The fact is a vast majority of rental car places suck. The service is bad, they don’t give a crap about you as a customer and you always feel like they are trying to nickle and dime you … not to mention the rediculous pricing schemes the agencies use. Not the case here.
I’ve been renting from this place for the last 2 years after my move to San Diego.
Have to say that Philip has been nothing short of fantastic every time I rent there. He helps me get the car I need and when the bill doesn’t seem right, he goes the extra mile to figure out a solution.

First experience renting a car ever… and it was stellar. 99% of what made this experience so memorable was the customer service. The gentleman who assisted me is named Phillip I believe and he is awesome. I appreciated his professionalism which was very direct and not fake or condescending which I can appreciate. I’m one year shy of 25 so renting cars is a bit costlty but renting from Avis was not only worth the cost, it was an excellent value and I was treated very well. Rent your next car from Avis — you won’t regret it.

Have I ever rented a car from Avis? Nope. Why am I giving them 5 stars you ask? Because of one of their employees — Philip. I came home from being on the East Coast for 5 days, at the end of a work day, and my car was completely dead. Phillip (whose Avis store is across the street from my parking garage) brought jumper cables and jumped my car. This was no easy task for a variety of reasons that I won’t bore you with.
Suffice it to say, if you rent from this particular Avis, you can bet that you will have amazing, over and beyond, customer service. I wasn’t even a customer, and I still felt very looked after.
And now every morning when I walk to work, we wave to each other, and it always brings a smile to my face. It’s nice to know in grimy, sometimes jarring downtown, that there are kind souls looking out for you.

I found this place on Unilocal.Is just 3 blocks where I leave. My English is not so good and the manager Philip is from Germany and it was easier to rent the car he speak German. Customer service AAA+ now when I need a car just this location. Thank you again

I came to San Diego for 5 weeks, 4 out of 5 weeks I was driving rental car from downtown location. First of all, service was on point, Philip helped me a lot because my English is not perfect he explained everything I would need to understand. Second, the car was almost new (I had many rental cars along the world), it was 2015 ford explorer, and I was told if I want different car, I could exchange at any time. The car was good on gas! Definitely recommend this place to everyone!

I’ve been renting cars from this and la jolla location for the past 3 years, the service has always been great and the cars are extremely clean. I must have rented cars from them on at least 20 occasions, and I was always happy with the price and results. They always got the car that I wanted even they didn’t have it available at that time. I will continue renting cars from them, thank you Ziad and the team!

5 Stars! This location is great. 2.5 miles from the airport, no airport taxes! Convenient, great selection of cars and could easily upgrade to a bigger car (it was fully loaded). Experience was excellent, quick in and out, hassle free.
Stayed at the Palomar Hotel, right around the corner.

What a horrible experience!
I rarely write these kind of reviews, but justice needs to be served and truth needs to be said here.
I rent cars ALL THE TIME. I live downtown, and am a Avis Preferred member.
After this experience, i no longer use Avis rentals.
Had a reservation, walked into an office, the guy point blank tells me he won’t honor it, and that i have to pay more for my daily car. I said I just made the reservation online, why did it allow me to reserve it for this price? he goes, i don’t care, this is the actual price, basically and end of story. It wasn’t even that much more, but it’s just the principle of the matter, as well as his attitude, what made me really upset.
Very rude, unprofessional and 0 customer service.
I left the office and haven’t come back since.
Give yourself a favor and go to Enterprise on 9th and F, where they actually take care of their clients, and know what client retention means.
Too bad for Avis.
