Gelato Vero Caffe

I wanted to have a place to go that is open late. This seems to be the spot for the most weirdest hours and for me a Sunday night between nine and midnight this leaves me feeling content. I like the sound of the freeway and people watching so this for me will be a regular spot. My wife joined me. And she thought it was nice as well.
I have the raspberry gelato very nice flavor and an Expresso to complete the match.
The best part about this was that the seating outside and this was the icing on the cake

There’s alot of great gelato places in San Diego with their own style and this place has a style that never disappoints. Plenty of flavors and gelato that’s got a nice smooth texture that never gives you that bloated feeling after. I recommend this place for those looking for those looking for a little dessert or a treat on a hot day.

Great coffee, gelato & baked Danishes. Little corner spot with a small patio. We alway get our treats to go. They do a gelato & coffee mixture that is amazing. It takes me back to Italy. Rise & shine morning peeps & enjoy this spot.

One of the best gelato’s I’ve had so far. Chocolate hazelnut is a must try. Good place to go to after your burrito.

Review is only for pistachio gelato I got which was very delicious and creamy. No complaints there. $ 5 for 2 scoops, not cheap but expected!
The customer service could have been better, the lady at the counter was a little rude with her tone, but it can be overlooked since I was only there for the gelato~

Grabbed a quick home brew coffee from this place to go, to cool off on a scorching hot San Diego summer day. The cold brew was smooth, dark and was very three-​dimensional. There was a lot of depth of flavor to this coffee. Definitely want to come back to try the ice cream next time!

Not many people know this but this place is small, however, if you go upstairs you can use the bathroom and enjoy a wonderful view. I believe that there is free Wi-​Fi too. Gelato is very good. I have tried all the flavors and I love them all. Service is great too. I never been treated rudely at all. Great place to hangout inside, outside or upstairs.

Only a few blocks away from this place and it can be dangerous. Addicted to the cookies and cream and the pistachio gelato. The coffee cake is amazing as well. But nothing goes better with good dessert than amazing service.

I was looking for a nearby bakery and stumbled upon this place! Their gelato selection might be few but their quality of gelato is on point. I had a chance to try their coffee gelato and it was packed with so much flavor. They also have very friendly staff!

I had chocolate hazelnut, spumoni and coffee bean.
It was average. I have had better chocolate hazelnut.
It was pretty pricy too.

Pistachio and Tiramisù have been my absolute favorite flavor combination here. I sampled a lot of their gelatos and each one tasted just as good as the next. They use fresh ingredients to infuse the utmost flavor and richness into their ice creams. They make some of the best gelato I’ve ever tasted and I’ve had my share of gelato in Europe, trust.
It’s a pretty small place but there’s several tables inside and a few outside as well. For the most part, I saw a lot of people just standing around on the sidewalk enjoying their desserts!
*You can order a small (which is actually quite a lot of gelato because they pack it on good!) and order 2 half scoops of different flavors.
*Server is super nice and usually lets you sample as many gelato as you want.

Cute place really close to Lucha Libre Tacos, which is why we came! The exterior of this quaint little gelato place really roped us in. The gelato is homemade — I tried a small size of the espresso bean and the hazelnut/​Nutella flavor. It was tasty, though just having visited Rome, I found the flavor a little lacking. I wish we could have checked out the upstairs seating area, but we didn’t have any time. Parking was pretty hard to find around this area, and it’s right on the corner of a really busy intersection.

Quaint little coffee shop with great gelato. A bit of road noise upstairs but relaxing. Wifi was spotty. Good place to hang for an hour but not comfortable enough to work for longer. Cool local casual feel.

Gelato Vero is on the corner of the intersection. Parking is anywhere curbside for a two-​blcok radius. The open sign was in the shop window on the side with the 2-​person tables, but the red painted steel bars over the door made me hesitate to open it. But I wanted gelato, so I opened the door and stepped into a narrow walkway to the display glass counter. The staff was friendly. I said this was my first time here, the staff made a few recommendations of gelato and coffee. I selected a blender of Tahitian Vanilla and Espresso. And a lava cake. The blended gelato and lava cake were delicious.
Seating inside was not so good. Four tables, two 2-​person seaters, one 4-​person seater and one 3-​person seater. There was not alot of room in the inside area. Bring a jacket if you sit outside.
Not a bad place for dessert after dinner. I shall return.

This is the best study place ever. I’ve only been here once. But damn that up stairs area in the middle of the night is an awesome place to study. The service was great. My bro really enjoyed his hot chocolate and I got some study done with the use of their awesome wifi. If I lived in SD this would be my go to study spot.

I go here weekly, or maybe even a few times a week. I appreciate its late hours! The staff is always inviting and helpful when I can’t decide what to order.
I always come here to study because there’s a nice, quiet upstairs seating area. The view from there is beautiful. I just feel at ease in this restaurant, it’s nice and private. Don’t bring big groups here. :)
The Gelato Vero Chai is usually what I get, however, sometimes it’s a bit too spicy for my liking. The pistachio baklava is also super good.

As soon as you open the door, you are met with the scent of freshly ground coffee and the urban downtown vibes of this great little café. The baristas are as friendly and unique as the café they operate.
I tried the Mexican mocha I would definitely recommend this place

Gelato Vero is a cheeky little shop with great customer service. From the original art works of one of their former employees to the sarcastic entertaining funny baristas this place it’s truly one of a kind!

Excellent coffee, and they even have a cute «Extra-​small» size if you’re not quite feeling like having 12 ounces. People who work here are super nice too! So great to find a place like this in the neighborhood

Spumoni gelato was nom nom nom. Maple walnut was nom nom. Well priced for delicious in-​house desserts. Coffee came out quick. Macchiato was a real macchiato, none of that Starbucks milkshake stuff. Perfect way to top off after tacos across the street.

I was in the area, craving the best part of any meal (dessert!!) and Unilocal guided me to this gelato place. At first glance, you would probably miss it because it’s relatively small… it’s a hole in the wall type of place. There’s metered parking along the road but there aren’t many… so you’ll be lucky to find one. The interior is pretty run down and could be remodeled.
When we walked in, we were greeted with staff who didn’t care to be there. We asked for samples of the gelato and she seemed annoyed. She also wore a constant RBF… she could’ve at least faked a smile here and there. Terrible customer service.
They have interesting flavors of gelato, but I ended up getting the pistachio gelato which was quite delightful. The gelato was smooth and creamy. They also don’t gyp you off from the whole pistachios as there’s a decent amount in there. The only complaint I have here is how expensive it is… it’s $ 0.67 per ounce.
Overall, I’m glad I tried this place. The pistachio gelato was good and if I were to have rated this place based on the pistachio gelato, it would’ve been a 4. However, I don’t think I’ll be returning anytime soon due to the price, location, and horrible customer service.

We always have a wonderful experience here. The coffee is delightful and the gelato is life-​changing! If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out!

Cute little Gelato place to stop by on your way to or from the beach.
Don’t be surprised if they don’t have your flavor on your next visit. They vary through seasons.
I was excited they had Coconut… and it was really good.

I have something to admit. I lived in Europe for a few years and this was my first gelato experience ever. My wife was actually ashamed of me. I’m not much of a sweets guy, and rarely do I eat ice cream… but Gelato… Gelato has my heart. I currently write this being months away from ever being able to eat Gelato and I’m truly saddened. I’m actually kinda poopie that I have only been here once and I live around the block. Well Vero, no more. I will see you as soon as I get back in town. MMMMMMMM Gelato…

We entered through an iron gated door and immediately felt sandwiched between the shop counter and the wall. There isn’t too much wiggle room. I’d hate to be in this place when it gets packed. There is a small oddly decorated indoor seating area, but you also have the option to sit outside with a clear view of the rush hour traffic.
They offer a variety of gelato flavors. A little pricey for the amount you get but their gelato is very creamy and flavorful. For the large cup (purple) you can get up to 3 flavors. I suggest getting 2 because the third one gets buried at the bottom and will lose it’s true flavor due to the other 2 on top.
Flavors:
Pistachio: If you love pistachio flavored desserts you will not be disappointed. This is by far my favorite flavor here. There were a good amount of whole pistachio in every scope.
Espresso: Very creamy and a good balance of coffee flavor. It wasn’t too overwhelming. Definitely a must have for every coffee lover.
Spumoni: Vanilla, chocolate chips, cherry garcia. Need I say more.
Strawberry: Not a big strawberry fan but this was good. I won’t be ordering it again.
Tahitian Vanilla: This gelato was made with Tahitian vanilla bean hence the name. This was the best vanilla I’ve ever had, whether it be ice cream, froyo, or gelato. You won’t find any imitation flavor here.
Tiramisu: I wasn’t a big fan of this one. It had chunks of pound cake? in it and was a little too sweet for me.
So far this is the best Gelato place I’ve been to in San Diego. Unfortunately parking is horrible.

This is a great place to get desserts (coffee, gelato) especially after a late dinner since they are open till midnight or later on any given day. Street parking can be a hassle sometimes (mostly due to lucha libre across the street) but it’s not too bad on most nights. I’ve been here several times and have never had a bad experience. Most recently, I got the affogato with a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of cookies&cream. Sitting in the outdoor-​patio area and enjoying the dessert was very relaxing, although it can get a bit noisy since a lot of cars travel on india street as well as washington street.
The only issue I have is how tiny the entrance/​ordering area is, and it can get a bit crowded. But I guess that’s the caffe’s charm in a way.
If you are ever in the area and in the mood for some coffee or gelato, definitely check this place out.

This is the best gelato I’ve tried! :o The gelato is nice and rich, but not too strong that it’s too sweet. It’s also thick enough that when I scooped a bite to eat, it pulled away kind of like melted cheese. You can get more than one flavor it a cup. The smallest cup, it’s best to get max two flavors.

Shockingly good gelato. I was disappointed upon walking in because of the lackluster gelato case display and fewer than expected options. But one sample after another I was surprised by the quality of each flavor!
They charge by weight so it can get a little pricey ($ 10 for two medium size cups, 3 flavors each). My favorites were tiramisu and pistachio. Good balance between the gelato base and mixins for both!
Love how close it is to the airport. Stop by before taking off to kiss San Diego goodbye! Perfect way to end the perfect trip.

I’ve had way better gelato. The portions are really small– and they weigh them all.
It’s a little over $ 5.00 for two small scoops. They have very limited flavors; I think they only had about 7?
Drive a little further into Little Italy for a wider variety, bigger portions, and overall better experience.

Came here for dessert on a weeknight around 8pm… Not busy, but there were several other customers here as well.
Walking in, I was a little disappointed because I expected more with all the high reviews… Their pastry display was very bleak and empty with just a few items to choose from (cheesecake, carrot cake, lava cake, baklava, coffee cake)… Behind the display, you can see through the other side… So while looking at my options. I also saw a plate with a half eaten muffin and something wrapped in foil.
They have a limited selection of gelato… Ultimately, I ordered their chocolate hazelnut while the husband ordered cookies and cream. The gelato was good. Nice creamy smooth texture. True flavors. Very satisfying. Oh yea, I have to mention though, that I did try a sample of their tiramisu flavor, and I didn’t really taste anything.
I also tried their lava cake which was heated up. I don’t often have lava cake, so I don’t have much to compare it to. But it’s definitely a chocolatey rich dessert. Super duper moist with good bites of the baked chocolate cake shell. The «lava» was pretty much saturated into the cake and not necessarily a separate component. Very decadent. It was warmed for me, but nothing special was done as far as presentation is concerned. I wanted it warmed so I can taste it, but wasn’t sure if I’d be able to finish it, so they put it in a paper cup after warming it.
I had this place bookmarked, so I’m glad I was able to try it… The gelato I had was tasty, as well as the lava cake… There is a small area with a couple small tables which is cute and quaint. But overall I wish there was more presentation. More customer service… And more options…

I know it’s late and you’re going to close soon but please have some decency and treat your customers with some amount of respect.
It was my first time here last night for a friend’s birthday and when we first walked in we weren’t greeted, just stared down upon. After trying the Gelato, I thought «hey this place is pretty good.»
When we’re about to leave we asked the employee if she could take a picture for us and she hesitated to say yes. After she put her things down she asked up «can’t you just use the mirror?» I was baffled how rude she was. I mean if you didn’t want to take a picture for us you could just kindly say no and that you were busy.
If you decide to go here regardless of the service, I recommend vanilla!

Came here after my last big cheat meal at Blue Water seafood.
Was thinking about gelato but really wanted their crack chocolate chip coffee cake. It’s seriously, like a for real addiction food. Just ordered the crack coffee cake, never disappoints.
Just had a few bites and gave it to my coworker the next day so her daughter could have it.

I’d give this place 3.5 stars, and rounding it up to 4.
I came here with my roommate after a Lucha Libre run (it’s right across the street) and we were both first timers here. The café itself is really small, which made it difficult to line up as the line had to snake around, but by doing so it blocked the walking area.
Nevertheless, there was a wide variety of gelato flavours available ranging from their holiday pumpkin, to hazelnut chocolate, a pistachio, and finally to mocha rum crunch, which we decided to get. I have to admit, the gelatos on display looked pretty melted and not that appetizing. Nevertheless, the mocha rum crunch gelato was AMAZING. The gelato didn’t have the normal thick, creamy texture and appeared to be more like ice cream, but the flavour was delicious! I think the name is a perfect representation because it’s sweet, with a kick of coffee, and you can totally taste the rum accent; then to top it all off is a nice crunch– not a stale crunch that you often get from things that are frozen.
I think the price there was $ 0.60/oz? I don’t quite remember so don’t quote me on that, but I just remember it was a little pricey. The workers there were really kind and let us sample a lot of different flavours as well.
