We offer auto detailing, auto body, windshield chip/​crack repair, leather/​vinyl repair, wheel repair, and headlight restoration. Choose from mobile service, free pick-​up/​delivery, or airport shuttle/​parking. Our technicians, Certified by the International Detailing Association, work on all makes, including «daily drivers», «mom-​taxis», luxury vehicles, and exotic/​antique cars.

Specialized detailing services: guaranteed deodorization, scratch and paint defect removal, polymer paint sealant and ceramic quartz coating application, New Vehicle Protection Packages, convertible top sealant, exterior plastic panel restoration.

Auto body service: repair & repainting of scrapes/​dings/​dents on bumpers, door panels, fenders, wheels. We use high-​quality body shop supplies and offer a lifetime paint warranty. Most repairs can be completed on-​site in less than a day for much less than a traditional body shop.

Cloudy/​yellowed headlights can be made crystal clear with lifetime warranty.

History

Established in 1989.

Detail in Progress began as a mobile detailing service run by Point Loma resident Prentice St. Clair. Built on providing service excellence to our customers, it grew mostly through customer referrals and business networking meetings. By offering the best value, we have established a reputation that has allowed us to continue offering excellent service – when’s the last time you heard of a detailing company that’s been around for 25 years? We will NOT be the lowest price, but we WILL provide the best results.

The company brought on several other services in the late 90s, allowing it to become your one-​stop source for all your automotive reconditioning needs.

Additionally, Prentice is a trainer and consultant in the automotive reconditioning industry, providing assistance to hundreds of other companies from around the country and world. Bottom line, your home-​town Point Loma detailer is a leading expert in the industry.

Meet the Business Owner

Prentice S.

Business Owner

Prentice St. Clair moved to Point Loma in 1989 to take a civilian position with the Department of the Navy. While working full-​time, he continued his avocation as an auto detailer. When the Navy job vanished during the government draw-​down of 1994, Prentice decided to pursue his passion of beautifying vehicles by starting Detail in Progress.

Prentice married Donna in 1992 and has three children, Clinton, Cindy, and Stacey, all of whom have or are currently attending Point Loma schools.

As an industry leader, Prentice has been an invited speaker at numerous trade conventions; has over 300 published articles in industry trade publications; is a Recognized Trainer and Certified Detailer through the International Detailing Association; and provides training and consulting for other detail businesses around the country and world.
