Specialties

Whether dancers come to BMDC to have fun or to train for a professional career, they receive the same instruction in the Cecchetti method. Several perfomances are put on annually including The Nutcracker at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.

Many of our alumni have joined major dance companies including Joffrey Ballet, Houston Ballet, L.A. Ballet, and Northern Ballet Theatre in Leeds England.

History

Established in 1983.

Black Mountain Dance Centre was established with the goal to offer superior training in classical ballet. The studio offers classes in ballet for children from the age of three and on up through adult. Classes in Modern, Jazz, Tap and Character are offered as well.

The studio opened in 1983 and has alumni who have joined major dance companie, such as Boston Ballet, ABT, Northern Ballet in Leeds England, and many more.

Sylvia P.

Business Owner

Sylvia Palmer Zetler started dancing with Kay Armstrong in Vancouver, Canada. She won a scholarship to The National Ballet School in Toronto, then was taken into the National Ballet of Canada. She also studied at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and with many of the foremost European teachers in London and Paris. Sylvia performed for seven years with the National Ballet of Canada and with the Canadian Opera and CBC TV in Toronto. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Teaching Techniques and is a Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Cecchetti. Her students have earned more than 1,500 Cecchetti certificates from the earliest grades to the final Advanced level. She is on the governing Board of Cecchetti USA.
