Discount Tire Store – San Diego, CA

Just got new tires. Told them my tire sensor light was on and paid for it. First they said they will call me when it was done and they didn’t. When I picked it up they said it was all fixed. Well it wasn’t. The tire pressure monitor light still on. So they checked the monitors and one was bad. But they said everything was fixed. Do not take your vehicle here. They are bad. Hope my tires don’t fall off. Who knows if they even did that right since they didn’t even fix the tire monitor. I will never be coming here again.

Great customer service. Honored online price and I was in and out in 30 minutes. Victor was great and answered all my questions. Highly recommend for any tire related issues.

I had to bring my car in since I notice a nail/​screw in one of the rear tires. As soon as I got out of my car one of the technicians came up and asked me how he could help me, then he checked my car and said they could help me with the problem. I did not have an appointment so the wait was long (1.5 hours). It was a busy day, I went about 30 minutes after they open and it was already packed there were a lot of people already in the waiting room (it was during a El Niño storm.)
The waiting room is clean they have water bottles for your convenience, chairs and restrooms. They also have chairs outside if you prefer to check on your car while it is worked on.
The repair of the tire was at no cost since we had bought the «Replacement Certificate» I defiantly recommend it, it covers punctures :)
Overall everyone was friendly and easy to deal with. Once my car was done the technician that was working on my car pulled my car right up to the door so that I could just jump in without getting wet.

Great hassle free service, do recommend for good quality tires at decent prices. Took about 45 minutes and I was out the door keys in hand with new rubber to burn.

Great customer service that meets you at the door, very fast with all tire work, never had any problems at this location. Compared to another big SoCal tire company I recently experienced, you are not wasting your time by coming in a little earlier than your appointment. Faster than expected for all tire work. Love this place!

I hate giving one star reviews, but this is the last time I will be coming to this particular location. For starters, I own a corvette, its a corvette not a pasta rocket, not super expensive but still very gorgeous. One of my rear tires caught a screw and they refused to fix it citing the tread level was VERY CLOSE to the yellow on their tread depth gauge. This could have easily been a judgement call leaning towards the customer is right. They then promptly tried to sell me two rear tires at $ 500 a pc. Instead of arguing, I left and now I’m on Unilocal calling them on their non sense. I ended up getting it patched at a independent shop without the BS and the drama for only $ 20 without incident. This isn’t the first time something has gone awry with these guys. I have a Yukon and needed to get the wheels changed to a larger diameter and was quoted $ 90 for the mount and balance for the wheels onto the rims over the phone. When I got there, the story had changed. It went to $ 150, I had to argue with them for a hour and we finally settled on $ 100. I understand their business model and it makes sense. Refuse to repair/​patch anything and sell another tire with the labor involved, gotcha. Quote low and have them come in with the tires and wheels which is very labor intensive to get them there and when they show up, jack up the price. Whatchu gonna do foo? You already spent a load of time and your back getting them here and now what, you gonna leave? I’m hoping we’re a little more savvier than this with this consumer market. Watch your $$$ here folks, they’ll try to sell you ice even if you were a Eskimo!

Always great service when I come here. Just came in today for a a tire replacement because I ran over something on the freeway yesterday. It was covered by warranty; just had to pay a fee for disposal and what not. Service was done in less than 35 min!

I really do like these guys, especially Garrett because he truly does try to make things right, but sometimes too many mistakes, too often can leave leave a customer disgruntled — that I am.
As far as coming in getting air pressure checkd, rotating tires, balancing, etc… they do a fast, good job.
Last year, they broke a nut on my wheel and sent me to go get it fixed on them. Uhm, ok stuff happens but are you going to pay me for the two hours I spent driving there, waiting to be helped And waiting for repair? Because I surely had to take that time off work. So, yeah that will be about $ 64. They did give me two certs for the trouble so go ahead And deduct $ 22 out of that $ 64. Balance due $ 42.
over two weeks i had to take the car in 5 times. Last week we bought 4 new tires for my mom. The guys broke a sensor and said we reolaced the sensor, but it won’t scan etc. Let us know if the light comes on. Alright, I don’t got time to deal with this so, ok I’ll let you guys know, thanks.
Next day, light came on brought it in and the brand new tire was already losing air pressure. Ugggh. They put air in it and I got somewhere else to be… like work.
How is the tire losing air pressure already? Ugh. I come in the next day, we don’t know what’s wrong with it… blah, blah, blah. Well, find out! While it’s at Hyundai getting serviced they make me aware of the aftermarket sensor that was put on.
I called up Garrett and let him know that I wanted a new OEM sensor put back on. He agreed and I went over, they checked the air again and it had lost 3 lbs air pressure since leaving nc to Palm city. He had the guys take the tire off and check it under water … bam, bubbles! Who didnt screw the valve on all the way? Shouldn’t this be checked prior to putting on the new tires? These guys eating retard sandwiches at lunch over there??? Uggh. Sorry I know that’s mean but I was thoroughly frustrated! Garrett refunded the $ 36 we spent on tire certificates. Past due balance $ 6
He orders the sensor, and 5 days later I’m sitting here waiting for them to repair it, finally (they did notify me yesterday late afternoon that they were in, but Uhm I was working). But why not get it from the dealer the day I called? They were in stock, I checked. It was $ 33 at Dealer, Discount tires system said $ 66.
Anyway…
Garrett always tries to smooth it out and make it right, so I appreciate that. Also, they have been great on other occassions and that’s why I’m averaging all my experiences out to 3 stars.
Just frustrated I’ve spent about a total of 5 hours taking care of this. Balance due 1 million dollars ! :)

I came to Discount Tire to get some air in my tires. It is free of charge.
I had purchased tires before from them a long time ago but at a location in Chula Vista. This location is close to home. As I pull up, no one was in the first stall to get air, so I pulled right up and waited a few minutes. They were already busy.
The nice guy goes around all 4 tires and puts air in all of them. All were really low cause I can just eye ball it on my car. I can also tell that my gas goes down faster cause of my low tire pressure. Ladies, this is one of the important things to maintain on your car as well as those oil changes.
If I ever had to change a tire, I would probably go here since it is close to where I live. Location is right on Palm Avenue close to the 5 South exit. I highly recommend these guys unless you find a cheaper place to buy your tires.

I am so happy with their services. I was quoted a price for 4 new tires at a different discount tire place and Jose made it happen and gave me the price I was quoted. They are very professional and have great customer service. Thank you Jose. Discount tire is where I will get all of my tires from now on. I don’t feel like I overpayed at all and the service was quick.

Needed four new tires for my Jeep. I looked online and Discount had the best prices out the door. I was able to verify online that the tire I wanted was in stock and booked an appointment. I was in n out in a hour. Friendly staff and five star service!

Francisco was great. He got my bad tire replaced in a very short time and had me back on the road.
I will be recommending this store to friends.

I’ve been buying tires at Discount Tire for over 15 years and, although most shops are about the same, this so goes above and beyond for me each time.
For instance, they let me borrow a tire for a few weeks until I had enough money to pay for a tire, great rates on tires, fast service and friendly mechanics.
Yesterday I dropped off my key to my car and asked if I could drop my car off first thing in the am, before they opened, and have them take care of it. I normally wouldn’t do this but my kids don’t all fit in my car and I have had a screw in my tire for 2 weeks now. I really needed it fixed. I drove my car over to them at 5am, before they opened. And my car has already been fixed and waiting for me to go pick it up.
I’m glad I could get this done today and not have to wait until after 5p to get it done. Thanks guys!

Walked into a packed Discount Tire store on a hot hot day and lucky for us the AC was on full blast and the showroom was nice and cool! But that’s not the best of it; our service rep, Victor was super fast, helpful and honest. I felt like I was treated fairly and with respect (as sometimes that can be a challenge for a woman in a car/​tire shop…).
So thanks Victor. I got 4 new tires for my champagne lady for $ 100 each AND he even bought two of my existing tires back from me. Happy shopper!

I think you’ll find that Discount Tire, as a whole, has a very solid business model that focuses on doing pretty much whatever it takes to get business and keep it. There are exceptions (the poorly run Chula Vista store is an example of that, and quite sad since it used to be ACES, under Brett back in the day), but they’re all pretty strong. When I see negatives regarding DT, I wonder if the writer has ever been to regular tire shops or places like Pep Boys or Walmart for tires– Trust me, it can get bad. I actually buy 4 or 5 sets of tires a year, on top of normal tires for me and the wife’s vehicles, as part of my hobby of restoring cars. I live a few miles from this Palm Ave and I5 location, so it’s convenient to swing by on a moments notice. Garrett is a phenomenal and very knowledgeable tire guy, and a great leader as well– He runs this store well, and focuses on the customer. Every time I come here, I see a flurry of activity in a clean, well organized shop, and see a great deal of effort made to make people comfortable– Things like fully stocked free water bottles, plenty of current magazines and clean bathrooms are a Discount Tire trademark, but are always properly implemented here. Brett runs a top-​line store in San Marcos, but this is a real rising star in the world of car-​meats, and one that has earned my business.

This is a review for the specific location, not the company as a whole. I arrived at the location at 3:30 in the afternoon on a Tuesday. I came for a balance rotation and pressure check. I was told between 30 and 45 minutes. One hour later the vehicle went into the bay and 35 minutes it was in the bay. The technicians failed to use discount tire policy for refitting of the wheels, failure to use torque sticks during the initial tightening faze, single pass circular torquing and failure to check the pressure prior to trying to return the vehicle.
This location needs better management and clear retraining of its staff.

I made a huge mistake. I was avoiding one of those flower beds on the side of the street and hit the curb instead, during irreparable damage to my tire.
After a comedy of errors with the Progressive app to contact roadside assistance, I ended up here.
They weren’t extremely busy and they were extremely friendly. Someone took a look at the tire quickly and show me the gash that couldn’t be repaired. Mind, this is a 2 – 3 week old tire. Grrrrr.
He looked and couldn’t find the tire at their store. However, there were 4 at the Chula Vista store on Broadway. That’s service, when you don’t even mind sending a customer somewhere else to help them.

I have been to many Discount Tire stores over the years to buy tires and one of the many things that I love about them is that they fix flat tires for free (and match prices of their competitors).
I brought in my car to the Palm Avenue location the day after Thanksgiving to have a flat tire fixed. Being that I was there first thing in the morning, there weren’t a lot of people in the store so they got right to me. Thirty minutes later and I was back on the road again.
Thank you Discount Tire! You have a customer for life.
