Daniel Michaels, MD

I have been seeing Dr Michaels since 2000 and love him. He’s quiet, not bodacious but definitely knows his stuff. He truly cares. Calls personally to follow up. My son’s asthma was out of control and we were seeing a specialist at Children’s Hospital. Finally I asked Dr Michaels to examine him. He got it under control.
Jane is also excellent. Dr Dembo is very nice but I like Michaels. I highly recommend. Our entire family goes there.

I find Dr. Michaels as good as anyone out in medical practice. with all the regulations put upon everyone, it’s a wonder how anyone stays in practice. you have to love helping people with a medical issue or just passing on great medical advice. Yes, I do thanks him for the advice he has given me

I certainly never imagined posting about medical services, but due a series of poor judgement on the Dr. office and crew, I decided I should pass on the info.
We chose Dr. Michael’s for pure conveniency and he was on our insurance list of «Pediatricians». So, I can’t speak of him as a family doctor, but as a Pediatrician, I WOULD NOT recommend him or his team. Poor judgment and lack of experience led our child to be hospitalized, and poked a lot more she should have as an infant. And we are talking about a perfectly healthy child here. In addition to errors due to a machine mal function (where clinically they should have been able to determine that it was an error!.. once again lack of expertise) which led to more hospital visits. In addition to skipping a few vaccines that seem critical to a child before their 1^st BD, w/​out notifying the parents.
Bottom line, I wish I was able to warned or read something like this before putting my child’s life in their hands.

Dr Michaels has been my family doctor for about 17 yrs. I have no complaints — he and his practice has looked after me, my wife and all my children on and off in that time. I hope he and the practice continues to flourish. Dr Dembo has also been most kind.
Scheduling and seeing patients can sometimes be tricky and one has to be understanding — there may be others whose need is sometime greater, but I have never found him nor his staff to be unreasonable, nor lacking in compassion and understanding and helpfulness (if that is a word) when we needed help.

So I usually don’t post very often on Unilocal but my experience at the La Jolla Village Family Medical Group was hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had at a doctor’s office.
I went in earlier today to see Dr. Daniel Michaels for a physical as well as to see what was wrong with me, as the night before I had been vomiting all night long. I thought I must have gotten food poisoning.
So let’s start from the beginning. I walk into the office and stood at the front desk for 5 minutes until actually being acknowledged by the two receptionists (who by the way saw me and made eye contact with me when I walked in). Already I thought to myself how rude was that. Then i was instructed to fill out paper work and wait to be seen. I showed up 5 min till my appointment at 1:30pm and wasn’t called until almost 2:00pm.
The nurse was young, had no social skills, and seemed very unsure about what he was doing.
Then when I’m finally seen by Dr. Daniel Michaels, he initially came across very unfriendly and welcoming. He barely shook my hand to say hi and throughout the entire time being diagnosed, he hardly made eye contact with me let alone showed a smile. Ok so I think to myself… clearly this entire office has horrible social skills but hopefully this quack can make up for it in knowledge. The entire time as i’m describing my symptoms. all he was doing was typing away on his laptop (clearly he needs a purchased program to make a diagnosis). Then what really took me back was that he told me he was frustrated which how many issues and symptoms I had. «What the F*&#k?!» I thought to myself. This doctor is complaining that his patient has too many symptoms. On top of that, every time he diagnosed me with something… I’d ask «what is that?». (because not all of us are doctors and know every type of illness). And then he would have the audacity to tell me to «google» it.
To sum up my entire experience — The La Jolla Village group is by far the worst general practice I think one could go to. The staff and especially Dr. Daniel Michaels are incredibly rude and seems like they barely know what they are doing. I am switching doctors immediately and fell bad for anyone else who crosses paths with that quack and his practice.

I just started going to Dr. Michaels (five months ago). He and his staff are fantastic and very knowledgeable. I bring my two young daughters here and am a patient myself. They always have immediate openings and are very patient with us. His waiting room is pleasant and the check up rooms have Melissa and Doug toys and current magazines:)

Dr. Michaels is a great family practice doctor. Me and my family have been going to him for years. The nurse practitioners at this location are very efficient and nice also.
