Horrible customer service I would not recommend spending your hard earned money at this establishment not even to buy a 25cent piece of gum but other than that the place is nice big time over priced but that’s expected.

These guys are ignorant weirdos. I’m a neighborhood regular, I’m here 3 – 4 times a week and in my mid-​30s. They ALWAYS make me show ID. I get that they have to be careful, but I’m no Liam Hemsworth; it’s pretty obvious I’m not under 21. Also, it’s the same three guys every time I go in. I don’t need them to fluff me, but can you seriously not remember a consistent repeat customer. The selection is decent, but the staff ruins it every time. If they weren’t so close, and I wasn’t such a functional alcoholic, I’d never go here.

I have lived in the neighborhood for about 4 months now. Every morning, before work I visit the local Starbucks (which is located across the street). I usually find parking for Starbucks and walk right in. I refuse to use a small businesses parking lot if I am not a customer there… because… well… it’s their parking lot! HAHA. This morning there was absolutely no parking, so I decided to ask the owner of this store if I can park for a moment to grab my morning Joe. Ali (the morning employee or owner, I couldn’t tell) with a smile said yes, then thanked me for having the courtesy to ask! On my way out, I realized I was in one of the nicest liquor stores I have ever walked into. I don’t know what took me so long to discover this place. AND THEIR BEER SELECTION WAS INCREDIBLE!!! They had beers and wine I can’t even find at BevMo! Make your way to Golden Hill Liquor and you will be glad you did.

Love this place! While it may be more expensive than chain grocery stores, the convenience factor cannot be beat. I happen to love every employee here and since I frequent this place multiple times a week I can say I pretty much know every single person that works here. They are awesome. Last week when it was extremely hot outside they let my friend and I go in the back freezer and cool off! Even though it may be $ 0.50-$ 1 more expensive than other places I love it here and will continue to shop here.

Just got turned away. Im a on duty paramedic and cash customer. The shop employee/​owner turned me away because he does not want anything to do with police/​ems. Go support another business

I’ve lived a few blocks away from this place for around 6 months now, and I have now made a firm decision to never shop hear again. First of all, the prices. Low end beers run at least $ 0.50 more than anywhere else with none of the «out the door» promos offered everywhere else are available here and cigarettes are a good $ 1 more here with no specials ever offered. But most importantly, it’s the customer service. 9 times out of 10, the 2 different employees are on their phones shouting in their extremely abrasive language, and when he’s not on the phone, the young guy who works evenings is the most arrogant little ass I’ve encountered in a long time. He’s extremely rude to guests like me and my friends who go in for tall cans and smokes, but if you appear to be some kind of high roller douche bag or an attractive woman, he’s the nicest guy ever. I spent money there almost everyday for months, I feel I deserve the same respect and not get insulted for my card getting declined in front of my friends. Never shop here.

Lucky for us, we live exactly in between Golden Hills Liquor and Jaraco, so we have a second option. This place is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. Also, there is some really shady business going on with the «service fee» used for the credit card machine. One night we had some friends over for dinner, several stopped at Golden Hills to grab a bottle of wine (all noted it was marked up, BTW) and they were laughing about how each person paid a different service fee to use a credit card (from $.50 — $ 2.00). Shady.

Pretty good selection of beers and wine. The prices are just okay, but obviously not as good as you will get at some bigger chain grocery stores. Employees we’ve encountered seemed friendly enough I guess.

This place base everything you need. A bit pricey compared to VONS or where ever, but the convenience of it being right here is amazing. Awesome selection of beer and liquor and great snacks! The guys working the register are always helpful and good people also!

If the owner cared as much about his customers as he does about keeping people out of his parking lot he just might have a good thing going. Seems like Golden Hill Liquor is too proud of their business to care about their product or their customers.
Keep looking, there are much better options in the neighborhood.

My first impression of Golden Hill Liquor was definitely a positive one. I was completely intrigued by the mural on the side of the building, and after learning about the history of the mural, I was only drawn to the business more. I was greeted by an older gentlemen with a warm smile. He told me he was the owner and that hes been at that location for over 30 years. He was a delight to speak with. I asked for a certain kind of beer, and unfourtenly they didn’t carry it. But the awesome thing about this store is they have a white board where you can post any requests! … And so to my pleasure, my next visit, which was only a week later, they carried the beer I had wanted! Having a clean local liquor store that is willing to bend over backwards for my request is definitely the kind of store I want to support! Not to the mention, the huge flat screen TV you see as soon as you walk in is for sure a plus! Really enjoyed meeting Alie and his son.
PS: The beers and liquor selection is HUGE and are priced great! Definitely a regular customer.

Great variety and a ton of local beers to choose from. A little pricey when push comes to shove but at the end of the day when I want a good local beer to drink, this is the place to go for selection.

They don’t accept credit cards here and the ATM «English» button doesn’t function.
There was a younger guy with long hair who seemed arrogant and told me to «flip the carrrrrd»; yes, I flipped the «carrrrrrrd».
I won’t be returning to Golden HIlls Liquor ever again! If you want to be treated like garbage, come here; if you don’t, then opt for customer friendly place that has better valued alcohol.

The dude who works here is sketchy and got weirded out about my Id for no reason dude I’m old enough leave me alone!

BEWARE: Today I was threatened and cussed out by the owner. I get their every morning at 6:45 am and before they open, walk across the street to Starbucks, and grab a coffee to go. I am there less than 5 min. Today, the owner was in the parking lot talking on the phone. As I parked my car and walked to Starbucks he approached me like he was going to assault me. He started yelling at me in Arabic. I have no idea what he was saying but I felt threatened. He started taking pictures of me? At this point I still did not understand what the issue was. He was not open yet. As I got in my car to leave he started following me as I was driving away. I would not go to this store if my life depended on it. Very scary guy!

Every time I think of Golden Hills Liquor, I feel all warm and fuzzy and not just because I associate this memory with a great beer and wine selection, but because of the lovely dude that works here.
He is the nicest man ever, always a pleasure shopping here.
He will not judge me for that week that I went there every day consecutively to purchase alcohol in my pajamas, he does not comment on my messy hair, but instead asks me how my night is going and about how safe it is to party in Tijuana on Mexican Independence Day.

I love that there’s top 40 music playing outside. I love that it’s so close to my house and that they are open past 10:00pm on weekeneds.
I am a very lucky lady that I get to live less than a block away from such fine establishment!
Oh, and if they don’t have a beer you want, they are open to suggestions. Bless this liquor store.

Quite a bit of micro brewery choices which is great, prices are a bit much though!

Golden Hill Liquor has been a staple on the corner of 28^th and B street for almost 30 years now but I have only been indulging for about two now. They have seen the neighborhood grow and take massive turns for the better and in my opinion they should probably take some credit for it doing so.
The place is spotless, the shelves are well stocked and the staff is incredibly friendly. I sent the place into a frenzy when I walked in early one morning (after an indulgent night), looking for the super trendy but very effective remedy of coconut water to rehydrate my dying body for the day ahead. Seeing that I am not the only one that drinks this magical elixir they usually have it ready and waiting in plain view for the masses. I searched on my own for a about five minutes before deciding to ask where I may be able to find it. It was at that moment we all realized that they were completely out stock and I thought someone was going to be killed for forgetting to order any. The glares exchanged between employees were in fact deadly. Whoooooops… sorry!
I stopped back later that evening for some Tums (another repercussion from a fun filled day) and I could not believe my eyes. An impressively large and perfectly stacked display of coconut water was staring me dead in the eyes as soon as I walked through the door. The cold case was also full and of the coco water and they have never let that supply slip again.
Granted I just ranted about coconut water but Golden Hill Liquor has everything that you would expect in the booze department and if they don’t, they will order it for you. They did it for my favorite brand of cheap wine that they never carried before but now have made room on their already overflowing shelves. Don’t be afraid to ask, they’ll hook you up!

We go here all the time!!! Danny is awesome!!! Even though it does seem like he’s there all the time… can one guy really work so much! Danny take a vacation!
Love the beer request board! I don’t understand the commentary about the prices… but then again I live, literally, across the street so I’m not going anywhere else… I’ll recoup the losses on MY COUCH because I ‘aint walkin’ to save a quarter!
If there’s something I want, they get it… period… OH! And, I always gotta see what new designs are shaved into that guy’s head! It’s crazy!

Eh. I’m torn on this place.
On one hand they have a delightfully large selection of beer, the largest in walking distance. Plus one star.
On the other hand it’s a tad bit overpriced, and the final price is always inexplicably $ 2+ more than what’s listed on the six pack — — and the receipt doesn’t itemize the charges. And each time I accidentally pull out an amex the owner goes on and on about how amex charges him $ 5 a transaction and glares at me disapprovingly. Minus one star.
We’ll split the difference and give them 3 stars.

Dear Golden Hills Liquor,
I know you don’t think I really care about you, since I only stop by when you land directly in my path — driving from the studio to my dude’s house, for example. I could tell you were giving me a little of the cold shoulder when I stopped in on Monday night. And yes, I admit that I’ve said all liquor stores are pretty much the same. I mean, you’ve got to admit that you all have the same basic anatomy, but no baby! Wait! Don’t get mad! While you’re built with the same basics as other beer and booze slinging joints, believe me, I’m not blind to your superior attributes.
Sure, you’ve got the same Bud, Coors, and Miller as the other little Stop ‘n’ Shops around the neighborhood, and the Guinness, Sam, and Sierra we’ve all come to expect — but you’ve got more. Not content with the mere Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, you have 3 or 4 varieties from that brewing company. 3 or 4 styles of Full Sail as well. You have Paulaner — which I’ve previously found only at BevMo and a Cask ‘n’ Flask in San Jose (I’m sorry! I know you don’t like hearing about the stores from my past). You have 22’s of Ballast Point brews, and several other local and imported varieties, typically seen in much larger beverage markets.
Your selection is far superior to those of shops and drug stores I visit more frequently and I know that the next logical step would be for me to settle down and commit to you for all my beer needs. But you can’t cage me, Golden Hills Liquor, and you mustn’t try. I need to be free. Please accept me for who I am, sweet store. And know I’ll always call on you when I want Yellowtail Pale Ale, and the other local stores have inevitably let me down. Sure, I shop at lots of liquor stores, baby. But you’re different. You’re special.
