Description

Specialties

Hannah’s House is a visitation and exchange center providing services to families involved in Family Court. We provide a safe and welcoming place for children caught in the middle of custody disputes where they can come together with their parents in a nurturing, supportive and protective environment. We help children spend time safely with parents who are overcoming issues affecting their ability to parent independently. We help children go back and forth between Mom’s House and Dad’s House happily and peacefully. We help parents through classes in co-parenting, parenting, anger management and substance abuse.

History

Established in 1988.

Our initial focus for prevention/intervention work with families was the workplace, through employee assistance and drug-free workplace programs. After years in the counseling room, we knew how often adults would pinpoint the beginning of their own emotional and mental health problems by saying…“before the divorce, my life…” or «after the divorce, my life…» We knew the break-up of the family was a critical life transition for children but we didn’t know exactly what to do with that information. So, we began fact-finding.

An event occurred that catapulted us into family court programs. A co-founder published a booklet called Co-parenting For the Sake of the Kids. A local family magazine ran a cover story on the booklet and reprinted a portion of it in 1993. The organization’s phone number was printed in the article. Over the next 3 months, we received over 800 calls from parents, relatives and even children! We had found the knowledge base to develop our programs.
