If you are traveling to, or living in, Baja California Mexico, Discover Baja Travel Club is your new best friend! Having been in business for over 25 years, they are the definitive resource on everything Baja California. They also offer the best Mexican auto insurance available, which is REQUIRED for any travel in Mexico (despite what you might read or hear otherwise, you must be insured by a Mexican underwriter while traveling in Mexico).
My parents have been Discover Baja members since Hugh and Carol started the business 25 years ago. So when my wife and I were looking to move down to Baja a few years ago, and we needed to insure our cars in Mexico, we knew these were the most reliable, reputable and honest folks in the business. We haven’t been disappointed in choosing Discover Baja. We’ve insured three vehicles through Discover Baja, and my parents insure one vehicle plus their luxury RV/​motorhome. We’ve never had an issue with claims, and the folks in the office even speak Spanish and will get on the phone with local authorities and the insurance adjuster when accidents happen, just to ensure that everything goes well.
In my research, I also found that Discover Baja offers the most competitive pricing available (beware of other cut rate insurance brokers — not all Mexican insurance is the same, as some of our friends have found out the hard way). Best of all, are the people behind Discover Baja. It’s a family business, and their pride shows in every aspect. Carol, Hugh, Jen, Maythé and Monica are always smiling, and are never stumped by my many questions. Since Maythé is from Baja, and speaks fluent Spanish, she’ll get on the phone for me when I need to book a hotel, or just have a question– now that’s going above and beyond (thanks Maythé!).
Their office is located in a convenient location in a San Diego shopping center with plenty of parking, and is open 6 days a week. Carol has even kept the office open late for me when I can’t get there until after work. I’m pretty sure they have every book and map printed on Baja for sale in the office– I’ve spent hours just browsing them.
