I tried getting in to Alanna again only to not get responses to phone calls, text messages and emails. I was so pleased with my hair and terribly disappointed when the second attempt was so unprofessional.

I usually don’t trust many people with my hair. It was my first time in this salon so I was a little nervous. However, Deidra was amazing! She talked me through and explained every single cut she was making to help ease my worries. I walked into the salon with a long mess of hair and left with beautifully layered hair. Thank you Deidra!

Diedra is Always on target. I trust no-​one else but her. She knows what she’s doing. If I dont see her for a few months, my hair still looks great!

Beware. Went to Deidre in recent past for a cut and color. I was VERY specific about the style I wanted and described it in detail. What I got was too short, the complete opposite of what I wanted in the front, and a severe, unflattering cut when I asked for a soft, natural look. No fix for it until it grows out. I will never even return for a fix. Zero trust.
The color was good, but I later noticed the skin was dyed along and well outside my hairline. A sloppy and amateurish bit of work.
Zero complements on cut. Working with it best I can. She just does whatever she d**n well pleases.
There is another one star review that mirrors mine in many ways that is worth reading. (Cannot find it again)
Deidre does talk a big game, which a truly skilled stylist would not have to do because their work would reflect it.
How utterly disrespectful and dismissive. Just breathtaking.
Must rely heavily on Groupon to maintain clientele.

Alanna is amazing! She always does such a great job and makes sure I’m smiling when I walk out the door. Ive followed her from her last salon over here to Platinum and I’ll never let anyone else touch my hair again.

I went to get my haircut with Kourtney a couple of weeks ago and had a great experience. Quality cut and conditioning treatment for a small price. I came in today because I got that sudden impulse to get blunt bangs. I’ve tried to go for it in the past because I thought it would look good, but every hairstylist has talked me out of it. When I called, Deidra was very accommodating and got me in on the same day when she had a gap between clients. She gave me the hottest bangs in San Diego and they frame my face very well! For only $ 5 too. I will definitely be coming back.

A friend of mine referred me to Platinum Hair Design as we both are still in search of that perfect Hair Stylist! Kourtney exceeded my expectations. I’m guilty of putting off having my haircut because I dread the unknown. Even though I just get a trim to get the split end removed, if it’s not layered correctly, my curls just don’t fall in a flattering way. However, I walked away from my haircut and was so relieved to find my curls looking fantastic! She knew exactly how to cut and layer them so they had a natural bounce. Kourtney was very friendly and fun to chat with the entire time. I appreciate the extra tips she gave me and her fantastic customer service. I will definitely be a repeat customer!

Was referred by a friend who lives in the Rolando area and then found a Groupon. Courtney was and is a delight. I have been back now for a 2^nd visit and enjoy this location more each time a visit. It is just adorable inside, lovely space and Courtney and Deidra, the manager, are both great. I would recommend for a great haircut, nice experience and super value.

I went there for my first time because of my groupon, and Kourtney did my hair. She was so great! She has amazing customer service and she was very friendly to talk to. She got all the split ends out of my hair and she made my visit very comfortable. I would definitely recommend going there

Got a deep conditioning treatment and haircut with Courtney a few days ago. By the end, I was shocked by how amazing and healthy my hair looked. It was definitely one of the best haircuts I’ve gotten since moving to San Diego. Courtney is so sweet and extremely talented. Make an appointment with her next time you need your hair done… You won’t regret it :)

Deidra is too talented for her own good! How so? I went to her MONTHS ago, because I needed, basically, all of my hair cut off. Months later it has grown inches and still looks fantastic! I have yet to need to go back!
After suffering two horrid haircuts (one professionally, the other when I tried to rectify it), this is such a huge relief to know my hair looks fantastic everyday… with little to no styling!

Got a groupon for this place after seeing the great reviews and had a wonderful experience with Courtney! She really listened to what I wanted, gave me a wonderful haircut and provided easy tips to keep my hair healthy. Will definitely return for haircuts and color :)

Go to Liz! She cut my hair fairly short and I absolutely love it. She listened to me describe what I wanted and understood me perfectly. She talked to me the entire time and was also very nice and professional. I highly recommend her services! She’s great at what she does and very personable too. I will definitely be coming to Liz from now on :)

I truly struggled with my review. I rely on Unilocal like I rely on my right hand, so I wanted to be sure of how I felt before I wrote this. When I walked out of the salon I was on a «pamper high» — that wonderful feeling you have when you leave a salon and your hair is styled nicely and you feel so good because you took an hour out of your busy life to get yourself taken care of. Yeah, I’m a stay at home mom who doesn’t always get a chance to shower daily and hadn’t had a haircut in 11 months, I’d say I was on cloud 9. BUT, after 6 days of playing with my new style, I must say I’m less than impressed.
I had a Groupon, so I called to get an appointment. I received a text a bit later saying I’d have an appointment with Brien on Wednesday, but it didn’t say what time. After a few more texts we agreed that 1 pm would work for me since my sister would be able to watch my son. Unfortunately, Wednesday rolled around and my sister calls me to tell me she has the flu and had gone to the ER, so she couldn’t watch him. So I texted Brien, apologized for the inconvenience, and told him I couldn’t come till after my husband got home at 3. Fortunately he was available and very accommodating! I got there and Brien greeted me, asked what we were doing and got ready to get to work. I told him I wanted something low maintenance and that I was donating my hair, so I was prepared to lose 10″. He divided my hair like pigtails and had me hold each side. I was concerned about this method because the hair has to be in a rubber band, and when I’ve donated my hair before, they pulled my hair into a ponytail and cut just above the band, maximizing the amount donated and keeping it nicely bundled. He said he knew what he was doing, and cut the hair and put it under his scissor case. When he stepped from in front of the mirror so I could see how much he’d cut, I was disappointed, because there was about 2″ more hair than I expected still attached to my head! After getting the hair home (which by the way was difficult to bundle into a rubber band AFTER cutting it) and measuring it, I may not have enough to donate!!! He said my hair was very dry and was going to use this product on it that would really help it. Later, he said, «When you have some money, come back and get some of this stuff, it will really change the fuzziness, but it’s really expensive». I didn’t think anything of it, but when I told my husband about it, he said, «So this guy just assumed we’re poor, that’s rude!». Maybe it’s because I had a Groupon. Anyway, the conditioning treatment seemed like any other wash with shampoo and conditioner at any other salon, but it wasn’t until the next day that I realized how hard Brien massaged, because I woke up with a stiff neck, and was in pain all day. So he cut, and cut, and while I spent the whole time worried because the technique was different than any other I had experienced, I chastised myself for being critical of change, because he wasn’t even done yet. The cut came out pretty nicely. I was pleased when he was done and my hair looked so fantastic, he even offered me 50% off my next cut if I booked directly through him rather than through the salon, which of course is an enticing offer. Like I said before, I am a stay at home mom, I don’t have time to play with my hair for 30 minutes a day just to get it to sit in a way that looks good and is not in my eyes, so I had to (look away of you are a hair professional) trim my bangs some more. I wanted textured ends and showed him some pictures of what I liked, but the ends are still blunt. Overall, not terribly pleased with the experience, not pleased with the cut, probably not going to come back.

This is not a review on the service, but rather the professionalism of Mark Monteith who happens to work at Platinum Hair Design. I wrote a review earlier this year on my experience with the salon, only to have him message me calling me an «absolute moron». Once again, I am blown away by how unprofessional the stylists are here. Completely rude and unnecessary! People are going to write negative reviews on a business, deal with it! It happens and you can’t please everyone. I see that he also wrote a review (5 star btw), in response to another client who was simply giving her account of her experience. Maybe it would be better to just stay mum instead of getting defensive and contacting/​writing about people who leave less than favorable comments; it kind of makes you look bad.

I really have never written a Unilocal review but the time has come to spread the expertise and praise on Diedra’s talent at Platinum Hair Design.
She was so knowledgeable about cutting hair and in general all that came to taking care of my hair. I was impressed by the products she uses, the results, and how cute the salon is. I enjoyed coming in and immediately being helped with no need to talk to a receptionist.
I also was very impressed about little things that she did while cutting my hair since apparently my hair was cut shorter on one side!!!
Last But Definitely Not Least, She LISTENED. I said I want to keep the length and how I wanted the unhealthy ends out and she totally did just that.
I am SO VERY GLAD WITH THE RESULT! :)
She also was super professional and I learned that her experiences have come from working in renowned hair technological companies such as JOICO and another really famous company that starts with a D. can’t remember which. :/​And she uses Enjoy which seems good too. But, her saying she worked for Joico spoke Volumes! I love to use their stuff!!!
She also did not try to force me to buy any products but was very interested in explaining how important it is to use good products for your hair.
In fact, the first time we spoke on the phone personally she asked me what products I use and told me I needed to try to find a better line than Nexxus or whatever the heck I was using.
I was also really SO happy that she did what she could to find me a appointment that was soon. I can tell that people come to her because she really is good. :)))

Loved this place! I purchased a Groupon for a haircut and will probably make this my regular hair stylist shop. The place reminds me of a boutique and is very relaxing and stylish. I love the atmosphere. Kris did my hair. She listened exactly to what I wanted and gave advice also. She came in on Labor Day to give my friend and I a cut even though the shop itself was closed. Not to mention her cute dog kept us company!
I’m not sure what their regular pricing is outside of the groupon, but I would definitely recommend Kris and hope to make her my new stylist.

I rely on Unilocal like a best friend when it comes to reviews, but have only ever written ONE review. This is the second — I HAD to take the time to jot down my praise because my new haircut, this salon, and the owner/​hairdresser is/​are so RAD that it warrants pause to pay it forward with positive feedback.
I just left my appointment with Deidra… Seriously the best haircut I have had in a LONG time — and hands down the best cut I’ve had in San Diego. I moved from SF to SD almost 17 months ago now, and have struggled to find a local SD hairdresser that can master sassy, spunky short haircuts without losing femininity… UNTIL NOW. Usually I’m a little hesitant to use Groupon for haircuts, and I’m also a big supporter of small local businesses, so I know that the stylist takes a $ cut with deals like this. However, I was getting frustrated with my bad luck with stylists — so this time it was Groupon for the win!
Deidra knows her stuff. She is extremely professional and a knock-​out, phenomenal stylist. She really took the time to consult with me about what I wanted before getting started. I fumbled my way through a shotty explanation (at best) of my ideal cut/​style, and she was patient with me ;) Then she clarified things to make sure we were on the same page and added some suggestions from her seasoned experience. Deidra told me exactly what her step-​wise plan was before getting started — ladies with short hair know that this is MUCH appreciated since otherwise it can be too late to give/​get feedback sometimes during the cut! By the way, my wedding is in 11 days — so this upped the ante a bit in terms of importance of getting it «right»… and she was totally game.
Shampoo/​head massage = amazing, and not ‘wham bam’ fast. I even had a little zen moment.
Super fun to chat with, love her confidence, and she’s been in the business locally for years so has seen it all (but without the pretentious feel of someone who claims so). Felt like I was getting my haircut from a long time friend — which is of course less important than the cut itself, but an added bonus to the overall experience considering you’re sitting for an hour or so with a stranger running their hands through your hair. Just sayin’.
She’s a TEN. I’ll be back for sure — and I took several business cards for the people who I’m sure will be asking me who sculpted the amazing cut I’m now sporting :)

I purchased a Groupon for this place and made an appointment with Mark for a cut.
I deducted one star because he rescheduled my appointment twice (for good reason) but offered me a free deep conditioning treatment to make up for it.
Mark was very personable and friendly without being overbearing like a lot of stylists are. He did a great job on the cut, and I felt like he really knew what he was doing. My hair was badly damaged by another stylist that botched my brazilian blowout, so it’s a bit more difficult to make it look good.
I really appreciated that he took his time with the blowout, so my hair was super smooth and straight. He also offered me a discount on future cuts. I’m not sure if I will be back because the location is not convenient, but if you live or work near here definitely check him out.
