Elite Event: Jsix

The ambiance here is amazing. A nice view of downtown, small fire pits, great lounge chairs. But the drinks are pricey. Ten dollars for a gun and tonic or a vodka soda? Really? No, really? Beer selection is just okay with only a few taps. The selection might be good elsewhere. But this is San Diego after all, so my beer expectations are harder to meet.
Service is fine. And this is a great space to meet a lot of people last minute. It’s not super crowded even on a Friday night. So I recommend coming here if you have a large crowd last minute. Just not otherwise.

Sometimes. having too many events in one week is a plus but for a reviewing standpoint, the last event becomes the casualty on my review list. After also having to travel after for an out-​of town visit and new places, you tend to keep neglecting your tasks.
Well Jsix was a wonderful afternoon Unilocal Elite Event worthy of praise and plenty of food. It was a big event which always means long lines. It was an afternoon event which means, the party doesn’t end there.
Jsix also has a lounge area on it’s roof which is open to the public, its a nice area to get away from the street crowd (most likely tourists).
Overall, the new menu might be something to try in the Gaslamp before going out for the night.

Another fantastic Unilocal Elite Event for the world-​famous San Diego crew! Jsix was an unknown entity to me, but after attending this event, I will definitely return for more of their tasty treats and well-​endowed adult beverages.
It was a warm Saturday when a lucky number of us were invited to partake of some of Jsix’s delights. The line formed early as we eagerly stacked up to move in and begin to have fun. The party started downstairs where we were greeted with cocktails, wines, and brews. Then came the ample food offerings. Three huge and fantastic salads to accompany the tempura squash blossoms in wasabi sauce (my fav!), little duck sliders, lobster pasta, and many other wonderful bites. And the drinks just kept on flowing!
Just when I was feeling pretty satiated, the party moved upstars! This was a first for me at a YEE — a location-​changing party! We shuffled up to the pool deck and continued the socializing. This was a lovely afternoon experience; one I will definitely be repeating soon!

Saturday Unilocal a Elite Events are bomb. They are smaller and you get to spend more time with your Elite peeps. Parking was easy peasy on a weekend afternoon, and the restaurant was closed especially for us Unilocalers.
I used to come to the lounge a lot at JSix and glad they were able to host us to serve as a reminder how incredible this place is. We were provided with delicious libations and delicious bites (served buffet style and tray passed). The staff was super friendly and made sure to accommodate everyone.
After we mingled for about an hour in the restaurant, we were led to the rooftop bar and provided champagne. We shared the space with other people and guests staying at the hotel, but it was nice to see how popular this place is. The views are amazing and you can get a glimpse of Petco Park.
On the rooftop there are also cabanas (which I believe you need to reserve) and a pool for hotel guests.
Brad did an excellent job in setting this small shindig for us. Thanks Sandra for helping out with the party planning! We were all provided with gift certificates to come back and dine at JSix, which we will definitely use!

What a fun event! The food was great, I was really lovin’ that tube pasta with shrimp and the kale and apple salad. I wasn’t quite feelin’ the duck slider with the apricot jam, and the raspberry vodka seemed a bit watered down– however the bourbon cocktail they served, had quite the punch (same with the tequila cocktail)! My boyfriend was loving the JSix IPA and the bourbon cocktail.
I absolutely loved the setting of the place, the ambiance was great for a social meeting. I wasn’t sure if they were also going to be serving drinks at the lounge upstairs as part of the Unilocal event, but Brad definitely delivered! The pool area was big enough to accommodate our party as well as the guests staying at the hotel. The service was great at both Jsix and LOUNGEsix, and their draft beer selection is great.
I’ll definitely be coming back soon to use my $ 25 off that we received at the event. Thanks for the awesome freebies, Brad! Those wine and bottle openers are so handy!

Down town fun with some amazing folks, the cheese and meat board display was incredible. I helped myself to a glass of white wine (very great idea for pre poured glasses ready at the bar), enjoyed some pasta and got to experience Jsix for the first time.
Rooftop bar was my favorite, I noticed they allow dogs up there (yay) and the view isn’t spectacular but its downtown and you can see a bit of petco park.
Everyone was welcoming and so friendly, good sparkling choice at the roof top for mimosa (chronic cellars by paso robles).

What an AWESOME event!
I took a friend who has never been to a Unilocal Elite Event before and she had a blast! I’m so glad she had the chance to experience it, because it inspired her to start writing reviews!
First off, they greeted you with their awesome bourbon punch– which was SO yummy!
Then we headed over to the buffet– which was so yummy! The lobster pasta was my favorite.
I didn’t get to try everything, but I did enjoy all the food that I did have.
After we all filled our bellies full of food– we headed up to the roof top for the last hour of the event and had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful view and sunshine.
They offered us some yummy tequila and champagne cocktails to enjoy.
Overall, it was just another great event (I mean, what event hasn’t been great– Brad spoils us!)
I must say, it was a wonderful Saturday! Thank you JSix and THANK YOU Brad!!!

Brad and Sandra, you guys did it again with another awesome function! This got my Saturday off to a good start.
Since I had to drive up to LA right after the event, it left me with no choice but to behave myself so I only had a couple glasses of red wine (with a couple small sips of the bourbon here and there). The bartenders made sure the alcohol kept flowing though and there was plenty going around the keep all the Elites and +1’s happy!
The self serve area food was decent, especially the tenderloins wrapped in bacon! And the salads were pretty good as well (especially the kale). My only complaint is the duck sliders. The buns were entirely cold and hard and the meat itself was a bit bland. Other than that, everything else was just fine.
We made our way up to the rooftop and continued the mingling there. There was bubbly dranks for everyone to sip on for the last hour or so of the event.
Though the event did officially end at 5pm, tons of people were still chatting away and chillaxin’.

My first event, well besides dinner at the Hake, but yes, my first event. It was super cool because I got to drink all the IPA I wanted and was bombarded with appetizers. I loved it!
I also think it’s pretty cool to meet fellow Unilocalers that I have never met in person. It’s nice to put a face to a name.
As for the event itself, I didn’t really know what to expect. It really did exceed my expectations. It was literally a private event when I thought it was going to be intermingled with the rest of the restaurant with maybe a few private tables. Nope, I was wrong! There was a buffet with some amazing pasta options, along with three different salads and even a charcuterie pile. Good stuff! My favorite was the all you can drink draft beers! I caught quite the buzz…

I found it extremely exciting there was a Unilocal Elite Event being held on a Saturday. Especially in the East Village.

Overlooking within the view of East Village, is the left hand side of Petco Park. It is just a marvel of delight when taking within the breeze through these gigantic structures.
After already consuming a few of the JSix IPA, by the way they are poured with a 6-​index hand as their beer handle. It took me second round to figure the extra digit out. But no doubt, their beer is superb and delicious.
I was already stuffed eating a Mixed Salad with just about everything from Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin, deli meats, cheeses and don’t forget more greens. By then just having the rounds down in Jsix is terrific of it’s own.
Back to the rooftop.
After sipping on complimentary champagne, the sun was coming down on all of us taking over this laid and kick back rooftop setup. There is a tiny pool, just enough to get your bikini wet. But there’s plenty of lawn chairs to get your tan on.
The bartenders up here are a different species. However they are cool, so it was funny seeing how Unilocalers interacted with asking for free stuff. But if you are a smart and well informed Elite Unilocaler, you would of been ahead of the game by simply reading the email about the event and details. Suckers.
The fat: The good life is celebrated with great drinks and food.
The skinny: Parking in area shouldn’t be an issue.

Thank you so much, Jsix, Brad and Sandra!!! I really couldn’t have imagined a better way to kick off the 3 day weekend! What a great event!
I had their vodka cocktail the entire first hour. It was so good and went perfectly with the huge spread they laid out for us. They went all out! Between the two pasta selections, I LOVED the Cavatelli! It had a lemon grass flavor to it that I really liked. The squash blossoms were surprisingly delicious! We were also treated to some bacon wrapped pork tenderloins and my favorite of the day, the duck sliders! It was more like a burger than a slider, it was huge!
For the second hour, the party moved up to the hotel rooftop. Thank you for elevators, because mama was stuffed! As soon as we stepped off, it felt like we were transported to a Las Vegas pool party. The weather was beautiful and so were the people! We walked up to the bar and were instantly handed a couple glasses of some sparkling wine cocktail concoction. I didn’t catch what it was, but it was a stiff drink, I like!
It was overall super chill and we had a great time hanging out with the Unilocal crew. This was a great Saturday afternoon well spent. Thanks again Jsix, Brad, and Sandra for inviting us out to enjoy this hidden gem!

Five freakin’ Unilocal Elite events this month? Holy cannoli Bradman, you’re on fire! My girlfriend has been wanting to revisit Jsix since the remodel, and I’ve never been, so we were both thrilled to get into this event. It was fantastic, and we certainly didn’t expect to go to their upstairs lounge as part of the event. Big thanks go out to Brad, Sandra, and the wonderful staff at Jsix!
I’m glad that I was near the front of the line because I got to take pics and fill my plate while the food was still fresh. After grabbing a table, I went to the buffet area and saw the mighty impressive spread of pasta, salads, meats, and cheeses. I helped myself, and I also felt that it was my gentlemanly duty to fill a plate for my lady. To my surprise, I liked the white sausage pasta more than the seafood one. Both were good, but the white sausage pasta was cooked perfectly and had a slight kick to it.
The charcuterie was excellent, and the salads were light and flavorful. My only complaint is that I thought the mustard seed dressing should be more complex because to me it just tasted like mustard seeds in oil. I ended up using it to add flavor to the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin.
I appreciate how the tray-​passed items were brought around to each table, and they were fantastic! My favorite was the duck slider, with the deep fried squash blossom coming in a close second. The pork belly bao looked great, but to be honest, I wasn’t that thrilled with it. The slices of pork belly were too large, and the fat wasn’t rendered, so the result is a chewy piece of pork belly that was kind of difficult to bite through. I also found the outer shell/​bread to be too large and too thick.
I appreciate how there was buffet items and tray-​passed appetizers because no one was competing for food. This let everyone focus more on socializing and having a great time with our fellow Unilocalers! However, I ate way too much and I could barely waddle upstairs to the lounge. Fortunately, it’s a very large area filled with comfortable chairs and friendly staff. What a great way to end an event!

That Bourbon Punch was
I only tried the cheeses and the meats and I wanted to wrap up the Brie and smuggle it! Soooo good!
Once upstairs at the rooftop we shared laughs, great conversations, lots of pictures, hugs and some more delicious and refreshing drinks! I lost count of how many champagne sparkling drinks I had.
I can’t wait to go back again on our wonderful San Diego summer nights to enjoy some drinks with my friends at JSix’s Rooftop bar or to share a delicious dinner.

So much great food in a great environment!
Our Elite event at Jsix gave us a chance for Elites and their plus-​ones to try out lots of the great menu items with a nicely stocked buffet and free flowing drinks from a drink station or from the bartenders.
I loved the big eclectic gourmet salads such as the grapefruit and beet salad. I also enjoyed the warm cavatelli pasta in a white sauce, the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin and the tray-​passed duck sliders. I do wish the sliders had warmed or grilled buns though because the duck patty was deliciously flavored but got cold really fast! The fried squash blossoms were also perfectly, delicately fried.
The house punch made with a Jsix bourbon was my favorite but I also just enjoyed a smooth glass of red wine for the remainder of the event.
It was great that we got to see the entire establishment We had tables taking over the entire Jsix downstairs to eat all our food, and then we moved upstairs to the open patio that is LoungeSIX, mingling with non-​Yelpers, and enjoying more complimentary beverages.
A great way to spend the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend! Thank you to Brad B, Sandra M, and the wonderful staff and owners of JSix!

Rooftop party at JSix!
At first I thought the Unilocal event was going to be on the rooftop but instead it started in their hotel bar lounge then migrated up to the rooftop. So I was half right!
The JSIX hotel lounge: plenty of bar and table seating. It had plenty of space for everybody even a small look out with some loungy comfortable couches. Once I came in we were able to order drinks at the bar. ALL the beers were available and I had to ask the bartender again. ALL?! Yes, he said all were available, which was a big surprise because usually at events the place would choose only 1 – 2 available. It was too generous of JSix to allow all (I think they had 6 – 7 options). I tried their house IPA, a blonde and the some other one. Also had their red wine. The alcohol keep flowing at this event. And I was fully attentive now that I can enjoy some drinks.
Food: once seated we had a server bombard us with many options of food! We had the duck sliders (which were by no means a slider portion! It was huge! More like a duck burger), fried zucchini, pork belly sliders (my favorite thing from every thing), buffet style 3 different salads (beets & grapefruit, mixed and kale), meats & cheese boards, lobster and shrimp pasta and white sausage pasta and bacon wrapped pork. If you were able to try the lobster and shrimp pasta it was delicious. So much better than the pasta we had at Davanti Enoteca the night before… I enjoyed all heir different selection of food and their generosity. My least favorite was the duck slider because I thought they undercooked but I was told duck meat doesn’t brown! So that was my bad in jumping into quick conclusions… And throwing it away because I thought it was undercooked. Everything else was much enjoyed.
During the last half we were told we could hangout at the rooftop and still be able to get complimentary drinks. It was such a cool and I think only rooftop event so far and a great way to start the first time «cold» Memorial Day weekend for SD. Thanks again to Brad, Sandra, and Jsix for hosting us!

Yay to my first elite event!
I was very excited to attend my first event at Jsix and truly did not know what to expect. I knew it was going to be good but just didn’t know how good.
My bf and I showed up and waited in a line for a bit as they were checking ID’s prior to entering. At the door we were greeted by a nice girl working for Unilocal who introduced herself to us. I told her it was my first event and she mentioned she would make sure to come and say hi to us later which she did :)
We walked in and were immediately in a beautiful open space with tables and chairs and lots of red balloons. You could see a lot of wine glasses that had been poured waiting to be consumed. There was a drink station that was serving a whiskey mix drink and of course the bar which we headed to. The bar was offering all their beers on tab and a special vodka drink. BF and I both decided to get beer, BF had the Hess Claritas Kolsch and I had the Mission Blonde Ale. We tipped our bartender and carried on to check out the food.
As we are walking to the food a server came over with duck sliders which my BF had and really liked.
The spread for food was quite large– there were two different pastas, a large cheese board with fruit, a nice charcuterie plate, 3 different salad (the kale one salad and the apple with blue cheese were my favorite).
We found it funny the invite said «this is not supposed to be a filling meal» but rather snacks, please don’t come hungry :) well we didn’t come hungry but there was definitely a lot of food! Hey we are not complaining!
We had the opportunity to meet other Unilocaler elites’s which was great and Brad B the community manager.
BF and I continued to enjoy some beers at the bar while chatting and relaxing. Eventually everyone was taken to the rooftop to enjoy some nice Downtown views and continued to enjoy drinks upstairs.
All in All this was a great first Unilocal event to attend– I’m very happy to be part of a Unilocal community were Unilocalers not only love good eats, drinks and love good service but also enjoy sharing it with others and making appropriate recommendations to those businesses that need a little hand sometimes.

Also, not gonna lie it was pretty cool to walk into Jsix and sit wherever we wanted without waiting for a table. Now that’s awesome.

It’s all about the vibes. I went Jsixing armed only with a ginger ale and bitters disguised as a bourbon. It worked. Alisa smiled and said «hey girl» and Todd didn’t throw me into the rooftop pool. Thanks Todd. (-; I drifted through smoke rings conjured by Yeoples with exciting hair. Met Lesley M who is even more beautiful in person, like Rapunzel.
The YEE at Jsix in east village was a great chance to meet new Elites, and catch up with familiar Unilocal friends. Jsix is a spacious bar and restaurant with a cheerful dose of light and an open feeling.
We also enjoyed going up to LoungeSix, the pool-​side, rooftop bar, in the same building. This was also a part of the well-​planned YEE. It was a sunny day in May, and a great afternoon to be outside.
I wasn’t able to taste any of the lovely spread of food, nor enjoy the cocktails nor wines, because I’m recovering from a ferocious cold which stole my appetite. But the helpful bartenders recommended ginger ale with bitters, and this appeared to help, as when I left this event, my appetite was reviving. Thank you to the kind bartenders!
I look forward to returning to Jsix to try out the food and cocktails! I enjoyed hanging out with Vin and Ryan and Nicole and Tim and Jimmy D and all of our fantastic Elites and their plus 1’s. Elizabeth, it was nice to meet you, and welcome to all of the new Elites.

This was my first plus one’s attendance at a Unilocal event and I had warned him that it wasn’t intended to be a meal. He rolled his eyes at me as we sampled pork roulade in mustard sauce… seafood pasta… gourmet kale salad… beet and grapefruit salad with goat cheese… tempura squash in wasabi sauce… duck sliders… asian pork belly buns… prosciutto, salami, cheeses, crackers… and the list goes on!!!
We had intended to go to happy hour afterwards but the JSIX generosity was so abundant there was no need to patronize another downtown venue. We were satiated by a delicious chardonnay called McManis that was new to us, and quite pleasing to the palate. The location next to Solamar (a Kimpton chain that is pet friendly) is a huge plus for out of towners looking for a place to stay. I think we are planning our next staycation and while pooch sleeps we’ll hang out at the pool drinking fancy cocktails and eating gourmet food from JSIX.

Jsix shows us that this is still a place you can socialize at! Its always a blast being able to hang out with the Unilocalers. Catching up with the OGs and meeting the newbies, what a great place and time to do it! The daytime rooftop lounge is great on a sunny afternoon with plenty of seating and shaded areas.
There was lots of food on the buffet style tables and passed appetizers. Always nice to see some healthy options with huge bowls of salads too! I’m a bit sad that the Duck sliders though. I also got to try their cocktails which were delicious!
We didn’t get a chance to hear from Brad or JSix since we were scattered everywhere, but big thanks to JSix, Brad, Sandra, and Unilocal for bringing us together for an awesome event!
