price.

Great place for AYCE Indian cuisine for lunch! It is never that busy in here, but the food is great. I love the naan that they bring out fresh from the kitchen. The service is great. The place is super clean and spacious. Good for big groups especially at lunch time. I like that they have desserts available at the buffet as well. There isn’t a huge selection of food, but what is available is delicious and they refill the buffet constantly.

This is a regular place that my girlfriend and I visit since it’s near her house and she’s become a regular there for their all-you-can eat lunch buffet. We usually go there for dinner and it’s usually really empty but I don’t think that’s a reflection of the food or service since I found the food and service to be really good. I can’t say that it’s the best Indian food that I’ve had, but it’s solid, inexpensive Indian food in a quiet and casual restaurant with solid service. Sometimes that’s all you need and this is one of those places.

This Ashoka the Great is one of my favorite Indian restaurants. They give complimentary garlic naan bread that is to die for. Their curry was delicious and flavorful. I especially love their kheer(rice pudding) and their gulab jamun. I’ve been to this buffet a couple of times already, and I definitely will keep on going.

My girlfriend recently got mad at me because I shot down her idea to go to himalayan cuisine to instead come here. Worth it! Lot’s of good vegetarian food. Friendly staff. Here’s a tip to people who come here: get a bowl of kheer and mix in a few julabs.

The BEST Indian food in San Diego. I have been coming to Ashoka the Greatest Indian restaurant for many years, I am a huge fan. I introduced Ashoka to many of my friends and co-workers, that all LOVE it. Ashoka has Monday and Tuesday buffet, I highly recommend it — Great selection and all of the flavors are delicious, there is nothing that is overcooked or off. The meats are all juicy, the kebab is well seasoned. I have tired many other Indian restaurants, but Ashoka has the best tasting food by-far, highest quality dishes. Their samosas are authentic, and tastes like home made. Very friendly servers and staff. Fun atmosphere, there are always busy and lots of different larger group of parties — really cool place. I highly recommend Ashoka!!!

Really good mango lassi! Not a very wide variety of dishes but flavors are good. Good place for a quick Indian food craving fix. Nothing bad to say. Place is nice and neat and a nice atmosphere for group lunches.

I dig this place! For me, it has some of the better Indian food in San Diego. They have a lunch(M-F All-u-can– eat, $ 9.95) and dinner(M-T only, All-u-can– eat, $ 14.95) buffet. It is a reasonable price if you are very hungry, and want what is available(the usual Chicken Tikka masala, tandoori chicken, rice, a bunch of veggie dishes…). However, what I LOOOOVE is the Mix Tandoori Grill(16.95) which is a hearty serving of Tandoori chicken, seekh kebab, chicken tikka, lamb tikka, Tandoori fish and shrimp served sizzling with onion and bell pepper. I get the Pillau Rice(5.95) Buttery basmati rice with green peas, diced onions, cashew nuts and saffron. I don’t eat gluten products, but friends have told me the garlic naan is totally addictive All of the flavors are delicious, there is nothing that is overcooked or «off”(have eaten this three times). The meats are all juicy, the seekh kebab is well seasoned and the Pillau rice pairs wonderfully with everything. I have never paid more than $ 50.00 to feed two people to the gills and sometimes have some leftovers for lunch. Staff is always polite and attentive. They do a great job of being there when you need them, and disappearing when you are having a conversation. I live close by this restaurant and have tried the others in the area, always wind up going back to Ashoka for dinner, and Bawarchi for lunch

I went to Ashoka the Great with my girlfriend, my best friend, and his teenage daughter and we all had a great time! His daughter is a vegetarian, and I’m a meatatarian, so this is a nice place for all of us to get something to enjoy. The décor is what one would expect for an Indian restaurant, with a spacious dining room and Indian imagery on the walls. I noticed that the place wasn’t very full, and it was odd that every table that had customers was in a localized spot rather than being spread out. Nevertheless, we started our meal with a round of Mango Lassies, which were wonderfully tart with the right amount of sweetness and mango flavor. This is a great drink to help soothe the pain of intensely hot food. Two orders of Vegetable Samosas gave us enough for one apiece. They’re large and pack a lot of veggies inside as well as a bit of spice. They’re great by themselves, but I also like to dip them in the sauces that come on the side. I forgot what vegetarian dish was ordered, but my friend’s daughter really liked it. The rest of us shared a Mango Chicken and the Mixed Tandoori Grill, and we loved every bite! I’m a big fan of Mango Chicken, and their version features extremely tender chicken with a thick, sweet sauce. As for the Mixed Tandoori Grill, it comes packed with several meats as well as onions and peppers. The portion is large enough to share between 2 – 4 people, and we realized that we could have skipped the Mango Chicken and still had leftovers!
