Haha down the best sandwiches in San Diego. The AL’s famous on sour dough is so yummy! I work 40 minutes away but this is always my top choice for lunch.

The best tuna sandwich I’ve ever had. Was staying with a friend for 5 days, came here 3 times. Their breakfast is also really good and reasonably priced.

Amazing Deli, friendly service and fantastic food. My go to is the Al’s special toasted on a french roll with avocado, bacon, turkey and a bit of italian dressing. , The «rachel» is amazing with hot pastrami with a great combination of pickled cole slaw. I also enjoy the buffalo chicken sandwich with crumbled blue cheese with a tangy buffalo sauce.
If you are around this area, would definitely recommend stopping by. The use quality ingredients and their sandwiches never disappoint. The owners are the nicest, always a pleasant demeanor and provides a comfortable environment,

Their pickle is the best, my boyfriend likes chicken bacon ranch and I like devil egg. To be fair, tuna sandwich is not so good, but avocado sandwich is good.

I love Test Kitchen Thursday sandwiches. The ingredients are fresh and the selection is always creative and tasty.

Aweaome place for breakfast or lunch. I was very impressed with the friendliest people at the deli during my visit. I had the breakfast burrito and it was super delicious. They had a sauce that swirled all the ingredients together in my mouth, and all the fixings were perfectly proportioned. I watched the older gentleman make the burrito, any used gloves and did it as cleanly as I’ve ever seen anybody do it. This is a great little deli.

Great sandwiches at an unexpected location. Situated within the La Jolla crossroads apartment complex, this is my go to place for delicatessen sandwiches. The bread is freshly made, meat is freshly sliced, and the sandwiches are prepared with love at this family owned business. My favorite is the chicken supreme with Al’s sauce and falafel on Fridays is pretty good. I visit there once in two weeks and I don’t eat many sandwiches so that says a lot. Also, the meat is thick and your protein requirements will be met.

The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich special was excellent.

I don’t understand how this place has 4 ½ stars when it should be a solid 3 given the steep prices and slow service.
I tried the Meatball Marinara, and it tasted on par with Subway’s $ 5.00 version. However, I paid close to $ 10.00. Other subs I’ve tried are slightly better, but definitely not worth the price.
I would say service is good, but I had an unfortunate experience where there was a woman working the cashier who was very slow and kept forgetting to ring up the items I had chosen to buy (chips, beverages). I was in bit of a rush, so it was annoying to have to spend 5 minutes paying for something that should’ve only taken 1 minute.
Other than that, the selection for snacks and drinks is large. It is a decent place to stop by if you live in the complex or surrounding area.
Minimal parking, busy during lunch hours due to the influx of people on their lunch break.

Prelims: located in the middle of an apartment complex (called La Jolla Crossroads — go figure), it’s a small mom and pop deli seemingly dropped out of the city of New York. With the bright red seats, the random and yet fascinating variations of soda (they got all the oldies and goodies and interesting ones you’ve never seen before), and specials every day of the week, I love this place. There aren’t too many seats inside (maybe 15?) but there are plenty more outside and I would say that majority of the people are quick to drop by and grab and go. Atmosphere is very friendly, as the owners are a mom and a pop that make the food fresh, and tons of people come through here, so maybe come early. Also — no parking anywhere.
I always get the falafels on Friday — because their special is Falafel Friday. I walk over from work and I order the falafel. And then I eat. I try to take measured bites but more often I end up smashing the deliciousness of the falafel all into my mouth and keep the flavor going for as long as possible. Disgusting — I know. But I don’t care what you think. The falafel is that good. Vegetarian, yet meaty with pickles, pickled onions, lettuce, tzatziki sauce all wrapped up in a deliciously soft pita bread, this is the one dish that I don’t mind going vegetarian for. It’s. so. good. If you got the time and the craving, head on over on Friday because they only make this delicious heresy of meatlessness on Friday and the mom told us she makes them all by hand. Because that’s how awesomeness is created. There are no pictures — because I’m too busy eating before I realize that i should take a pic. every time.
TL;DR Damn good falafel. For a carnivore.

This place is phenomenal! It’s tucked away like the hidden gem it is, but it does have a small yet decently sized dining area. I received one of the best almond milk cappuccinos I’ve ever had here, and this is coming from a coffee snob/​former barista. I also ordered a delicious breakfast burrito that was only $ 4.50! Insanely good and insanely cheap.

An AMAZING Sandwich and Deli tucked away in a little corner. It’s definitely on the «lunch rotation» short list. It’s a family owned and run GEM with the a local celebrity twist!!!
The «Al» club is thebombdotcom and its namesake Mr. Al is great to deal with.
If you’re near the area you’d be doing yourself a favor by stopping here than the mall or any of the big business sandwich spots!

The Rachel (Pastrami Coleslaw sandwich) was amazing. Who would’ve thought a deli in an apartment complex can serve such a scrumptious sandwich.

Crossroads Deli is truly amazing. Al and Nelly are the nicest people and know how to make their customers happy. I got the Al’s Famous Club. It was loaded with bacon and built to perfection. I can’t wait to go back and try all the other sandwiches.

This is my new favorite sandwich shop! The Rachel, Chicken Supreme, and club sandwich are my 3 go to sandwiches (yes in that order). The best part it’s family owned and operated and they have to be some of the nicest people I have ever met!

I went in for a quick bite and left hungry. The older man behind the counter was super rude. I have food allergies so asked about the menu and I guess he didn’t like that. Too bad I’ll never try the food there with that type of service.

Ate lunch here — it was awesome! Al is here to make sure your hunger needs are satisfied. If you are looking for a sandwich in La Jolla come here! They also have daily specials

Sandwiches are good, I really like their Al’s special and Tuna sandwich. It’s a bit expensive but they put a lot of meat and veggies so it’s worth it. Lunch time is usually busy so I would call in my order instead of waiting for it… Guest parking is a hit or missed.

Got the turkey sandwich on an onion roll and it was pretty good. Wasn’t really crowded and the sandwich took a bit of time to come out, but not absurdly long. I’ll be back here for another sandwich eventually.

This is my go-​to for sandwiches. It’s a bit hard to find and parking can sometimes be a pain, but it’s worth it. I’ve tried many other delis and sandwich shops in Sorrento Valley and around UTC, but none of them are as good as Crossroads. Al and Nelly are fantastic and they always greet me warmly. Highly recommended.

Crossroads Deli is a hidden sandwich shop in the La Jolla Crossroads Apartment Complex. If it weren’t for Unilocal,we would have never known or found this place.
Crossroads Deli has fresh sandwiches (create your own, daily specials, specialty sandwiches) as well as soups and salads.
I opted for a create your own sandwich with ham, cheese, and avocado. Significant other opted for the reuben (hot corned beef, swiss cheese, dijon mustard, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing on rye bread). YUM!
Service is amazing. Support small businesses. ENJOY!

There is no shortage of deli’s in the UTC area. Most of which are decent but nothing to really get excited about. I’ve driven by Crossroads hundreds of times but never stopped or thought about it during my lunch break. Today I decided to try yet another deli in UTC and this time I was overly impressed.
I had, what can only be described as, one of the best deli sandwiches I’ve ever tasted. Great bread (multi grain), fresh ingredients, and superior service. With only one visit, Crossroads Deli is now in top 5 favorite places for lunch by my office. They have just earned another regular patron.

What a great little find. I love a place where the staff and owners really care about your experience. I just have the Reuben sandwich and substituted pepper jack for Swiss and the sandwich came out impeccable. I sure wish I worked around this area more often as I would totally be a regular

I stopped in and got the Veggie Breakfast Burrito. Absolutely delicious! Also ordered a baklava to go. Owners were very friendly. Would highly recommend.
Note: Wasn’t sure where to park. I may have missed the lot — but I was just running in so parked illegally. You may want to call and find out before you go.

Wow, I do not have enough good things to say about this place. Every time i go i get the Al’s Famous club on squaw bread. I eat here just about every week, sometimes even twice a week. Everyone that works there is super friendly!
Only downside is the parking situation, but i always just call ahead, park in an illegal area, cross my fingers, and run.

An incredible deli and lovely staff!
They make consistently delicious food. My favorite sandwiches are the avocado and cheese and the tuna supreme. My boyfriend loves the Rachel, most people do.
They also have great coffee– my favorite is the Mexican mocha.
I especially love their meatball sandwich they have on Monday, as well as the falafel they have on Fridays. Every once and a while on Thursday they will have an amazing gyro.
Even if you don’t live at the crossroads, you should try a sandwich here.

Great place for a sandwich. I always order the Al’s Famous Club on squaw with no mayo. So I usually don’t like bacon but IT IS AMAZING HERE. Its like eating chicharrones in your sandwich. It elevates the sandwich with texture. I’m not sure what they put in their lettuce but its always moist and it keeps the sandwich from getting dry. The meat to bread ratio is on point and you can tell that he uses fresh ingredients. You can clearly see the thick layer of avocado. Hands down the best sandwich place I’ve been to so far.
I am sad I didn’t discover this place until my fourth year at UCSD.
This place is located within an apartment complex so there are guest parking spots in the garages nearby. The spots are super duper small though so that can be annoying.

«Oh, we’re going to a sandwich shop. Really! Just trust me…» I was very skeptical, but my friend was right and I should have trusted him. Despite all appearances to the contrary, there really is a sandwich shop on the first floor of this apartment building.
Their sandwiches are great. Lots of nice meats and cheeses, and limited but fresh vegetables. I really appreciate that their vegetarian option includes avocado. Just cheese can make for a sad sandwich, and price-​wise I get a little miffed when I have to pay as much as meat sandwich. Plus avocado is just delicious.
They also have nice additions like bottled drinks, chips, and desserts. Hurrah for ice cream! There’s nice, shaded seating out front.
My only wish is that they had nicer bread. Their sliced breads are just from typical grocery store loaves. All of their other ingredients are so great, I wish that they had upscale bread to match.

I went here for late lunch yesterday & ordered the egg salad sandwich! it was SoOOO DeLiSH! if you’re looking for the best egg salad sandwich this is the place to be! i couldn’t stop eating so i finished the whole 2 big portions of the sandwich! that is how good it was!
Today my husband asked me to get coffee from BiG AL (the owner-​who makes the sandwiches) and i decided to also try another sandwich which is the chicken & bacon and it was VeRY TASTY too! i ordered it in my favorite squaw bread with all the awesomely fresh veggies with bacon & chicken inside!

Awesome, family owned little deli. Well-​made sandwichs that is filling and not expensive. I’ve gotten the al’s club sandwich and it was delicious — crispy bacon, avocado, Turkey, veggies, topped with al’s secret sauce.
Tip: it’s located within the LA Jolla crossroads complex where parking is limited. You could find street parking or go to villas of renaissance guest parking around the corner and walk for 3 mins to crossroads deli.

The sandwiches are delicious. They use quality ingredients, and service is great.
The downside is the location and parking limitation.

This place is a bit hard to find since it is next to apartments and the parking if the guest parking for them. Seemed like there were a lot of regulars eating at this place since the workers knew a lot of them. Created a homey vibe, which was nice to go along with how clean the dining area was.
Ordered AL’S CLUB SPECIAL ($ 7.50) — Ovengold Turkey Breast, avocado, Swiss cheese, crispy bacon, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion and Al’s Italian dressing on your choice of bread. Might have found my new favorite sandwich joint. Stacks on Stacks on Stacks of Turkey! Bacon was a plus, since it was really crispy. It definitely was enough food but not too much. I would recommend getting it on a French Onion Roll, since the cashier recommended it and I was not disappointed.
To go with the sandwich I ordered MOM’S GROUND BEEF & BEAN CHILI — 12oz ($ 4.75) — Lot of flavor in the Chili and it went well with the French Onion Roll. Will try the soup of the day next time.

One of the highest rated delis in the UTC area.
Crossroads is within walking distance of my work so I make the trek every once in a while. Sandwiches are indeed good, and there is plenty of other unique items in the refrigerated cases that make the walking trip worth it. A bit peculiar is the location, it’s embedded in a behemoth apartment city.
Falafel Sandwich (Friday Only).
I’ve never really liked Falafel, but decided to try it out seeing the great reviews. The sandwich is built like a gyro wrap but with more flavor (Be sure to use a toothbrush afterwards). I think the cucumber-​tomato tahini sauce was key, but a bit too heavy handed as far as the amount for my taste. The Falafel was the best I’ve had. This is a sandwich worth trying, I enjoyed it.

Be aware that there isn’t a lot of available parking (best legal parking in the guest spaces inside the complex). There are a lot of red no parking areas and there are predatory tow trucks always in this area looking for people that illeagaliy park.
