Hapa Yoga

Great Yoga studio — VERY clean, friendly and lots of options. Even as a working Mom (kids are a little older and we don’t need the childcare) I find the classes very convenient and I don’t feel like they are all catered to the younger Mommy. Its basically a perfect blend. Yes, I do go to the gentle Yoga with some of the lovely pregnant ladies — even still, I don’t feel like an odd ball here. Heather Foat is my favorite so far. :) Reasonable prices — sign up for their email list and look for some great Black Friday deals when that rolls around.

Such an amazing and wonderful studio! The classes are varied in types and levels and all the teachers are great. The classes for moms — whether to-​be, new, or experienced — are plentiful and awesome. Mommy and Me classes for babies and tots are the best around. And, best of all, they have a wonderful daycare service… so a stressed-​out mama can get a little piece of quiet during savasana on her mat. Namaste!

Such a great studio. The instructors are encouraging and very down to earth. My favorite is Hot As A Mutha. But I will say I tried CardiYo Sculpt last night with Linda and had a blast! The studio is always clean and doesn’t have that stuffy smelly aroma some hot studios do. Their monthly price is also very competitive compared to other hot studios in town. I actually found them on a groupon deal a few years ago, moved out of San Diego for 2 years, when I moved back in town a couple of months ago I knew I wanted to join again! My only complaint is I wish they had more classes in the evenings/​weekends.

I’ve been coming to Hapa Yoga on-​and-​off since this studio first opened. Personally, I’ve been doing Yoga on-​and-​off for years and I found that this studio was a great reintroduction to my practice, especially in a class setting which I never did before. Through this studio, I’ve become a more beginner-​intermediate yogi. There’s a variety of classes at this studio like TRX and CardiYO in addition to the yoga classes. My personal favorites are Gentle Yoga (for those stressful weeks) and the Vinyasa classes (Vinyasa Flow, Power 80/​90/​Hot as a Mutha).
What I appreciate about this studio is how accommodating their prices and amenities are for their students. I’m not a mother, but I’ve heard from other yogis around San Diego that they want to try Hapa down the line because of their Child Care room. Being in Mission Valley, if I were a busy mother, I would try to take advantage of that option. Their student prices are also really awesome with an $ 8 drop in rate with student ID. That is a great price considering I’ve seen other studios charge $ 25 for a drop-​in rate. I also get a free yoga class that can be used within one month after my birthday when you sign up for emails. I love this studio and I’m glad they opened up the one near my house so I can go more frequently.

Love this studio! I’ve been coming here for years. Power 90 and hotter than a motha are great classes. Jennifer and Cindy make an hour feel like 5 minutes.

Best yoga spot in San Diego! I’ve tried a few others in the area and Hapa is by far superior. They offer a wide variety of classes at all levels including vinyasa, gentle, heated, power, and prenatal. The double studio allows for more classes and class times. They even offer barre, TRX, and cardiYO sculpt for a well rounded fitness experience. The facilities are clean and well kept, and include restrooms, showers, towel rental, retail boutique, and childcare.
Would highly recommend Hapa Yoga for both beginners and seasoned yogis alike.

I’ve been going happily to this studio for many months now. The consistent teacher quality is what brings me back. It’s unfortunate that as they have opened a new studio and are bringing in new teachers, the quality of instructors has gone way down. I’m not sure how long I will continue.

Hapa is conveniently located in Mission Valley right off the eight. It is a fairly new studio and is well-​maintained. They have a wide variety of classes almost hourly throughout the day. Another bonus is that they frequently offer Groupon’s or package deals. The biggest highlight for many may be the on-​site childcare which I believe is included in membership. I’ve taken hot as a mutha which is heated and the cardio sculpt which is not. Both classes were intense in the best possible way. I walked out of there feeling like I had a real workout while doing something good for my body. Hapa offers everything that the chain yoga studios offer but in a more intimate and authentic setting.

Really disappointed in the level of service, or lack there of.
I had a positive experience during a complimentary intro class a few months back, at that time the staff shared I would still be able to use a Groupon if I decided to do a month of classes.
Fast forward to tonight I went in for class and there was a blonde woman with black rimmed glasses who sternly told me I could not use my groupon immediately upon my arrival before I could even finish spelling my name for check in, which was not what was shared with me during my initial visit.
The woman asked to see my phone and took her time to examine Groupon, she brought to my attention that it was only valid in Eastlake, which was my mistake I was of the opinion that Hapa Yoga was a stand alone studio.
I felt frustrated at this point because she dismissed and seemingly shooed me out, telling me that I have to go to Eastlake once it is open and there is nothing she can do.
As a business owner myself I am shocked by the way this women treated me for wanting to use a Groupon!
Instead of focusing on a solution or working something out it was «sorry, bye, and have a nice night.» Congratulations on turning away a customer, and at Yoga… aren’t you supposed to be «zen»?? Very unfortunate.
I was strongly considering a membership at this studio since CorePower is now up to $ 150 per month and this studio seemed more reasonable.
At this juncture I will happily shell out the extra cash in exchange for friendly desk people and a more robust offering of class times/​locations.

I’m so happy to have found my new yoga home and family — or ohana, I should say — in Hapa Yoga! There are so many pluses about this studio.
First, the prices. They’re reasonable and they offer fantastic discounts for veterans, students, seniors and health care workers. I work in health care, so I was thrilled to get $ 15 off a five-​class package I purchased.
Next, the facilities. It’s small yet I feel there’s everything you could possibly need here: a boutique with cute yoga clothes and accessories, small and large studios, a lovely «locker room» (quotations because it’s more like a spa than a locker room) and even a child care area.
Finally, the classes. I’ve taken a few but my favorite is Cindy’s Power 90 class on Sunday mornings. The room is heated to — you guessed it, 90 degrees — so you get a glorious sweat while Cindy expertly stretched you out. I leave her classes feeling like a new woman!
I’m ecstatic to learn that Hapa Yoga is opening another location in Eastlake in December!

Of all yoga studios I have been patron of in the past, this one is easily my favorite. Not only can you attend classes that appeal to the pregnant, the new mother, the fitness guru, and the overworked desk job employee with tight shoulders, but you can entrust your child in their care while you do it! There are 2 studio rooms, with classes running concurrently/​overlapping. Like a warm/​hot room for yoga? There is a class for 80 degrees and 90 degrees. Prefer a more relaxed class? There is vinyasa flow too. Want to interact with your baby? There’s Mommy and Me classes available. My two favorites are the yoga pilates class and the yin yoga, though I honestly have not had one negative experience here.

If only I had found this place years ago, I would have been so much more in shape by now. But now that I have found it, I am such a happier person!
I love practicing yoga and have been practicing on and off for about 5 years now. The hardest part for me was finding a clean, comfortable, and economic yoga studio that was conveniently located and provided more classes throughout the day. I am a working student and I have had the experience of attending yoga studios where only one class is offered every 2 hours, so if I missed it by 10 min, I’d have a long wait. I have tried a few yoga studios in San Diego and really nothing beats Hapa Yoga! Not only is the staff helpful and friendly, but the facility is clean and well maintained.
I love the variety of classes they offer as and the fact that they have two yoga rooms makes it easy to get a work out in during the week no matter what my schedule looks like. I have tried almost all of their classes (Sculpt, Joga, Hot As a Mutha, TRX, Barre, and the Powers’) and they have all been wonderful and challenging.
I found this yoga studio out of desperation, when I was starting finals in Spring and knew that I could not go without yoga any longer and it was a blessing I found Hapa Yoga. I cannot express how wonderful this yoga studio is and how friendly everyone is that has help shape a Hapa Yoga family. I am so grateful to have found it and don’t think I ever want to leave it.
If you are in the least bit curious and want to see for yourself, Hapa Yoga offers a $ 40 first month trail, which is an unbeatable deal. Go see for yourself what the hype is all about, and I bet you’ll be as happy as me. :)

I really don’t like yoga. It’s too slow and stretchy and meditative. I like to run around and lift heavy things and feel like I’ve worked out. But everyone keeps telling me that yoga will be good for me, so I keep giving it a try.
This studio seemed promising because they have class options like cardio yoga and yoga for athletes, plus non-​yoga classes like barre workouts and TRX. It turns out that even the non-​yoga workouts have a yoga element (okay, makes sense in a yoga studio). The barre and TRX classes also require a reservation and fill up in advance, so it’s hard to drop in if you end up with unexpected free time. I’m not a good judge, but all of the classes seemed good. The teachers were nice, and offered variations for different levels so that everyone could adjust the difficulty level up or down.
At a regular price of $ 88 per month, this studio is much cheaper that most other yoga studios. They also offer lots of amenities like a nice locker room, showers, and what seems to me like ridiculously cheap childcare ($ 25/​month). If I had kids I would probably come all the time just to get a break.
Th only problem is that they’re a small studio with a limited schedule. The classes don’t start early enough for me to come before work and if I’m working late, I can’t get in one after. A couple of times I had an hour for a class in the middle of the day, but there was nothing offered, or there was only a prenatal class or similar. Their schedule will probably work for most people, but it’s not quite as convenient as a bigger, more expensive place.
At the end of the day, yoga just isn’t my thing. But if it’s your thing and the schedule works for you, this seems like a pretty great place to go.

I really want to like this studio. I bought the groupon for 5 classes and went for the first time last week. I’m pregnant so am limited with the classes I can take. The class kicked my butt in a good way. When I looked at my receipt later though, the wrong groupon was applied. No biggie. I planned to take care of it the next time I went. I tried to go last night to a prenatal class. Unfortunately the mobile website is set up poorly and I misinterpreted the start time and showed up when the class was almost done. When I pointed out the website issue to the front desk girl the response I got was «oh yeah that class is always at 6.» That’s great, but new people looking at the website are very likely to interpret the start time the same as me. She made no indication she would talk to someone about getting the website fixed so this doesn’t happen to someone else.
I feel like I could find a class or two I really like here but the front desk girl first messing up my groupon, and then not taking the website issue seriously is really ruining the studio for me. I will try to upload a picture of the website.

I got the $ 40.00 1 month special and was looking forward to signing up as a member after. Unfortunately, I decided not too. I don’t have any major complaints, except that this studio is way too easy, and not challenging enough.
I’m not an advanced Yogi by any means, but in my experience hot yoga classes I’ve attended were draining, painful and exhilarating afterwards. That’s why I love them… they’re difficult and effective. I have a ton of muscle and I need to work out harder than the average girl to maintain tone. The classes I attended were not hot enough, in fact the 90 was actually cooler than the 80, which was already way too cool. The heat helps you move into the position more effectively as your muscles warm up, and you can’t feel the burn as much, so I feel it’s really detrimental not to have the room as hot as it should be. I don’t know, maybe customers complain when they turn it up high because it’s obvious this studio mostly has beginner students.
Most of the staff is wonderful and kind! Big kudos to the young, attractive brunette teacher in glasses… she was so sweet and gracious to everyone! She was the only teacher truly interested in meeting new students and getting to know them. By far the best I had encountered. There was one older teacher, I think who did one of the power 80 classes, who gave a good class until the end when she seemed offended that some students were exiting before meditation was completely over, and she started making some nasty comments about their character in front of the whole class. That was really inappropriate. Why are there so many mean yoga teachers? At least one in every studio. That totally turns me off. She was obviously a façade of a Yogi.
Being that I am not a pregnant woman, I don’t like the schedule. There is definitely a focus on prenatal yoga here and the best, most effective classes are given little priority. Bottom line is, it’s a good introduction deal if you are a beginner (especially a pregnant beginner), but if you are intermediate and above, there are probably better studios for you out there.

Since it’s my one year anniversary practicing yoga at Hapa Yoga, I thought it appropriate to write an updated review. Five stars, I don’t even have to think about it. Linda is still my favorite instructor, the bathrooms are still immaculate and this is still my yoga sanctuary! It is so nice to find a place that is consistent and welcoming. It helps my practice tremendously.

I attended the Vinyasa class via Class Pass. At first, I wasn’t too impressed by the studio. I had just stopped by Yoga Six, which feels like a spa, so this smaller studio was a big change. However, it’s very clean and well kept. The studio is comfortable and the bathrooms are nice and neat! The only downside is that it costs $ 1 to rent a lock in order to use their lockers. If you choose not to lock up your things, you can leave them in a cubby near the front desk.
The class was held in the small studio. There were only 8 other people attending the class, but space was definitely tight. However, the lighting of the room created a very welcoming and relaxing environment. I really loved the teacher, Melissa. She guided us through a great class! She provided the perfect amount of modifications to challenge experiences students, while keeping the class comfortable for beginners.

To be completely upfront, I have only been here once and it was for a free trial/​first class, so my opinion may not be all that valuable.
That being said, I really liked this place. It’s the first actual yoga studio I’ve been to, and admittedly I was a bit apprehensive. My friend comes here quite frequently and convinced a few of us to drop in for an hour long «cardiyoga» (I think that’s what it was called) class.
Having not been before, I wasn’t sure what to expect and was only basing my assumptions on the one yoga class I had done at 24hour, which was incredibly boring. This class, however, was not. It was extremely fast paced, a great workout, and had fun (non sleep-​inducing) music! I quickly found out how out of shape I was in, and how in shape everyone else was. But I loved it!
The yoga studio is very clean, the instructors are super nice – ours even went out of her way to learn all of the newbies names (which was a nice touch, but also intimidating because she could call us out if we were slacking haha). There’s even a little babysitting room. It’s pretty great, and a good start for a non-​yogi such as myself.

This studio caters to mothers. If you are not a mother, do not go here as you will be made to feel very uncomfortable by the owner, Tina. She treated me with the most disrespect I had ever encountered as a customer. She gave away my spot in a barre class, one of the ones which I regularly attended, she because I had canceled a few times before and thought I wouldn’t come, and wanted to accommodate all of the New Year’s crowd that only sticks around for a couple weeks. At that point I had been attending 6 months.
She said she did this because I was not «two minutes early». ok, i understood and was really nice about it. then, there was a problem with her app when i tried to cancel a couple weeks later, because i got a new debit card and i was a monthly member. because i did not have a card on file, i could not cancel and it didn’t even show that i was signed up for a barre class anymore at that point. i called to give my new number, then the next day I received a receipt fr the next month’s billing and a $ 10 late cancel fee for not canceling 24 hours before a class that was almost empty most of the time as it was at noon on a weekday.
When i reminded her about her giving my spot away a couple weeks prior and asked if she could possibly refund that fee as it was a problem with billing, she responded with an extremely long email that was the most degrading and embarrassing email I had ever received from anyone, especially the owner of a place I was paying monthly dues to attend… She said that it was by her good graces that i was not fined more often, which was completely unfair as I did not late cancel often, and attended classes at least 3 times a week. She made me feel completely unwanted and unappreciated as a customer. She also suggested that I stop taking barre as I «couldn’t seem to abide by their policy.»
As I said, I am not a mother, I am young and fit and take exercise seriously. the studio is very geared towards motherhood and I always felt I was not welcomed there. it is a very catty environment if you do not share in gossip with Tina, which I would often see in the halls and in the lobby. This is my experience, and I wanted to be completely honest so as to help others who are more like me.
