Sorry to see Bo’s Seafood Market & Grill closed. This was the best place in San Diego for fish tacos. The staff was knowledgable and the food was excellent. I hope to discover Bo’s re-opening in San Diego.

The clam chowder was very good but the rest of my lunch was a flop. I ordered fish and chips. Fish was overcooked and tasted like old oil. Taste did not set well with me. Came with seasoned fries that looked seasoned but were very bland. Cabbage salad had no dressing on it. This lunch left me very unsatisfied.

Bo has the fish down pat. No one cooks fish more perfectly that this place. Try the true cod cajon style. WOW. Also, for the best Clam Chowder in socal, come here. None better, anywhere. HANDSDOWN

So, I’ve been going to Blue Water grill & then I spotted this place when I went to Trader Joe’s. It’s in the same shopping center — HUB formerly Uptown. Anyway, they also feature a fresh fish display which you can take to cook yourself or have them prepare for you. You choose the fish & then can do sandwich, salad or entrée. I chose the salmon sandwich which come with seasoned fries. I got my salmon blackened & why I prefer this to Blue Water — they char grill your fish. They have a selection of craft beer on draft & bottles. There are booths & talked & the owner, Bo is really friendly & happy to «talk fish» with you.

It’s unfortunate that many kids develop a distaste for seafood as the result of poorly made fish sticks or fast food sandwiches. I wanted to introduce my nephew to a more mature seafood offering, so I found a seafood buffet where he could take courtesy bites without being wasteful, while expanding his horizons. We had a most excellent server who acted as a guide for my nephew. While it wasn’t a complete conversion, he is now able to say with confidence that he does enjoy some seafoods, mission accomplished.

First thing I noticed was a small selection of fresh fish displayed next to the counter. Not a very large menu to choose from, but all the fish is made to order! There’s a list of daily specials right above the register, so my bf and I ordered from that. Our wait time was about 15ish minutes with no other customers. I ordered the grilled salmon taco special. Came with one taco for about $ 5. Kinda pricey but the side of rice and beans must’ve been inexpensive for my total bill to be $ 17, including my bf’s $ 10 order. The fish taco was so good! Came with shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, slice of avocado, and a spicy chipotle-like dressing. I didn’t eat too much rice, but killed the pinto beans. The bf ordered the salmon half sandwich and cup of clam chowder. He nodded with approval when I asked how his food was. Guess it was too good to put down!

For some reason I was craving a whole fish, so I took to Unilocal and looked into where I could go to fulfill my craving. Bo’s had good reviews and wasn’t too far from home so to Bo’s we went. We were greeted promptly as we entered by a very courteous gentleman. I ordered the whole branzino plate. It usually comes with veggies and brown rice but I asked if I could have fries instead and the gentleman quickly obliged. He asked me how I wanted my fish seasoned(Cajun or lemon and olive oil). He recommended Cajun so I went with it. My husband ordered the baja fish tacos(one grilled one fried). We also ordered a cup of clam chowder. It was a Sunday evening and there were plenty of seats in the seat yourself dining area. Our clam chowder was brought over promptly. It was pretty good. My branzino was absolutely perfect-seasoned to perfection, meaty, nicely smoked, absolute perfection. My husband was given shrimp tacos instead of fish. We didn’t complain because they were friggin delicious! All in all a good experience!

The best fish & chips in San Diego bar none, and the best grilled fish sandwich — just make sure to get shark or swordfish if available; tuna does not work as well. Great, lightly seasoned fries. Also a good place for a healthy grilled fish plate or fish tacos with brown rice & veggies. Biggest problem is they need to figure out how to thoroughly clean their tables — they are always just a little sticky. And their cole slaw is not bad, but could be better.

I got the fish an chips for myself and my daughter an was greatly disappointed. The fryer temperature was too high so the outside was crispy an inside mushy, probably frozen before they cooked it. Not to mention the size of the fish was tiny. The fries were extra crispy as well. My wife got the grilled shrimp tacos an the shrimp was burnt. So much so that they were actually bitter. The fried calamari was pretty good though. Overall not very satisfied an we will not be returning. Not once did the waiter ask if our food was ok. Dropped off our food an was already talking to the customer behind us. Didn’t even acknowledge us.

My wife had stomach problems all day after we ate lunch there. She had Tuna salad sandwich and cole slaw Honestly thought the food was not good at all. Fish and chips had strange taste . Your counter help and service was very good though. Going to request a refund unfortunately. Will not be back.

$ 16 for dinner and I get two burnt Baja fish tacos and a side of dried rice and beans. It may have been because I came in 30 minutes before closing but man, if you’re going to be ‘open’ at least attempt to serve decent food. The only reason I’m giving this two stars is for their clam chowder. I got a cup of it with bacon in it. The bacon made the soup taste like baked potato soup, and probably should have been called that since I didn’t see any clams in it. Also, when a customer says they have never been to the restaurant before and asks whether to get the grilled or fried Baja tacos, it would be nice to have a response instead of staring out into the empty tables of the restaurant. Never again.

Sad — was hungry for fish but we both lost our appetite when food came. Guy behind counter playing on his phone don’t care. Why should I? Oh yeah, because my friend and I just spent $ 30 on an odd tasting codfish sandwich, two inedible(what kind of dry, pink mystery fish was that?) fish tacos, rice and dry bland red beans, twice fried fries.(You know, the kind they make in the frier, let sit all morning and then heat up in oil again when you order). Mmmmm, yummy! Of course, we went to support locally; Wanted to go try something different. But we left needing antacid support. Management– recommendations: Clean the tables, serve fresh fries, make sure fish is always good.

Nice little joint in the Uptown District part of Hillcrest. We came in just after the lunch hour and the place was empty. The nice guy at the counter explained the menu and their daily fresh fish options. We both opted for the lunch special of a half true cod sandwich and cup of chowder for ten bucks. Wish that included a drink, but that was separate. To our surprise, the cod was NOT breaded and fried as we expected. It was perfectly grilled, as was the sourdough bread it came on. The bread was grilled on both sides without being dunked in butter or oil. Also in the sandwich was a spring mix of lettuce, some avocado and tomato. It was finished with a light spread of their tartar sauce which was the perfect compliment. Probably the best fish sandwich I’ve had. Same thing for the chowder. Big and plentiful chunks of clam with some potato, carrot and(I think) onion. The base was not too thick. Topped with crumbled bacon! Awesome flavor and textures! We’ll be back next time we’re in the area. Good job, Bo!

i’m on the same page as fellow Unilocaler, Ken D. The food was not as good as other more casual seafood restaurants. I’d be fine with the food I had if I paid Long John Silver prices, but when paying $ 14 for a shrimp platter, I’d like the food to have a little more pizzaz. The batter on both the shrimp and fish had no flavor. The coleslaw didn’t blow me away either. On the flip side… came here a few weeks back and ordered some tuna to go, and it was excellent, as was the service! The guy working there made sure the tuna was cut just how we wanted– super friendly. Will definitely go back to buy more to-go fish. Don’t think I’ll dine in again.

While the guy at the counter was nice and the fish was fresh, I was far from impressed. My main issue was that the dishes were not«restaurant dishes» and I could make the same dishes at home. I love the concept of simple fish preparations, but I really wish they had more interesting sauces and toppings. I had a halibut sandwich and had all the ingredients currently in my fridge at home minus the fish. For a $ 16 sandwich, I wanted more of a restaurant dish with creativity and ingenuity. It was served with a very bland tarter. I thought the fries were completely bland as well, they looked cajun but tasted like nothing… plus I didn’t like the odd size of the fries. I would like to see more side options… maybe shoestring fries for sauteed veggies. The biggest disappointment was that our Shrimp Louis salad contained tiny tiny tiny bay shrimp(each smaller than the size of a dime). I would have never ordered it if I had known. We wanted a salad to share and should’ve opted for the house salad… this was a huge waste of $ 11. The cole slaw was also flavorless. Though, my husband enjoyed his fish & «chips» and I agree it had a nice crispiness. Overall, if you want simple, minimally-processed fish dishes, then you may like it here. Personally I don’t like to order anything at restaurants that I could make better myself.

We were looking for a quick and casual place for a bite during a day trip to San Diego and Bo’s Seafood seemed ideal. For me, the #1 sin for a seafood restaurant is to over cook the fish. Unfortunately during our visit, the fish was seriously over cooked. We had fish tacos and fish plate. In all cases, the fish was so over done the meat was dry and tasteless. We had to resort to dunking the fish in our steam clam broth or slathering it with tartar sauce. Maybe the cook was new. Who knows. But I suggest you mention how you like your fish cooked at the time you place your order. The clam chowder was great. Full of flavor(bacon bits didn’t hurt) and clams. Also the steam clams were cooked just right and broth was flavorful. Too bad our first visit was disappointing but hoping our experience was the exception given their high ratings.
