Greyhound Bus Station

I didn’t actually ride the greyhound bus here. I am basing my review on the check in of my aunt who i recently took here. The location was actually confusing. Since I was dropping her off there wasn’t even a clear sign to where parking would be to drop off Greyhound goers. I was actually disappointed in that.
As for check in, it was rather a fast and efficient. They had bathrooms but only available to the customers riding the bus. There is a HUGE vending machine for all your necessities. I guess just the area of where this bus station location makes me feel like its in a sketch place. But you get what you pay for.

I am a office manager for a Ministry Center/​church and I serve a lot of homeless and less fortunate in our community. One of my homeless patrons took all his money and purchased a $ 233.00 bus ticket to go live with his daughter in Kansas. He went to the restroom and bought some snacks for his trip to return and learn he missed the bus. Greyhound told him he would have to pay another $ 20 to catch the next bus going to Kansas, he didn’t have anymore money and they wouldn’t assist him in any way. REALLY??? They took his money and wouldn’t provide service… IT’S WRONG no matter how you look at it!!! He showed up in my office a few days later, told me what happened. I got on the phone with them and worked my way up the ladder to an agent who was willing to try and get S.D. Greyhound to re-​issue him a ticket, but she was unsuccessful at reaching anyone. She developed him a file with a customer Id# and typed up detailed notes for whomever would read them. I sent him down there and even them they are still reluctant to move on this. He’s trying to do the right thing, all he’s trying to do is get off the streets, go home to his family to live the rest of his life. Something that everyone deserves… I dare you GREYHOUND… IT AIN’T RIGHT!!!

Very slow on the ticketing. Each person takes 20 minutes at least. Only 1 window open even though there are 3 windows and I see many people behind the window hovering around just to take care 1 customer. Need more training? The bus is coming and passengers are still waiting on the line to get ticket. Even I bought ticket online i still have to wait forever on the line.
And in the bus. Power outlets? Blah. On the way to San Diego, the bus has power outlets with no power. I changed seats twice but both outlets have no power at all. Now in this return bus, there is no outlet at all.
Wifi is very bad. I have to turn it off and use my personal wifi because the connection is very slow and the page is just loading forever.

Sat around waiting for a late bus to pick up a friend because the workers kept saying «it’s on it’s way,» and «we just spoke with the driver. He’s stuck in traffic,» and «twenty more minutes.»
After an hour and fourth five minutes I called the main office and found out the truth — the bus had never left LA and had been cancelled.
The workers not knowing or miscommunicating is somewhat understandable (though not really since they are literally the people who get paid to give out information), but to deliberately lie is a whole other level of grossness.

I’ve never seen such a jerk company. I bought my tickets online and after 20 miles driving to the bad hound station the guy there said me your trip was canceled. I called the customer service number on theirs website. you can’t believe, the customer service didn’t respond, i think that was just fake.

This location wouldn’t be so bad if the security/​bag checker wasn’t so damn rude! He’s so dirty too. At least have some hand sanitizer since you feel the need to dig through people’s bags. He goes through everyone’s bag with some dirty ass gloves. I simply asked him if they were clean and he got offended n started talking shit. I hope he gets fired!

The new security guard is a complete creep, and he makes me uncomfortable. He is nosey, condescending, and he does too much. This is not an airport. He wants to know whats in your pockets, your make-​up bag, your laptop case, you r tampon box. Its obvious whats in there. The other security guards aren’t that ridiculous. He bugs everyone so people trying to check in have to wait on him. He’s short, african american, and probably middle-​aged. He walks around like a big cop trying to incriminate someone. And he curses a lot. He loudly told a story about how i guy ran off with his ticket, a lot of money, and weed. And he talked about how he could have took it, and gave the money to everyone. «I take from the rich and give to the poor». Thats not necessarily a bad thing but he really needs to simmer down, and leave people alone. He does too much, and he annoys everyone there.

Worst experience ever on Christmas day. Went to the bus station in San Diego on Dec 25, 2015 heading to Calexico, the bus supposed to leave at 2:30 pm, instead left 10 – 15 min earlier than that and as soon we arrived to the station they told me «the bus just left, go to El Cajon and you can get in there» We did what we where instructed to do. Two hrs later and after several calls to customer service and the corporate I decided to call the bus station in Calexico, they told me the bus didn’t stop in El Cajon and they were expecting the bus to arrive on time at 5:30 — 5:40 pm. Unbelievable!!! Every person i asked in the bus station or customer service keep telling me to wait because the bus were on its way to El Cajon or they simply didn’t know anything. Now we missed a day of work and a lot of time during Christmas day. This is totally unacceptable.

I was very hesitant to take the greyhound because of all the horrible reviews I read but for $ 12 from SD to LA I figured I’d give it a try. I’m currently writing this review using the free wifi on the bus. I had no problemos with my experience. The bus stop was a bit shady so I decided to go down the street and grab a beer. You definitely don’t need to be there over an hour early. We boarded about 15 minutes before our scheduled departure time. The bus is old and a bit dirty. And I’m gonna need to wash all the clothes I’m wearing and shower right when I get home but oh well. I’d take the greyhound from SD to LA over the Amtrak. Ya the Amtrak is nicer but it’s over double the price of the greyhound. If I’m sleeping the whole time I don’t mind the greyhound. It’s actually pretty quiet. Everyone’s minding their own business and there’s lots of room on the bus so my backpack has a seat too.

Worst facility! No parking within a mile during Padre games. Bad service. I could not think of a worse bus depot than this. Never go here. I had to walk by every homeless tent in downtown to get there and then they would not let me change the time for my gift ticket for another station after the Greyhound told me going to any depot would be fine to change time. I should have just drove to Bakersfield to pick them up rather than use Greyhound. I wish Über or Lyft could take over bus travel too.

Worse bus station and personnel ever. First, we get there before the 6am bus and the line is 5 deep with people. We then proceed to wait… and wait… and wait and what happens? Our bus leaves without us. Why, we ask does it take the people that was just in front of us on line and doesn’t take us? The neon-​yellow vested worker states that it’s after 6am and it should’ve left at 6am and we should’ve been there earlier. Huh… but we were there before 6am??? Ok, so we then try to go back to the window to ask the very same question and to get an exchange for our ticket for the next bus but the scary tattooed guard minding the gated waiting area stops us and tells us we have to go to the back of the long line… again. Ugh! Can someone please tell me when Greyhound buses started leaving people that are just waiting in line for their ticket to get on? Cause that was wrong. Seriously. Oh, and finally, once we get to the young woman at the window, (who was not only rude but needs a serious attitude adjustment) we are told we have to pay an extra $ 20 for the next bus, leaving in an hour. Ok, my aunt is a 79 year old senior walking around with a cane and the entire station just treated her very poorly. Worst customer service, company and bus station. They just don’t care and it’s obvious. I’ve been in the sales/​service industry for decades and will never use or recommend Greyhound Buses to anyone. Saddest and most pathetic group of workers I ever met. :(

7÷6÷15… The day that the 5:25AM bus disappeared and screwed everyone’s morning over will forever be in the Unilocal history books as the greatest let down in world history!
This is the 2^nd grey hound station I end up at this morning. The 5:25AM bus was a no show and so many people were waiting for it including I!
The bus that did show up to my San Ysidro location was not an express and would arrive by 10:30AM which means I would be late to class. We get to here (the San Diego location) and we were told an express bus IS coming to take us. Behold, a bus does come for but guess what, it was not even an express bus. Now, this bus will arrive by the time my class is over. Thanks grey hound for really screwing everybody’s day up today. I’ll make sure to report this to the better business bureau.

Worst Greyhound station I’ve ever been to. Absolutely dislike outdoor concept thing going on here. Herded like cattle into enclosed waiting area. Loud and uncomfortable thank goodness for nice SD weather. Came to drop off relative, no place to sit and keep company. Greyhound will definitely be a last resort. Just feels low budget and sleazy.

OmGee! This is, THE VERY FIRST TIME, they’ve EVER been PUNCTUAL! I LUV this little station! The lady at the front desk was very friendly & helpful. The security was friendly & professional too! The bus wasn’t crowded; there was ample seating. The ride was very smooth!

Quite well except you will meet cold temperature at night wait for ride and there seems no over night parking and continue discover that.

Super sleazy location… but sounds like that’s the norm for Greyhound.
I’m here to pick up a friend & of course the bus is super behind schedule & there’s NO PARKING aside from the paid lots. Awesome!
I also tried calling several times for station information without anyone ever answering.
Two stars cuz the trolley is right there, which is what I shoulda told my friend to hop on… Ha

The good: I like that the trolley stops right in front of this station, it’s convenient. Staff has always been nice and willing to help when asked.
The bad: well the area isn’t great, but that seems to be the case with all greyhound stops I’ve been to. It is an outdoor patio-​style waiting area, it’s not bad since SD always has good weather but it’s really small, they need more seats or a bigger space, it gets packed and when the bus is ready to load it looks like black Friday shopping lines.
I recommend: buy tickets online in advance, arrive 30 minutes early and sit near the bus entrance gate.

Ok after reading all the other posts sorry you guys had a bad experience, mine was great. I had no rude staff all very helpful and seemed sincere. And about the location… it might be a little ghetto okay yeah it is in 12^th & imperial and close to st vincent de pauls shelter but who cares. Where do u expect a bus station to be? Gaslamp area… umm i dont think so. Anyways the location is great because its easy to get to and easy to find. Ill be coming here again soon. No ba experiences! Thank you greyjound stagg

OK, so the old SD Greyhound station wasn’t great, but it was better than this crap. Mirroring another review, it’s like I picked to «go straight to jail» card on Monopoly. I should have worn an orange jumpsuit.
I used to love the San Diego Greyhound as I used to come to San Diego 2 weekends a month for a couple years from Los Angeles. It was a cheap, reliable route and the station in SD I was comfortable waiting at. Now, moved to a sketchier area of town and an outdoor bus station, this stop has hit my «never again» list of places. Even the Über cab that dropped me off here locked his car door when retrieving my suitcases from his trunk saying, «Oh this part of town, I close the trunk to see someone in my front seat about to drive off… keep to yourself girl.» Geez.
Moving on to service, I can understand if you are clearly homeless and they treat you harshly because they can no longer house those people (and they definitely did before, accidental or not) but when you come up and are clearly well dressed, well spoken, and very polite and they want to do a pat down to even let you take a seat, then there are real issues going on here.
While there were a few super nice employees towards the end of my wait here (which was long because the bus driver of my route did not feel like driving that day and didn’t inform Greyhound of that, so we had to wait an extra hour and 40 minutes while they found a new driver to come in) overall I was treated like a criminal on the run. I was talked down to, yelled at, all they needed to do was spit on me to make me feel worse.
In the 3 hours I waited at this station, besides all the above, I was also approached by not 1, but 3 recently released inmates of some prison that just wanted «to chat». They weren’t even riding the bus. So screw you Greyhound for giving me the pat down and harsh treatment as a law abiding, paying bus passenger. Meanwhile, these guys are within the Greyhound property, not searched or asked what their purpose was here, and freely allowed to roam around and bother paying passengers.
What’s funny is I didn’t even use Greyhound to save money, it was the only way I could find online to get inland from San Diego (I don’t drive so I couldn’t rent a car). Next time, should this happen again, I will pay a cabbie $ 200 before doing this rubbish.
Oh and please, don’t accidentally leave anything on the bus like I did. I contacted every number on Greyhound’s website, spoke in person to get telephone numbers for bus stations necessary (to a RUDE lady at Santa Ana I may add) and never got a single person on the line. The item I lost was around $ 150 and it was way more worth it to buy a new one that continuously call Greyhound’s dead lines (no one answers any of the 7 numbers I was given… wtf).
Amtrak wins again, even if I have to connect to 10 city buses later to arrive at my final destination.
