Avion at Spectrum Apartments

I lived here for a year although had to relocate and never had any major problems, the only thing I would change is the parking situation and the constant noise of planes flying above the area (Montgomery Field Airport nearby). I loved the location because it is literally 10−15min away from everything in SD. I decided to give them 5 stars only because of Chris’ outstanding customer service. He was always very helpful, always in a good mood, and went above and beyond. He is very personable. I have lived in over a handful of apartments throughout the country and I would say that Chris has the best customer service skills and genuinely a good person overall out of anyone I have delt with. Thank you Chris for the great experience as a new resident in California!

I just recently reserved an apartment here and will be moving in next month. So far I cannot find anything wrong with Avion. From the start, the staff have been incredibly helpful and friendly in finding the right apartment for my budget. Chris was the one who showed me the particular apartment that I had been considering and was very patient and concise in answering the many questions I had about the place and all its details. Honestly, he has got to be one of the nicest guys I have ever met and if all of the staff are like him, then I don’t think I’ll have much to worry about for the next year. Great staff, amazing place, and just the right price that I was looking for. So far it’s looking good!

Update** I spoke to the assistant manager about the parking situation, to which I was informed that nothing is going to change and there will most likely be no action taken by the property manager to ensure parking is enforced. So basically, this is lawless country! Love it!

It’s been already 8 months since I moved here and I’m completely satisfied with this complex. The amenities are great, the pool and the spa look amazing. I am from another country, but Christopher, a very professional and kind guy working here, has been amazing with me, helped me a lot when I moved here, answered all of my questions, and even gave me great advice on what to do in San Diego.
Even though the prices are a little expensive, I would and will definitely recommend this place to everybody.

The complex is beautiful and very dog friendly. The area is quiet but has enough to do within walking distance to not feel too secluded. Highly recommend.

I have been here a year and everyday I pull in I feel like I live in a resort. Everytime ive called for anything they have handled it the next day or same day. Ive never had any problems with hearing neighbors and i live on the second floor. I think this place is sound proof! Having outside enterance to ur apartment also makes living in an apartment so much better. Don’t have to deal with dog peeing in the carpet hall ways lol any way I am very picky and have lived in many places as a traveling nurse and this by far is the best!!!

I have been apartment searching for over a month and every time I talk to Avion, it’s been so easy! Chris sold me over the phone. I couldn’t wait to come down and visit. The property is great and I’m so excited to move in next month. Thanks for all your help Chris!

An update to my previous one, which sadly isn’t good.
First and foremost, Chris is the only person that we will deal with, and from other reviews it looks like he is agreeably the best! Keep up the great work Chris!
Now onto the ongoing and new issues.
Parking– still a huge issue! And, the manager says it isn’t going to change and they realize people are parking illegally, blocking others in, and just not using their assigned spots or garages. It’s ridiculous. One reviewer says they haven’t had an issue as long as they get here by 7:30. I’m glad they are okay with it, but I think it’s a bit ridiculous considering not everyone can be home by 7:30 just to be able to park in the complex they pay decent money to live and have things such as parking available to them. I have attached photos that show the blatant disregard people have even in the middle of the day when there are plenty of available spots!
Maintenance– if you happen to get an unlucky apartment or just get the occasional thing that might need fixing, be prepared to fix it yourself. My husband has had to replace a broken pipe under our sink, continuously re-​glue the «upgraded» flooring that was installed right before we moved in, and has now had to fix our garage door after 2 separate times maintenance saying they were coming and then not showing up. Essentially, living here go by the rule of «if you want something done then do it yourself.»
I hate having to resort to Unilocal,but I have emailed greystar and I have talked to the office and nothing has gotten resolved. Or the manager just tells you it’s not going to be fixed. I can see how this place can be really great but sadly the management is completely ruining it for us.
So if you are considering moving here, take caution if things like parking, promptness of maintenance, and expecting a leasing company to uphold their end of the deal are important to you. And if they aren’t, like you will see in my previous review, Avion at Spectrum does have some great things to offer!

I went on a 5 day apartment hunting trip and I had to choose between 2 different apartments in the end. I ended up choosing here because Chris was absolutely amazing. He had so much charisma and really made the Avion at Spectrum feel like a place that could call home. Its a little pricey here, but it has a really nice home feel, you go directly from the outside into your apartment, so no dull hallway or ugly parking garages. The amenities are great and I’m really looking forward to the future I will have here.

I have lived at Avion at Spectrum for about 11 months now and I can definitely say that the staff the centralized location is what makes this apartment complex a plus! I will be renewing my lease.
PROS
Staff– From day one, the staff have been friendly, upbeat and very nice. David is so sweet and helped me through the application process and worked with me on my move-​in dates. Chris has an awesome personality and helped me figure out the pet policy for my new dog! He is always joyful, transparent and very accommodating. He will keep you laughing in the front office. Make sure to ask for Chris, he will make sure to give you a real genuine experience.
Cleanliness and Quiet– Even though the apartment is dog friendly the neighborhood is it very clean. The complex is also very quiet. I rarely hear my neighbors.
Apartment– I opted for an apartment with wood finish and upgraded amenities. Amenities in the apartment are definitely used but they did a good job cleaning it up before I moved in. At first I was concerned because they were a little pricey but I would recommend an upgraded apartment if you can. You can recognize the difference between the upgraded units and non-​upgraded units (day and night).
Maintenance– The maintenance request is serviced in less than 24 hours.
CONS
Parking– Parking can be difficult at times. I usually park in my designated spot but it is a tight area so it is difficult to get in and out.

This place is on my short list to move into. Decide to take a look last weekend and I was greeted by Chris. The place looks great if a little pricy and it features lots of amenities and is close to everything which is what I am looking for. Chris has to be one of the most amazing people to ever work there. He took me around and didn’t short me on time since I will not be moving in until closer to summer which I really appreciated. He kept it real with me about the cost and he pointed out the negative and the positive attributes of the place. He seems very genuine and I really value that. I like to believe that I am a great judge of character and Chris cemented the fact that I will be calling this place home next.

I ended up moving into these apartments and I can honestly say that I enjoyed it. I only lived here for 5 months because my husband got re-​stationed but we loved it. It was a good size for the two of us and our dog — Parks near by, the gym was nice, the pool was awesome, parking was a huge plus as it had tons of guest parking. The ONLY downside I have is the location. I have a love hate relationship. There are no stores that are super close so it was always a chore if I had to run and get anything BUT it is in a good location to get to anywhere with minimal traffic.

We moved into Avion in early January but started looking in late November of last year. Chris was the one that took great care of us from the beginning, showing us the property (multiple times) and the process to apply, telling us what we need to do after we applied, working with us on move-​in dates, and figuring out the pet policy for my cat. He is absolutely amazing! AWESOME personality, always with a smile on his face and VERY helpful on all sorts of questions we asked. Make sure to ask for him if you are looking into this property.
The apartment is pretty nice. It’s always surprisingly quiet (considering how many apartments there are), even with windows open day or night. We don’t hear our neighbors AT ALL unless they are walking pass our door. Parking has not been as bad as some of the reviews for me, I can usually find parking easily if I come back by 7:30.
We opted for the wood-​ish floor upgrade and i love it! Amenities in the apartment definitely feel used but they did a good job cleaning it up before we moved in. So far so good!

I’ve lived here for about 6 months, and this is my favorite apartment that I’ve ever lived in. I love my apartment and the complex. It’s a very quiet complex and neighbors are all very friendly. I feel very safe here and have never slept better because I do feel quite safe.
Management is helpful and friendly.
Maintenance are also helpful, friendly, and efficient. My ice maker went out. Called the office to put in a work order (I do wish there was online system for work orders because sometimes the office is busy and they’re unable to answer the phone). A few hours later, someone was there to address the issue. He fixed my ice maker in a jiff and also cleaned out the freezer and organized my food when he put it all back in. Talk about going above and beyond! Things like that go a long way!
The walls are a bit thin, but it’s an apartment people. If you don’t like noise, live upstairs. That’s just a general rule for apartment living. I can hear my neighbor talking through our bathroom wall but it’s no problem – I’m never in there very long anyway. I have laminate floors so I’m sure my downstairs neighbors hear our movement. I do try to tread lightly and keep my dogs from running around too much. My bedroom is adjoined to the next door apartment, but luckily, I’ve never once heard a peep-​and I’m a very light sleeper.
The grounds are clean and well maintained, HOWEVER, there is always huge piles of disgusting smelly dog shit everywhere. What is so hard about cleaning up after your dog? It’s part of being a pet owner. This is no fault of management of course, but the lazy ass owners. One thing I see too much of is outlawed dog breeds – pit bulls, chows, etc. If I knew where they lived exactly, believe me, I’d tattle tell on them to management. The dog park is great, but again, these idiots with big dogs overrun the park by allowing their asshole dogs to run around off leash. There are signs that dogs are to be leashed at all times and cleaned up after because it’s not an enclosed dog park, more of a walking trail. You gotta love the folks who think their dog is special and an exception to the rule, «He’s just excited.» then tries to attack my smaller dogs. No, dumbass, your dog wants to eat other dogs. I’ve had the same out-​of-​control dog attack my smaller dog twice. Once was quite the fiasco when he got loose from his owner and my poor guy wiggled out of his collar and the chase ensued all over the street during lunchtime. Luckily, the owner was fast as lightening and chased his dog down right as he pinned my dog down and right before it got ugly. I was so shaken up. he was very apologetic but his dog needs Cesar Milan! I’ve seen many others with pit bulls that are inherently aggressive to smaller breeds roaming around off leash. Hello? If you want to let your dog run, actually take them to a real dog park where the rest of us don’t have to protect our dogs from yours who shouldn’t be here in the first place. If I was staying here longer, I’d be more diligent about discovering exactly which apartments the bad pet owners live in and complain to management.
I have a garage so I don’t have an issue with parking, but I do see cars sometimes parked in the red late at night on weekends. No biggie. I do see A LOT of cars that sit for MONTHS at a time. I“m guessing they’re deployed military??? Put your car in storage people if you’re not using it; it’s not fair for the rest of the residents.
You have your own water heater and water is individually metered and added to your rent charge. I’m ok with that.
All-​in-​all, it’s a wonderful place to live. I practically lived at the pool in the summer time and the BBQ’s are great. It’s quiet, it’s peaceful, people are friendly, management and maintenance are attentive and do their jobs. With the exception of the idiot dog owners with asshole dogs, this place is perfect.

I have lived at many high level apartment complexes most of them brand new. This property is hidden away… Well, it use to be hidden away I should say. Now parking is crazy on the property and the streets as well. There are 2 gates and many things can be improved upon. Loving the San Diego life, the buildings are over 10 years old at least. The properties across the street is obviously brand new and they are still building more new ones. So as they price their ²⁰¹⁵⁄₂₀₁₆ brand new top of the line new floor plans, amenities they price them accordingly. Avion looks at them and says, «Well, that’s a lot of money for a 1 or 2 bedroom we should raise our prices up as well. Then they look at other properties too and Mission Valley comes to mind where there are building down their as fast as Las Vegas does. What I don’t understand is how they can keep up with other properties who have brand new equipment across the board. The latest and greatest workout equipment, TV’s, Internet speeds in their lounge, computer room etc. Their homes on the inside use higher quality materials hands down. My boyfriend and I went to go look at a few properties and of course you pay for location but you also pay for all the newness. New this, new that and new everything comes with a price but I can assume that Avion with it’s broken pool sidings, falling apart grills, computers that don’t print, gym that is old school and have hookups for the old, old iPhone’s, iPad’s. There is no TV in the gym like there use to be and main fire place is so hard to work it scares me because all I smell is gas coming out and nothing lighting up. I have seen other guys come up and turn it on but I realized that they brought their own lighters to turn on the fireplace. Can’t be romantic and sit out at night when you can’t get the stupid thing to work. Very frustrating! Speaking of frustrating, the parking on the property is taken up so fast and I have seen people that do not live here take parking spots and walk across the street as I go for my runs I have seen it one too many times. It would be great if they took down the gates because they do not do ANYTHING at all. What they do is slow traffic down and nothing more. We have people sneaking in to use the gym, the pool and not last but least we have homeless men coming in and digging through our smelly garbage. I ran into one of them and he looked at me up and down and I felt very intimidated by his presence and I am only saying this as if you are considering renting here, especially if you are a female. I wanted to give a fair warning to others out there which is why I gave it 2 stars. I like some of the staff as they are very kind not to mention they help out with me getting packages or my boyfriend. We both lay out at the pool and there is a bunch of strangers that I never see and don’t know that they live here because I never see them again. I go tanning a lot and kinda know who comes and goes. The noise at the pool depending on the day can be crazy. There are plenty of kids, people who drink alcohol with glass bottles… At least I bring cans or cups and pour my drinks and walk 4 buildings down to the pool to abide by common sense and the rules.
The good: There isn’t crime in this area that I am aware of.
The bad: There is a registered sex offender that lives across the street on the north side of Spectrum Center Blvd so if you are a young lady watch out and of for your little ones as well.
This is a great neighborhood and doesn’t have that college party feel to it. I don’t see many cops here unless it’s for a health emergency it seems like but what do I know?
My job is only a few short miles at Fashion Valley but my boyfriend may have to move for his job to Hawaii which is a great place to be. We were there 2 months ago and we may or we may not move. But if we do not move, I may want to move depending on how much they raise the rent on us for a one bedroom.
This is a place we call home so sorry for the long post. I just want anyone who comes here to get an idea of what this place holds for you and the things that the staff will not tell you, I am so you can make a more informed decision. I am not bitter but I am telling it like it is.
One more thing… We are close to restaurants, a few blocks from 163 and the 15, close to shopping centers and about 15 minutes or so from the Airport which is convenient for the both of us.

I don’t live here, but my review is based solely on the service I received while I was there checking things out. Our lease will be up soon, so my husband and I decided to check this place out as we want to stay in the area. The leasing office was empty, but as we were exploring some we ran into a leasing manager by the name of Christopher. Chris is a real SUPERSTAR. I mean just stellar with his customer service skills. Chris gave us a full tour of the place, told us about all of the amenities, and even took us back to have a second look at places we wanted to see again. Avion seems pretty reasonable with prices, and beautiful amenities, they also have renovated apartments available with wood floors, granite counter tops, and stainless steel appliances. We will definitely be heading back when it’s a little closer to our move out date with our current place. And hey Avion, give Chris a raise or some kind of manager position, he is PHENOMENAL! :) if I ever do live here, (hopefully), I will update this review with how it is to actually reside at Avion.

I am the resident in this apartment. There are some conflicts that can’t be fixed for example the noise of pans from AC. So I won’t mention about anything inconvenience. Just one thing I hope to be fixed is the behavior of workers at leasing office.
I live with my parents and I am almost grad student just a semester left. I was walking to the office to change the gate opener and the assistance manager and other workers reaction was amazingly cold and sarcastic.
They said I was not on the list; only my parents were on the list. Changing gate opener is the access thing to apartment so they said even if I am the son of my parents, Im not on the list so they cant just give it out. I understood what they were saying but as a resident of this apartment, they should’ve shown least respect instead of listing logical facts and policies and justifying their behaviors being asshole toward resident.
Even when you go to market and buy ketchup and back to home. You ate it and tasted bad you thought. You walked back to the market for the refund. Market policy is that if the product is eatable and opened, it cannot be refunded. Then, the first reaction they may do is to say «sorry for your inconvenience» then explain what their policy is. It is because even though it is not workers fault for the situation, since they are involved in that market as a representator of the market, they say sorry first. This leasing office people not all of them but the assistance manager and one guy, I felt discrimination that Because I am asian and I am relying on my parents for living condition, they said directly they did not want to communicate with me and said call my parents to communicate.
There might be some problems about the apartment but those are understandable but before understanding the policy, the behavior of the workers at leasing office is not what you are expecting outside and a service outside.

Lived here for about a year and a half, when I sadly had to move to Orange County for a job opportunity. This complex is seriously top-​notch. Amenities like the salt water pool and gym are kept clean and nice. Parking is assigned and there is plenty of guest spots as well. I only had to call maintenance a couple of times, but when I did, they were quick to respond.
I definitely wish they would add a game room with pool tables or something similar. That being said, I would definitely recommend this complex to anyone and will definitely keep it in mind should I ever move back to SD.

I’ve lived on this property twice now, in two different units, since 2008 and l really love it. I managed to get in when things weren’t quite so pricey, but the renovated units are really nice and sometimes you can get one of the unrenovated ones at a reasonable price. You get a lot of bang for your buck on this property — a beautiful pool and jacuzzi. (Those can get a little loud and kid-​intense on the weekends, though, so be prepared.) Units away from the pool area are usually quite quiet. The gym is nice, but small, so avoid it at peak times like after work. I really love the maintenance staff, as well. It’s central to everything, all the freeways, and there are plenty of food options nearby, especially Convoy District. Mmm… ramen.
