Casa Artelexia

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Every time I visit I want to take something home! Going to this store reminds me of Mexico’s beauties that are just across the border. It’s a convenient place to find Mexican art and not take the trip to Mexico, it’s like a little piece of Mexico comes to you. The prices are the only downfall for me. I wish they were more «Mexican priced», of course you can’t haggle but everything is easily double or triple the price they would be in Mexico. Still… sometimes worth it because you’re not the one shipping the product over from Mexico. Definitely one of San Diego’s gem! I’ll always stop by if I’m in the area.

Such an awesome shop! My husband and I could have bought everything (if only our wallets would have accommodated it), and we had a blast talking to the owner and her mom. We’ll be back for more beautiful Oaxacan homewares!

Okay this is my update:
I was actually able to talk to Elexia. She explained to me the reasons for not replying in a timely manner and apologize for any inconveniences.
Since I really think this place is super cool and I really wanted to host my event here I decided to give it a try. So, I booked my event here, even though I didn’t get the best costumer service at the beginning.
Well, let me tell you that so far so good. The costumer service has been super good. She’s been really helpful, responds to all my questions and concerns, and she’s been able to accommodate my requests.
I haven’t been to Casa Artelexia yet, but I do follow them on IG and it looks awesome. My friend attended their Dia De Los Muertos celebration earlier this month and she had nothing but good things to say about the place and the event.
I’m super excited and look forward to host my event here in February 2016. I’m sure my guests will enjoy it as well.

There is no store in all of California that is better to get anything Mexican. The quality, beauty and diversity of Casa Artelexia’s products is something anybody who appreciates Mexican culture must come see. They’ve got everything from super inexpensive gift ideas to exceptionally priced works of art. They’ve helped me special order different things over the past few years, and the service, quality and value has always far exceeded my expectations. Not only is this the premier spot to get your Mexican inspired gift for yourself or someone else, this place is simply the best run, coolest store in all of San Diego, period.

Great and awesome merchandise, very high quality. Fun and innovative. If you are looking for a colorful and nice gift, or just something for the home, they have it all…

A great place to visit for gift and more. There are endless rooms in here and each one had interesting items. There was even a little art exhibit going on in one of the rooms. This was an unexpected stop on our way to another art show, but I’m so glad we wandered in. I’ll definitely be back for more shopping.

Can’t tell if their inventory is reduced since moving into the new space or if it is just an illusion because the space is larger. Just doesn’t seem like they have as much as they did across the street. Some interesting and excellent pieces though. Disappointed in the lack of wood carvings. I will definitely return on my next San Diego visit. Pricing is not cheap.

Recently went to a Valentines piñata making workshop. What fun! They had a great selection of materials and the environment was lovely.

I finally made it to Casa Artalexia! I had been trying to get there so many time, and had passed by each time I made my trek to Kettner Nights, but they close early. I love Day of the Dead, bright colors, and hand crafted jewelry and decorations so I was happy to finally make there. I was looking for a birthday gift for my cousin, and found some great jewelry. I also spent time looking through the entire store… I wanted to buy everything! There were some of the most original Day of the Dead figurines that I have ever seen. I loved the magnets and postcards. There were a lot of housewares and kitchen items, including tons of decorative bottle openers. The ladies who were working there were very friendly and checked in with me a few times to see if I needed help. I mulled through tops, handbags, and aprons. I think I know where I will be buying a few gifts in the future! They also have art classes. I’d like to go back for a class and learn to make my own sugar skull.
I also love how they fill their shopping bags and other items with colored confetti!

I have been to Casa Artelexia several times, both to just pop in and shop around and for events, and absolutely love it. It’s so hard to not want to purchase everything in the store with how unique and fun it all is… definitely the perfect place if you need a gift for somebody, or yourself! Elexia, the owner, is so sweet and helpful as are the other women whom have been working while I’ve been there! Worth the visit to little Italy :-)

First off, I’d love to start my review off by saying that the owner here is the true treasure you’ll find as you shop here. Along with the most awesome selection of Mexican Folk art, Day Of The Dead art and much, much more, if you get the chance to speak with Alexia you’ll see what a truly great person and affable young woman she is.
My wife and I picked up the one and only large Virgin De Guadalupe painting with the amazing Milagros frame years ago now, I believe it could be well over 3 years ago now, along with some really beautiful hearts encrusted with Milagros as well, Alexia helped up pick everything out.
The shop used to be down the street in a vintage house, now it’s in a much larger venue with much more selection. There is always something going on here. Get on the newsletter and see for yourself how many events this place puts on.

I was very disappointed at the lack of friendliness and acknowledgement.
I do admit the place is adorned and beautifully, artful.
No one said hello, smile, they walked around busily. I felt like I was in there way.
On the left side of the center of the store their is a bathroom. Which says El Baño.
It was not locked so I assume it’s for her clients.
I used the restroom first, then my child needed to use it,
The owner walks by and before she closed the door loudly said «Sorry! the restroom is out of use!!»
My daughter felt so embarrassed she walked out.
Come on! she was about to close the door.
That was just really rude!
One thing if it was out of order I get that!
but she was already closing the door!
I’ve been a fan and have bought a few things at her smaller more humbling store.
I also support all local Artist which she had an event tonight for David Lozeau Art exhibit, I will not attended or ever go to this store again.

Casa Artelexia is such a beautiful, colorful, soul inspiring store in the northern area of Little Italy. I you want to get inspiration and make your house a happy one, just go get some decoration items here. Quintessentially Mexican, you will feel like a Frida Kahlo (minus the moustache) enjoying some shopping spree or a Diego Rivera in search of his Frida;-). I still have to take one of the classes they offer from time to time, you can smell creativity and happiness in here. And of course, I follow their Pinterest page to see what the influences are! Forget about the touristic Old Town stores when you want some Mexican classy-​chic-​cute gifts. I think this is a better place.

Walked in on Saturday afternoon, I was the only person in the store. The girl behind the desk tries to smile but couldn’t quite pull it through.
Walk around looking at all the beautiful overpriced items, walk by the girl again and say «hi» and smile. She doesn’t even say hi back.
Wtf is wrong with you?

Remember the «good ol’ days»? The times of carelessly crossing the border into Mexico to get your Mexico fix? Whether it was a trip through TJ for good street fare, some Mexican ponchos & blankets, maybe a Titere, old string puppet, perhaps? or some Day of the Dead memorabilia? Mexican oil cloth for your next festive picnic and holiday celebration? Remember the effortless tours to Rosarito for a day of shopping, maybe you leave with ceramics adorned with hibiscus flowers, traditional milage crosses and a set of authentic handmade margarita glasses? And then in 2008 the drug cartel violence became literally catastrophic and very few cities and towns in Mexico, even in broad daylight, seemed safe to travel…
Well, I miss Mexico. A LOT! I feel like a bull in a china shop in here. Literally. There is so much shit for me to break and so many things for me to trip on that my ginger reflexes are on overload every time I come in.
That being said, this is an awesome place to come for gifts — they have tons of handmade glassware that all my friends rave about.
Unrelated, but here’s a tip for the perfect wedding gift to please both hubby and wife:
1. a set of nice glasses
2. cocktail ice cube trays (the big blocks)
3. shaker
4. glass stirrers
5. bar towels
6. cocktail recipe book
If you’re feeling super swank you can put a nice bottle of liquor in there too. You’re welcome. Now go to Artelexia!

My friend found this place and convinced me to go in for a sugar skull painting event. This place was sooooooo cute and cool! The owner Elexia was so sweet and helpful she made the whole experience in her store so much fun!
They have some very cool events for families and romantic nights alike! Elexia was telling us of movie nights, crafts etc. Sounded fun! I can’t wait to go to another event, shop here and hit up El Camino for drinks after! Bravo Artelexia I love your store!

What a great place. Such beautiful things & so friendly. I don’t know much about Mexican Folk Art, but this looks like the real deal, with gorgeous pieces that I don’t see in other places.
This business is really trying to bring something to the neighborhood. With special events like Day of the Dead celebrations. How can you not support that. This place is amongst some other great house stores, and art galleries. It’s well worth a stroll in this Little Italy North area on Kettner & India Streets.
By the way she also has a stall at the Little Italy Mercato on a Saturday morning.
