Governor Dental

Dr. Copps recently sent me a very polite e-​mail through Unilocal to explain her side of the story. She stated the cavities our regular dentist had been monitoring had gotten worse from August to October, and had gone past the enamel. She also explained that my daughter was in a lot of pain and she wanted to make sure the pain stopped because she knows what that is like. There is also a technical dental issue regarding the painful tooth my daughter went to see her about — my dentist says one thing and Dr. Copps says another. I have not yet had a chance to review the competing xrays to see who is right. My main concern was about whether the cavities needed to be filled — I am not a dentist. So, I am posting this follow up to be fair. Read the other reviews and decide for yourself.

I met Dr. Copps and her staff five months ago after my former dentist retired. Dr. Copps curbed my anxiousness of searching for a new dentist the minute she introduced herself. Dr. Copps has given me a new, fresh, and healthy smile over the last five months. I never felt taken advantage of, and agreed that the work I needed done was necessary. My fillings feel natural and my gums have improved tremendously after a deep clean. Dr. Copps even emailed me X-​rays showing my progress. I love her staff also. Andre and Erwin are so friendly, accommodating, and funny too. Victoria at the front desk is knowledgeable about insurance and very nice. I highly recommend Dr. Copps and her staff. I feel like part of their family.

The staff here were friendly, courteous, and more than willing to work with me on payment options in case my insurance did not cover services rendered. Everyone here had a caring attitude, compassionate bedside manner, a love for educating their patients, and a good sense of humor! The technology in the office was cutting edge, and the staff was able to see me on very short notice. I only wish I could have seen them sooner before leaving the area! Thank you, Joanne and team!

One of the worst experiences ever! Be very careful of Dr.‘s over prescription and pressuring you into unnecessary treatment. They just won’t let you go!
Also, not a clean office, the floors especially. I’ve been there three times already and won’t go there any more!

Great experience as a new dental patient this morning.
The office is organized, clean and high tech. The TVs in each room on the wall and the ceiling were a nice touch, I’m not used to seeing that.
The staff is very friendly, funny and knowledgeable. Saturday appointments are also a great plus.
I really appreciated that Dr Joanne talked me through what she was doing during my cleaning and showed me first hand what’s going on in my mouth so I can take the best care of my teeth.
I had the best experience one can have going to the dentist — I 100% recommend going to her.

I have been coming to her for awhile but I’m sick of her and will be switching dentists.
She made me get a filling for a cavity that was UNNECESSARY. It was a tiny hole! She could have monitored it and waited to see if it got worse overtime and then fill it.
Also, her office is constantly calling me. Its obnoxious. I don’t need constant check ins from the staff or nagging me about making appointments. I want to schedule my appointments and see you 1 – 2 times a year, that’s the only interaction there should be between dentist and patient for teeth cleaning. That’s how other offices operate.

My wife and I moved to San Diego from Maryland and were looking for a dentist with excellent reviews. After reading all the positive reviews on Unilocal we decided to give Dr. Copps and her staff a chance. We are absolutely delighted that we did!!! Having had the same dentist for 20 years before we moved, we were treated so well at Governor Dental it seemed like we were part of a family.
In addition to needing our regular cleaning, both my wife and I needed to have aging decaying fillings removed and new ones put in. Dr Copps showed us not only the xrays but actual photos of our teeth taken moments earlier pinpointing the problem with a few fillings. Made everything very clear and easy to understand. Then Tiffany, the office administrator sat down with me to go over the cost and explained what my insurance would pay and what my out-​of-​pocket cost would be. Again very honest, forthright, and no question unanswered. I agreed to the entire schedule.
6 weeks later now and all the work has been done. The cost was exactly as briefed and the procedures were marvelous. Dr Copps is a terrific dentist and her entire staff are wonderful. I can see why the other Unilocal reviews are 5 stars, and I just want to add mine too. I highly recommend Governor Dental to anyone in need of good care.

Best dentist office ever! My self and my two boys come here and we are always treated so nicely. Joanne, Jerry, and Tiffany are very professional and super sweet. I love all the new technology they have for cleaning your teeth and not to mention the TVs on the ceiling! Thanks girls! And I won’t forget to floss!

I am so thankful that I found Joanne and her staff at Governor Dental. I hadn’t found a good dentist since moving down to SD for college and I have absolutely no complaints since meeting Joanne. Her and her staff are so quick to reply and will go above and beyond to make sure you’re taken care of. The office is very clean, and chic as well. I would recommend Governor Dental to anyone who needs a family-​feel dentist office.

This office accommodates recipients of UC ship– so if you’re a student, you should definitely check this place out. Overall a great experience. I hope I don’t need to visit the dentist anytime soon but if I must, I will be going to Governor Dental!

Dr. Joanne Copps is fabulous, and I’m so grateful to have found such a talented, brilliant, and honest dentist in San Diego. I moved out here about a year and a half ago and asked around for a good dentist, but in the end had to settle for a bad one because I had an HMO. The old dentist that I went to wanted to charge me upwards of $ 2000 for a partial crown (that I didn’t need) and a root canal (which I didn’t need) + an irrigation treatment (which I didn’t need, since my gums are fine).
Open enrollment came up and I switched to a PPO because I knew I needed good dental work done and figured the extra few dollars/​pay check was worth it. I work in a museum, and one of my volunteers is a retired dentist who used to work with Dr. Copps and who highly recommended her. He said that he would be absolutely comfortable having her perform his own dental work (coming from a dentist who regularly peer-​reviewed the work of other dentists, that’s saying something!). I immediately called and set up an appointment and was seen the next week.
Dr. Copps is wonderful: she listened to my concerns, listened to me tell her all about what the previous dentist had diagnosed, and took the time to look at old xrays that I brought in, but didn’t form an opinion until she took her own xrays and performed her own examination. She has very sweet, attentive, intelligent assistants, and she performed the teeth cleaning herself which I’ve decided that I really like.
Her office is comfortable and welcoming. She has a tv on the ceiling and headphones for you to put on while she’s performing her work, and she lets you hold the remote, so you can change channels and the volume (it really made me feel calm during the fillings). She also does digital x-​rays which are far more comfortable to have done (they don’t dig in to the soft parts of your mouth as much as the old style). I had to have 3 fillings done (two of them were particularly deep since I hadn’t been to a dentist for several years before this year). Dr. Copps got them all done within about 45 minutes. She uses a new device that I’ve never experience before — sort of a barrier that she uses to isolate the tooth that she’s working on, and it has the added benefit of keeping your tongue out of the way, so you can swallow saliva all you want while she’s working, and not worry about your tongue moving into her workspace.
One last thing: Dr. Copps is completely honest in her billing practices, and is happy to take the time to explain, up front, your treatment plan and the costs associated with it. I found her prices to be quite reasonable with my PPO plan. I am sooooo happy I found her and I’m already looking forward to my 6 month check up!
Do yourself a favor and have your dental work performed by her, she’s one of the best there is.

Dr. Copps is such a sweetheart. You can tell she genuinely cares about her patients. She is very thorough in her work and does a great job explaining everything that is going on. The office is clean and I was very impressed with the TVs on the walls and ceilings in each room. It really helps the time go by while they are working on your mouth. I would recommend her to anyone.

My recent visit to Governor Dental was my first visit to a dentist in a few years. I had a bad experience with my prior dentist and was quite hesitant to step back into a dentists office. Dr. Copps was kind, accommodating, and very thorough. She walked me through each step and made me feel like I had been coming to her for years. The office is beautiful and the tv on the ceiling kept me entertained during my entire cleaning. A good dentist is extremely hard to find; I’m glad I found Dr. Copps. My mouth has never felt so clean

Dr. Joanne Copps is an excellent dentist who has help me get my smile back. The office is really clean with a nice set up appropriate for customer’s needs (i.e. Keurig coffee maker, water, tea, drinks, internet and etc.). The kindness of the office staff helped me feel comfortable before I saw Dr. Copps. Dr. Copps was very thorough with her explanations and her precision and skills are hard to come by. I was very satisfied with her work and would highly recommend her to anybody who is new to the area or is looking for a new dentist.

I moved to San Diego 7 years ago for college but used to go to my childhood dentist every summer and winter when I’d go home to visit. I haven’t been able to squeeze in an appointment over the past year and a half so decided I needed a local dentist in San Diego. I searched on Delta Dental for a dentist near my work and I found Governor Dental and I’m so glad I did!
Dr. Copps is extremely smart and thoroughly explans what she’s doing and why your mouth/​teeth react or do certain things that my other dentist never explained to me. Her office is new and uses really cool new technology — she takes photos in your teeth then displays them on the TV on the wall, and she also has a TV on the ceiling that you can watch while she cleans your teeth.
Her staff is really friendly. Tiffany called me right after my appointment to follow up with an updated quote from my insurance for my next visit since I need to have some work done. I also gave her my boyfriend’s insurance info to see if he could be seen here too and she followed up promptly. She also had emailed me all the new patient forms before I stepped into the office to save me time.
I highly recommend this place!!! I have Delta Dental Première (PPO) if that helps someone looking a dentist with the same insurance.

Background:
I haven’t been to the dentist for a year and a half, and one day my left top wisdom teeth started hurting. I decided finally to go through my school’s insurance and was able to find Dr. Copps about a mile away from where I live. She didn’t have many reviews yet, but I was desperate. It hurted badly and I couldn’t crunch on oatmeal and bananas — the softest food ever!
Reception:
I’m a very skeptical person, so I ask questions about everything. I ask about the cost of removing the wisdom teeth. I ask about cleaning, which I needed. I will also review a cost sheet, which she supplies to you before any procedures. So I decided on the day that I was there, I would need deep cleaning. She was very clear on how much my insurance will cover and how much I will pay out of my pocket.
She also answered a lot of questions on dentistry, so my impression about her is that she knows her shtuff!
A week later, I took off the two wisdom teeth. She has a nice setup with two TVs, but I didn’t need it. The fact that she was very knowledgeable, calm, and not-​tricky-​looking was good enough for me.

Hadn’t been to the dentist in probably 3 years when I finally decided enough was enough. I found Dr. Copps through my dental insurance website and was able to get in very quickly. She could tell I had been delinquent in my dental services and offered me a deep cleaning option which was still covered by my insurance! Heck yeah! I had to go back a second day to get a couple cavities filled and the other side deep cleaned. When I was there, she discovered a hidden cavity on my very back wisdom tooth. She was happy to take it out right then.
My favorite part of her office is the TV setup. There are two TVs in each patient room – one in front of you and one on the ceiling if you are leaned back getting work done. So awesome!!! Her staff is super nice and accomodating. Will definitely be back!
