Day off and what to do? He: Let’s meet at Crab Shack! I had never been, so three of my colleagues and I decided to meet here. We should’ve planned to come early because the parking lot is a virtual clusterduck!!! That is really the only problem with this location! We thought parking downtown would be a problem. I circled twice… then circled four or five times around the block. Finally, 30 minutes later, someone on a side street left. Walking in, you can smell some of the spices used! They gave us a nice big table in the corner. We started with the Sampler Boat… Fried Shrimp, Crispy Calamari, Fish Fillet, Crab Poppers, Hush Puppies, Onion Rings, Sweet Potato Fries, Cajun Fries & Fried Okra… can we just say YUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMM! Because I’m a fatty, I ordered the Go to Town… King Crab Leg, Snow Crab Cluster, Shrimp, Crawfish, Mussels, Clams, Potatoes, Corn on the Cob and Sausages mixed in Crab Hut’s addictive Full House Sauce, with a lobster!!! Everything comes out in a big old plastic bag shaken up with the fullhouse sauce… cajun sensation, lemon pepper, and garlic butter! I am in seafood heaven!!! This was so much fun to break into, peel, and crack!!! You know that old parental saying, «Don’t play with your food!» Well, this is the place to break that rule! I did share some of my shrimp and crawdaddies with the crew… also shared that delicious lobster! The staff is great! Friendly and happy that we were enjoying our lunch! My hands smelled of spices all day!!! What a fun place to come to. They were also getting crowded. I will definitely be back!

Omg! Freaking amazing and I never give 5 stars! Our waitress was so attentive explaining how it everything works and what her suggestions were for our party of 5. The lobster is fresh, she even brought out the live lobster, that we were going to eat, to show our 2 year old nephew. We got the most expensive bucket and the sampler platter which was plenty for our group including two football player sized men. I suggest using the gloves, they came in handy. This place is way better than Joe’s Crab Shack!!! The inside is small but totally worth the food!!! This is our new go to place for seafood!

I really don’t understand what the rave is about this place. Maybe we ordered the wrong items, but I feel like all the food on a restaurant’s menu should be good. I ordered clam chowder to start and the calamari and fries as my meal. My husband for the gumbo and fried shrimp as his meal. First of all, we specified we wanted the soups first, they came 10 mins after our main meals were delivered. My clam chowder was very watery and nothing special. I’ve gotten better out of a can. The gumbo was disgusting. If you’ve ever had real gumbo before this tastes nothing like it. Have they been to Louisiana? The calamari was way over cooked and was rubbery. The fries were okay. My husband’s shrimp were also just okay. Spent $ 45 for two soups that weren’t eaten and seafood that wasn’t even good. Again, maybe had we ordered the crab we would have gotten better food, but what we got was pretty bad. I don’t know that I’d chance ordering $ 60 of crabs here.

As you probably read from my About Me section, I am a HUUUUGEHUUUGE fan of cajun/creole food. Growing up in Alabama where we were right next door to Mississippi and Louisiana, I found well-seasoned, savory Southern food quite comforting. I came to Crab Hut about six years ago when I was still a college student and had mixed feelings about Crab Hut. At that time as a poor college student, I thought Crab Hut was pricey and the seafood was not as fresh or seasoned to my liking. Six years later, we came back because my fiancé had an inkling for crab legs, and my opinion changed. We ordered: — Seafood Bucket: included bag full of King Crab Leg, Snow Crab Cluster, Shrimp, Crawfish, Mussels, Clams, Potatoes, Corn on the Cob and Sausages mixed in Crab Hut’s special Full House Sauce. The seafood was really fresh, but felt the Full House Sauce was a bit overpowering. We actually took home leftovers and diluted it down with a can of fish broth, and it turned out p-e-r-f-e-c-t. So perfect we even froze down the broth for later use. We BAMMED it with so much garlic that even Dracula would run for the hills from us! — Cajun Wings & Fries: Hand battered chicken wings deep fried with cajun seasoning. I have got to admit, for a cajun/seafood place, Crab Hut makes bomb Cajun Wings! I would even place it in the category of Phuong Trang goodness. And that says a lot about the wings! –Crawdad’s Tomato Basil: Rich tomato soup with crawfish and shrimp. I thought this tasted a-okay. Could probably make it at home with a Blentec. There is quite a wait for a table when we came, so you can walk around in the plaza during busy hours. They give cute lobster hats for birthday celebrations! Service is great, multiple waiters/waitresses walk around to check-up on refills and requests. It is quite hard to find an authentic, affordable cajun/creole restaurant in San Diego(Bud’s Louisiana Café is another great one, but is on the pricey end). Crab Hut is a good place to come to for that cajun taste. Be ready to dive in and get your hands dirty!

Happy hour specials during the weekday from 2−5pm. $ 1 oysters, $ 0.50 chicken wings, and more! If you haven’t tried Crab Hut, I’d definitely recommend it! They have a large menu of seafood ranging from shrimp to clams. I love ordering the shrimp with corn and sausages. Food is pretty flavorful and staff is polite. The only problem with this place is that parking can be a pain sometimes. Be sure to plan ahead and it should not be a problem!

Came here right at lunch on a Sunday and there wasn’t any wait at all. We ordered the $ 55SEAFOODBUCKET w FULLHOUSE sauce, the FISH n CHIP, MIXEDFRIES and 1lbs of live CRAWFISH. Which came out to $ 38 incld tips for 3 people. The seafood was fresh we really liked it. The seafood bucket has lots of corn and sausages. However it only has one king crab leg, half a dungeness crab so each person can try only one piece of the more expensive seafood. The fries were also delicious and crispy. The big headed live craw fish was also very fresh. Our waiter and service were amazing. They also split the credit cards 3 way, which was great! The sauce was also pretty good. One of our friend couldn’t eat spicy so I couldn’t experience the full flavor of the FULLHOUSE sauce though.

I guess this is another review that is long overdue as Crab Hut has been my recommendation for New Orleans Style seafood boil in San Diego. To be fair, this location’s parking is an absolute nightmare. I really hate it and feel sorry for all the good establishments in this complex. Anyway with that aside, this place has been open a while but gets very good business even now. Sunday night, hour before closing, we didn’t have to wait for a table of 6 but 95% of the tables were filled. The service was polite and everything came rather quickly so no complaints there. Gave us a slight heads up on the kitchen closing soon near the end of our dinner just in case we wanted more, much appreciated. We ordered 2 pounds of crawfish, 1 pound of shrimp, a dozen raw oysters, fried oysters with fries, chicken wings with fries, extra corn, seafood gumbo, regular gumbo, beer and soda. The everything sauce is just perfect, medium spicy isn’t to bad, but you should try according to your own tolerance. Crawfish just doesn’t have as much meat as shrimp but it is a favorite. I guess if your’e going for bang for your buck get the shrimp… but i just can’t say no to it=) Everything is sold at market price per pound so ask beforehand. As for the other stuff, oysters were good just not that impressive. Lately I’ve been getting used to large very succulent fresh oysters so I’d say I’m biased. As for the fried stuff, it’s good, crispy, uniform and hot. Great to go with beer and the aromatic sauces coming from the bags. Use the bibs and gloves, this place turns everyone into a ravenous sloppy mess! *Drools*

This rating is based purely on the consistent incorrect Gratuity suggestions. The crabs, delicious. The oysters are delicious and fresh. The service is solid. The complaint is the funky math on the gratuity suggestions were a $ 12.96 bill has the following suggested amounts of: 15% = $ 3.00 18% = $ 3.60 20% = $ 4.00 Maybe this is part of that new math movement, but try as may, try as I might, this gratuity doesn’t add up to right.

Great service great food but super duper über bad parking situation. Came here on a Saturday night and waiting for a parking space was a living hell. The parking lot is small and cramped so whenever a car is trying to get out, it takes forever! Not to mention blocking all the cars that are trying to get in. My advice would be just don’t even come in to the plaza and try to find parking on the street(which is also very hard). We ended up parking three blocks away after circling for what seemed like forever. We waited for about 10 – 15 min for a two party table to open up which was not bad at all. We ordered 1 lb of shrimp, clams, and mussels with mild full house sauce. The sauce was pretty awesome, can’t get enough of it! We also got a side of fries which was just ok. Service was very attentive and prompt. We ended up so full that we were kind of glad we parked our car further because we needed that walk to digest all that seafood. Will be coming back when I crave seafood and don’t care how I look when I eat.

Been here many times and have always enjoyed the goodness. The seafood is fresh and their seasoning is always on point. Parking is and always has been the issue but with the opening of another location in Mira Mesa, makes this place more of a reasonable place to eat. My wife and I normally get the seafood deal for $ 55 and it’s well worth it. The crab legs, shrimp and mussels are so damn good and filling. The additional items such as potatoes and corn on the cob just add to the goodness. We usually end up adding garlic toast and mixed fries so for lunch or dinner for two expect to spend $ 70-$ 80. Not cheap but well with it. The servers are friendly and very hard working and the place is always spotless. I’m also a fan of their deep fried calamari. Once every other month to visit this place is good for me… Seafood is damn good! Good for the tummy but not for the wallet lol.

My favorite peel-it yourself shrimp place! Compared to other places like boiling crab, crab town, etc, crab hut is my absolute FAV. I always get a pound of their shrimp and corn soaked with either the lemon pepper seasoning or the house sauce which is a combination of all their sauces. I like the sauce here the most because unlike other places, it is not too salty so you are still able to taste the sweetness of the shrimp. Their shrimp is always SUPER fresh and very easy to peel! Dipping it with extra fresh lemon and salt and pepper makes it all the more delicious. I also never skip out on ordering the cajun mixed fries with my shrimp which has a combination of regular potato fries, waffle fries, and sweet potato fries with the best cajun seasoning you will ever have in your life. They have happy hour at 2pm where a lot of good sides like oysters, wings, and fries are all cheaper than usual! I recommend the crab poppers. SOOOGOOD; a combination of crabbyness, sweet, and salty all fried into a bread-crumb batter. These are an absolute MUST, especially during their happy hour. Located in the busiest plaza on Convoy so may the force be with you with finding parking on a weekend night. I always prefer going on weekdays after lunch rush because 1) no wait, you just walk right in! 2) happy hour & crab poppers 3) not a lot of people to judge me when I get down and dirty in stuffing my face with shrimps Overall: DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS, DELICIOUS.

Who need’s damn gloves? If you are going to do something, just go all out already! I’m one of those guys who eats fruit that is already ready to eat, such as an apple or pear. I’m not a fan of peeling oranges or heaven forbid I have to take apart a pomegranate! Okay, so I can and will peel a banana and eat it! I’m not that lazy! I’m here at Crab Hut staring at a bag of deliciously boiled shrimp medium spiced with corn and garlic butter. Guess what I’m going to have a problem doing? Peeling shrimp! I am by no means a expert, that’s for sure! Took me what seemed like hours upon hours to peel shrimp. Totally worth it though! Came with my wife and my Unilocal foodie friend Beverly H. and decided that next time I’m coming for the crab legs! Had a bite of crab and it was super delicious! Had a piece of corn bread that I killed as well. The staff was amazing and willing to talk seafood with us, until we figured out what we wanted and how much we wanted. I’m not smart on seafood, so it’s great that someone can help me order something that I will actually enjoy!

Grab a bib and prepare to get your hands dirty! The food was well worth the wait the inviting smells wafting outside was a continuous reminder of the deliciousness that awaited inside. The atmosphere is relaxed and servers were very attentive. Had a blast enjoying my ½ medium spiced crab, shrimp, prawns and sausage with my fellow Unilocal foodie friends. Dinner is always fun when you get to use your hands and get dirty especially when you have great company.

We came thru here yesterday bc we were both in a «crabby mood»(see what I did there??). We decided to pick it up and eat it at my place, I mean… it was really the most perfect plan, especially bc they provide you with everything you need(if you’re one of the people that needs absolutely everything– just ask when you’re picking up your order, and they’ll provide it). We each decided to go for the Snow Crab Legs with Old Bay seasoning and mild spice. They were amazing! So good… that I think I may be back later in the week to indulge again! Crab Hut never fails in the crab department… I’m always left feeling satisfied!

Came here for dinner with a group of 9. We had an amazing time! We tried so many items and I was impressed with everything we ordered. I was happy that they served Abita Purple Haze beer on draft! YAHOO!!! –Oysters on the half shell: Fresh and definitely not grimy. Legit!!! –Fried Oysters: So good with lime!!! -«Hut» Wings: Love the crunch and flavor. –Seafood Bucket with Medium Full House Sauce: Next time would need to go down in the spice level. WHEW! I was sweating!!! This was enough for my husband and I although we were struggling to finish our big bag!!! Lots of goodie seafood in here. You can probably share this bag between 3 people. The staff and service was impeccable. They came around often and they were all super friendly. You are offered gloves and bibs so use them wisely!!! Limes are offered for your meal and to also clean your hands post grub. Such a fun place to hang out. The only downfall is the parking lot. Do yourself a favor and if you decide to come on a weekend or busy night, Über or Lyft it!

I am a seafood fanatic and Crab Hut really satisfies my craving. I’m a really big fan of their full house sauce. It’s sweet and not ridiculously spicy like at other similar restaurants. Whenever I go, I always get a pound of shrimp, full house, ½ medium. I promise it’s a very nice balance of flavor. The only complaint I have is that the sauce a little too watery sometimes. But overall, it is still really good with salt pepper and lime. For appetizers I always get the calamari and fries. Their fries are criss cut, which are my personal favorite. Dip the calamari and fries in a combination of ranch and ketchup and it’s delicious. I know it’s a weird combination but give it a try and you’ll never go back! Overall, Crab Hut gets the job done and I will continue to come here if I’m in the mood for some tasty shrimp.

Crab Hut is my favorite place in all of SD to eat. PERIOD! I’m so in love with their savory, juicy, succulent… shrimp! I could go on and on about my live for this place. Basically, if I owned a Prius, I would get gas and head towards SD just to go to Crab Hut. I love everything here especially the jambalaya PLEASE make sure you get it with rice instead of the pasta! Service is always great and the food always comes out so fast. Please order a pound of shrimp in my honor! Until I return, enjoy!

I came here to have a super late lunch with the wifey about 2 weeks ago. It’s been a while since I’ve been here. We had an idea of what we wanted, so once our server returned with our drinks we placed our order. We ended up ordering the«Seafood Bucket»(which comes with): king crab leg, snow crab, shrimp, crawfish, mussels, clams, potatoes, corn on the cob and Sausages. For the sauce, we decided on lemon pepper and cajun sensation at ½ medium spice level. We devoured a huge portion of our«bucket»(they serve the food in these thicker plastic bags, not buckets) before I remembered to take my customary Unilocal pictures. The assortment of seafood, corn, sausage, and flavoring was delicious! The spice level was just right for me(the wifey wanted it hotter). Service was good, our server was friendly and attentive. When our server disappeared for a while(maybe went on break), another server checked on us a few times. For the price, I’d expect a little more food, but that is not why I can’t give this place 5 stars. The main reason I can’t give this place 5 stars is because the parking at this shopping plaza is horrendous! That’s probably the main reason I don’t frequent many of the restaurants in this plaza. So while I am a fan, I’d probably only hit this place(and plaza) up during off peak hours.
