Do It With Icing

This used to the go-​to place for all your cake, cupcake, cookie and candy making supplies, however, now their shelves are empty and have been for over a month. If you are looking for something specific, call before you head down to ensure they have it in stock. They are getting 1 star due to their shelves being empty, poor customer service and outrageous prices. I had to settle for something that would work, instead of getting what I wanted.

This use to be a great shop with lots of supplies. My last 2 trips it looks like they’re going out of business. The shelves are almost empty. The owners do t seem to care either. Very sad.

I thought why not spend $ 2 extra and support a local business instead of buying online. I even drove 10 miles to get it: service and store do no impress.
Biggest bummer: as I do not buy fondant everyday I thought I had a reasonable deal but: I got 2lbs containers of fondant for the price (+$ 2) of the price of 5lbs containers at almost every other place. Their fondant is 100% — 140% more expensive than most stores. I triple checked. Not good.

I hate to say it because there are so few of these places but this place is almost a waste of time. More than half the time the shelves are bare, or the most popular stuff is empty, at least. Need a 10 inch box? Sorry. They only order when they nearly run out of everything, I guess.

This store is so awesome, I just left right now with my daughter and I have to say I’m impressed. It was huge, had a lot of cute things to put on cakes and molds galore.
Cookie cutters a cake trays. I have nothing negative to say about this store, it’s awesome. I’m already planning my next trip!

I love this store and their classes. It’s fun and affordable. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly :) I will always bring my business to them.

This place has a great selection of anything cake or dessert. That’s the only reason I’m giving it 2 stars. I came in here the other day and was looking for some supplies. One guy had his back to me the entire time while he was on the computer. I found a lady in the back unpacking boxes and asked her for some help on making sure I purchased the right supplies. She told me that she just started working there and she would go get someone else to help me. So I waited about 5 min and she came back and told me the lady would be right out. 25 minutes later I’m still standing around confused and unsure. So I left. I thought it was pretty weird that nobody here was trying to help customers. I wasn’t comfortable supporting an establishment that provided poor customer service and figured sir google could help me more in finding what I need and purchasing it. Even if that was going to cost me more.

I loved the classes that I have taken at this store. The store has amazing tools for any cake decorator from beginner to advanced skills.

The customer service is bad, really bad.
the only good thing is that you can find everything that are you looking, from colors to printing

Compared to other, this store selling higher price.
they have plenty variety of baking needs but not complete.
If you dont find elsewhere, go there. Located between 99 ranch & arbys, its strategic.

I was very excited when I saw that there was a one stop stop shop for all of my cake supplies! I don’t know if I went on an off day, but they didn’t have a lot of the materials that I needed… okay, maybe they were waiting on shipments? Maybe they are not stocked yet? Either way, I saw spaces for it, so I found someone that worked there and asked her. I felt like I was annoying her, and she didn’t even bother to look! All she said was «nope, don’t have it». Okay, fine. So I go up to the register to pay for what I DID find, and that same lady was at the register with another associate, talking crap about the last customer they rang up. Didn’t even bother to acknowledge me except to tell me what my total was. I don’t think I’ll be visiting again any time soon. Too bad.

Hey Bakers, if you haven’t set foot at this shop yet then you are definitely missing out! They have a plethora of products for making cakes, candies, cake pops, macarons, cookies etc… the list is endless.
I love to bake and there is nothing that I don’t love about shopping here for all of my baked good supplies. This is my go-​to shop especially when I’m making cake pops. Parmount crystal flakes and Merckens melting wafers are my essential ingredients in making cake pops. Wilton’s from Michael’s doesn’t cut it.
They also offer baking classes which I’m dying to take but just haven’t had the time since I’m a new mom. But I’ve seen the class schedule and look forward to taking a class here some day soon!

So many selections for candy melts and variety of flavors! Great place to get baking goods

My mom and I attended the Cottage Foods Operations and Macaroons classes at Do It With Icing for a mom and daughter bonding day. The storefront is in the shopping plaza next to 99 Ranch and has ample parking. Upon walking in, my mom and I were greeted by a lady in the front and asked if we were there to attend a class. We signed in with her and she told us to go through the double brown doors in the back, which leads to the classrooms.
Cottage Foods Operations ($ 50 per person). This was a very informative class on the paperwork and requirements needed to sell baked goods from your home kitchen. The woman teaching the class owns her own business baking wedding cakes out of her home kitchen. She had great anecdotal information to support the information that was provided in the class.
Macaroons ($ 75 per person, all supplies included). My first attempt at macaroons was a few years ago and I was only trying to get rid of all the egg whites left over from making crème brûlée. Needless to say, that didn’t go well, but my mom was more than happy to eat my macaroon pancake afterwards. Now that macaroons are making a big comeback, my mom has been obsessed with trying to make them at home.
This class was pretty good — all of the attempts made by everyone were successful, so the recipe taught is a keeper (albeit a bit too sweet). I learned about the consistency needed for a french meringue and the almond flour batter. There was only one oven, so a lot of the time we were waiting around and asking questions. We learned that there is a 10% discount on all items in the store when you take a class, so my mom and I took advantage of that and purchased some gel colors, lustre powder, reusable piping bags, and almond flour.
Overall, the store itself is a glorified cake aisle from Michael’s, but has a lot more variety if you’re looking for cake specific decorations. The classes there are also very good, but they could definitely benefit from another oven for their baking classes to reduce the wait times. My mom and I had to leave our last batch since it was my cousin’s birthday and we were expecting the class to end around 4:30. If you’re into baking, I definitely recommend looking over their class list or taking a look at the shop for some inspiration.

Loved this place. As an amateur cake decorator I’ve noticed that there aren’t many cake supply stores in San Diego, and Michael’s is not cheap, not a big selection and over-​crowded. So finding this place was wonderful!
So many products, the prices are great, good for the budget, the service is really great, the 2 girls that were today at the counter are really nice and helpful, even when I spent about an hour just walking around the isles.
If you are a baker that is staring out, like me, or looking for a new supply place you should give this place a try, there is a very good chance you’ll love it

Really fun shop that has decorating and packaging needs for cakes and cupcakes and candies.
They were fair in their pricing for me and gave me a discount on some bulk items (200) that I purchased.
I’m very glad that this place exists because it had what I needed when all else failed.

I work at a business that sells cakes and I needed some supplies ASAP. My coworker recommended that I check this place out, so I googled the address and went on my way.
This place is located so obscurely. Seriously, if you don’t know what building you’re looking for, you will miss it.
The store is not glamorous at all, but it definitely has everything I could possibly need/​want. Cake boards, boxes, toys, candy melts — you name it, you’ll find it here! This place is seriously a gift to all cake/​dessert makers.

Given the limited number of independent cake decorating shops in San Diego, it’s hard not to like this place. It’s a cute shop with an extensive array of products that any amateur baker needs or wants.
If you’re on a budget or not pressed for time, I would recommend that you shop around for the best deals. The cookie cutters and candy making molds are competitively priced, but everything else might be a few dollars cheaper online.

Liz is amazing! This place everything you could ever want or need for almost all baking and making candy as well. If you have any kind of project that you need the employee’s here are extremely knowledgeable. I just love this place!

I used to only buy baking supplies online until I found this store. They have a wide selection of products with decent prices. Pans, boxes, decorations, ingredients, molds, cookie cutters, piping tips, cake stand rentals… everything! They are also one of the few (if not only?) places that sells Pastry Pride.
The people working here are knowledgeable, helpful and very friendly. The girl who handles their facebook is fairly quick to answer my questions on whether something is in stock. They also offer classes. I’ve never taken them, but have seen pictures of students’ works which look very nice.
It’s a little difficult to locate the store because their sign isn’t that big, but it’s in the business-​ish looking plaza next to Ranch 99. There’s also an audio store in the same plaza.
