Aaron without question is one of the best tattoo artists I have seen. He has done amazing work and continues to impress me with every piece I get done by him. I do not mind paying the price because as he says cheap tattoos aren’t good and good tattoos aren’t cheap. Super cool guy, nice to talk too and he is hilarious.
The shop is very clean and close to everyone which makes for a fun environment when you’re getting work done. I highly recommend checking the shop out and ask for Aaron you will not regret it.

I know that it’s risky walking in for a tattoo without an appointment but I have done it many times and enjoy the experience. I’m a hairstylist who works with clients too. They are sometimes as serious about their hair as I am about my tattoos. I walked in to this shop to get a quote for a hand tattoo. The artist started by telling me that I will never get a job in cooperate America so hopefully I’ll be a hairstylist forever. I told him I appreciated the heads up and I still wanted my hands tattooed. Then he quoted me at $ 500, shows me his completely tattooed hands and said I better be ready to pay for quality work. I told him that I couldn’t pay $ 500 and that I had an artist at home who might hook me up. Then this man looked at my sisters tattoo and called it ‘nothing special’. Then he insisted we look at his portfolio which we were uninterested in by now. I tried to end the conversation politely more than once and he talked over me the entire time while my sister and I backed out the door, knowing the vibe in black rose is negative and we wouldn’t let that guy tattoo us if he was paying US the $ 500. No thanks to this shop.

«Shorty» got us in on a friend’s referral and did an amazing job. Quick and very talented. We didn’t bring any pictures of what we we wanted but he was patient and drew it perfect. It was a birthday gift for my bf who had a specific leaf style and color in mind. He had a gentle bedside manner and the price was perfect. Thanks Shorty (Shon Gould)

Andy created a piece that covers about half my back. It took us a total of four sessions and turned out beautifully. He is very talented and professional. If you are looking to get a high quality, unique tattoo, I’d highly recommend Andy.

My wife and I just had our second tattoos completed by Mark at Black Rose. We went back because Mark does awesome professional work. We have had other work done by other places but Mark at Black Rose is the best.

Me and my sister decided to come in to get a random matching tattoo and they came out really cute! We got matching fish tattoos. I was tattooed by the «man of my dreams», tall dark and handsome with a beard. (He told me to say this) anyways my tattoo came out really cool! He did it at a good pace and it didn’t hurt too much. Super professional. I’m very happy

I got a amazing sick piece that should have cost more, but thanks to the owner Troubke he hooked me up with a huge memorizing piece of art for cheap and I love it. its in memory of my sis God rest her soul I know she would love it to. Thanks Chopper for the perfect tattoo

These guys are awesome. I walked in yesterday to get my first tattoo and all the guys in the shop were super cool. I got tattooed by James Lachappa and definitely plan on going back for my next.

Trouble hooked it up! I walked into the shop on the first day of the year and wanted to get a tattoo that said FUCK CANCER for my mom who just got diagnosed with cancer and he literally took a loss on his part. My tat was made by Kenny who tatted me from 11pm til 2am and never batted an eye. I heavily underpaid for a tattoo I will cherish forever. I love you guys. Thank you so much for such a meaningful tattoo. I recommend you guys all the time!

Best tattoo experience I’ve had yet and I’ve been tatted at four different shops. We came all the way from Ohio and Chris the owner was a great host and Kenny tatted me and my girl up to perfection. So I started the night with my girlfriend and sister, it was one of those we are tired if the regular routine lets do something nights. I decided we were going to the tattoo shop. I had been here previously for my girlfriend to get a memorial tattoo done. The previous experience was so great, I thought what better place to start a random night out. The artist Kenny who had done my girls tattoo was there with another artist mike and really nice and intimidating at the same time guy I can’t remember his name but I will never forget him. Everybody was welcoming and hilarious. Not having a clue where the night would go, Kenny was looking at how my girl’s previous tattoo had healed. It was gorgeous! Being a semi savant he asked if could touch it a little as his tattoo was added to an existing tattoo and he wanted to make sure they looked like they were done together. Here we go!!! It was not long before my sister decided to get a Monroe piercing and told my girl she should too. 2 perfectly placed Monroe’s and a nose ring into the night (thank you Mike), the should be a comedian super nice but still a little intimidating guy asked me when I had lost got a tattoo. It was really on now! Kenny drew the most incredible Viking I had ever seen. We did not leave until just before 2AM with by far my best tattoo ever. The should be a comedian super nice and not so intimidating anymore guy actually went and bought us tacos and soda. What an incredible night with some truly talented and very nice people. Who knew the tattoo shop would be the destination for a complete wonderful evening. Picture to follow

This was my first tattoo and I was in GREAT hands. Slim did an amazing job and made for such a good first time experience. I asked for a white rose with fine, thin lines and he had no problem delivering a beautiful rose that I can’t stop showing off. I would recommend him hands down! The guys gave me the best price and comforting experience that I will forever rave about. I applaud Slim and his amazing work!

This was by far the best tattoo experience I have ever had. I walked in and had the pleasure of meeting Mike. He worked with me on my design and placement, was extremely patient and super helpful. I LOVE my tattoo! He was also able to fix another tattoo of mine in just 20 minutes! I highly recommend Mike. Great tattoo artist! Great experience!

Very disappointed. Went in for a forearm tatt — came out with hamburger on my arm (dude went LAYERS too deep on my arm) Owner stated he’d fix it personally since the dude that did the tatt butchered my arm, but no call back to reschedule the fix… not bad guys (always were friendly and nice), just bad follow through.

My husband and I first got tattooed here on our honeymoon back in 2008. For our anniversary yesterday, we returned and couldn’t be happier with the work done by Aaron and Hunter. I got a small vinyl record on my forearm, and Aaron exceeded my expectations with the details — groove lines, shine, and everything! Hunter did some expert lettering — which was intended to match some previous tats — on my husband. You will not be disappointed with either of these guys. Their work is excellent.
One of the shop owners, Chris, was there — checking up on everything and conversing with the clients. The whole place is clean, professional, and non-​intimidating (especially for not-​so-​heavily tattooed folks who can feel intimidated in other tattoo places, like me). And everyone is friendly. The prices are reasonable, and we were accommodated as walk-​in clients within minutes (at 4pm on a Friday afternoon).
The succession of 5-​star reviews say it all!!! We’ll be back for sure.

Joel did my first tattoo 2 weeks ago and I love it so much! He did just what I asked him to do and it turned out perfect.

This place use to be classy and was cool. Had lots of talented artists there. After they sold it, it has turned into probably the joke of Pacific Beach. Very unprofessional. In fact, I left there crying because my tattoo was that bad.
The guys who works there are a bunch of chumps, who cant tattoo for the life of them. Be care girls. Its filled with a bunch of rejects who cant draw even when tracing something. I got groped, hit on, and talked down to by a bunch of uneducated idiots.
This place will probably go under in the next year. Be careful. They lie about their experience too. 2 of them don’t even have a licence to tat. They tatted on one of my friends also and they were drunk and coked out. We didn’t know any of it until they offered it to us in the back.
Be aware. This place sucks that bad!!!
A lot of them are rejects from Sideshow Tattoos. Ha. Another joke of the city.

I heard great things about this place by some friends that have gone there and def. glad i gave it a try. Went in yestereday to get a stupid tattoo covered and it turned out great! I got kegan and he did an amazing job covering my tattoo with a beautiful rose. Everyone there is really friendly and unlike other shops i’ve gone to they dont make you feel like your just not cool enough to be in there. Excited to go back and get more work done!

This place definitely gets five stars from me for a multitude of reasons.
First off, let me start with saying, I have loved tattoos for an extremely long period of time. The reason I have never gotten any is because Im a commitment phobe firstly and Im extremely obsessive compulsive secondly. Im always afraid something will happen, artist will sneeze or something equally as lame and destroy my tattoo/​life/​etc.
With that being said… the bf and I have visited Black Rose a few times over the past year or so just to look at their work, talk to artists, etc.
We decided to take the plunge and actually get them yesterday. So we popped in, spoke to Brent, the shop apprentice guy who had us look at books and decide which artist we wanted.
Im a fan of strictly old school, traditional, Sailor Jerry style work but the bf is more of a fan of new school, cartoon like ish. With the all the portfolios considered, we decided on Kyle feeling he had a good range of skills that would hopefully accommodate both styles.
We were able to talk to him right away and he was actually able to fit one of us in that afternoon! We each wanted one so he scheduled one of us for Tuesday afternoon and one of us for Wednesday afternoon .
I decided to go first since I have a better pain tolerance than the bf (*hearts*) and didnt want to chicken out.
So we told Kyle both of our ideas and he said hed get my drawn up and see us in a few hours.
Be reminded this is my first (of many, many) tattoos.
And he did a really great job. He was great about making some fine tuning changes to the great drawing he came up with. He was super professional but also entertaining and is a fantastic artist. He took the design I had mentally, made it better and then made it beautiful on me. Its a perfect example of the style I love and what I wanted!
((And as far as the policy goes with not being 100% happy with an artist work, I know for a fact they will take care of you if there is something youre not pleased with. I wanted to edit some of the shading done on mine and Kyle was more than willing to have me come in once its healed. Sweet.))
And as far as he bfs tattoo, it is out of this effing world amazing. We simply told him what we wanted having no idea what it would actually look like. The drawing itself was incredible, I was in awe the entire time he was working on it and the finished result absolutely blew me away. It is absolutely gorgeous.
I will definitely be going back there for more things and I would most certainly recommend Kyle and Black Rose as a whole to anyone.

Really excited about this place! I just met and talked with Jasmine about a new piece for my legs and I’m scheduled for later next month (my schedule is booked). First off, I’m not a big fan of P.B. and parking is always crazy but I found a good spot off of Emerald and Cass Street. There is a little lot in the USPS office that is only $ 3.00 after store hours. Everyone at the shop was amazingly friendly, staff and customers. I brought my dog along for the drive and I was pleased to see two other dogs hanging out outside. Overall, great vibe, looking forward to my new tattoo!
