This is an amazing store and product. Who would have thought that olive oils and vinegars could be so good. I love this store. I make sure my Secret Santa gift at the office is always a gift pack of olive oils and vinegars. Everyone loves them. Cooking with these make an ordinary meal extraordinary. Your family and guests will think you are an outstanding cook. Don’t tell them your secret. You can taste the oils and vinegars before you buy them too. You can’t go wrong with any of these items.

A unique gift store for last minute shoppers like myself.
I was looking for gift opportunities for Christmas and walked by here. If you haven’t been to an olive oil purveyor before you basically sample oils and vinegars. How Baker & Olive operates is that a hostess fills up a small plastic cup of olive oil and you taste it. You can ask questions about specific cooking needs and flavor profiles if you like. What caught my eye, and my need, were their gift sampler boxes. Pre boxed with various combinations of oil, balsamic, or a mix of both. It made a nice and easy gift.
— I actually didn’t find drinking straight Olive Oil to be a pleasant experience. On food it would be a completely different story.
— There were other gift idea here too. So, if you’re in panic mode be sure to check this place out.

Dang! I thought this store was open until 6 pm… Ran in at 5:57 to grab a birthday gift and store was closed! Bummer! Had to get a tea cup from next door instead :(.

They have great olive oil and vinegar. They are very nice about letting you taste their olive oils and vinegar! We also bought a loaf of bread there and it was really good!

Happened to run into this place while waiting to rent a car from Enterprise next door. I’m a big wine drinker so this place with all it’s specialty foods, balsamics, and oils was perfect. You can sample the oils and vinegars with the help of one of the nice ladies that work here who are all very helpful. They sell a lot of cute gift ideas too for the foodie/​wine lover. I will definitely be coming back especially if I plan on having guests over and serving a nice cheese/​meat spread.

Wow — the ladies who work here are SO FRIENDLY!!! They were so happy to educate us about it vinegar, balsamic and oils. Sometimes it’s intimidating to go into a place like that, and they were AWESOME.
He product is so yummy. We’ve gone through several bottles of a variety of oils etc. they even have a «refill» system.
It’s clear they love what they do, and are thrilled to share the knowledge. They also ship for $ 12. Crazy cheap.

We stopped by here over the weekend after a late lunch at Carnitas Snack Shack. I heard about this little shop from a cooking class at the ever classy PIRCH in UTC. One of the PIRCH chefs used an aged balsamic that was purchased from Baker & Olive. So I was excited to finally visit this location.
The store is incredibly bright, cozy, and quaint. There’s a multitude of olive oils and vinegar you can sample. I would have preferred if they had tiny pieces of bread to use to sample the oils/​vinegar as sipping them, straight up from a cup, can be a bit heavy in my opinion.
The black truffle EVOO (see pic) had a wonderful strong taste of truffle that lingered all through the afternoon. The nice woman explained that this is more of a finishing oil than a salad dressing oil.
The fig balsamic (see pic) was nicely sweet and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
It’s not cheap here but I wouldn’t expect anything less for premium EVOO and balsamic. Plus, look at where they’re located. Speaking of which, they’re located right by the lower level water fountain.
This place reminds me of We Olive & Wine in La Jolla (they have bread to use to sample their oils/​vinegar actually). Speaking of which (again), brain fart here, maybe Baker & Olive can host a wine/​food tasting event at their Carmel Valley location? It would go most excellent with their EVOO and balsamics. I’d sign up for that in a heartbeat.

Incredible array of olive oils and vinegar! Ranges from sweet — dark chocolate/​pomegranate/​cherry/​etc. to savory — herb de Provence/​garlic/​truffle oil/etc.and the best part is you get to try all of them! The lady at the front even mixed different oils and vinegars to show us how we could combine them at home if we were cooking/​making salads with them, which was so helpful.
It’s pretty expensive — my boyfriend bought his mom a cranberry pear white balsamic vinegar which was about $ 17 a bottle — hence the 4 stars, but the quality is really great so I would say it’s mostly worth it. Definitely a nice gift to bring to a house party or dinner party.
They also have a lot of other things in the store, like gluten free cookbooks, knick knacks like bottle stoppers and spouts, olive oil lip balm and lotions, and more.

SUCH a fun store to visit. They have some seriously amazing unique Balsamic & Olive Oil blends and tasting stations make it easy to pick the right one for you. I also love their sample boxes which make great gifts. Will definitely be back

I’m not sure if I’m reviewing the right location. I stopped into the Del Mar location by Cinepolis.
Wasn’t sure what to expect.

I wish I could remember which ones were my favorite so I could order them.
Maybe they should write that down for you when you taste and don’t buy.
Love this place. My only question is whether or not the olive oil is pure. Most olive oils are branded, «olive oil» but are a mixture of other oils. I asked this question while at the store but didn’t get a direct answer.
If the olive oil used is pure olive oil with no other oils added in, please let me know!
They still taste pretty amazing though.

If you are looking for specialty olive oils or balsamic vinegars for any occasion, look no further. I was first introduced to this place because my boss suggested we come here to purchase some corporate gifts. This place is THE place to buy a useful gift that will «wow» anybody.
With rows and rows of olive oils and balsamic vinegar dispensers, the options are endless. You have strawberry balsamic, pomegranate balsamic, peach balsamic, anything! Their olive oils also come in a huge variety of herb infused flavors.
The second time I came here was to buy a wedding gift for my boyfriend’s foodie cousin. I did my research prior on the gift boxes and was delighted to see one with 4 fruit balsamic vinegars. Since I didn’t want to just buy them without trying (although I was certain they were good, I just needed an excuse to have some haha!), the staff was nice enough to give me samples of all 4. Even though it would have been nice to sample with some sort of cheese and cracker, the stuff was literally good enough to drink, which is what we did!
Of course, prices aren’t exactly cheap but they are still affordable. The box of 4 came up to $ 24 and I think it was very reasonable. So come here for olive oils and vinegars for any occasion that will definitely make your recipient feel special. My only hope is that I will receive some as a gift in the future!

Great experience here at the store today. I needed a last minute gift for a bridal shower and as I drove by the store I thought oil and vinegar is a good gift for «a perfect pair.»
The customer service was great. I told the woman my idea and she gave me a few different options. I was really not looking to spend a ton and their products can get pricey. The standard size for their products is quite large and $ 16.95+ per bottle was more than I wanted to spend (seeing as I needed both an oil and a vinegar). I wished they had smaller bottles available for all of their oils and vinegars.
I ended up going with one of their sampler boxes which had four of the smaller bottles. These smaller bottles are only available in the sampler boxes. I chose the lunch box sampler which had basil EVOO, peach white balsamic, fig balsamic, and lemon EVOO.
I told the woman I would be repackaging it and she sent me on my way with tissue and ribbon which was really helpful. This is definitely not a place I would go often but it’s a good specialty shop to have around.

Despite some of the negative reviews about the customer service, my experience was very positive. I actually enjoyed the sales person telling me about the olive oils and the region it came from and what food could be paired well with that or this oil.
I was in awe from the variety of oils and vinegar and Yes you can try all of them, there are a few types of bread provided for you with your tastings.
The store also sells boxes (pairing kits) with 2 oils and 2 vinegar bottles which makes a fantastic housewarming gift or a nice present for yourself.
I end up buying the Tuscan herb olive oil and its absolutely delicious on salads, so flavorful and aromatic.
I don’t mind spending a few extra $ for a quality product.
It is a terrific store with supreme oils and vinegar!

I really like all of the infused oil & vinegar shops that have been popping up around town, the products are quite fun to cook with! Baker & Olive has a great selection of oils and balsamic vinegars and interesting flavors.
I really enjoy the various balsamic flavors, they make for a great salad dressing!
As others have mentioned, they really need tiny pieces of bread for tasting. It really adds to the experience and I honestly would probably buy more if I wasn’t going around drinking the samples.
I’ve been less than impressed with the service. I’ve only been here a few times, but no one seemed overly eager to help customers and ringing up my purchase seemed like a chore. With some staff replacements or basic customer service training this could be fixed.
I’ll probably return because it’s conveniently close to home and the products are good but am hoping that the service improves and that they invest in some bread!

Wow! Absolutely love this store! I could have spent all day and all my money here! So many fantastic finds, and wonderful staff to help with pairings, tastings, and great gift ideas. Definitely a first stop for unique gifts– lovely serving ware– olive bowls, olive oil dipping bowls, so, so many types of olive oils and balsamics! Try the Strawberry balsamic with the basil olive oil, or the toasted walnut oil with the pear balsamic– or ask, and they’ll give you loads of ideas! Will definitely be back!

What an unexpected surprise! I honestly didn’t know what to expect walking in, but the time spent tasting the great selection of oils and vinegars and browsing the rest of the store was kind of like a wine tasting experience. My wife and I both enjoyed the education and you could tell the staff really knew and appreciated their product. Worth stopping in to treat yourself or to pick up a gift for a cook or party host.
Great customer service and awesome selections of oils and vinegar. Definitely upscale in all that they do, but the prices were pretty reasonable.
Please send more businesses like this to Carmel Valley.

Very nice selection of olive oils and balsamic vinegars. Everything in this store is super cute and any thing here make excellent host gifts, for example. However, I give only 3 stars because, as other reviewers here, you feel a little bit overwhelmed if you want to try the oils on your own and not having someone on top of you. Also, baguettes do not cost that much, so it would be a much better customer experience if people could try the oils with bread. I am from olive oil culture and there is no way to try out any oil without the corresponding piece of bread. Sorry, drinking it is not the same. I also like their French jams a lot (but think again in offering some bread for a nice tasting). After all this is a gourmet boutique, so experience is everything and people will pay anyways for good quality.

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this store yet! I adore Baker and Olive. The products are really great-​tasting and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I’ve been here several times to pick up products for myself and gifts for friends.
A few of my favorite infused olive oils are:
Tuscan Herb (seriously, try this one)
Garlic
Basil
Eureka Lemon
Greek Herb
The only one I haven’t been a fan of is the Herbs de Provence oil. It tastes good by itself, but when applied to anything it just tastes far too floral and strong.
The raspberry balsamic vinegar is also a treat. I love that this store sometimes carries fresh bread, too.

Love their products! So glad they opened here close to my home so I don’t have to go all the way up to Encinitas!
I was served courteously when I went in; as far as tasting the product, there is a sign that tells you to ask for help, so if a child was doing it for himself, I can see why the salesperson might get upset.

Who would have thought that a place that sells olive oil and balsamic vinegar would be such a cool find? I’m kind of a coupon addict, and I receive a coupon book to many of the stores in the Del Mar Highlands shopping center, Backer & Olive being one of them. I use olive oil on a regular basis, and thought I’d check it out.
First, I had no idea that there’s like 50 different kinds of olive oil. Second, I definitely had no idea there were 50 kinds of balsamic vinegar.
Moving on. The sales rep was SUPER nice, and basically taught me about different oils and how to use them and allowed me to taste some. I never really realized how much flavor oil carries until I was tasting just the oil. I told her what I was using it for, and she provided some suggestions (sauteing veggies, mostly). It’s a bit on the pricey side, but you can’t buy this stuff at Ralph’s.
I was very very pleased with the service and product, and will definitely be back.
