I had heard about the original Dudley’s Bakery out in Alpine/Julian and a good friend of mine shared that they had since expanded to have a couple of deli’s using their delicious bread. Had a weekend class near by and was pleasantly surprised to find this location on Clairemont Mesa. It’s near the DMV Court on the east side of Convoy/Balboa. Unfortunately, I didn’t take photos or make good notes for this review(which is a little dated from the time we stopped by). I do recall it being a pretty solid sandwich with yummy bread. Service was great. Hubster felt that it was a little pricey for what it was. but it was comparable to other sandwich joints. Loved that they carried loaves of their bread in store. Definitely would come back here to purchase sandwiches and bread. Hoping to try the OG location out in Alpine when I get a chance! Quick fresh sandwiches with friendly service. Would return and recommend.

One word: YUM! Okay, maybe more than one word. YUMYUMYUM. Coworkers had been talking about this little sandwich shop for a couple of weeks, so today, my boss and I headed over for lunch. I got a full TBA and was not disappointed even remotely. Packed to the brim with a generous amount of that delicious avocado and turkey, they didn’t skimp one bit. The bread was fresh and nicely toasted. The inside of the place is nothing to shout home about, but the food is great and the service was fast and friendly. They may want to work on more street-level advertising though, because they’re kind of tucked away in that shopping center. We almost walked right past the door!

Absolutely amazing sandwiches here!!! Got lunch here 7 days straight, went down the menu and ordered most of their specialties and they were all to die for. The people who work there are friendly as well. I’ll be recommending them to friends for sure.

I wondered if this place had any relation to Dudley’s Bakery in Santa Ysabel. Prior to checking out this gourmet sandwich Deli, I visited their Santa Ysabel shop for some bread, while heading home from their neighboring town, Julian. I asked their cashier if Dudley’s Deli in San Diego is related to this bakery, since they also have a deli in the front of the shop. I just so happened to speak to the Father of the owner of this deli. He shared his son’s story of how it all came about. It was great to hear the inside scoop of how it all got started. I finally visited this deli, to see what they have to offer. They have a list of sandwiches on the wall and combos of chips and a drink. I haven’t tried their combos yet. I only order their sandwiches. Each visit seemed to be quick and not too busy. Since my bank is a few doors or so down, the private parking lot tends to get packed with neighboring business patrons, especially during lunch. There is more parking behind the building. I try to go when it’s not too busy. Their sandwiches are thick and full of tasty ingredients. You can also order a half sandwich. I like their California Roast Beef sandwich. I love Dudley’s bread! It’s great that they incorporate their famous bread in their sandwiches. A sandwich isn’t a sandwich without good wholesome tasty bread! For those who are watching your diet, they also have light sandwiches and salads.

I blew it. 100%. It wasn’t until AFTER I opened my bag of jalapeño chips that I realized they allow you to substitute chips for a pickle or two cookies. Man, I’m such a goon. I completely understand if any of you guys hate me now, it’s warranted. About $ 9 gets you a sandwich combo(chips, pickle or cookies and a drink) piled high with the dead animal of your choosing, vegetables yanked fresh out of the planet and bread, that if it were any fresher, you’d be eating dough out of the baker’s hands. Its basically like having one of the best parts of a trip to Julian without having to drive an hour or deal with middle-aged women trying to gorge themselves on all things apple.

A good friend of mine was having a bad day and I know these fruit bars are her favorite, so I stopped in and picked up some for her. I want to say Raisin Ginger, something like that, she loves them. I ate one as well, it was soft and flavorful, but I don’t care too much for gingerbread(very picky, see other reviews…). The place was clean and the staff was friendly and smiling! I will be back to try a sandwich, their breads looked amazing.

They are a bakery first with amazing breads. Their sandwiches are fresh and mine had crispy bacon, avocado, and jalapeños. Great little place and much better than regular chain sandwich places.

First time here today and it was great! Mom & I went on a search for marble rye bread and we ended up at this Dudley’s shop. I am sad to say we did not find the bread there, but we did find great sandwiches. We both had half sandwich, Mom had a Pastrami Rubin and I had their Tuna Melt. Loaded, both of them loaded, I’m sure if they were whole sandwiches we would have been bringing home leftovers. I will be back soon.

For some reason, 2016 has been full of sandwich cravings for me. Luckily, Dudleys did not disappoint. I chose the build your own method and got the roast beef with rosemary olive oil bread. It was sooo good. I got the half for $ 4.95 and even though the portion size was good for lunch, I wanted another half every ingredient was super fresh and delicious.

I am completely obsessed with this place! The TBA is my favorite but you can’t go wrong with any sandwich. Evan and the staff are fabulous!!! They always greet me by name and know what I am going to order. They even make suggestions for new things I should try based on what they know I like(Tuna Melt, Tomato soup, Rosemary Bread). I feel at home at Dudley’s and am so happy to be able to go so often. You must make this a regular stop for lunch:)

Found this place after a friend mentioned it. Looked it up on Unilocal and instantly got hungry looking at the pictures. Had a custom made sandwich with pastrami. Really liked the bread and the ability to customize your sandwich to your liking. Pastrami wasn’t the greatest but definitely will try this place again. Nice little atmosphere as well.

Don’t leave teenagers in charge without management supervision. Saturday lunch time and only 2 inexperienced employees working. After placing our order and having to repeat ourselves a few times we pay and sit down. 20+ minutes later still no food. We ask and surprise surprise they have lost our ticket. Then the male employee comes outside to ask questions about my order. He is wearing gloves and touching things like the door. I follow him back in to find that he is going to make my sandwich with those same gloves on. I point out that he needs to change them and it’s as if this is completely foreign to him. Ok we’ve already waiter over 20 minutes and now that they are working on our ticket wait another 15 because they are placing new orders in front of ours. Decided we no longer wanted to eat there so we brought the sandwiches home. My bread was definitely stale but the best part was the giant wet spot right in the middle of the bread. Well I can definitely say we will NEVER be returning.

Ok, I have officially eaten here 3 times, so I feel that I can now write a worthy review. I have had the pleasure of enjoying both the TBA(turkey, bacon, avocado) and the California Roast Beef, and I can honestly say that they are both out of this world! I do feel that I liked the cal roast beef a tad better(minus the jalapeños). The jalapeño cheddar bread and garlic/cilantro mayo pull all the flavors together… a very tasty(and filling) sandwich! They now open at 7:00 for breakfast. I tried their breakfast special, $ 6.95 for a breakfast sandwich of choice and a coffee. I had the California with rosemary olive oil bread and no jalapeños…it was huge! I watched the guy make my sandwich to order: cooked 2 fresh eggs, toasted the bread and proceeded to construct this delicious masterpiece. I was very impressed and will definitely return for this breakfast special. 2 thumbs way up for Dudley’s! I was tempted to minus 1 star for their early closing hours(4:00pm), but I understand that this area is a ghost town after 5:00pm, so I won’t hold that against them :)

OMG. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this place. My girlfriend and I have been to Dudley’s Bakery in Julian but just recently found Dudley’s Deli! I wish I knew the name of the guy who helped us. He was very nice and generously gave us a brownie instead of the 2 cookies that came with our combo. I created my own sandwich and it came out amazing. They let you pick combinations of meat, any of their unique breads, and any condiments your little heart desires. I LOVE the garlic-cilantro mayo, as well as the garlic sauce. My girlfriend got the French dip, which she also loved. Definitely worth the money you pay here. I really hope that they open more Dudley’s Delis, as I believe this is the only one in the area. Until then, we will definitely make the drive down just for this place!!!

Great spot for lunch! Was on the hunt for something healthy-ish & close by for lunch & I came across this place on Unilocal. They have a large selection of sandwiches or you can build your own. I got the TBA(turkey, bacon, avocado) sandwich. My first impression was my sandwich was huge! It was LOADED with slices of turkey. It also had a hefty serving of slightly mashed avocado. Another plus was it wasn’t drowning in mayo & honey mustard. One con was it was lacking the B in TBA. I wish there was a couple more strips considering they didn’t go light on the turkey & avocado. Also, the sandwich was good, but not amazing. Overall, I was happy I had leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch & I didn’t feel guilty afterwards because it was pretty healthy. Highly recommend coming here for those around the area looking for a spot for lunch!

I tried the TBA(turkey bacon avocado). Great tasting sandwich, but pretty pricey. Definitely filling because they stack on the meat, a single layer of bacon that’s somewhat crispy, a solid slice of cheese, and a generous amount of avocado. The sandwich is lightly pressed in a panini grill to toast the bread to a nice texture but keep the sandwich tall(not squished down) which I appreciated. I do wish the cheese was able to melt in the sandwich but it was hardly affected by the amount of time the sandwich spent on the panini grill. Another thing I know to ask for next time is the honey mustard on the side… the sandwich maker smothered the honey mustard all over the bacon which took away the crispness of the bacon pretty quickly if you didn’t eat the sandwich fast enough. Those little things aside, the sandwich still tasted great. Although the TBA is a great sandwich, I still think paying over $ 9 for just a sandwich that doesn’t come with even a cookie or chips or a drink should only earn and average rating. At least give me a slice of a dill pickle!(Instead there’s actually a barrel of dill pickles in the shop that you can grab a whole dill pickle for $ 1.39/pickle.) With all that said, the sandwich was still good enough to earn a 4 star rating. Definitely going to come back here for lunch to try their other sandwiches. They also sell whole loaves of their bread in the deli in addition to select local grocers(such as Sprouts and Jimbos). So if you get a sandwich and the bread blows your mind, pick up a loaf! The jalepeno cheddar is awesome toasted!

I’ve been to Dudley’s in Santee with very good results Here, at this location, I had a pretty good pastrami and Swiss cheese sandwich on toasted rye bread. They call it a Reuben and you can get it with either pastrami or corned beef. The sandwich came warm throughout and the Swiss cheese was completely melted The pastrami was warm and had pretty good flavor, but it was a little dry for some reason. It came with a good amount of pastrami, but I just wish it were juicier. The Swiss cheese was good and so was the dressing the Thousand Island dressing. Also, I wish the sandwich came with pickles because that sourness would of balanced nicely with the pastrami and cheese. The Rye toast was very good. It was lightly toasted, provided a good toasted crunch, and tasted of mild caraway seeds and a quality rye flour. Service was pretty good. It was not as friendly as I think it should of been, but friendly enough. They make an array of sandwiches or you can build yourself. They are closed on Sundays and also make breakfast sandwiches and provide coffee.

I grew up going to the original Dudley’s bakery in Santa Ysabel and have always been a big fan of their morning pastries and delicious breads. I am happy to see Dudley’s has expanded their brand west to San Diego! Today, I came here for the first time. Great selection of sandwiches that one can order hot or cold. I ordered the California Roast Beef before I realized I had not read its description entirely. The friendly cashier smiled at me as I started making numerous changes to this sandwich. She tactfully suggested I could choose from the«Build your Own» part of the sandwich menu. Ah… a super suggestion! You can see my lovely roast beef on asiago olive bread. I was very pleased with my custom sandwich & the short time it took for the deli workers to make it! I will definitely be back. I’d like to try their salads & soup of the day.

This place is definitely up there for me when it comes to deli sandwiches! Being one of my 2 favorites in the area, their sandwiches are pretty packed and they put just the right amount of meat, toppings, and sauce. It’s a quick service restaurant with a decent amount of tables inside and outside. My favorite sandwich is the TBA(turkey, bacon, avocado)! It’s served on perfectly toasted wheat bread with a good amount of turkey, not-soggy-bacon(thank goodness), yummy avocado spread, and some mustard and mayo. Note that I don’t really remember if it comes with lettuce. I think it does, but I inhale it so quickly that other than the TBA, I don’t recognize what’s on it. Most sandwich places in this area are pretty pricey and I’m not sure why, but this includes my beloved TBA. $ 9 for a sandwich is pretty hefty without including any chips or drink. I’m lucky I can take some napkins for free! However, you do get what you pay for and I do like this place. Definitely will check out a different sandwich next time I go!

I’m a sandwich guy. I love sandwiches. One of my ex-girlfriends owned a sandwich shop. Not saying that’s why I dated her, but just giving you some background. I love sandwiches. Dudley’s is an excellent sandwich. Their portions are generous. The quality is high. Definitely try the California Roast Beef(my favorite!) or the Club. Italian and French Dip are worth a look as well. Obviously the bread is great, since Dudley’s is a well known bakery. But this deli is legit! Friendly service, too! Don’t really have a negative to say, except it’s not a cheap sandwich.

My manager’s had informed me that they carry a highly popular bread, in which they were amazed to find out that I’ve never heard of that brand of bread. So here I am now writing this review, after getting a sandwich from them for lunch today. Most of their sandwiches range from $ 6.95-$ 7.95 each. I chose to Build My Own Sandwich for $ 7.95 1. Types of Bread(They are all different types of Paninis) Western Wheat, Sourdough, Hawaiian Sweet, Sun Fried Tomato, Jalapeño Cheddar, Deli Rye, Irish Potato, German Black, Asiago Cheese, Rosemary, Buffalo Blue Cheese, Country White, and Hoagie (I am quite amazed at their HUGE selection of bread choices!!! But I love it) 2. Meats Roast Beef, Corned Beef, Turkey, Chicken, Ham, Salami, Pepperoni, Tuna, Pastrami Add Bacon $ 1.49 extra 3. Cheeses Cheddar, Pepper Jack, Provolone, Swiss, Blue Cheese, Parmesan 4. Condiments Mustard, Olive Oil, Mayo, Vinegar, Ranch Dress, Salt/Pepper, Garlic/Cilantro Mayo, 1000 Island, BBQ Sauce, Franks Red Hot Sauce, Crab Apple Jelly, Strawberry Preserves, Chipotle Sauce, Honey Mustard, Deli mustard, Pico De Gallo, Peanut Butter (holy moly they have a lot of sauces too!) 5. Veggies Tomoato, Green Bell Pepper, Lettuce, Jalapeño, Cucumber, Red Onion, Pepporcini, Spinach, Olives, Pickes Add Avocado $ 1.49 extra MYSANDWICH $ 10.20(after tax) Jalapeño Cheddar Panini with pastrami, pepper jack cheese, olive oil, garlic mayo, chipotle sauce, spinach, olives, green bell pepper, cucumber and avocado. A little bit pricey but well worth the money! It was DELICIOUS! To be honest, I was never much of a fan for panini breads, but this was definitely the best panini sandwich i’ve ever had! It was stuffed half full with pastrami and half with vegetables. It was nicely toasted. Everything tasted fresh. And i absolutely loved the garlic mayo!!! Lastly, they gave me the most avocado i’ve ever gotten from any sandwich shops! Definitely appreciated! Overall, great quality sandwiches! Definitely coming back here often for lunch!

I live right around the corner from Dudley’s, I have yet to try them out until yesterday! What a great first impression, very clean, and new ! I decided to order the Baja! Never have I had a sandwhich with salsa in it. It was surprisingly delicious. One thing that’s a bit annoying is that a «Baja«Sandwhich wouldn’t come with avocado, so by the time I added it and got chips, my meal was at 11 $. Just for a Normal lunch day that’s pretty expensive(in my opinion) I recommend this place for sure, but not all the time. The staff was friendly, welcoming and attentive.

My first experience at Dudley’s wasn’t very positive. I arrived at 6am sharp and there wasn’t any sign of life in the building.(Their hours clearly state that they open at 6am.) I sadly ended up going to Subway for my lunch that day. I waited a few months before trying my luck again and arrived around 6:15 am. I probably was the first customer of the day, because the employee seemed surprised to see me walking through the door. I went with the«Hawaiian Pineapple,» which included ham, Swiss cheese, pineapple, and crab apple jam on Hawaiian sweet bread. Typically this sandwich is toasted, but because I wasn’t going to be eating it for another 5 or so hours, I decided to not send it to the panini press. To be honest, the sandwich didn’t look that appetizing. The oozing brown crab apple jam in particular didn’t make it look very tasty, but looks are deceiving! After one bite, I was blown away by the flavorfulness of the sandwich. The pineapple and jam really give the sandwich something special. I hope Dudley’s Deli extends their hours, because only being open Monday through Friday from 6−3pm really makes it difficult to stop by.(The weekday traffic is no joke around this area.)

Dudleys is a nice addition to Clairemont Mesa Blvd area. They offer a good selection of sandwiches and a build your own option. If you want a combo uou can add a drink, chips or a pickle. The pickle packs a punch. I ventured out my normal box and tried their Turkey Strawberry sandwich. Reel me in and I am a fan. The sandwich was lightly grilled in a panini style. Very tasty. They make the sandwiches in front of you in an open air style kitchen, so no surprises Dudley’s sells fresh bread. The selection of breads available is small however still good stuff. The maple pecan was a nice one that I tried. If your purchasing a sandwich there is a frequent buyer card. Guess who is going back to fill up their frequent buyer card?!

Solid lunchtime option for an area that is geared toward the work crowd. I ordered the TBA(turkey bacon avocado), which came on wheat bread. The sandwiches are served panini-style, which means that they are lightly grilled and pressed. Therefore, your sandwiches haven’t been squashed to death and the bread maintains its overall cushiony-softness. They pile it high with quality deli meat. If meat’s not your thing, just know that their veggie sandwich is SOGOOD. You can also create your own sandwich. I’m sad that I never had a chance to try the Thanksgiving special(turkey and stuffing with cranberry sauce), which was offered in November. Oh well, you snooze, you lose. Dudley’s tends to be crowded during lunch time but the employees move quickly. They also sell pies, loaves of bread, fruit bars, and pastries. I made a mental note to swing by if there is a potluck to attend or a last-minute gift to give. Or if I just want pie for dinner.

I came to Dudley’s after doing a long hike, was craving a nice sandwich for a late lunch. Luckily Dudley’s was still open around 2ish in the afternoon, even on a holiday. I’ve visited Dudley’s several times out in their Santa Ysabel location near Julian for many years, They have some of the best tasting breads I’ve had and they never disappoint as far as sandwiches go. I know they opened a Santee location before this one, but I was excited to see them opening up more near my area. Inside the deli( ) you have a huge menu on the wall, a big barrel of pickles to the side and plenty of room for sitting down to enjoy a lunch. I wanted a turkey sandwich, so I went with the create your own sandwich with some of the standard stuff that most clubs come with. The sandwich( ) looked delicious, stacked high with turkey and fresh avocados. I don’t think you could have got more perfectly ripe avocados as the ones they used to make that sandwich, they were perfect. The rosemary sandwich bread was quite heavenly, a good mix with turkey meat and swiss cheese. The sandwich was a good deal of size and was so good I finished the entire thing. I didn’t really try any of the sides because I’m not much of a chips fan, even though they do offer different sides than that. I’m glad Dudley’s is expanding their business out of far east county, its also great to have a quality deli in the Clairemont Mesa area where I usually end up working my days. I will definitely come back here for lunch more often.

The location sits next to the Court House in Clairemont. It’s very open and inviting. It’s fairly average in size with a good amount of seating. I like the fact that the kitchen is open and is viewable to the public. The employees can be a little more friendlier and not so robotic, but I’m not complaining. The food comes out fairly quickly. We went there with a group of 4 and we all got our sandwiches in a little over 5 minutes. They also offered free chips with our order. For my first visit I got the pastrami Reuben and it tasted up to par. It would be great if the bread wasn’t slice bread, maybe toasted a little more, but the overall sandwich was a 4 out of 5. Their menu looks promising and I’m looking forward to giving their whole menu a shot.
