Unfortunately, the salon has closed its doors due to a very large lease increase. They were only in business there for 5 years. :(
UPDATE: I’m still receiving marketing e-​mails (despite the fact I’ve now lived in Georgia for three years, haha) and just found out that stylist David Feiling has opened up his own salon in Hillcrest! Here are the deets:

I can not begin to explain how happy I was with what they did for me! I have been holding off on getting a haircut for way too long because so many people have messed up my hair or not done what I asked them to do. I looked on Unilocal and found this place a day before I was going to a wedding. I didn’t think there was any way I would get in but the amazing Kayla fit me in and even stayed 30 minutes late so it would come out perfect. I have extremely long hair and went in with it feeling like straw. I came out with a gorgeous cut (not too short), a beautiful new hair color and my hair feeling like silk. I will never ever go to anyone else but Kayla. You have to go see her! She is the biggest sweetheart ever! Thank you Kayla!

Fellow Unilocalers, I usually hate getting my hair cut. I know, as a woman, that may make me a traitor to my gender, that I don’t hold my breath until the next time I’m in the beauty parlor. But, having my hair cut fills me with nightmares of awkward, forced conversation, sustained criticism about the hair products I use (if they don’t cost minimum $ 50), and awful, 80’s feathered haircuts. True story.
So, like many other Double D reviewers, I found myself in need of a good mop trimmin’ and didn’t know where to go. I came across this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. So many great reviews, clever suggestive name, first timers discount — what did I have to lose?
I requested an appointment with DJ and she worked with my schedule to get me in within a week. The minute I walked through the door, I knew I was going to love it. The salon is small, but very cute. I like the contemporary style which, after chatting a while, DJ informed me the staff actually did themselves. The salon was very clean and comfortable. It has a very relaxed, unpretentious feel, which, by the end of my appointment, I realized is true for the staff as well.
DJ was everything the other Unilocalers said, and more! She’s very thorough — she spent a good 10 minutes examining my hair and asking me questions — how do I wear it? What do I do to style it? How did I get such gorgeous hair? (Okay, that last one is made up.) I have naturally wavy hair that I’m trying to grow out, so DJ promised a cut that would help my hair keep shape and stay cute as it grew out, and would work for letting it go wavy as well as those occasional days where I get off my lazy ass and straighten it.
And boy did DJ deliver! She didn’t cut too much off the back, knowing that I’m trying to grow it, but she added great layers and style throughout my hair. By the end of the cut it was wavy, then DJ straightened it, so we could make sure it would look good either way. I have never received so many compliments on my hair!
As for DJ, she was a delight. Not only is she obviously very talented, but she is a very interesting, engaging person. We talked forever, and it came very naturally. By the end of my appointment, I was tempted to ask if she wanted to be my new best friend.
I’m ecstatic I finally found a salon I’m going to stick with, and the days of dreading haircuts are over!

So glad I found a new place to call home for my tresses!
I moved to SD a little over two months ago from LA and have to find all new go-​to places. I spent a good hour or two researching places on Unilocal.I settled on the Double D because the reviews were outstanding, people said DJ asked questions about their hair type (which is SO important!!!) and the name just made me giggle. Who doesn’t love double entendres?
DJ was everything I wanted and more in a stylist. So easy to talk to, funny, got that dry sarcastic wit I love in people, etc etc! In five minutes I felt like I knew her 5 years. I felt so comfortable that I just let her do pretty much whatever she wanted with my hair. I got a cut and color and both turned out amazing. She put so much movement and life into the cut. It’s been over a week and the color is still pretty rocking, which NEVER happens.
I can’t say enough about DJ. Can’t wait to see her again!

I was very hesitant about getting my hair cut in San Diego — since I’ve had a lot of bad experiences. I usually wait until my trips back home to NY to get my hair done but I decided to Unilocal a new hair salon in San Diego. I decided to go with this salon because of the great reviews and high remarks. I can definitely see why this salon did so well.
I got my hair cut by DJ and told her the premise of what I wanted and allowed her to figure out the in betweens. She has an amazing eye for hair. I could not be any happier! I went in there with dull flat hair and left with amazing volume and shine. Plus they have an amazing deal going on for first time customers — 50% off! You can’t beat that deal! I am super excited about my new hair cut and can’t wait to show it off!

I was looking for a new salon, a place closer to home. I had been going to a place in downtown Chula Vista for about three years, but it was time to move on. I read some great reviews about Double D Salon on Unilocal.Plus, they offered a great Unilocal deal so I decided to give it a go.
I called DJ, and like she mentioned on the webpage, I got a call within 48 business hours. I was able to schedule an appointment within the week.
The salon is cozy, clean and modern.
I usually go to a hair appointment with pictures of hair styles that I like. I believe that the more info you give the stylist the less opportunity for a misunderstanding. The first thing DJ told me was that the hair styles I liked were for women with straight hair and that I have wavy hair.
Then she asked me something that I have never been asked before by a hairstylist. Have you ever had a hairstyle specifically to enhance your natural waves and curls? My answer of course was no. I have usually been given a carbon copy cut of the picture I brought in. Then it occurred to me that I have never been given true professional hair advice about what styles would suit my type of hair. Isn’t that why we go to professional hairstylists, for their expertise? I was impressed, excited and a little nervous all at the same time because I was going out of my comfort zone.
I could see DJ in the mirror cutting up a storm, but I wasn’t scared because I already trusted her expertise. She joked that my hairstyle was not at all like the picture I had shown her. Another great thing is that during the haircut she would ask me if she could cut a little more here or there. I said, GO FOR IT.
Well, when she was finished, my haircut was nothing that I would have ever imagined for myself AND I absolutely loved it. My friends all tell me how they love my new hairstyle. It’s so much easier to style and I get to show off my natural wavy hair.

The person my hair has sworn allegiance to is Isaac Roberts. If you want a serious cut from a man who has that magic touch, you must, must, must see him. I am pretty sure he is the reason my hair is as long and thick as it is today. He is also a good colorist and takes time to really gain a sense of what you are looking for out of your cut. He doesn’t believe in a rush job to get clients in and out of his seat. You will not want to leave his chair by the time he is done with you!
I have never had my hair styled or cut by Madison, but I can also attest to her skill and talent. She and Isaac have actually styled my entire family, and we are their number one fans.

Yikes this review is SO old! I took advantage of the 50% off «economy is awful» discount in July 2010 (looks like it is still going on! lucky you!). I was studying for the CA Bar Exam and life was so booooring. I don’t normally dye my hair, but I needed some change just to give my life some excitement from the constant studying. Also, I was growing my bangs out and they were at that point where I had to decide if I should re-​cut them into bangs or if I should grow them out.
Insert: the salon has its own parking lot!
I was seen by the owner, DJ, and she was awesome! She listened to how I was unsure about what to do with my hair and told me right away to grow out my bangs because bangs were so 2009 and the trend is to grow them out. She said I would love it and I totally have! Bangs were a pain and having to train them to fall in the right direction took a lot of work. She cut my hair in a way so that my bangs would grow out naturally without needing a lot of maintenance. She did a fantastic job, because believe it or not, I have not needed to get a hair cut since then! My hair is still really healthy and everything is growing out perfectly. Granted, it’s super long and I will probably get a hair cut in the next month lol.
Regarding my color, I was liking it but it had lightened up a ton naturally from being in the sun a lot when I lived in Hawaii. I didn’t want to get rid of the natural highlights, but it was just too light. So, she dyed the top ¹⁄₃ of my hair with a brown color that matched the darkest color of brown in my hair and then didn’t touch anything underneath. My hair looked really natural… it still had the natural highlights and yet was a darker shade that I thought suited my skin tone better. I haven’t done anything to it color-​wise since then and it’s just all growing out really naturally.
Best part? Everything was only $ 50 with the discount! What a deal! I’ll definitely be going back.

Great Staff, Madison and Issac are awesome! Issac is the best Hair Stylist around!
Besides that, place is clean, and has a private parking lot. I’m surprised people book online, Issac just calls me to set up appointments. Yeahhhh Buddy!

This review is a little late, but better than never– my husband came in and got the most AMAZING massages we’ve ever had from David.
I could feel my knots literally dissolving from his method of deep tissue — and I felt like I was floating afterwards. AND not to mention my husband got a very sexy haircut and my color was fabulous as well. Incredible price incredible service. we can’t wait to come back!

I can’t say enough good things about Double D Salon. After going to many, many trendy and upscale salons in San Diego for six years, I can say this is my favorite! The salon is cozy, clean and friendly; no techno music blaring, no intimidating staff.
I booked an appt with David, one of the co-​owners and right from the beginning I was happy! You can book an appointment with him online which is extremely convenient, and he called me back within hours to confirm. David listened to my requests about cut and color and gave me honest, intelligent suggestions. He was never pushy or dismissive and he really, really knows his stuff! Not only did he a do a fabulous job with my hair, but he also does eyebrows (among many things!)
I was so happy with my first cut and color I went back for a root touch up a few months later; this time I asked if he could tweak the color a bit. David listened and gave me the PERFECT color! I am so glad I finally found a salon that I feel completely comfortable in! I will definitely keep coming back to Double D :)

DJ, you styling goddess, I miss you! If you are lucky enough to live in America’s finest, DJ is your gal for a super modern and chic haircut. She is amazingly smart in so many ways with all of her life experiences. I only enjoyed the new digs for a few months before moving to South Florida.
Someday she will return to WA and SD will no longer be the finest. See you in Palm Beach, grrrrl.

I had my first appointment today and couldn’t be more pleased! It was awesome all round — the salon, the stylist and the price. I’ve tried many hair salons all over San Diego and the Double D definitely exceeds all of them. The salon is cozy and trendy. The prices were very reasonable. The stylist, DJ was exceptional. She was quick, friendly, honest, knowledgeable and did an amazing job coloring my hair.
I would definitely recommend this salon! I left satisfied that I hadn’t over paid for coloring that was barely noticeable which I have experienced at so many other salons (i.e. Dearinger).

Such a cozy little friendly salon AND spa! I haven’t tried spa services yet, but I’m looking forward to it. My friend referred me to Madison and she did a wonderful job on my hair color and cut and she is beautiful and sweet! I’m staying!

Oh and they put a little shelf pillow thing under your neck when they wash your hair, so it doesn’t hurt your neck when they wash your hair. That was extra cool. :-)

I just got back from my first appointment with DJ and she is amazing. Not only did she give me a great haircut that is better than any I have had in at least 5 years, she gave me tips on how to use product for my hair AND charged half price because I mentioned that I found her on Unilocal.
Couldn’t be happier to have found a stylist I trust and my new stylist!

You need to get your hair cut/​colored at the Double D Salon. A while back, I was looking for a new salon and stylist I really felt comfortale with and who did a great job on my hair. I found all of this with DJ at the Double D Salon.
I walked in and it was a great experience from the moment I entered the salon. There’s a great waiting area (though I didn’t wait long at all) and I was soon seen by DJ. She was fun and gave me a great haircut. I felt great, looked awesome and have kept on coming back ever since.
Since my first cut, I’ve had a lot of fun with my hair. I’ve done all sorts of colors, styles and cuts. DJ is so much for to work with. DJ always makes me (and my hair) look amazing! I can walk in and tell her what I’m feeling and together we decide what to do with my hair. I think I’ve done everything I could to my hair, except for extensions. ;) She does a great mohawk and colors it perfectly! Red, pink, blue, blue-​black… you get the picture. DJ is also a master at bleach.
My natural hair color is dark brown and getting it to an awesome shade of platinum blond is no easy feat. Many colorists/​salons might not take on that challenge. Not DJ. She’s changed my tresses from their deep natural brown to an amazing platinum blonde! It’s no short or easy task, and DJ is able to take my hair all the way to platinum and not have it look brassy, orange or any other nasty shade of «dark hair trying to be blonde». Granted, it’s a long process, but the color is amazing!
I would give DJ and the Double D Salon 10 stars if possible. It’s a fun, no-​attitude place with talented, personable stylists and reasonable prices. I’ve tried a lot of the other barber shops and salons in San Diego, nothing comes close to the Double D Salon experience. In addition to a great cut, color and style, they also carry some good products and offer waxing services.
Do you need to find a new stylist? Looking for a fresh take on your hair? Tired of attitude at other salons? By all means, head over to Double D Salon (and DJ) and treat yourself and your hair to an amazing experience. You’ll quickly make Double D your salon of choice!

As I was looking over my previous reviews of Double D, I realized that they were much too brief and sketchy to fully convey how much I absolutely adore this place. I can’t say how fortunate I am to have David F. take care of my hair in a beautiful and comfortable setting, for an extremely reasonable price, and within a 5 minute walk from my apartment. The best of all worlds, really.
I went to Double D today with my typical incomprehensible request:
«I’m starting a new job tomorrow, so I want something presentable and conservative, but not *too* conservative — something I can wear out and about as well — oh, and it has to be something I should be able to style at home with a modicum of success — and it has to be modern and cool — oh, and I have to like it.»
David F. just smiled at my nonsense and went about his business of cutting my hair. After a relaxing wash, cut, rinse, and style, I was left with a haircut that I couldn’t have been happier with. David is such a professional; he makes his job look so effortless. He cares about each and every one of his customers as if they’re family.
I used to think that customer service was dead, but it makes me happy knowing that the Double D’s are keeping superb quality and service alive and well.

Double D’s is hip while being quaint. David, one of the owners is not just San Diego County’s best hair stylist but an amazing Massage Therapist. He does facials, too, but I can’t say I’ve had the pleasure yet. Any way I can get his hands on me, I’m about it!
The other owner, DJ is super nice, knowledgeable and honest– a trait not all hair stylists can boast. The whole salon is brand new and gleams with bright, positive excitement that makes me feel like a celebrity while I’m sitting with my head under that portable dryer.
David does my color every five to six weeks. I trust him and wouldn’t go anywhere else!
