Canvas Church

Awesome environment, this church knows how to make you feel welcomed. I love how the Pastor’s massage is directly from the bible. Worship here has always made me feel the presence of God.
I would highly recommend to stop by if you are looking to visit a church.

AMAZING, AMAZING, and AMAZING! Canvas is such and amazing church. They have wonderful people attending and serving. Each person that attends Canvas has a great personality and genuinely cares about one another. I grew up in a church, but never truly felt at home, until I attended Canvas. Just recently, I graduated from their Canvas School of Ministry program. So great! I’ve learned so much about, not only my beliefs, but about who God truly is, what he’s done, what he’s called us to do, etc. they have so much to offer. Also, serving in Canvas Kids is fantastic. Each child gets treated with respect, and gets to learn about our Father in heaven. Every Sunday, I get a warm welcome and a warm, «See you sometime this week!» and that makes me so happy! To know I not only have a church I attend, but that I have a family there that loves and cares about me. One last thing, Pastor Ben and Katie and fantastic! Extremely funny and loving! I love my church!

Canvas Church is an amazing church, my life and relationship with Jesus have changed because of the powerful messages from Pastor Ben, the awesome relationships that have formed from such amazing loving people. I love this church because its real. I love seeing so many people running after Christ and serving him so faithfully. I love seeing a church who walks along side people and encourages you to continue and deeper your relationship with God. They want you to use your gifts to serve God. I used to attend a really big church so I started looking for a smaller, more community oriented church and came across Canvas. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming and I really enjoy the worship. It’s evident that the people here love God and everyone around them. I especially love that the pastor preaches the Word in a challenging and encouraging way. I have learned and grown so much in the short time I’ve been here. Highly recommended!

Canvas Church is pretty amazing. Very welcoming and friendly. The church gets really involved in the community with events and service. There are a lot of resources for members and attendees. They hold very authentic, biblical views — the truth with love. Great community.

I’ve attended Canvas for a few years now and by far what keeps me being a part is that it’s like a family. I am a single young professional and don’t have family in San Diego which could be hard, but what I lack in a natural family I have a surplus of those at Canvas who are there when I can’t go home for a holiday or when I need a hand. I’ve built incredible friendships through Canvas that make me a stronger person.
Not to mention that they have great pastors who live what they preach and are transparent, they preach the gospel with simplicity, practicality and with power.

I have been to many churches where you feel just like an attendee every Sunday. It is more of a ritual than anything else. However Canvas is family, they genuinely care about everyone that walks through their doors and go out of their way to make you feel at home. I love knowing I have a church family that will pray or rejoice with me in all of life’s up and downs. I love Canvas!

I’ve been attending canvas for a few years and have had the opportunity to be involved in the sound, kids ministry, and community groups. I’m grateful that when I need help (some people from church helped move my family because I couldn’t get off work) physically or spiritually I can call, text, or Facebook someone and someone will respond and I’m not just talking about a staff member. After all church is people not some faceless entity.

Canvas is a great church with an awesome kids ministry. I love that my children look forward to going to church every week. The messages are inspiring and the people are welcoming.

I love being part of the Canvas Church family, they have been there for my husband and I and can’t wait to have my babies and see them grow here :) it’s hard to find a church where you can find people that truly love God, His Word and His presence and that’s why we are part of Canvas, no watered down NOTHING here, and I know that our Pastors truly love God and have an amazing anointing over lives, I love and admire them so much! If you are looking for a church that tells it like it is come check out Canvas Church and get ready! :)

After an examination of their website, there is NO financial transparency regarding their expenditures which I consider a RED FLAG! Too many churches these days treat it like a business and instead of benevolence, they focus on luring new attendees with designer coffee, watered down gospel, free gifts for 1^st time visitors, coffee, donuts, paid musicians, elaborate stage setups, expensive silk plants, paid special music, etc. There is a page dedicated to giving them money online, but nothing teling you how it will be or was spent. =(
I do have a friend that goes here and his family seems to like it, but I question the church’s decision to hold services SO CLOSE to 2 other non-​denoms in the immediate area (New Break & Barabbas Roads churches.)
The area would have been better served by combining with one of the two other churches both within a mile or so, and saving the million dollars annually the church takes in, and putting it towards benevolence in the community. THAT IMO goes MUCH further in converting those in the community than yet another church that struggles to pay it’s bills and has to badger it’s parishioners regularly for money. When will we learn that we don’t need more churches, but more caring believers whose money and resources are put towards loving & sharing others rather than yet another church in competition with the one down the street?

I see that someone from Canvas responded, and looks like promptly told their staff or parishioners to get on Unilocal and post positive reviews by looking at the dates of the reviews all within a week or so of my initial review! If you’d worked this hard on transparency with your finances, I wouldn’t have been so disappointed to begin with. As of today, STILL no financial disclosure other than stating on your site that 10% of the money taken in goes to plant more churches. As soon as you post a detailed list or even a pie chart on your site as to where the money is being spent, I will delete this review.
Canvas did not come along side as I see it, Canvas came into an established neighborhood looking to take market share from two established non-​denoms in the area. Partnering? Coming alongside? THat could have been done by sharing a building with the other church (s) in town, splitting the rental costs and using the remainder of the funds for benevolence.
If you go to a church where there is no disclosure on finances, ask yourself why. What could they be hiding? I’ve worked in several area churches in recent years and have friends who still do. Maybe it’s because many of these mega-​church or even smaller church pastors are taking a fairly hefty salary? Oh, but they’ll tell you they only get paid $ 3,500k a mo in salary. WHat they won’t tell you is that they get a tax free $ 3000 a mo housing allowance, $ 500 a mo. car allowance, a church gas card, insurance paid for, budget for entertaining & meals out… Next thing you know, this $ 3,500 a mo. salary is equivalent to a person making at or abouve 6 figures who actually has to pay taxes on all their money. We NEED to be demanding more transparency from our religious institutions. And, better efficiency. Did you know that we don’t see paid pastors or church buildings in the new testament? Boy have we gotten away from that model. 90% of the money people give stays within the church and goes to covering costs associated with holding sunday services. That’s just how he likes it. SMH.

Sadly, still no listing of where the money goes on the link that the responder provided above nearly a year and a half ago. That should be very telling people.

Still no financial info as promised. People, if your church hides where they spend the money, maybe it is because they’re not speding it in the proper way.
In other news, Canvas moved from Pacific Beach to TierraSanta just a ½ mile away from a large Non-​Denom church called New Break Church. Such a shame to see resources wasted on a duplicate location. THe 2 Church’s mission statements/​statement of beliefs are virtually identical… so why the need for redundancy? Because all that money that could be going to benevolence & missions is going to support an additional building and staff.
And, I’m dropping my review to a 1 star until they can publish something on their site as promised, because now Ben is making himself out to be a liar and misrepresenting God and His church.
