Go Car Tours

My son and had a ton of fun!!! It was a little scary driving in downtown but not too bad because there are a lot of stop lights that help keep traffic safe. We had a City Go Pass and decided to try this out. It was a great way to explore downtown and the harbor!!! Carlos was awesome. He put me at ease before we headed out on the rode. This was a great adventure!

Had a blast riding around town in these little yellow cars. Although I saw my life flash right before my eyes as I almost go ran over by a huge monster truck it was a lovely Saturday afternoon. Cars are pretty tight and small but its a blast driving around in one of these. The folks over at Go Cars Tours made the process of renting a go car easy & simple.
A note on the car: Hopefully these cars get updated soon as you can smell all the fumes/​smoke coming out of these cars which is probably not the best for us to be breathing but maybe in the future they will be electric and we don’t have to inhale all the smoke coming from this car.

Great fun! Very unique way to see the city and explore. You are only limited by how long you want to keep driving around. So if you want to stop and check out sites, you can just park and explore everything you find. Jenni was very friendly and helpful and made the experience a lot of fun. Totally would do this again!

I found GoCar Tours on groupon and decided it would be a great way to spend the day with a friend. Making the reservations was easy and we looked forward to the experience. When we arrived and watched the video we noticed another couple sitting in the go car and then getting out to change cars. We were then given that car and headed out. Immediately we noticed the GPS doesn’t work (GPS gives directions and well as description and details of what you are going by) as well as the horn (also important in a tiny car). We had to return to the lot and asked for another car. I guess this was the first time they had been told this! Really?! Next car also had issuesGPS also didn’t work as well as the gas gauge and speed odometer. The car lot said our purses must have magnets and that was causing the GPS to not work. Reading past Unilocal I found that this has already happened before.
Besides these inconveniences we had an awesome time. It’s so much fun, but please update the GPS and fix the problems GoCar!

This was so much fun! What an awesome way to see the city, and really go on an adventure! Staff was super friendly and helpful, and the whole thing was so laid-​back and a total blast. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting San Diego, or locals looking for something fun and different to do!

VERY fun. Seems sketchy at first with the whole signing of waivers and things. But it’s not! Absolutely hilarious the whole time. Jaime and the guys at go car are very funny and super nice and laid back about getting you setup. Oh and definitely go to Balboa park!

BEST PART OF OUR TRIP!!! Just don’t die. Going through rush hour SD traffic was like scary daredevil stuff. But we all lived and we annoyed lots of people with our high volume tour guide telling us where to go. Visited Old Town, Down town, Gaslight, Balboa Park. Will do it again. Guys at rental place were nice. The cars are actually motorcycles, so if you’ve driven one, you are good, No shifting needed, just throttle and brakes. Other driver only issue.

Went again and took my wife this time. We had a fun day, but unfortunately our cars GPS stopped working. I called the company and they had a guy bring a replacement within 15 minutes. The next cars GPS worked, but the mph and fuel gauge didn’t work. I had to estimate how fast I was going, and since we opted for the all day trip, I was sweating that we were going to run out of gas. I would still definitely recommend doing this, but they just need to maintain the vehicles better.

Had so much fun, this was the best experience I’ve ever had. Also very easy to drive and the gps was awesome and the price was affordable!

This was not a fun experience. The Go Car felt very cheap and was very loud. Had to turn the volume up loud to hear the GPS. There is no reverse, so we had to Flintstone with one leg to push the car to turn around. You feel every bump and pothole, and it feels like it will break apart. You can’t relax and enjoy the tour because of all the traffic you are caught in. It doesn’t feel safe driving this little flimsy thing alongside cars and trucks. We had planned to do 2 hours but returned after only doing 1 hour. Skip it.

In all honesty this was the most complicated matter I have ever with any sort of company. It seems completely unorganized! I don’t think we should even be charged a cancellation fee seeing that you didn’t have our reservation to begin with and they charged my card already and claimed they had no reservation! Oh and goodluck with finding parking if you want to take a tour for more than 1 hour!

We came to check out renting go cars the day before and the guy working didn’t tell us to make reservations for next day. We arrive the next day and because we didn’t have reservations we were made to wait until all people with reservations were taken care of first. Not to mention the damn place is hot with no AC! Had to wait 30 min to do all paperwork!

I can’t wait to go again! I have lived in San Diego all my life and there is still so much I don’t know about the history. I do agree that the GPS could have more information but it is still the best way to get to know the city. My husband and I love seeing the buildings and sights from a different view. We saw many new details in the buildings and city sights that we had not seen in our car. Customer service was top notch! I will be recommending this to everyone I know. Tons of fun! Some people said they could not hear the voice guidance I had to turn it down. If you have a bad back this may not be the tour for you. You feel the bumps. Hope this company will expand to other cities so I can take a Go Car in other cities.

Loved the GoCars! We went on Sunday afternoon and it was the perfect way to spend the last day of our vacation. Staff was very very helpful to us!
We saw so many beautiful sights, definitely do this at least once!

Done this Tour twice in the last 2 years. Recently just a couple days ago. My out of state friend and I had a blast! If you are looking to tour the areas: Gaslamp, Balboa Park, Old Town and Point Loma, this tours has them all! The only thing that I would have loved, an updated version of the GPS information. It states that some things such as the library being under construction and other tidbits that need a little updating. The trunk is a little fidgety to open/​close and lock valuables.
I always have great customer service with Roger, I can sit and talk with him for hours! CJ was very nice and courteous as well. Thank you for the great time!

Hilarious and fun. I would definitely go again. My wife and I went this weekend (nov 15^th) on a one hour tour of the harbor and downtown san diego. The car ran great and was easy to drive after a minute of getting used to the brakes.
We had to cut the tour short to make it back before the 1 hr mark though. You have the option of extending your 1hr tour to 2 hours while on the tour.
I would have given this place 5 stars but the audio tour was outdated and could have been more informative. It references Croces and other places that have been closed for almost a year. Randomly, it gives adult shop information on the amount of adult shops in downtown including pointing one out on the tour. I understand the relevance since downtown San Diego used to be called the Stingaree and was more derelict, but it was kind of weird. The tour also mentions the Vons brick building for no apparent reason. San Diego has a lot of history on 5^th avenue. The audio shouldn’t need «filler» spots. (These are just constructive comments for the management and shouldn’t deter consumers from doing the tour. The tour is informational for sure.)
Aside from the above audio tour points, I would recommend going on the gocar tour. It’s a really fun time and we had a blast.

Visited SD in 2013 and thought this would be a kool experience. It was not… it was SCARY.
GPS is not loud enough to overcome all noise around you. Especially with the vehicle noise. Car shakes. Miss a turn and GPS goes off. You get lost (a visitor like me) and end up in an area with inclines and the car is too weak to make it. Yes I was warned, but I’m not a local and when you get lost you’re lost. Trucks with tires the size of the gocar zooms past me since I was in main stream traffic. Feared for the life and safety of my passenger and I.
BUMPY…and the gocar was made of what I felt was fiberglass. Cracking just waiting to happen.
Try at your own risk (or peril). I’ll never do it again.

Definitely a GREAT way to take in the city.
The first time I did this tour was in San Francisco then I did it in San Diego that same year. Now I’ve done the tour in both cities a few times each. There are multiple routes you can take and on each route, there is a history of the section of town your in.
Basically you are driving a three wheeled car but with the controls of a motorcycle (minus the gear shifting). There’s a GPS system attached to the car and when you come across a historic or architecturally significant section of town, a voice comes over the radio detailing interesting and fun facts about the area, stores or buildings as you pass them. So not only is it fun, but you get to learn some really interesting facts that you might not have otherwise been able to have the privilege of learning.
Along the route, you are presented with directional options that you can take. They even allow you to park in certain areas along the route for free and take a walking tour (e.g. — Park and tour a Huge Navy Ship at the wharf).
I highly recommend Go Car tours. If I’m ever in San Diego or San Francisco with a someone who’s never done it, I definitely make it a point to go. It’s always a big highlight of the trip!

I’m a San Diego native and this is hands down, one of the most fun activities I have done in San Diego! I was satisfied with my overall experience at go car tours. I heard about this place when one of my friends posted a video/​pic on Instagram on the go car. My friend and I had the Saturday off and decided to give it a try. The lady at the front desk was extremely welcoming and the owner even came out to personally greet us! We watched a video on how to operate the go car and the other worker showed us again how to drive the go cars. Those bad boys went a speedy 30mph! Haha which I didn’t mind, my friend and I were laughing the entire two hours when we were on the road. We didn’t need to use the gps since we were familiar with SD. The experience definitely allowed us to enjoy the gorgeous San Diego weather while cruising downtown, it really reinforced how beautiful this city is.
We decided to visit harbor island, the view was stunning. We gained a lot of attention riding the go cars, and we just smiled and wave. People always waved back, which made it even more fun.
It was worth it and tons of fun. I recommend anyone to give this a try.

Although it was fun for the most part and I honestly would give it 3 stars rather than 4 but since the guy who helped us out was so courteous, I will bump it up to 4. The go carts weren’t as fast as they said they would be. Well they’re not fast to begin with, but I felt like it never reached the maximum of 30mph unless we were heading downhill. I couldn’t help but laugh every time we tried to go uphill and we were causing serious traffic. Of course we would drive closer to the side to let oncoming traffic move pass us.
We chose to explore the Point Loma area with the beaches. There were amazing views. The GPS was kind of a fail though. She only spoke when she felt like it, so we got lost a couple of times because we didn’t know which route she wanted to go on, I guess that’s why there was a map. The map would help also if the lines weren’t literally drawn on the street names causing it to not be visible at all.
But all of that put aside, it was a pretty cool experience. Got to see places I never even knew existed in San Diego, which was pretty awesome.
