Elite Event: East Village Tavern + Bowl

I’m a little behind on this review but what a GREAT event and an awesome venue! Who knew there was bowling in a bar… usually you go to the bowling alley and maybe add a bar-​like atmosphere but this place was rocking! They are bringing back drowling (drinking + bowing) in style with fluorescent pins and DJ beats and a throwback disco/​roller rink vibe– loved it! The energy was awesome and I met some super amazing people like Denise, Suzanna, Cindy and Sharon! The servers were great and food was overflowing! Although they said there were bites, there were bites upon bites upon bites!
They had a variety of items from Pulled Pork Man N Cheese, steak tacos, pizza, and sliders along with drinks and desserts! Most of the items were good and I definitely have to a give a HUGE kudos to their staff and team for trying to make all the items in-​house and fresh. Way to kick up bar food to a new level!
Thanks Brad for letting me join such an AWESOME event and make some new friends! Definitely a great night and an super fun place to come with friends and get your bowl on!

Happy 100^th review! I saved this one for an amazing Elite event, and East Tavern Bowl this is for you!
Where do I begin… The food, the fun, the people, the food again… there was A LOT of it. :)
The food… There was so much of everything! Of course you want to try everything… and have extra of what you love… Right? Yes, we’ll go with that. I tried everything and over indulged. My belly was deliriously happy.
1) The wings… 2 kinds. Sweet and sticky. Salty and Savory. These were my favorite! I love wiinnggggsss!
2) Pulled pork Mac and cheese. OMG!!! This was soooo close to being my first favorite, so it comes in at a close second.
3) The sliders… 3 kinds. Beef, Salmon, and Lobster. All were well cooked, and extremely good. Depends on what you’re in the mood for.
4) Ribs… Definitely a fan favorite!
5) The flatbreads — I don’t know how many different kinds there were, but I got to try 2 kinds, and they were great! Easy to eat, extra crispy crust (my pizza pet peeve… have to have it) and really flavorful!
Those rounds out my memorable eats that night… and I saved the tiniest bit of room for the Crème brulee of course! I didn’t over indulge since it was in a perfectly sized small dish. Thank you!
I’m not great at bowling and in fact a bit embarrassing at times, but I got 1 lucky strike, and a whole lot of fun!!!

My first Unilocal Elite Event only in San Diego! So much enthusiasm. Just the size of the East Village Tavern + Bowl as well as the amount of Unilocal Elites in this event was amazing!
I like their food — and I think this was the first event I’ve ever been to (both NY and SD) that Unilocalers actually turned away food. I actually turned away dessert (well sort of). I only had the Crème Brulee… not all of the desserts offered. Yeap, it was that serious. My fave of the night? The SLIDERS. They were actually cooked medium rare!
Thanks to Brad for hosting another awesome event. Thanks to Estefany for keep track of everybody and greeting. Thanks to East Village Tavern for hosting — and donating to ALS. The ice bucket challenge was a site to see!

Pre-​Dranks with the best damn Unilocalers & friends a girl could have, David G and Melanio at Rare Form.
My comrades and I will later talk about an Elite event as oh that was the «drinking event» or that was the «food event», this was definitely a «food event» for sure. I had a snack at the office before heading down so I was unable to sample all the food… I mean like tons of food they were serving out.
Here is my little list:
Sushi — Hard Pass, do not collect $ 200. One bite and I was done.
Potato Salad — I was pretty yum, I kept asking is that jicama in it. Whatever it was it was good.
Artichoke — My favorite thing for sure, so garlicky, lemony just like Mom makes it. I’m from the Central Coast and we all grew up eating them. I’ve never seen so many people not know who to eat an artichoke. I heard a couple of people saying gross as they are gnawing the whole leaf in their mouth. I had to do some educating yo.
Flat bread — Way too salty, like I’m a salty chick but this was out of control.
Beef Slider — It was okay, kind of messy to eat.
Lobster roll — The 2^nd best thing I tried for sure. I wish I had one right now.
Hadn’t been bowling for years and I had a great time with my peeps. Shout out to my dancing buddy Con-​rizzle! «oak tree».
My friends and I about 10 of us already have a plan to go in September to do a bowling night with the crew.
Thank you East Village Tavern + Bowl and Brad-​leeeeee for putting on a fun event even if it was on a monday. /​wink wink

This event was the perfect example of how you can totally suck at something but when surrounded by good friends, good food and good booze, you can still have a whole lot of fun. Enter: East Village Tavern & Bowl. They did their part in making sure everybody wasn’t starved, wasn’t thirsty and most importantly, were having a blast even though some (most?) were lousy bowlers.
Aside from one strike and a couple of hits here and there, most of the night I was living life in the gutter… and loving it. Anyway, the bowling was a blast!
The food was no slouch either. The new menu they’re boasting was actually quite solid! Bacon & Bleu Cheese sliders and ribs were my favorites and the wings were a close second. All of them were cooked to perfection and I probably could have slammed down a bunch of those had I not been distracted by displaying my awful bowling skills in a game of bowling. The desserts were outstanding as well. The cookie was my favorite but the chocolate covered strawberry was done perfectly and the Butterscotch Crème Brulee was excellent as well. Seriously, it was impossible to go wrong with anything on the menu.
Anyway I got to bowl with a group of cool people and we all had a blast while sharing laughs, drinks and food. It was definitely a great night.
Thanks to B-​Rad, Estefany and East Village Tavern & Bowl for hooking it up and spoiling us. That was definitely some of the most fun that I’ve had in recent memory at a Unilocal Event that pretty much catered 100% to my ADHD. So kudos for that. They’re working hard so we can play hard… which means they are awesome.
It was good seeing the regulars and meeting some new people as well, as always it’s great to hang out and I always feel bad that I don’t get to hang out with everybody longer than I do it just seems like we are always jumping from one place to another, so here’s catching everybody at the next one!

Woohoo! Another fantastic Unilocal Elite event put on Mr. Cool aka Brad B and the lovely Estefany. I had never been to East Village Tavern + Bowl, but now I’m going to have to return for the excellent food, fun bowling, and great service!
This establishment is large and very open, which has a very welcoming feeling but can be rather loud when packed with talkative people, which we Unilocal Elite are. Nevertheless, it’s very clean, and I like the layout. Patrons would never know there’s a bowling alley right past the bar because it’s separated by a wall and the noise is dampened. Someone said the bowling lanes are shorter than standard lanes, but I choose to ignore him because I was ON FIRE at the event throwing no less than a dozen strikes! It must have been because I was bowling in my new bowler hat! Yeah, that’s the ticket! Speaking of tickets, East Village Tavern + Bowl even gave everyone two tickets for free bowling on a future visit. Now that’s cool!
While the bowling was fun, the food was the highlight of the evening! It was delicious and plentiful. I must have gained a few pounds, but it was hard to resist trying everything. It’s a good thing the Nori Roll was served first because it was bland and unexciting. However, everything afterwards was spot on! Some of my favorites of the night include: Filet Mignon tacos, Bacon Blue Cheese Slider, Baby Back Riblets, Butterscotch Crème Brulee, and the Blackened Salmon Slider. However, the star of the night (besides Brad) was the gourmet Mac ‘n’ Cheese with BBQ Pulled Pork and crispy onion rings. I’m not normally a fan of gourmet Mac ‘n’ Cheese, but I’ll definitely order this unusual combination the next time I visit!
It was a blast hanging out with fellow Unilocal Elites, especially Mercy, Mel, and Vin. I also saw many other familiar faces and even met some new people! It’s always fun to party with Unilocalers as we’re a very social and friendly group. I’m still a noob Unilocal Elite, but I’m constantly blown away by the fun events that I’ve attended simply for being active on Unilocal

Want to feel like a fatass? Well, get elite and get to go to elite only events.
Elite only events are one of the few events where you’ll be turning away food! Yes, turning away. What kind of elite turns away food? A happy fatass elite who is SUPER SATISFIED! Yeup! My stommie says thank you Brad for a great night and thank you East Village for the non-​stop good food!
I got to try almost everything except the Lobster slider and steak taco, which I guess was okay because I had room for desserts! Yes DESSERTSSSS. Chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate chip cookie, and butterscotch crème burlee. It was a good mix of food and the servers actually got to make it around the room.
Feeling 5 lbs heavier is always a great elite even to me. I don’t mind the extra pounds, keep em coming! No salad over here please.

I haven’t been to East Village Tavern + Bowl in ages, but glad I RSVP’d to attend last night’s Elite event since I had such a great time!
Everyone from the security personnel out front checking ID’s, to Estefany checking us in with her cheerful smile and the rest of the staff welcoming us with open arms and (what seemed like) endless trays of savory bites made for a fun evening with fellow Unilocalers.
My favorite from last night was the Classic New England Lobster Roll sliders. I was telling Julie S. (O.G. San Diego Unilocaler transplanted San Antonio Unilocaler) how easy and clean it was to eat this nice treat as I accidentally smeared her arm with some of the content after saying that, lol. Oops.
In looking at the Event Menu, it’ll probably surprise future guests of EVT+B at how this will not be your typical bar food menu. They certainly stepped it up and will wow customers with the variety of appetizing food options we can select from. I can see myself making a pit stop here to load up on some yummy eats before heading over to Petco Park to catch a game, it was that delicious.
Thanks Brad for being the awesome CM you are… it’s no wonder why we happily chanted «BRAD! BRAD! BRAD!» a few weeks ago as we were celebrating 10-​years of Unilocal in San Francisco! You really take great care of us and we appreciate it!
Thanks again to the GM, AGM, bartenders, security personnel and everyone else in between at East Village Tavern + Bowl, you were definitely the hostess with the mostess last night and I’ll be sure to return back so I can actually bowl (thanks to the free bowling vouchers you gave us on our way out).

Wowza! What a fun event!
I was in the second bowling group so I spent the first half of the evening grubbing down on the wings, tacos and (may favorite of the evening) the mac n’ cheese! It all came out relatively slow at first, then it just kept coming! Before I knew it, I was saying no to servers trying to dish out more food! And that is not a bad problem to have at an Elite event!
When it was time for the B squad to bowl I used the socks my husband purchased to play the round before me. They were a little more sweaty than I normally like my socks to be, but it didn’t ruin the night. I played a pretty good game with my partner Jimmy. I guess the other two 10B teammates were in food comas and couldn’t gather the strength to join us! No worries though, we did awesome! Well, we would have done a lot better but I’m pretty sure the bottom of our bowling pins were more sticky than everyone else’s and I think someone rigged our bowling balls with magnets to the gutters… sneaky, sneaky.
Anywho, after the game I ate some AMAZING crème brûlée, a delicious chocolate covered strawberry and I had a bite of Cat’s chocolate chip cookie. YUM!
This was yet ANOTHER amazing event with all of my favorite people and even some new favorites! I would be excited to come back to the East Village Tavern for a more typical experience but, who am I kidding, I’ll probably end up coming back with fellow Unilocalers again anyways!

Besides that fiasco, my night was happy! We (Nette and I) arrived about an hour before the event to try to hit up a happy hour pre-​party bar. We ended up at Neighborhood to grab a brew and chicharones with Jeffy.
The event was nice and small with all the Elites (no plus ones), which was awesome. I got to mingle with a lot more peeps than usual, and I wasn’t annoyed of it being crowded. Although I said I was going to bowl, time flew by so quickly that I missed my number! BOO…
I only had 1 cocktail and a few bites. I tried the mac and cheese, steak taco, 2 different pizzas, crème brûlée, the chocolate covered strawberry, and the cookie. The servers were all very nice, generous and super friendly!
The bowling alley was small with only 5 lanes, but super cool with the dim lighting. I made my way over to the area to chit chat with some of the bowlers and went back to the bar.
Thanks Brad, Estefany and to EVTB for making us feel special for the night. Your food, drinks and service were amazing! Thanks for the free bowling coupons too!
Plugging in the CMYE on Tues, ⁸⁄₂₆ — M&M (Melanio and Maria-that’s me!) will be guest bartending for charity from 6−9p at Spike Africa’s. Let’s show No Kid Hungry that Unilocalers are generous and supportive!!!

I’m from North County and this was my first San Diego event! I had such an amazing time tonight! I was lucky to be able to carpool with my friend Judy from Oceanside. We arrived early and were able to find parking right across the street with just one loop around the block. Thank you so much, Judy!
I’ve been to the NC Tavern & Bowl in Escondido a few times and attended the Elite Event there not too long ago so I was already familiar with the new menu. Overall I felt as though the food items here had an edge on the other location! The baby back ribs were SOO good and just fell right off the bone. This dish was my favorite of the night! I also loved the pulled pork mac & cheese, wings, & the house burger. The biggest disappointment I experienced was the lobster roll. I didn’t get to try this last time so I was really looking forward to it. I was surprised to find a «lobster salad» filled with huge chunks of onion and way too much mayo. Why would you do this to lobster? Other than that everything was really good! We were at a table that was kind of forgotten on the end so we had to search and run for the food, but there was more than plenty to go around and I was FULL and happy. :D
There are more lanes here than at the other one, but still only 12 which is not very many compared to other bowling alleys. The lanes aren’t to regulation and you don’t get any slide but it is definitely a great place to get together with your friends and have a lot of fun! I bowled in the second round and at the end there were only two people on my team, Ching-​Yun and I! We KILLED it and won the bowling prize! We won reversible Unilocal bags FILLED with AMAZING gifts! An umbrella! Frisbee, journal, water bottles, towels, mug, nail file, and more! WOW! Topped off with a chocolate covered strawberry! Delicious!

Bowling can be fun. Really super fun! I never knew that until last night! Well… to be honest, not until I attended the YEE at the Escondido Tavern + Bowl three months ago. The generous owners of that location extended their generosity to their downtown San Diego location, so you can imagine my excitement.
The lines formed about 45 minutes before we were allowed in. Parking was a breeze, because after 6:00pm, the yellow curbs can be parked at without fear of being towed. We actually parked immediately in front of the front door!
The evening started off with bites and libations. Each attendee was given two drink coupons; I used mine quickly, but was given another by a generous Unilocaler, who wasn’t drinking that night (it was a school night, after all).
The food and drink were absolutely fabulous. From the riblets, barbecued pulled pork mac & cheese, sliders, and steak tacos to the chocolate-​dipped chocolate chip cookies, everything was really great. I downed several Guinness Stout’s, slipped on my bowling shoes, and proceeded into the bowling area. Although I didn’t bowl a very good game, it was so much fun I just couldn’t leave.
I finally finished up my last frame, and moved back into the tavern in time to watch the ice bucket challenge. How much fun was that — to watch ice cold water being dumped over the head of five innocent bystanders. LOL. Hilarious!
The best part of the elite events, in my opinion is the ambience afforded by Brad, Estefany, and all of the gracious attendees. Kudos to the management and staff of the East Village Tavern + Bowl. I can’t wait to come back on my own dime and enjoy your wonderful establishment!
Tastes galore

Crashing into 2 margaritas with fresh lime, I was bowling for hugs from my Unilocal buds on the hottest Elite squad on the planet. The East Village Tavern & Bowl served up a harpsichord of happy in every key! Music pumped jealously as I shared a Grilled Artichoke with Vin, Mercy and Jeb. We took a bath in the balsamic rosemary vinaigrette, and the delish tarragon aioli also doubles as a skin moisturizer!
The creamy Macaroni & Cheese is topped with a tantalizing tease of pulled pork, and the BBQ sauce is a sweet companion to the fried onion rings on top. This dreamy creation is dazzled with a drizzle of truffle oil. This goes to the top of Mel J’s new list of best Macaroni & Cheese!
The Slider scored a home run, sporting grass-​fed beef, the bluest of cheese, yummy condiments, and chipotle aioli. The tavern wings with a yummy sauce disappeared upon arrival! I AM STILL STUFFED with gourmet food from a bowling alley that now has a new made-​from-​scratch kitchen concept!
While I was bowling, the kindest server tried to force feed me butterscotch crème brûlée, chocolate strawberries, and a cookie dipped in chocolate. I politely declined. NOT! LOL I ate them all. Scrumptious, all three.
Juan R bought me a gin and tonic after I used up my 2 free drink tokens. I owe you a drink, my friend! Hello, Randy! Hugs!
Jay, it was nice meeting you in line for the YEE! Hope you had as much rollicking fun as we did. (-;
Will I return to toss more of my 8-​pound curve balls into the gutter? Heck yeah, in fact, I’ll return just for the food on the new menu and the bar!
One suggestion. My Ahi tuna roll was crying on my plate in embarrassment, because she wasn’t as tasty or well dressed as the other items we sampled. There was no sauce, and the fried rice on the tuna roll overpowered the taste of the Ahi tuna. I’d suggest less rice, more tuna, add a bit of jalapeño or avocado or something, and don’t forget the sauce.

Free bowling and chicken wings… Life doesn’t get much better until you add bbq ribs! I was excited about this event as I really, really, love bowling, bbq ribs, and chicken wings. Waiting in line to get in I was impressed by the awesome dining area. This is the coolest bowling alley I have ever visited. Being one of the first ones in I collected an awesome Unilocal bike bell for my bike, a Unilocal frisbee, and a handy Unilocal nail file. :-) Bowling was really fun as I met some cool people on my team. It was great how the staff kept coming by with food while we bowled. I was impressed how they had more food than even I could eat!
The tavern wings had a delicious flavor with a slight kick. Very good!
The tequila lime wings were seasoned perfectly. I had frozen ones from Costco which have too much bite to them. These were very good!
The baby back riblets. So beautiful with that red glaze. Tender meat falling off the bone. Delicious sweet flavor from the awesome bbq sauce. Excellent!
The blackened salmon sliders. The fish was very nicely cooked but I found this dish over seasoned. I’d probably like it if I took the time to scrape some of the seasoning off. I am not a fan of blackened dishes.
Blue cheese burger sliders. Loved the flavor of the beef and bacon!
Butterscotch crème brûlée. Liked the flavor. This dish would be great with more work with the blowtorch to give it more of the crunchy top crust I love.
Chocolate chip cookie. Too sweet/​rich for me. I’d prefer less chocolate/​sweetness.
Chocolate covered strawberry. Loved the flavor of the strawberry combining with the chocolate!
Thanks for the amazing event Brad, Estefany, and everybody at Tavern & Bowl! Loved the extraordinary amounts of awesome food, bowling, and socializing with my Unilocal Elite friends. :-)

I had so much fun eating it up and chatting with friends that I forgot to bowl! Little did I know that I could have eaten and chatted with friends while I bowled. I am so disappointed in myself. I really am, but I am coming back to bowl using my two free games of bowling before October so watch out now.
This event was so much fun. As soon as I walk in the door, I am greeted by faemiliar faces and I hear my friend, Denise, tell me that she found a bike bell. I immediately run to her and go «Where? Are there any more?» and there I go scrambling through the place trying to find one and one I did find with the help of Denise. You deserve a shout out girl. That just made my night. I could have probably walked away happy as can be playing with my new bike bell even if I don’t have a bike.
I kept waiving over the servers and honestly, I think my brain thought I could eat all of these foods, but my stomach said nuh uh girl. Favorites of the night included that BBQ pulled pork mac n cheese and bacon blue cheese burger slider. The riblets and pizzas were also really good too. I couldn’t stop eating. I kept saying that I was full and yet, I kept stuffing my face. When will I ever learn?
A big thank you goes out to the East Village Tavern staff, particularly JAY, who was amazing in getting us an extra 4 mac n cheese dishes when the kitchen was closed. Everyone else was also extremely welcoming and charming. Loved the atmosphere and the fact that it didn’t feel crowded. It felt open and relaxing. Great job to Brad, Estephany, all the Unilocal staff, and all the East Village Tavern staff that made this happen. I think I can skip lunch tomorrow with all the food that I ate.

This place keeps getting better and better. Spacious. Hip. Nice servers. And now.. Great food!
How often can you say that about a bowling alley?
Heck, I’d come here to enjoy the food and not even bowl, IS that good! And that’s exactly what I did tonight.

It’s pretty read when halfway through an event you’re actually turning food down because you’re already so stuffed.
This night was truly a Unilocal elite experience.

Rockin’ my bowling league shirt and got my gear with me… seeing how tonight’s Unilocal Elite event is going to be at East Tavern & Bowl, might as well get some practice in!
Will I bowl a 200 game? Will I get to try everything on tonight’s menu? And… How drunk will I get while bowling? Stay tuned, ladies and gentlemen!
7:15 — Soooo… not only am I first through the door, I’m also in the first group to bowl! Wish me luck!
7:50 — My competitive side is rearing its head… unfortunately, I am sucking. Big time. The lanes have a shorter approach, they’re not oiled, and the lights make it hard to see. Not to mention that my aim keeps going to the side…
(EDIT: I should also add that I wasn’t the only one having problem with the lanes; two of Judy S.‘s friends also are league bowlers, and they were having the same problems I was. No wonder no one’s bowled a perfect game on site yet.)
8:15 — Glad that’s over. Argh… at least the food and the people makes it worthwhile. We REALLY got fed tonight; highlights were the lobster roll sliders, the BBQ ribs, the sushi rolls, the artichokes, the pulled pork mac & cheese, and the flatbread pizzas. The only thing I didn’t try was the steak tacos. If I could name my three favorites, they would be the lobster roll slider (worth waiting for), the BBQ ribs (very tender), and the pulled pork mac & cheese (AWESOME!).
8:45 — Dessert time! Had enough room for the blueberry crème brûlée, a chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookie, and a chocolate dipped strawberry… feeling really busog now, and I think I’ll take my dogs for a walk tomorrow to burn this all off.
9:10 — The managerial staff of Elite Tavern & Bowl do the ALS ice bucket challenge! (Someone call out Brad, Estefany, and Trish to do it…)
Despite my less than stellar bowling tonight, I still had a great time seeing everyone (and picked up some great swag for myself and my lady). THANK YOU to Brad, Estefany, and the fine staff at East Tavern & Bowl for hosting us! With those game tickets, I’ll be coming back to redeem myself (hopefully)!

And I am very excited to say that I finally picked up a Unilocal frisbee, a bouncy ball, and a bike bell! Can’t wait to install that bad boy on my beach cruiser and play some frisbee at the beach!

I really ragret not dressing up like The Dude and drinking White Russians all night while clutching an area rug that really tied the room together.
Movie references aside, I had a blast visiting with familiar faces and meeting some new ones. It’s the latter that I truly appreciate because I’m trying to leave the comfort zone of latching onto a single clique all night. My challenge is to mingle and be merry!
I managed to photograph some snacks with decreasing accuracy throughout the evening. I apologize for the failed food pr0n pics. Many tasty bites emerged from the food lab, so much kudos to Chef and Team Kitchen. I missed out on some of them, but enjoyed what I sampled. I’m bummed that I missed out on pulled pork mac & cheese because it sounded like a fan fave :(The sliders were all delicious, especially the lobster. If I had to critique anything it would be the chicken wings. As elevated bar food, I would emphasize crisping the exterior before saucing. The flavors are great, but the texture is just ok IMO.
The bowling alleys are amazing. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but having multiple lanes in the downtown area without the big box warehouse space is pretty cool. I’m not an avid bowler, so I’m easily dazzled with the lighting and animations. I’m just happy to throw more strikes than gutter balls and help the team pick up some spares. Shoutout to pin pals Jeb H and Tony C for hurling some big time strikes down lane number one! Cheers to Mitch B for the shots! w00t!

In the oh-​so-​fickle nightlife scene of San Diego, East Village Tavern & Bowl has managed to stick around way longer than the typical downtown business.
This amazing event proved that EVT&B’s success is for good reason. After all, EVT&B isn’t one to rest on its laurels. Sure, it has the built-​in advantage of being the only bowling alley in downtown SD, but it’s doing a top-​notch job keeping up with all the food trends — as shown by its new menu.
Speaking of the menu — I absolutely *loved* tasting the new items here.
Tavern wings? LOVED.
Grilled artichoke? LOVED.
Bacon bleu cheese slider? LOVED.
Filet mignon steak taco? LOVED.
Baby back ribs? LOVED.
Crème brûlée, chocolate chip cookie, and chocolate-​dipped strawberries? LOVED.
BBQ pulled pork mac and cheese? MY FAVORITE!
The only items I wasn’t enthusiastic about were the fried ahi sushi (very bland) and the flatbread with fried egg (very salty). Just a lil’ constructive criticism there — no tea no shade. ;-)
But seriously — the amount of food at this event was epic. It just kept flowing and flowing and I found myself turning down even more servings. The staff at EVT&B really know how to spoil their guests. :-)
The EVT&B staff also must have nerves of steel, since they took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with stride and barely a whimper of complaint. Nicely done!
