Dr. Michael is wonderful answers all my questions. The staff is great, the optometrist Suzy is absolutely terrific. She went the extra mile and then some!

I will not be using this place. I called to make an appointment and explained to the receptionist my dilemma regarding scheduling (I have 3 kids at 3 schools and work). She told me they had a 1:45pm cancellation appointment available same day and told her I had to pick up another child during that time so I would need to see if I could find someone else to get my other child from school and I’d call her right back. She said no problem and to let her know. I found someone and called back within literally 5 minutes to which she exclaims the spot is no longer available! What? I told her I would call her right back. She couldn’t have gotten the other persons number and called them if I was unable to make it? At least she could have said no if she wasn’t willing to wait. Now I am in a total pickle and she could care less. Terrible receptionist and customer service.

Great doctors. Beautiful office. Could expand a bit on frame selection, but still a good experience.

Experience was ok. Everyone was nice but had a few problems.

The website indicated (or used too) that they would match frame cost if you find them cheaper. Well. I found them cheaper and even printed it out for them however they refuse to match the price (they give me another ~$ 10 off or so). Stand behind your promotion.

EyeLux doesn’t itemize the extra cost for the extra for your glasses. They have a process where they recommend you items and if you say yes, they will simply add it to the total so you don’t know how much it really cost. This is how they get you. This is salty. itemize the cost and be upfront with your customer.

They are expensive. So below is what I should be paying for each item. This retail charges at the higher end of each item. I have research many other retail and they charge normally in the middle.

Ask them to itemize the extra.
Prepare to pay a lot.
Call me cheap or whatever, but I will be require to visit other eye doctor who charges a reasonable price for the extra since times are tough these days.

I’ve read quite a few of the lower rated reviews on here and am really surprised! I’ve been a happy customer of EyeLux since they opened their doors (and a patient of Dr Chou since before he was here). I wonder if many of these negative reviews are the result of a misunderstanding that people were not willing to work over with the office.
That all being said, I have never had anything but the utmost respect and service from EyeLux and Dr Chou and would happily recommend them to friends and family! I love the place even more now that I have a stellar vision insurance plan provided through work AND they reward me for returning each year with a $ off my exam!

Dr. Chou and his staff are amazing! He pays attention to detail and is always so kind. His staff always call to remind me of appointments. I drive from San ysidro but it’s worth the gas expense.

I don’t know if the Optometrists I had seen before were outdated, but the high-​tech initial eye-​testing kinda blew me away. The technician/​assistant was able to do all of the preliminary measurements, tests, and pictures of my eyes, which made the rest of the visit much more open for conversation with Dr. Michel and a more in-​depth analysis of my problems. She didn’t have to spend half of the appointment re-​testing and checking everything, and I didn’t need to get dilated!
I didn’t need glasses or contacts, but I did pick out a spiffy pair of sunglasses for my sensitive eyes. Most importantly, she diagnosed an eye condition that I didn’t know I had, and I can now work on fixing it. There’s a reason that annual optometry and dental exams are recommended!

I’ve been a patient for several years and have had good experiences here.

Although EyeLux has a great marketing campaign and probably great for average needs, I found many attributes of their process highly irregular. I went in for an annual eye exam and was fitted for a new pair of RGP contacts. I was told if they do not fit or if the vision is a problem that I had thirty (30) days to seek a better fit or Rx. When the contacts came in, I noticed right away that one contact was greatly out of focus, I pleaded with the doctor to take a look. He refused, claiming it was the best he could do. When I reviewed the Rx, I noticed he did not CHANGE the Rx from my previous contacts I was wearing.
Let me make this clear, he charged me for another contact without changing the Rx, when I told him I had vision problems he choose not to check the Rx, instead tried to SELL me a pair of glasses to where in addition, another product charge, sucking more money out of people. If you have been told by Dr. Chou or Eye Lux that this is a normal practice, they lied to you also. I’m not sure if there is malice or laziness at work here, but I actually suspect that arrogance is the cause of Dr. Chou and his staffs lack of professionalism.
There is much more to this story, as they breached HIPAA several times with my interaction with them. Those that suffer from Keratoconus don’t deserve to be jerked around like this. Please contact me if you have any questions or want the full story,

i have had bad vision since i was age 5. always going to eye doctors, eye exams, glasses, contacts. i have now been here twice for an eye exam in two years. I have never had a mire thorough eye exam in my life. both optomerist’s were awesome! went over every detail to make sure i got the best contacts for me. the entire staff is so helpful and kind. I will never go anywhere else now. My only regret is not going here sooner. I highly recommend

I came in today to look for new frames and perhaps schedule an appointment. The price of frames at Eye Lux are high. They have a nice selection.
What forever turned me off to EyeLux was a lengthy argument I overheard between a customer (a very old man) and an EyeLux clerk.
The old man stated that he could not read with his new EyeLux reading glasses. He wanted new lenses or his money back.
The clerk stated repeatedly: ‘It is not our policy to do that (give refunds). Take the glasses home for a few days and see if they work then.“
The old man said, ‘I can’t read with them. Why should I take them home for several nights and try to read with them? THEY DON’T WORK!“
This went on and on and on. I felt sorry for the old man. Also, the clerk refused to get his boss or one of the doctors to discuss a resolution.
What I took from this is EyeLux is not reputable. Many years ago I had the same problem as the old man (at a different optometrist) and was given a refund — no problems. The EyeLux clerk was a jerk!

Well, I WAS a big fan of Eyelux until I really needed them. But to do what? Stand behind their product offer. My ~$ 500 glasses has some type of blemish within or on the lens coating. Just one lens not both. I brought them in and got little relief for my problem other then «you can have a new eye exam and we can replace the lenses»
They will replace the lenses within 1 year of the purchase — that is the MANUFACTURER’s warranty they are exercising, in this case Verilux, of which I have been using for 25 years .
Yet I expected more. A better customer experience .Why Because this place is not Walmart.
For the premium i paid for these glasses (a bought 2 pair within a 1 month window) I would think there would be more to the offer than this. What did I expect? For them to go out of their way to make something work for me. That did not occur. Am I asking too much? I don’t think so, after paying about $ 1000 for both the frames and lenses I bought .
So why not just go to COSTCO? Seems like a reasonable and rational approach because the after-​sale-​support is about the same.
Like a dope I recommended these folks to many of my friends and acquaintances … well that has just stopped.
Am I telling you don’t use them? No, that would be small of me. Just set your expectations if you have problems AFTER the warranty period to be disappointed
Now where’s that number for Costco or Lens Crafters ?

the REAL hero’s of my mishap listed above is the manufacture of Verilux lenses. That is Essilor Inc. They produce the lenses .
I contacted them and they were willing to assist me. Tnhey actually listened. Eyelux, not so much. They informed me their warranty on lenses is for 2 years. If you recall the Eyelux Optician Assistant told me they (* Eyelux) warranty the glasses for 1 year. So, what’s the deal? If the manufacturer will stand behind the lenses for 2 years, why not the retail outlet (Eyelux). In any case they worked with me and replaced my lenses.
So, my glasses were returned in a reasonable time; I have CONFIDENCE in the lens maker.
And the retailer (Eyelux) well, not so much.

Both my husband and I were seen at this office. (two separate dates-​he went first at the beginning of July and I went on July 24^th)
They have convenient office hours and flexible scheduling. Staff is courteous and Dr. Chou gave us good explanations of our eye conditions. When I was choosing new frames, the optical staff member helped break down my out of pocket costs and what our insurance would cover. It’s been 5 years since I last got new frames, and with our new insurance coverage, she was patient with me and itemized the costs. Overall it was a good experience and we will be coming back again.

The service was excellent and I highly recommend this place to anyone in the 4S/​RB area. I will definitely be back.

This a review long over due…
My first visit was with Dr. Nguyen back when they were still in RB. I was very impressed with her and just how professional and educated she is. She also explained things thoroughly and in terms I could understand.
When I found out that they moved to this new place, I was beyond happy cause it’s so much closer to my house.
The environment is clean, well maintained and they have state of the art equipment. They also have a good selection of eye wear. The prices are a little bit more than I would like but that’s because they are brand names.
The staff is friendly and knowledgable with insurance. Ingrid was very helpful when I needed to see a Doctor last minute. I have seen Dr Michaels twice and she’s been great both times. She checked my eyes throughly and gave me great advice on how to take care of my injured eye.

My second visit to EyeLux was as good as the first. A friendly technician put my eyes through a battery of tests (for glaucoma, peripheral vision, etc.), and then Dr. Chou worked to get exactly the right prescriptions for both contact lenses and glasses.
The doctor is a specialist in a condition called keratoconus that affects my eyes, causing astigmatism. He has been able to fit me with hybrid contact lenses, the central portion of which substitute a smooth surface for the bumpy eyeballs that result from keratoconus. As a result, my vision with the contact lenses is far superior to anything that eyeglasses can produce.
The office is perhaps the most pleasant office I have visited. It is airy and beautiful, with large light sculptures hanging from the ceiling.
I look forward to my appointments with EyeLux and really like the results they produce.

I’m not normally a fan of the eye doctor, but this place is great. They take the time to explain everything — which is so nice. The also show you really cool pictures of your eyes (kind of gross and neat all at the same time).
The staff is awesome, and the office is clean. They also have a great selection of glasses and sunglasses.

The office has a wide selection of frames and sunglasses. They carry Kate Spade, Vera Wang, and Oakley to name a few. I always opt for the ciba contacts :)

Great optometrist office. Friendly staff, clean and modern office, convenient hours, and barely any wait. Dr. Chou was really honest with us and said that since we are young, coming every other year is enough (instead of the recommended annual visit). I appreciate his honesty in doing right by his patients.
Another benefit of the office… after LASIK, some vision plans allow you to use the frames allowance for sunglasses, instead of prescription glasses. This is a great benefit to get reimbursed for trendy, designer sunglasses. However, you have to buy the glasses through an in-​network provider, which usually means only optometrist offices. (You can’t take the money to use to buy sunglasses at Sunglass Hut or something.) As you may guess, offices mark up frames by a lot more than the normal retail store, so it becomes really hard to find sunglasses that fall into your allowance. EyeLux may be one of the few places that has good selection and somewhat reasonable prices. Plus, they also do a price match, so we were able to show them how much a pair would go at a retail store. They matched it, allowing us to buy the sunglasses under our plan and not exceed our allowance.

I know what I’m talking about…
I’ve worn eyeglasses since second grade.
In 5^th grade, my optometrist told my dad to get me contacts because if the house burned down I wouldn’t be able to find my way out without my glasses.
Finally ditched the coke-​glasses and got gas permeable contacts in high school after begging for them.
Then, in 2006, I got life-​changing LASIK — wow. AMAZING. Simply the BEST gift I’ve every given myself. (See my review on Caster Laser Center) I often tell people to JUST DO IT if they are a candidate. ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision after a lifetime of terrible eyesight, heavy glasses that fog up at every time I sweat?
Now I was informed that the ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision will decline by mid-40’s, so I’m aware that eventually I’ll need glasses again. Of course, I hope my LASIK holds for a looooong time, and so far, so good.
Currently, my vision isn’t as «razor sharp» as before, though I see perfectly fine. I first noticed it during pregnancy and then, well, I was lazy and just put it off… because I had such great vision I was naughty and hadn’t gotten an eye exam since 2008 thinking my vision was great, so what’s to examine? Yikes. Deplorable! Not a good idea to skip the annual eye exam! Back to Dr. Le…
State of the art technology here. Lovely staff who were on top of my insurance benefits. Dr. Le was so thorough; She patiently explained all the aspects she was examining. So she’s super proactive in helping patients advocate for their own health by empowering us with knowledge. I learned a lot during this exam. Turns out, I absolutely need to be seen regularly due to family history and some suspicious optic results.
My LASIK is holding and I can see just fine, but Dr Le determined that my my left eye slipped to ²⁰⁄₂₅. She gave me options if I want a teeeny prescription to get that addictive crystal sharp vision again. (Yes, please!)
So I opted to get transition glasses and prescription sunglasses. BOY. I love them! She warned me I might start wearing them all the time because it sharpens my vision, and yes, she was right. (no, wearing this tiny prescription won’t mess up my vision. Neither will not wearing the prescriptions. Just sharpens what I see…)
Ashley helped me pick out the perfect pairs… she was also very patient, listened to what I liked and had some awesome suggestions for me that I loved. She even adjusted all my current sunglasses and glasses I brought to compare what I already had so I could get something different. (so now none of my sunglasses are crooked. LOL) Now that’s customer service.
Eyelux has a huge selection of high-​end luxury brand eyewear (Kate Spade, Michael Kors, etc.) and some well-​priced options too! I am very happy with the service and the products.
