Discount Gun Mart

We all know the general stereotype of gun salesman. I personally avoid gun shops and have avoided purchases strictly based on that stereotypical customer service. Today I reluctantly went into Discount Gun Mart and was greeted by a man named Oshin. He was helpful, knowledgable, personable and most of all patient. He went above and beyond my expectations and not only did I make a purchase primarily because of his approach, it has made me a loyal customer from today on. Congrats to Discount Gun Mart for having such a stand-​up employee and a great facility. Thanks again Oshin!!! Ask for him! Trust.

The parking lot there is small. I have a small car just big enough for my wheelchair and my car barely fit into a stall. I can’t review the inside of the store because I never got that far. I couldn’t get my Chai out of my car because there was a work truck & trailer blocking their disabled space. I parked in a regular spot so I could call inside to see if that truck was going to move or not, or if someone could come help me out.
When I called I was put right on hold. No problem. 4 minutes & 32 seconds later I hung up and drove away. What DGM needs to know is the disabled, especially Veterans like myself, will spend tons of dollars on stuff like this because it’s something we can STILL DO and enjoy just like everyone else. You just gotta let us in the Friggen door!!!
Won’t be back. Lots of other ranges close to me that have better disabled access.

This review is for oshin who helped me with buying a 1911. He was very friendly and gave me great do’s and don’ts advice, walked me through all the paperwork (I haven’t bought a gun in 3 years) and took his time with me even though they were very busy! (Sale was on) the shop is clean and very well stocked! Was a great experience for me so thanks to everyone cause only a good team can make it all go so well.

04÷18÷16 — It was good to speak with Jabie, the owner, after he reached out to me. He assured me that this was not standard protocol and he informed me as to how things should and shouldn’t be done. They will continue to receive my business.

First time at this store, we called around to get prices on the gun we were looking to get and discount gun mart had the best price! When we got there Oshin helped me thru the entire process. Being the my first purchase there is registration, background check and a fire arm safety test. All done with ease. Looking forward to picking it up after the waiting period. Following the purchase we decided to go into the range, we were able to rent a few guns and the safety gear right there… Oshin took care of everything making sure we knew the details and differences about the guns we chose. Great experience and service! Will be back for sure!

Time for target practice with friends, call it a bachelor party — because it was. Easy check in process and gun rental /​ammo purchase. Lanes clear with operational target carriers; help available. Small space with ear protection MANDATORY! The guy hammering out rounds from his 45 magnum in the lane next door was heart pounding and loud — even with protection in. Double up next time, in and over ear protection. Overall good time had by all. Been to a few other ranges before, prefer outdoor so 4 of 5.

I have only come here for the shooting range. With the occasional purchase of ammo, when I feel like paying for overpriced rounds. (when I didn’t bring enough)
I can’t really speak in their sales or knowledge of guns here, but when I have wandered around the store, prices seem more than other places I’ve gone to and purchased from. (Turners outdoorsman and the glock store)
The staff assisting with the range has been pretty friendly and helpful. I’ve had a piece on my glock break once and an older gentleman helped fix it, charging me only for the small part. He showed me some tips and was very helpful and kind.
As for the range, it’s hit or miss. Sometimes it’s real busy with a wait. Other times I’ve gone right in. Sometimes it’s very clean, others the range has had rounds all over the floor and blasted targets all over. Ehhhh a nightmare, and hassle having to clean up before you even start shooting. Unless you don’t mind stepping on empty casings and slipping here and there.
The targets are average (.69– $ 1.50) depending on the one you want. They charge for the lane, to rent a gun, eyes and ears, and for ammo. For those who don’t have anything. The prices are reasonable and it’s fun to do. There are 2 ranges, one for larger guns (rifles, etc) and one for handguns and shotguns. There is 8 lanes on one side and about the same on the other.
This place isn’t bad to put some lead down range, for the average shooter or being your first time this is a decent spot. They have everything you need to start and things to purchase as well. If you’re in the area and want to fire a gun for your first time, check it out. Just remember… Safety first!

AVOID THIS PLACE!!!
This place is run by incompetent fools. They will take your money but don’t ever think you will get a gun from them. They can’t do the paperwork correctly. The staff is rude and incompetent.
They messed up my purchase twice, yes I gave them a second chance and they still could not get things done correctly.
There are enough other gun shops in San Diego, this place should be put out of business.
If you do ignore my adivce and go in this place, if a person named Oshean comes to «help» you, run, don’t walk, to the door and leave.

I’ll have to agree with Domique D and Steven C. You will be completely ignored when you walk in. It seems as if you are not one of their buddies or regulars, you are more of an interruption to their work instead of the reason for it.

Oshean (ocean?) was a huge help and took a lot of time with my friend, a first time gun buyer. He went over every particular concerning styles, advantages/​disadvantages, maintenance, ect. It made her feel very comfortable with the purchase and with guns in general.
It feels good to take measures to protect yourself and your family!

We have been looking for a hand gun for a while now, and wanted to buy today. Showed up here and all the employees were either fumbling around with bottles of windex or in large groups talking to ONE customer. No one said high when we walked in. No one cared we were just standing there waiting to be helped. This place is so unprofessional. Their merchandise is laid out all stupid. There are too many other gun stores in SD to stand around in this place being ignored.

We walk in, no one says anything. We walk around, no one says a word. We stand by the case containing the pistol we’re interested in… i make eye contact with a guy sipping a big gulp, he looks away and ignores us. There are two other heavy set fellows talking about who knows what. After about 10 minutes of standing around we leave.
If you want to get ignored, come here.
If you’ve got 1k you’re willing to drop on a quality pistol. Head over to the Gun Range in Kearny Mesa because these guys do not want your business.

I’m going to update my review to three stars from one star based on the response I received to my request for a full refund of my annual membership after unceremoniously being «kicked out» of the shooting range my first time there. The owner of the store contacted me and asked what could he do to keep me as a customer, and I appreciate that. While my experience there still bothers me when I think about it, at least they extended an olive branch and they will be refunding my membership. Thank you for trying to make the best of a bad situation.

Birthday Shots!!! Hehe my boyfriend and I have been coming here for 2 years now and we love it. I came in today and heard that they are remodeling one of their rooms. Which honestly made me happy. Customer service is always great we were helped by a dark haired full figured gentleman who was pretty funny. Yep I hate how I always forget to check in here… i think I’d be a regular lol!

Came back to pick up my AR-​15 it turns out there was a miscommunication on the status of my rifle. I had purchased a rifle kit and not a complete rifle. Needles to say I was upset at first but a sales representative names oceans was able to assist me and make things right. Any LEOs or military members looking to purchase a firearm or accessories ask for oceans he goes out of his way to help our community out and is very knowledgeable on all firearms. They have earned my business for life!!!

I’ve been to this range a few times, and my experiences have been varied to say the least. They can get pretty crowded at peak times, so I’d recommend going about 2 hours before close. This seems to be a popular place for very large parties, which can really tie up the lanes. Once you get a lane, it is about mid tier quality wise, but it is great at getting the job done. I’ve never had a malfunction with the target control hardware. The price is it’s main selling point for me and at $ 12.00 an hour per lane, it is what you expect: clean, fuctional, and comfortable. The staff seems to be pretty knowledgeable, but they never seem enthusiastic to help, and you frequently feel like a burden. That being said, I wouldn’t do a PPT here, as I’ve seen the staff be fairly rude to customers looking for transfers.
Pros: Good range pricing, great location (for me), good functional lanes.
Cons: Usually crowded, customer service is lacking

They redid the shop a few years ago and expanded/​upgraded the gun ranges. They have a long range and a short range to separate the rifle and handgun shooters. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable from what I could tell and they had a good enough selection for me to take my sister shooting for her first time!

I really tried to like this place. I don’t have many expectations when it comes to gun ranges. I mean as long as the actual range is ventilated and theres a few light bulbs on I don’t need much else. However the older gentleman behind counter has made going in and out of the range such an unpleasant experience I have decided never to come back.
He moves slow. No problem. Doesn’t listen to what I’m saying. I’ll ask for four boxes of ammo and he’ll come back with 1. I have to ask again for 3 more boxes. Honestly I can tolerate this I’m super patient. What I cannot tolerate is his disrespect when I’m just trying to spend my money. He straight up loud sighs when I try to inform him I would like to purchase 3 small items and acts like I’m ruining his day. As I was leaving I could see he was trying to rush out to his smoke break. That is some immature bullshit from an old guy.
If you get rid of that older guy I would definitely become a regular again.

Really having trouble deciding on how many stars to give this place. It was kind of a love/​hate experience.
Pros: rifle range, good air circulation, good customer service, nice «store» on site for the essentials.
Cons: No AC! Outdated equipment.
This would’ve been an awesome experience, but, like the santee location, they have no air conditioning in the ranges! It’s a pretty nice range but you wind up drenched with sweat and feeling nasty when you’re done. They also have really old and outdated target controls (?) and the touch screens are nasty and worn through.
If they fix the negatives all of the discount gun marts would be 5 star locations.
