History

Established in 2005.

After graduating from Yale Law School in 1993, John spent a year clerking for the Hon. Marilyn L. Huff of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California. He then spent close to four years as a litigator at Latham and Watkins’ Los Angeles Office. In 1997, John accepted a position as an Assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of California, where he tried human trafficking, narcotics and corruption cases on behalf of the United States. He returned to private practice in 2000, and have since represented exclusively plaintiffs in civil litigation. In September 2005, John founded the Gomez Law Firm, where he represent ordinary people and businesses in high-​stakes litigation. This year, that firm changed its name to Gomez Trial Attorneys.

John Gomez founded the firm alone in 2005. He acts today as President and Lead Trial Attorney. From humble beginnings, he attended three separate San Diego public high schools and Grossmont Junior College before graduating from the Nation’s top ranked law school, Yale University, in 1993. In between, John was named an Academic All American football player for the University of San Diego’s Toreros. He clerked for a federal judge, worked for the international law firm of Latham & Watkins and served the United States as an Assistant United States Attorney until becoming a trial lawyer for people in 2000.

Since that time, he has established himself as one of California’s most recognized and accomplished trial lawyers. Lawyers USA named him the national Lawyer of the Year in 2010. He has twice been named San Diego’s Trial Lawyer of the Year. The Consumer Attorneys of San Diego have awarded him an unprecedented nine separate Outstanding Trial Lawyer Awards. Carlie Bouslaugh and Ben Coughlan are the best and they helped me with my case after I suffered injuries in a motorcycle accident. As soon as you walk through their doors you know you are going to be well represented. They treat you like family and make sure that their clients are taken care of. If you want great representation, talk to Gomez Trial Attorneys. If you have a personal injury, motorcycle injury, or brain injury, find Carlie Bourslaugh or Ben Coughlan. They are experts in what they do and are a pleasure to work with.

I went to visit this attorney and find out my options with our potential case. My son was hit by a car and the insurance company is fighting us on payment. Needless to say I was overwhelmed and needed help. My initial meeting went well with Jerimiah low and Jessica Sizemore. I made it clear in the meeting that if they couldn’t help just give me the truth. They stated the best option was to negotiate with the hospital and insurance company. I was satisfied with their answers and happy that somebody could help. After I agreed to verbally work with them is when the lack of follow through kicked in. They sent me the intake documents two days later than what they promised. I didn’t think this was an issue especially because they’re busy law firm. When I sent them back I followed up with a phone call and message. I was told they were in court and will follow up with me. Six days later I called back and had to leave a message. My message basically said I’m following up on my case can you please call me back. If I don’t hear from you I’ll assume you’re not interested in representing me. Jerimiah low called me back and told me that he’s been really busy. He looked at my case again and that he would be doing me a favor by taking this on. I asked him if he would’ve returned my phone call had i’ve been a bigger fish.(more money for him) He said to not look at it that way. How my supposed to look at it? You don’t call me back until I had to follow up with you again. I guess I’m the stupid one that only interviewed one attorney and believed them. if they didn’t want to do it they should’ve just told me upfront. I’m sure they’re great law firm if the numbers pencil out for them. And in case you’re wondering if there’s any money in the deal… there is 25% of Max 150,000 to 200,000. do the math and think twice before you call this attorney.

John Gomez is an incredibly talented lawyer. However, as good a lawyer as he is, he is first and foremost an amazing, caring human being. Our litigation involved the mishandling of my mom’s remains by a crematorium. John and his staff worked with us through a trial, an appeal and a second trial. Both trials received very positive outcomes. As you can imagine there were many emotional conversations and situations over the years. On more than one occasion John was crying almost as hard as I was. I am tearing up now thinking of his support of my family, his love and utmost respect for my mom and his driving passion to help us in any way he could.

I was hit by a car while riding a bicycle and suffered serious injuries– broken back, pelvis, ribs and neck injury. There were no witnesses and the driver claimed it was not his fault. If I could give 0 stars I would. I contacted this firm because I had questions regarding my son’s accident. Two women called me on a speaker phone and just told me about themselves but told me I had a very good case. They wanted to get started immediately. I explained I had to speak to my husband first before agreeing to anything, and they said that was okay. My son later that day got moved into ICU and that was my first priority. I called a few days later and left a message for the attorney to call me back. I later had someone call from their office asking if I still wanted representation. I explained I had questions and needed to understand more of their process and I had never gotten a call back. I never heard back and so I called someone else who was so professional and nice. Later I received an email from this firm stating they could not take my case. I am guessing because I would not jump when they snapped their fingers. Be weary of this firm or any that will not take the time to answer your questions or explain things to you. In my opinion, these are ambulance chasers and do not have your best interest at heart.
