I work in east village a block away from petco park. It is always my favorite when we order from Avo’s for lunch. The food is DELICIOUS, the people are nice, the cost is well worth it, and they deliver. I would eat here everyday if I could. The veggie plate with hummus, tabuleh and falafel is my favorite. Their gyros are yummy too!!!

They have a great, greek grilled chicken salad. It comes with avocado and olives, etc, etc. The chicken is actually grilled and not reheated in the microwave like some places. I get both sauces on the side. It’s a filling lunch for about $ 11. Awesome.

I’ve always been extremely satisfied with the food that I ordered from Avos Med Café but today I ordered my Greek Avo Chicken Salad & immediately noticed the difference. The chicken tasted different, the lettuce was cut different, dressing different, the tzatziki sauce tasted nothing like tzatziki. I called back because I remembered when I called it in the girl that answered the phone spoud so quickly I couldnt understand her. I asked her the name of the café & she informed me of the new name, which I cant remember, «same food different owners» I told her I disagreed, everything about the food was different :(. RIP Avos Med Café.

Just ordered the chicken lunch special and it wasn’t anything special. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich lunch special and one of the three people at the front counter(a little overkill) asked if I meant the Chicken Special Sandwich … um, yeah. Isn’t that what I just said? It also took about three trys(literally, she had to edit the order ticket three times) before she understood that i wanted pita bread and hummus instead of a rice or a salad. Difficult ordering aside, the chicken special sandwich was very greasy. The pita bread was soaked by the time I got back to my office and there was way too much processed cheese on it. It more closely resembled a chicken cheesesteak than a fresh Mediterranean sandwich. Disappointing …

Avo’s nice small restaurant, its very clean and organized, I went there for lunch, and ordered chkn and shrimp plate, actually food was good, best grilled shrimp I’ve ever had, but the portions were very little, I wish there was more food in plate, I was getting late so I didn’t have time to order more food, Food and service was good, i’ll definitely be back,

Yes I was/am hungover and needed a bite within walking distance. The greeter lured me in recomending the gyro special and her bubbling personality. The food came out extremely fast and the service was excellent, but the food was overall just ok. It was a fair price for a Monday lunch special. Free hummus and pita chips too is always a bonus.

My work on a monthly basis gets catering here and during the month were we don’t I’m typically ordering take out from Avo’s. Their meat has so much flavor and just enjoy their yogurt sauce and hummus. Another favorite of mine is their Greek salad. They give you a ton and not just lettuce but cheeses, etc. although I must say my go to is their chicken supreme sandwich with a side of fries. Chunky chicken pieces that are marinated well and served on pita bread with lettuce hummus red onions is delicious. Their fries are never hot or crispy more like soggy but for some reason I still have to have it worth the sandwich.

Great lunch spot. My go-to is the SPICYGYRO because it’s a really good gyro that also has BACON. The Kafta Salad is also good. If you eat here, they serve you hummus in martini glasses. Dine inside or outside on the covered patio. Sometimes the fries are soggy, just undercooked. Hit or miss on those. I got the Chicken Supreme Sandwich once and it was swimming in yogurt sauce and juices from the chicken and peppers. The pita was saturated. It fell apart so I had to eat it with a fork. But stick to the gyros and you won’t be disappointed.

I had to change my gyro ranking system after becoming addicted to this establishment’s «Spicy Gyro.» There is nothing else like it. You cannot just walk into any Greek restaurant and order this. It is only available here, and once you try it, you will never think about gyros the same way. All the«regular» gyros become boring, basic, well, still good, but just plain. Let me just describe it… It’s a gyro with all the regular stuff. like the pita, the meat, the tzatziki, the feta, etc… and then… get this… they add bacon and jalapenos. Yes, you read that right, bacon and jalapenos. Who thought of this? And why hasn’t anybody thought of it sooner? Seriously genius. Spicy Gyro special. I do not need to say anymore. Ok, actually I do. Get it with the rice pilaf and ask for extra tzatziki and put it on the rice. Trust me. It’s good.

I’ve passed by this place a couple of times on my way to eat at Simons. I’ve contemplated eating here but today, i bit the bullet and i’m glad i did! I sat at the bar to order to go and the cashier was very friendly. I told her this was my first time and she gave me humus in a cute martini glass for FREE. The hummus sold me! FRESH& the hint of lemon was delish. I ordered the gyros plate for $ 8.95 it came with fries and a small greek salad. The gyro sandwich was good! the meat was moist not dryed out, and the bread was soft. They put the greek sauce on the side and were not stingy! My only complaint is that the fries were not seasoned, but hey who needs extra salt. I will come back here! the staff is friendly and the food is good! 3 stars because the food is good but not GREAT 1 extra star because the staff was nice and the food was made quickly. DON’T judge this place based off the stamp card review for this place. The stamp card is a perk that most places downtown wouldn’t even offer. Someone hard up for cash wouldn’t pay 10 bucks for two side items in the first place. It just sounds like someone who always gets their way and didn’t win this time.

Avos Chicken Supreme Lunch Special = Super fattening, and super awesome. Also like the comfortable outdoor patio seating. New lunch spot, for sure!

Great food & atmosphere. Being in downtown their menu is resonably priced. Gyro or Chicken Greek salad is a must try. Their own made salad dressing is a nice complement and surprise to the salad. They also have the best taziki(? Spelling ?) sauce I have tried.(It’s the white sauce that goes on a gyro or you dip your pita bread into) Portions are large. I haven’t been able to clear my plate :)

A lunch time regular, I can always count on Avos to be there in a pinch. They will deliver your order before you can even finish your sentence. Chicken/Shrimp kabob, chicken pita sammy, salads and Gyro are all recommended. Hummus hits the spot as well. Falafel is a little too crunch for my liking and sometimes the staff can get a little nit-picky about what comes with your order, but overall, it’s a pretty swell lunch spot.

I’ve been here once for lunch. The portions were generous and the food wasn’t terrible, but the service was SOSOSLOW. The prices were maybe a dollar more than I’d like to pay for lunch, too. After reading the two reviews below me about the awful service they received, I will definitely think twice before eating here again. I definitely can’t tolerate rude servers!

This is over a stamp card?! Who really enforces their stamp cards this much?! Don’t EVER go to Avo’s! I went there to get lunch. I bought 2 side orders, one for lunch and one for dinner. I spent $ 10.78. I asked Nicole(the cashier) if I can get my card stamped, she said ‘NO’ because I didn’t buy an Entrée. They have lunch meals for $ 8 and you can get your card stamped. I spent more than the 5th free meal(which is $ 10) and they still didn’t want to stamp it. Then I said: «this is why a lot of my co-workers no longer come here anymore». Also, sometimes I go there and forget my stamp card at the office, so I get a new card stamped. I have 3 cards stamped with only a single stamp. I bring my cards and ask if I can combine them. They said:“no”. WTF! I ran into a co-worker ‘Gina’- who was going to order an entrée. I told her what happened. So she got my card and was going to try to get her meal and get the card stamped. Didn’t work because the girl who stands in front of the restaurant(who thinks her job is so important) went in before her and told the cashier that she has my card. So when Gina went to the counter to place the order, the girl at the register straight out said that she can’t get the card stamped. Gina asked — «Even if I order an entrée?» The girl said yes. So Gina said«Well you lost another customer». The girl at the front who snitched, you know how you are, this is for you! Applause, applause! Do you really think you can be proud of yourself? Get a new job! Oh wait! Maybe you can’t, which is why you just stand outside in front of a restaurant handing out flyers and snitching on people… Grow up! Nothing wrong or against greeters, they are the greatest and set the mood for the guests who dine in at restaurants, but to snitch! Really?!! I know this should have been a review for the quality of their food, so I did rate them 1 star because I did get my lunch. But for customer service, BOO! If it’s this difficult to get a stamp from them, don’t bother going. All my co-workers and FB buddies, you know what to do! Little did they know, I am a UnilocalER and a FB’er

This is one of my favorite choices when I go out to lunch with my office mates. I always get the chicken kabob special because it’s SO good, I just can’t risk getting anything else. It comes with a loaded chicken kabob(with a few onions and peppers) on top of a fresh pita with lettuce along with rice pilaf and a greek salad loaded with feta and olives. It’s so good and so fresh. Best of all, no guilt. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. Oh and the service is top notch too!

I met my wife & friends for lunch, & figured that Greek food was a safe bet. So I decided to try some traditional fare and had a combo at Avo’s of Dolmades & Spanakopita, only they call it «Stuffed grape leaves.» I suppose they might feel that keeps them from having to make the dish actually resemble REAL dolmades/dolmas, which these certainly didn’t. Our waitress was a doll & gave us great service. I mean why not, there were only 4 tables busy at peak lunch hour on a weekday. Anyhow, the spanakopita comprised of three, flattened triangles of phylo with some tasteless goo in it, about ¼ inch thick. Virtually nothing identifiable as spinach, feta or with ANY flavor to speak of. All overcooked mush that I would imagine was made a week ago & frozen/refrozen repeatedly. The dolmades, 4 of them about 2″ x ¾″, were even worse. There was nothing identifiable in them as being rice or meat. It was simply mushy goo with virtually no flavor. Again, tasting like it was made & frozen weeks ago. The tsatziki sauce was essentially plain yogurt with a teeeeeeny piece of mint leaf in it. Gimme a break! How hard is it to grate a cucumber in yogurt & add a little salt, maybe some mint or dill? Sheesh? These folks obviously don’t give a shit about what they’re putting on your plate. My friend’s soup, supposed to be lentil, but was a chickeny-ricey looking thing, bore more of a resemblance to congee than what it was supposed to be. Kind of like rice paste. To be fair there was a decent looking chicken kabob pita sandwich at the table, and the salads were actually made with good, fresh romaine. But that’s it… JUST romaine, a little onion, a couple tiny hunks of feta and a crushed olive. Not EVEN worth the price of admission. There’s a Grab ‘N Go sub place directly across the street. Do yourself a HUGE favor, and go there for a great sandwich rather than eating the PITIFUL fare at this dump.
