During my career I have had the opportunity to work closely with Dave at Fortunate Fields with referring clients. This review is long due. I have had Dave taking care of my taxes for the last three or four years. He is knowledgeable, very approachable, and an extremely kind person. The office has a positive vibe and I am actually happy to come in and talk about taxes, imagine! He gives you peace of mind, which is exactly why people go to a tax accountant. Ah, and he is very responsive by email. Ok, my taxes may not be very complicated, but besides this «disclaimer», I couldn’t be happier with Dave. Highly recommended.

Dave is great. Helped me out with a crazy situation, helped me make sense of it and his rate is very reasonable. It turned out I owed back taxes and it could have been a lot worse without Dave’s expertise. I recommend him highly.

I came here to be a «new» client for personal and business taxes. And I went to meet Dave for first time and did not like the interaction I had with him. After talking to him for 20 – 30 minutes, he seemed unapproachable.
When I asked him for the cost for his services, he stated that he was unable to provide the total or estimated cost. He also stated that «I do not have the actual cost of services for 2015». If that’s the case, I would not hire any accountant, if they can’t give me the cost for their services.
Later, he then gave me a general idea of how he charges. He charges Schedule D $ 10 plus $ 2.00 for each stock transaction/​trade that was made, Schedule E $ 80.00, Schedule A $ 50.00, etc. (and the list goes on). Basically, Dave charges any paper he touches and I think that’s ridiculous! From my meeting, he wanted to charge extra for everything or anything. In the past, I’ve worked with H & R Block and this is worse than H & R Block. I’m sorry Dave, but you probably assumed that I had no experience with personal or business taxes. When in actuality, I’ve been doing business for 15 years!
Good luck for this business. Whoever goes to this guy should re-​think. I prefer to find a accountant who would not squeeze every penny of your hard earned money. It’s a shame. I was looking forward to working with Dave.
From my experience, it’s best to meet with the accountant in person, so you can see what type of person they are, if they are trustworthy, or money hungry.
The only positive part about this meeting was the front desk lady. She was nice and friendly.

Dave is an absolute life saver. I filed my taxes with him and had an outstanding experience. During the time period I filed, my identity was stolen in Florida and used for multiple theft acts! Dave was the FIRST to actually catch what happened and literally saved my life. Little did I know I had more than five credit cards activated in my name. He went the extra mile to accommodate me and save my life in this hectic situation. His office is super cute and his receptionist is very sweet and greets you with your personal name displayed on the desk. This is a great quality over quantity experience

I read so many great reviews on Unilocal about Dave that I had to check him out for myself. I am in the military and I normally have my taxes done on base for free, but I wanted to have a processional do them this time around. I called and easily made an appointment with Dave. The location was easy to find and the I felt so comfortable and welcomed once inside. I was greeted by calm colors, beautiful art, a typed «welcome Shaakirah «sign and water to drink. We were even offered free quarters for the meter. Dave was quick, knowledgeable and very professional and his price was reasonable. I was very pleased with his service and I plan to return next year.

I’ve done my tax return with Dave for one year only and was not impressed. I think he is great for simple tax returns but I was not impressed with his knowledge of various deductibles and rules. I did not use him again.

I had been stationed overseas and was not able to complete my taxes by the normal deadline so in October, we sat down and he reassured me that even though I was late, I was still ok and IRS wouldn’t be knocking down my door.
My paperwork was very straight to the point and for some unknown reason, I had been unable to complete it online so Dave made a phone call to make a couple of inquiries and even though the wait was over an hour long to get ahold of somebody, he did not charge me for the extra hour which I am very grateful for. He was also able to explain to me what had likely caused the problem of why I couldn’t do my taxes online and gave me advice on what I could do next time if this issue happened again. He obviously knows his stuff!
His fee was reasonable but what made the experience such an awesome one was just how genuine Dave was. He is such a great person and just one of those people that you automatically like being around and this is very easy to see.
I have now received my taxes and even though I don’t see any foreseeable reasons on why I would need to go back to his office, if I ever do need help with my taxes again, I will definitely be coming back here.

Do not do business with Fortunate Fields! My wife and I have been coming here and working with Dave for many years, recently we decided to have our taxes performed with another business. What we found was astonishing, Dave had missed large tax breaks that we have been losing out on throughout the years. We had initially thought he was doing his due diligence but found that large tax breaks were missed. We are very unhappy with how he has missed such blatant tax incentives and breaks.
We found Dave initially through Unilocal with his positive reviews, however we will not be returning our business to him. A word of advice, have a second opinion before committing to Dave.

Dave Yoshida is a tax guru. Professional, understanding, and accommodating, Dave is the man with the plan when it comes to crunching numbers. After 3 years, if Dave wasn’t doing my taxes… Well, someone else would be… But still that would be very disappointing. Speaking of 3, there are 3 guarantees in life: death, taxes, and Dave to do such taxes!

After doing my taxes for years using TurboTax Online, I decided to get some professional advice on tax situations I was not familiar with (tax implications for a online business & working from home).
I appreciated Dave’s prompt communication; I heard from him several hours after I submitted my contact form. He was very patient in wading through my previous tax documents and understanding our family’s tax situation. He then took the time to explain in layman’s terms, my options with the various tax situations I was in. Dave came across as very well versed in tax code and was able to explain it to me in a way that I understood.
I was able to make some decisions about my tax situation with his advice; Dave explained to me that with the route I chose, I could finish my taxes myself, or I could pay him to do it for me, no pressure. I appreciated the honesty, and the refreshing generosity of doing a consult with no obligation to engage in his services.
I referred a couple folks to Dave’s way, and will be back if my situation ever requires it! Thanks Dave!

What a wonderful experience. My husband and I just moved to San Diego. With the overturn of DOMA, we could amend our 2012 Fed Tax Return and get refunded all the imputed tax we paid and we could now file as a married couple. I had no idea where to begin in doing this. Dave understood everything, quickly and professionally did our amended return at a very reasonable rate, AND he was incredibly personable and nice in the process. I immediately had the utmost confidence in his skills. He even got all the little touches of impeccable customer service, down to providing us an addressed envelope to mail the return into the IRS. I could not recommend him enough!

It’s a bit sad when getting the great service I received from Fortunate Fields and Dave Yoshida was a pleasant surprise rather than the norm. Any outfit dealing with customers should be striving to match the great customer service Dave and his team provide.
I scheduled an appointment with Dave based on the prior Unilocal reviews because I needed assistance on part of my personal income tax that was complicated. Dave’s assistant greeted me at the door and asked if I’d like a refreshment. She put me right at ease despite my financial anxiety.
Dave was friendly and patiently and clearly explained how my tax situation worked out and why certain parts of my income were taxable or not. He certainly knows his stuff about the US Tax Code, and he can navigate even the most complex of financial docs with ease.
The final bill for his services was also a surprise, as it was much MUCH more reasonable than some of the bigger «box store» tax chains. I’m not at LIBERTY to say How & wheRe I found the competing prices, but they’re the ones around the BLOCK. Regardless, Dave and Fortunate Fields were much more reasonably priced.
If you need help figuring out your taxes, I would highly recommend Dave Yoshida and his team. I wanted to write this in part to let people know that the reviews ain’t fake or bought; Fortunate Fields is the real thing!

Dave is amazing. It was easy to get ahold of him via phone, schedule an appointment, and file my taxes smoothly and quickly. When I arrived for my appointment, he was very nice and patient. He explained everything to me in comprehensible terms (I was filing as an individual). He helped me get the most back as possible on my federal/​state taxes. Wow. I am really happy with the amount that he has determined for me. His fee for filing is reasonable, too. Because I filed today, 2/​23, he gave me a 10% early filing discount. :) I highly recommend Dave at Fortunate Fields! I plan to use his services again next year.

Over the past 3 years I have worked diligently to reconstruct my financial situation after it took a turn for the worst in the real estate crash. The last piece to rebuilding my finances was the filing of several past year’s tax returns. Dave took the time to understand my situation and in a very professional manner helped me get back on track. Since meeting with Dave, not only am I current on all delinquent taxes but I have a great outline for what I must do in the future. I would recommend Dave to any friend or business owner alike. Dave is amazing! I found myself in a nightmarish situation due to the mistakes of my former tax preparer. I was being audited for 2 years’ tax returns! The IRS was saying I owed them several thousand $$ – yikes!
Dave handled the situation with professionalism and expertise. His efficient process of gathering the information and guiding me through the preparation made it all as simple as possible. Dave’s approach and skill resulted in a zero change audit – meaning, I owed nothing! Yay to Dave!
