History

Established in 2005.

We started simple with in home dinner parties and have grown into a full service catering company. We are happy to accommodate the most intimate group while also meeting the needs of Corporate Functions and all inclusive Wedding Receptions.

Since launching Dinners by David Catering in 2005, we have catered epicurean events throughout San Diego County for as little as two people and for as many as groups of 1,000. Our clientele includes high-​profile customers as well as everyday folk planning backyard barbecues and intimate in-​home dinners.

Serving great tasting food, and plenty of it, paired with friendly service at a fair price, has proven to be a successful combination. Mix in a lot of hard work, great clientele and a bit of luck, Dinners by David Catering continues to grow bigger and better each year!

They just did a luncheon for us at our home for 20 people. I must say David and Leo were extremely professional and the food and presentation were excellent. Not one of our guests ever had to ask for anything (much appreciated) and they left the kitchen/​house as clean as when they arrived-​it was absolutely terrific service! The stuffed mushroom, coconut shrimp and tri-​tip were a wow, and everything was great! We are going to use them again and are going to recommend them to friends.

I should have posted this a very long time ago…
I hired David to cater a sit down dinner party for 12. He created a 5 course dinner menu beginning with 3 passed hors d’oeuvres. David and his team were absolutely fabulous! He not only listened and patiently worked with me on the menu (I and all of my guests are foodies), but he went far and above exceeding my expectations! He hit the nail on the head!
Not only was David’s team wonderful and professional, but they also did a fantastic clean up job! It is nice to wake up (especially after o e to many glasses of Vino) to a clean kitchen.
Thank you David, for doing such an extraordinary job attending to our guests and making us feel well taken care of!

David catered a dinner for 8 last Friday night that was incredible! From the ahi, to the pastor pork, to the main course and dessert, it was all delicious. I wish I has some pics to share but didn’t take any. Chef Christy and David were both very professional and very accommodating. If anyone asks who I’d recommend for catering these guys (gal) would be the first and only recommendation.

Absolutely incredible food and such personable people! David, you’re amazing! The little chicken pablano tostadas! The prosciutto wrapped prawns! And so much more. What a wonderful spread you presented for the family gathering to celebrate my Auntie Blu’s life. Truly wonderful and exactly what we needed. (and yes, I still want your recipe for the chicken pablano!)

Wow, gotta say these reviews are accurate. The tray passed apps were delicious. The service from Tiffany and Kerry was top notch. They were ever-​present yet invisible with their service touch. I was only attending a party they handled; they handled it! Hire them!

Wow! David was awesome and so easy to work with– celebrated with 50 guests and everything was excellent– guests were commenting about how great the food (colossal shrimp cocktail, tri tip sliders, chicken satay etc) and service were throughout the evening. Our bartender Kerry was outstanding– took great care of me– made a plate for me and kept track of my drink, lists, etc. as she saw I was busy talking with friends. Our server Leo was fantastic! He kept everything on track and was always willing to go the extra mile– volunteered to go to the store to get more ice for is! From arrival to exit they took care of it all! Got all the extra food packed away for me– house and kitchen were all tidied and guests were way impressed– as was I! I totally plan on using David to cater future events– big or small!

I have nothing but amazing things to say about David and his wonderful chef Cristy Bell. David did so much more then just cater our wedding, he practically helped coordinate it too! He always made himself available to help with just about everything, party rentals, bar recommendations, advice, and so much more! He was so friendly and down to earth making the whole things easy and fun. The food was so great at the tasting that we decided to use him for our rehearsal dinner and our wedding, and am I glad we did! Guests from the wedding are still calling and emailing asking about the dinner and where they can possibly taste anything as good again! My husband and I are in a similar predicament because we have been trying to think of an event we can host just to use Dinners by David again! He cares about what he does and I more than re comment using him for any catering needs!

David is the BEST! He catered both the rehearsal dinner that we hosted as well as the wedding. Smart move on our part! His food was amazing — fried chicken with chimichurri sauce was out of this world! His coleslaw and pulled pork pulled in for a close tie. He and his team were professional, friendly, helpful and made everything seem so effortless. They took a lot of pressure off of me at the end! I have worked with many caterers and event planners — no one compares to David and his team. I have never reviewed on Unilocal,but felt compelled to do so because he is that good! Looking forward to my next party with David in San Diego!

This catering company is amazing. I found them on Unilocal and I needed a small formal dinner party for my godmothers 80th birthday. David was extremely patient and beyond friendly. He came to her house 2 months prior and we planned the entire event together from the table set up to the food, bar and all the preparation needed. His company took care of absolutely everything and the event went perfect. His chef Christy made an incredible meal and the staff was beyond friendly even staying an extra hour because guests ended up staying longer then expected. I can not recommend this company enough and will refer them to everyone I know.

David and his team are awesome. We were caught last minute with the need to host a reception for a departing co-​worker. No problem. One call to David and everything was arranged. A few days later platters of outstanding appetizers and a congratulatory cake arrived right on time. Dinners by David is the real deal. Excellent staff, great food and promises delivered. I highly recommend their service. BTW, be sure to get the Jumbo Shrimp!

David catered my company’s open house event for about 300 people and did an outstanding job. It was buffet style with different food stations throughout our office. He served tri-​tip sliders with cilantro and chipotle mayo, cheese enchiladas, chicken satay, ahi poke on a crisp wonton cracker, and a giant taco station with pork, chicken and beef. All of the food was fantastic and actually warm. That’s the key, it was warm.

They have been a part of occasions including birthdays bashes, July 4th bbqs, as well as our recent thanksgiving gathering. Me and 5 of my close friends had the pleasure of experiencing an evening at home with David and Chef Kristie this past weekend. WOW! the entire experience was magnificent. The food and presentations were fantastic, the service was excellent and the entire experience was so much fun. Our evening began with appetizers — Chipotle Shrimp Tostadas with Carrot Escabeche, cilantro an avocado/​Moroccan Spiced Grilled Lamb Medallions. Yum!
The Red Wine Braised Beef Short Ribs with Wild Mushroom Risotto were the crowd favorites. I appreciate all the effort in making our evening special. (thanks for leaving my kitchen cleaner than what is was when you arrived!)
We highly recommend hiring these two. Dinners by David get a two thumbs up from the Sanchez-​Mata clan.

David of Dinners by David was recommended to us for our wedding by a close family friend. We had a party of about 60 people at my parents home and David came through on everything… food, rentals, staff, bartender, etc. If I could add another star or 10 to this review, I would. First off, David is a stand-​up guy and is very honest. Secondly, his food is AMAZING!!! His roasted vegetables are the best I have ever tasted. The appetizers down to the main course was perfect. I’m pretty sure that every one of our guests commented on how delicious all of the food was. His staff left my parents home in more clean than when they arrived. I am very picky and David was extremely patient, professional, and accommodating to each of our requests. David and his staff exceeded my expectations and we will certainly continue to use his services throughout the years whether for a small or large event.

If you’re looking for a 5 star caterer who goes above and beyond, David is the man for the job! Consistently provides high end gourmet food and fabulous service, and always with a smile. His staff are very professional and courteous. I would definitely recommend the nacho sushi and tri tip sliders… yum! Our guests still talk about the food and it really made the event. David and Kristi (his chef) do a wonderful job. They catered my 40th birthday, and people couldn’t get enough of the food. It was a surprise party, and I didn’t even to try one of the appetizers because it was gone before I arrived for my surprise (that’s what I get for being late for my own party I guess). I loved the food I had, and Kristi made this amazing birthday cake for me. My wife told her I really like peanut butter and chocolate together (who doesn’t, right?), and she came up with this awesome recipe that had just the right combination of the 2 flavors… I get hungry just thinking about it.
On top of the food being great, their service is excellent. David is a «we’ll make it happen» kind of guy, and they do. He takes responsibility for what goes well and what doesn’t, and he makes everything right.
I’d highly recommend him.
