It’s a weird little trip into the 90’s. Décor wise. The food is 5 star for sure. Sooooo much better that slater 50⁄50. It’s build your own burger and mac and cheese. Service is good and very personable. But it’s a little weird. that’s the only thing holding me back from 5 star. but I will return again and again.

Best Mac-n-cheese ever! It’s great how you can build your own Mac n cheese. The jalapeño creamy sauce was so delicious! Perfect amount of peppers and sauce. I can’t wait to go back there! Great happy hour specials on Monday as well!

Love these guys and the restaurant atmosphere at Boomerangs! Everytime we go I try to create a burger that I haven’t designed before. They are always good! Can’t help but order the garlic fries, irresistible and fried really crunchy! I MooseDrool on tap was OUT that night :(, but they said they are getting more soon. Wish they were closer to my house, I would be there once a week!

Good food for decent price! Loved the atmosphere and the flavored tea! We did create your own burger and fries with Mac and cheese. Love all of the variety and options to customize! Definitely a great burger joint!

This is one of the best burger places anywhere. The way you can have your fixins mixed in the patty before it’s cooked is awesome and there are dozens of choices. Dozens of condinents. The sides are delicious too. A nice selection of beverages tops it off. This place just needs a better or an additional location and this could be very big deal.

Really tasty burgers just the way you want them. When was the last time meat juices ran down your chin? The guy who guided us through the experience was an instant friend. Absolutely loved him.

I just love the mojo of this place. The staff are FUNNY and always checking in with each customer to ensure you have what you want. The number of choices of food from appetizers to sauces are overwhelming. I would give them 5+++ Stars based on their service and attitude, but only 4 Stars for some of their dipping sauces. Need just to add HOMEMADEBUTTERMILKRANCH rather than pre-made due to the wang(only the picky Ranch lover notices). Loved the crispy fried zucchini and homemade potato chips! Really yummy! Look forward to my next choice of appetizer or entrée!

Really? Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Had their Mac & cheese and a burger. One bite in and I was having second thoughts about my decision to try new places. Don’t get me wrong, I felt like the guys that worked their were trying hard and were very hospitable. Unfortunately the food they served up was so bad, I left my leftovers in the parking lot. Similar to a boomerang, turn around and go the other way. #thirtydollarswaisted

We went to Boomerangs for the first time today for lunch on the recommendation of a friend. Arriving about 11:30AM we found we were the only guests in the Restaurant. We were welcomed by one of the owners Jose, who also served us. He explained how to order the custom made burgers, a four step process. First you choose your meat, beef, turkey, chicken, buffalo etc. Then you choose three topping either inside or on top of the Burger it comes with lettuce, onion, tomato and pickles), followed by the types of cheese you want and finally you choose your side. I chose a Turkey Burger with Mushrooms, Onions and Peppers, with Swiss Cheese and an order of Onion Rings(see photo). My better half also went for the Turkey Burger, but got the Mashed Potatoes as a side on the advice of Jose. All Burgers are made fresh, so it takes a little time to make them. The Onion Rings are also made fresh. We took the time while we waited to talk to Jose who is an outgoing and affable fellow who likes to cook. Our food came after about 15 – 20 minutes and we were both pleased with our burgers, which were well cooked, tasty and all the ingredients were fresh. A burger each for us was enough and we were unable to finish the tasty sides which we took with us. The Mashed Potatoes had bits of bacon in them, a hint of garlic and blue cheese. Very nice! The rings were twice breaded with Panko and not greasy at all, but crunchy. A pleasant lunch experience, but a bit pricey, two burgers, two sides, a coke and an ice tea came to $ 29.00 plus tip. This is about the same as you will spend at Islands, Burger Lounge and similar place, but I think the ingredients are better here. The lack of customers was puzzling, but the presence of a full bar, about ten beers on tap and many tables point to more of a dinner crowd. The one thing I did not like and neglected to mention to Jose was that in the room with the bar in which were seated there were four TV’s on at the same time, tuned to three different channels and tow with the sound on. You really notice that when you’re the only guests. Anyway, four stars for now after one visit. We will be back and I will add and revise this review as needed. For now I can recommend Boomerangs.

TBH One of the better burgers I have had. I got the Bad Breath burger it was garlicky goodness and the grilled onions were spot on. The burger itself was juicy and cooked to perfection. My girlfriend got the veggie patty and garlic fries and really liked both the party and the fries. We will be back!

Trying to find Boomerangs, it’s easy to miss. It’s not exactly in the most obvious location especially given the large shopping areas in its vicinity. Then you find it, walk in, and find an empty room. Ooh, you need to walk up the awkward stairs to find signs of life! The people up the stairs… As I’m writing this, I’m beginning to realize it’s beginning to sound like a horror movie. Thankfully, the people up the stairs are not in-bred cannibals. They’re actually pretty friendly. Our waiter helpfully explained how to use the menu. I’m not sure if «helpfully» is sarcastic or not, but the gist is that burger toppings get mixed in with the meat before cooking. I order the bad breath burger with garlic, horseradish, and gorgonzola. So far, so good. But… in no way did I get bad breath, which is to say there was very little flavor in the burger. Despite GARLIC and HORSERADISH and GORGONZOLA. I’m not sure if more of any of those would have been the solution, but something was drastically needed to justify the $ 11.99 price. Besides that, the burger tasted very dry despite dripping with some grease. Summary: This boomerang didn’t go boom.

It is a wonder how this restaurant is still in business. My husband and I have been here several times over a period of years with several years in between each visit with the hope that it would get better because we live close by, it’s kid friendly and we like to support local businesses. The first time my husband and I visited it was date night so just the two of us. It’s hard to figure out how to get to the actual restaurant as there is seating downstairs but no wait staff is there to guide you or a sign to send you upstairs which is the only location I’ve ever seen anyone sitting. On that night we met Jose and thought he and the place were quirky and we went with it(just happy to be out). Jose was nice but the service was slow and we were kind of bewildered because there were only two other couples in the entire restaurant. It was years ago so I don’t remember what food we ordered but I remember the flat, warm beer and being bummed about that. We ended up going back about a year later with the kids hoping that it might be better. Again, the place was pretty empty. Jose got the kids set up with crayons and coloring books. My husband had a burger and said it was ok. The kids had chicken tenders and fries(they finished the fries and left most of the chicken which they never do). I had a salad which was ok. And again, the dreaded warm beer. We went back a few weeks ago(about two years since our previous visit) and we have officially thrown in the towel on this place. Again, the place was a ghost town with what looked to be a couple of regulars sitting at the bar. Super-attentive service from Jose which was nice. The only food that we consumed were the chips they brought to the kids while we waited for our order and the fries the kids got with their meal. My husband had the philly sandwich with meat so tough he couldn’t chew it. I got chili fries with chili that tasted like canned chili — bad canned chili. My boys ate about a quarter of their chicken tenders and that’s it. My boys have chicken tenders wherever we go and this is the first place they have not finished their tenders. To top it all off — WARMBEER! Oh Boomerangs — I wanted to love you. Or at least like, like you. I can forgive a lot if a cold beer is part of the deal. Unfortunately, Jose’s good customer service isn’t enough to ever get us back.

Such a disappointment! I really wanted to love this place, but the burger was dry, but the service was very friendly. What drew me into the create your own burger was picking three«toppings» that get mixed into the ground beef patty. I went with bacon, artichoke hearts, and pineapple. Upon first bite, I was like where is everything? Well, everything was there, but it was chopped pretty fine and eventually started rolling out of the patty with every bite.(The mix ins didn’t do anything to enhance the flavor of the burger.) And as I sad earlier, the meat was dry, so it didn’t really«hold» together well. On the bright side, the bun was excellent. For my side, I went with the sweet potato fries. It was a generous portion, but they were kind of cold. Unlike a boomerang, I won’t be coming back.

Good Burger Week Deal! For $ 10 we got a burger with fries and a drink. I was DD so I passed over the shock top. We went on the last day of Burger Week, a Monday Night and the place was pretty empty. The upside really entertaining customer service. The guy who helped us was super friendly and ended up sitting with us and telling us some stories. The location is kind of obscure, so make sure you gps and head upstairs. The actual burger that was on special was a garlic one. I love garlic, so I loved the burger. The actual cost of the dish without the special is not really worth the trip for me. Overall, it was a good burger. The fries were good and the service was great! I would give this place 3.5 stars just the experience was really great, but prices not worth it.

CITYBEATBURGERWEEK #5 They call it the«Bad Breath Burger»: Black angus beef stuffed with bleu cheese crumbles, onions and roasted red peppers. Topped with grilled fresh mushrooms. Pretty darn good, though they could’ve smashed the patty flatter so that it covered the entire diameter of the bun(see photo). I got the $ 10 Burger Week deal with garlicfries and a cold pint of Shocktop. Otherwise all that probably would’ve been $ 15−17ish, a bit steep. I liked the bartender and staff, but the bland casual atmosphere is nothing to rave about. Then again, this is Clairemont.

«I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.» — J. Wellington Wimpy It’s San Diego CityBeat Burger Week, and one of the offerings is at Boomerangs, a small two-story burger place off of Clairemont Mesa Blvd. For $ 5, you could get the Bad Breath Burger(a black angus burger, garlic crusted; stuffed with garlic, fresh horseradish and gorgonzola cheese, topped with grilled onions, fresh red onion, lettuce and tomato, and a side of garlic horseradish mayo), and for $ 10, you could get the burger with a side of garlic peppered fries and either a soda or a bottle of draft beer(manager’s choice… and as I’m not a draft beer guy, I went with a Diet Coke). Now, those who really know me know I LOVE garlic — the more, the better! And with the above description of the Bad Breath Burger, I was looking forward to trying this out. After unhinging my jaw(yes, this burger’s quite huge), I was actually a bit surprised to see that the garlic wasn’t as overpowering as I thought it would be… but then again, if it was too strong, it wouldn’t taste as good. The patty was very fresh, with a bit of char to it and cooked the way I wanted, which was medium well. The fries were freshly cut, and while they weren’t as crisp as I would’ve liked, the garlic on them was just right. Boomerangs itself is quite interesting; most of the dining is done upstairs in the spacious dining room or in the bar lounge. I had arrived before 5 pm and was seated at the lounge — as the evening progressed, the lounge filled with hungry customers. The employees are really nice — I believe that it’s the owners seating customers and taking orders, and I spent some time before I left talking with one of them about the place. And, the place is a bit of an art gallery as well, showcasing works from a local artist. I’d like to come back again to try my hand at the build your own burger option.

After reading the positive reviews for this establishment, I am worried that humanity doesn’t deserve this beautiful planet. After coming in and being greeted, my friend and I waited roughly 15 minutes while the waiter and what I believe to be the owner ignored us as they serviced those around us. After several minutes of discussion, we opted to bolt and go to another place that was recommended for San Diego CityBeat’s burger week.(Black Thorn Pub on Clairemont Dr. Service was spot on and food was good.) As we make it out a backdoor that has stairs which lead to the parking lot, the owner chases us out. Exclaiming«I’m ready for you now! Come back in, I’ll take care of you!» We both politely said no thanks and rebuffed him several times. At this point he got rude and took an attitude with us as his husky, sweaty frame squared aggressively to us. I told him he shouldn’t be so rude to customers, to which he cursed at me. My response? «I am going to destroy you on Unilocal.» His response? «Go ahead, I don’t care!» Can’t make this stuff up, folks.

Came here with a friend on Saturday around 3pm. Granted it was a weird hour to be getting lunch, but it looked like a ghost town. Boomerangs is designed interestingly because the restaurant is located on the second floor of the building and the downstairs(main entrance) has a large dining room and the restroom. It was both our first time and we were really concerned that there was no one there, but nevertheless, we decided to stay. When we entered, our waiter greeted us, and it seemed like he was the only person in the entire restaurant. He was very friendly and helpful and introduced us to the menu and gave us some recommendations. We ended up both settling on the«build-your-own-burger.» What’s really cool about it is that you can add«mix-ins» and they’ll put anything from mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, among other spices into the meat patty and grill it with the veggies integrated into the burger. I ordered the turkey burger with onions, mushrooms, and pineapple with a side of mac’n’cheese. The burger was pretty mediocre and honestly, did not taste that great. The patty was dry and lacked flavour. In addition, the burger bun was also dry and was just not that appetizing. The mac’n’cheese had a grainy consistency and tasted watered down for some reason. Granted, their portions were huge… I read reviews before going and I saw that people had good experiences, so maybe it was just this one time. Overall, I don’t think I’ll be returning because the food just wasn’t worth it; however, the service was great. TL;DR: Food: 1.5÷5 — Ordered the burger and didn’t like it because it lacked flavour and spices Service: 4⁄5 — We were the only group there Price: $$
