The price is reasonable and comparable with other barber shops for a short male-​cut.
I usually go to the Happy Barber on Clairmont Mesa, but this is now closer for me. This is a perfect place to take my two little kids; I can’t comment on anyone but Quin (formerly Nguyen) who did a great job with my 3 yr old and 9 month old. With a coupon, the price is pretty much the same as Happy Barber. I haven’t tried the online booking feature and haven’t had a problem as a walk in.

Had gone to this place many years ago and decided to give it another try as I didn’t like the last couple haircuts from my current hairdresser and I was tired of always having products pushed on me. I was only in the chair for a brief time before Yafa started questioning me about what kind of shampoo I use. I knew whatever I answered, she was going to try to sell me their products. The haircut itself was ok, but she did not wash my hair or ask if I wanted it washed. When I told her how many inches I wanted off the length she just repeated it, but didn’t show my how short that would be. She spent less than 10 minutes on the haircut. She didn’t check the length all around to make sure it was even. To sum it up, I thought I would give this place a try, but will not be going back.
Are there any hairdressers that will just cut your hair and not try to push their products on you?

Went here today for an interview for another location that is about to open. Came on time but when I got there nobody greeted me. I was forced to give my brother a fade even though it wasn’t what he wanted. She made me really uncomfortable and just wanted to get out of there. I did a womens long layered cut on my friend. I don’t think she even understands what a long layered cut is. I wanted to blowdry the cut to finish it properly and she would not let me. She was incredibly rude to me the entire time I was there. When we talked after technical she told me to not talk to the clients about their lives to only talk about products. How do you expect to have client retention if all you talk about is selling them something instead if having genuine human connection with your clients. I understand they are all about pumping out haircuts but there is a huge difference between quality and quantity. I didn’t even get to finish my cut she finished it for me because she didn’t listen to me or my models. Just made me do what she felt like doing. A huge part of keeping clients is to listen and to take the time do a quality cut.

I get my hair cut here and every time I think I want to try somewhere else I end up coming back here to get my hair fixed. I have had just about everyone here cut my hair and they are all really good. I absolutely love Yafa though. Love. Love. Love. Love. She is awesome! She’s also really honest when I need opinions about anything so its nice talking to her while getting my hair cut. This place is really cheap for a hair cut and I really don’t understand how they only have 2 stars on Unilocal.I don’t dye my hair so I can’t comment on that aspect but the cuts are solid. I also really enjoy getting the conditioning treatments here. They make my hair feel super soft and silky after. I also love that while I’m here they never try to push products on me. The staff is also very patient with all my strange and untraditional requests for random cuts here and there.

Without question one of the worst haircuts ever. The young lady was sweet enough, but I asked her if she was familiar with cutting curly hair, to which she replied yes. my hair is a choppy mess, downright terrible. I should have known better, but when your desperate for a cut you take silly chances. OUCH!

I received a horrible hair cut by Yafa, the manager. This woman does not know how to cut hair. I came in to have a bad haircut fixed. I told Yafa what I wanted and ended up looking like I had a bowl haircut above my ears! I left in tears with very little hair left. Please, please do not let Yafa cut your hair! You get what you pay for and this place was the proof! Run, don’t walk away from this «salon».

I wanted to write this review from a long time. The last time I was here, I got a haircut from one of the laziest hair stylist I ever came across in my life. There are some good hardworking hairstylist too, but this one was totally opposite. I asked her not to use clippers, she said she cannot use her hands and spoiled my hair. She know she spoiled my hair then she was suggesting to shave my head. I was totally shocked, then she said she was kidding. I will never visit this place again. Other hard working people will also get negative review because of this one.

Terrible, I’ve given it multiple chances and have never been very happy with the results. But a new Russian lady works there and she completely murdered my hair. I came out with patchy, wild hair. They also don’t follow the directions you give them and give their own preference.

This is the worst great clips I’ve been to. I didn’t get what I asked for and the lady argued about how my hair should be cut versus what its been getting cut as the past year. Never going back. I am livid.

I had a very bad experience today. The lady with Russian accent cut my hair today. I like my hair to be short. I have clearly mentioned 6 on the top, 2 and 1 on the sides.
Instead of cutting with scissors, she used a machine with 5!!! What the heck is that. She did not put any care in cutting my hair properly. she tried to finish the job ASAP. I have to look into mirror and ask her to cut the hair properly.
I strongly recommend to avoid this lady with Russian accent.

I recently went to this location for a haircut before an important business trip that I had for the weekend. I am originally from Dallas and have been going to Great Clips for around 5 years now consistently without ever having a problem. Always loved my haircuts. I went to this location after coming to San Diego for a couple of months on business related work. I saw a stylist by the name of OLGA, the place was empty, with 2 stylists. Olga seemed nice enough, I showed her the picture of what I wanted my hair to look like, a recent photo of myself, one I use every time I get a haircut, it’s simple enough, 3 on the sides with a little longer on top and front for basic styling. Olga gave me a buzzcut, she took a 6 and trimmed my whole head, then did 3 on the sides, and then faded my sides. I look more like an inmate than a professional now. It is absolutely absurd. There is no way to fix it until it grows out. I have nothing on the front left to style, or the top. It is completely embarrassing and pathetic. There were no other clients in line, I was the only person there the whole time, and she rushed me through. Never used scissors, or anything else, just buzzed the top and side. And insisted that it looked like the photo. I wish I could attach the current and that photo to this comment so whoever sees this can be a proper judge. I am appalled and extremely disappointed by the level of service and the quality of the haircut that I received at this location. It’s safe to say that I won’t be going back to this location, or any other great clips in this area. I’ll wait until I get back to Dallas.

I was visiting from out of town and the hotel had a shower problem. I stopped here before a meeting for a wash and blow dry. The did a barely ok job them charged me $ 35 after they told be it would be $ 15. I said you told me $ 15 and she said that was for just a wash. Seriously … It was not even worth $ 15 much less $ 35.

It’s interesting one of the other places has a four-​star rating and this one has a two-​star one. All the Great Clips are essentially the same. Of course, how good a cut you get depends on the stylist (or should I say hair-​cutter).
What is great about Great Clips is that you can check-​in online! Maybe I shouldn’t reveal this because it seems only a few people use it, which means I can «get in line» as soon as I check in.
They are no different than Super Cuts in that they cut your hair quickly to keep the customers moving. They make their money on volume. So, if you have easy hair to cut, this is the place for you. You can buy in bulk (must buy at least 3 upfront) and pay $ 10 per cut (sometimes that deal is about $ 11 per cut, I think). If you have special needs or you have hair/​style that is not easy to cut, then you need to be going somewhere you can make an appointment in order to see the same person every time.

I’ve gone here twice and been disappointed both times. The stylist who cut my hair both times was Yafa, so I cannot speak for the other stylists there. I just required a simple buzz, but it came out so uneven that I had to correct it myself both times after I got home. It would be faster and easier for me to go back to cutting my own hair again. These haircuts are not worth the gas-​money for driving here.
Cons:
–Stylists (at least Yafa) was very inpatient and rude
–They require your address and phone number, which takes a long time to communicate and type into their antiquated computer system
–Haircuts are very sub-​par
Pros:
–I would have said price, but these haircuts are worthless

I went in to Great Clips because they sent me a coupon for a $ 5.85 Haircut…
…big mistake in going.
1. The haircut itself was terrible. Took off more than was asked for on top and the transition between the sides and the top is horrible.
2. The lady used a rough public restroom type hand paper towel to painfully wipe my face of hair.

I had a wonderful experience this afternoon with my haircut.

Yesterday, both my BF and I went to get a haircut here after lunch at Bite of Boston next door. There were 2 ladies working and only one person ahead of us.
They both sucked. Granted, our haircuts are simple ones. I asked for a 1.5 inch trim and he just wanted his hair cut shorter. We both felt our haircuts were rushed (despite no one waiting after us) and mine barely took the time to do any real measuring before cutting and I found a bunch of longer straggler hairs when I got home. (Normally, any trim I have done takes like 15 minutes by someone who handles everything with care and precision, my lady took 4 minutes… she can’t be that good). My lady also asked me how I was doing, then I answered her that my BF and I were done eating lunch and stopped here to get haircuts and then she stopped speaking to me… weird!
We both overtipped these ladies out of niceness I guess (thinking in hindsight, I shouldn’t have tipped her at all), but it’s fine I guess because now I’m here to tell you all to NEVER go to this location ever and take the money to a better place.

Came here to donate my hair. I asked them to cut strictly 10 inches, not an inch more (for fear of looking like a boy). She ended up cutting about 12 – 13 inches. Ok, hair is hair, and it’ll grow, so I didn’t care much. I just proceeded and told her to layer my hair in the front.
BUT! Instead, I felt her cutting the hair along my neck straight across, and before it was too late, I realized she was giving me an A-​line cut! I stopped her and I said no, I just wanted layers in the front, not an A-​line. But, it was too late — I looked like a boy.
In the end, it was so bad that I knew I could cut my own hair better… so i did. I went to Sephora, bought a pair of sheers, and with no experience, I cut my crooked and ugly hair at home.
Yeah, this place is cheap, but it’s cheaper to buy your own scissors and cut your own hair; your hair will come out better that way anyway.

I’ve been in SD for awhile now and I still don’t have an allegiance to a haircut place.
Maybe it’s because my preferred cut is simple. I just wash it and take all of ten seconds to ‘style it’ and make it look messy. I just want to keep it out of my eyes and off of my forehead.
Maybe it’s because I go to places that send me coupons. I have no illusions that a more expensive haircut is going to make me attractive or look more presentable. Hopefully one day Aveda will send me a coupon and prove me otherwise.
In addition to having a coupon today, I went to Great Clips because they close at 8pm and I didn’t want to style it into a rooster fauxhawk that possibly could’ve flopped over thus making my hair look like Shamu’s limp dorsal fin tomorrow. Awhile back I had my hair cut by Darcy who was great… she gave me a nice cut and company. Tonight, no dice.
If I didn’t have my coupon tonight, I might have felt a little cheated. The stylist was a whirlwind and finished in less than 15 minutes. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing but I’m used to the clipper/​scissor combo and a little attention to detail. It was like I was dredged in egg wash, double dipped in bread crumbs, deep fried and then patted on the bottom on my way out like a fast food lunch. Honestly though, I think that my cut looks the same as usual.
Maybe when I get a haircut, I’m willing to pay for a little coddling and a nice bedside manner. My search for a monthly haircut place continues.

Plus side for me: it’s close to home, and there’s usually never any wait.
Minus side: only so-​so haircuts for guys, and it costs more than the UC Barber Shop at Governor & Genesee.
I’ve gone once, since I had a coupon, but felt that I could have gotten the same trim somewhere else for less — even with the coupon. My sister’s boyfriend has also gone here, and he’s more picky about his hair, and I think he felt that he didn’t get a good cut.
So even though it’s walking distance, i’ll stick with the UC barber shop down the street.
