We stayed at the Hilton for a few days not knowing anything about the Giavara brothers or the tennis facility at the Hilton. To my surprise, the Hilton had 5 lighted courts AND the Giavara brothers running lessons and clinics in the property. I setup a lesson for my 17 year old daughter with Jason. Jason, or Jay, was absolutely fantastic. He was motivational, energetic, professional, and a great coach in general. We setup 3 lessons with Jay and each day was just as good as the previous. He really came off showing that he cared about improving my daughter’s game. I have NEVER seen such enthusiasm in a coach in the 6 coaches my daughter worked with over 10 years! Superb coaching. Superb coaching style. I wish she could work with him longer. The commute from San Jose to San Diego would be a little much! If we are EVER back in San Diego she will definitely be back. I spoke to Jay’s brother, Ken, briefly, and he was very helpful offering advice for college recruiting and even offered some contact info for some local schools. These guys are really awesome. That’s my honest opinion in the 3 days we were out here. I’m a little sad to leave so soon.

The Giavara Tennis Academy at the Mission Bay Hilton is one of the best kept secrets in San Diego. Ken helped my son become a regional champion and also assisted him in getting fantastic college placement. Over the years I have watched Ken and his brother Jason take their students from beginners to college players. He answers every phone and text from his students and makes sure he is always available to talk them through difficult times and challenges on and off the court. He stays with his students for life. I see so many former students coming back to him from college. He cares about each and every one of them and they know it! I once overheard him asking a college student what his grades were like. He always reminds them of the importance of education, and of navigating both college sports and academics. He has renowned speakers and college coaches talk to and recruit many of his students. Barnes Tennis Center may have the facility but don’t have the heart that Giavara Tennis Academy does!

I discovered the Giavara Tennis Academy last year. My son has improved tremendously with a combination of clinics and private lessons. Ken teaches some of the best young players in San Diego from 9 to 20 and beyond. Both Ken and his brother Jason give private lessons. Before my son went to Barnes Tennis center but the High Performance clinic was not very effective in teaching him very much. Because of his success in teaching tennis I believe this is the best tennis instruction in San Diego. His brother Jason teaches also and focuses on older players plus young ones too. Many of the students he coaches go on to receive college scholarships Please look at the website Giavara Tennis Academy
