Harina Dulce

First off I want to say that Nichol was very sweet and upon our first time meeting her seemed to be in sync to what our vision was for our wedding cake. With that being said our wedding cake was NOT even close to what we had originally planned it to be. We agreed to a plain olé’ white buttercream cake with gold accents. First off she added bright pink frosting which was NOT even requested, I don’t know if she just randomly thought to add it last minute for some odd reason but it was ugly. I digress, we had agreed to have her hand paint gold leaf on scroll designs for our top tier, she charged me $ 40 for it and the work she did was sadly not even worth that amount. It looked like she got lazy and only did a small portion of scrolls on the side of the cake which to me didn’t look gold but more of a tarnished silver. It looked unfinished to say the least. At this point I was trying to maintain the last thread of positivity I had for our cake thinking that maybe the actual cake itself would be delicious, we were especially excited to try the chocolate Reese’s peanut butter cup tier (my husband like many others, is a hardcore fanatic of anything Reese’s). Lo and behold there was NO Reese’s peanut butter tier which was extremely disappointing after the fact that I had emphasized that I wanted my husband to have that special treat for our wedding. The other flavors were really disappointing as well, not even worth mentioning, I’m a huge cake lover so trust that I know what I’m talking about here (main reason why I chose Harina Dulce, they had great samples the first time I came across them at an engagement event). Long story short I don’t know what went wrong here, Nichol and I would email each other back and forth so communication wasn’t an issue with her. Maybe it had to do with her being included with our venue package at Bahia? Who knows. Our cake was up there on the list of things I was excited for at our wedding and I was so unhappy with the turnaround.

We used Harina Dulce for our wedding cupcakes and cake. They were delicious and looked amazing. We met with Nichol once to do our tasting and she made everything very easy for us to decide.
One tip– labels for each or a «key» to tell which flavors are which for the cupcakes. We had one gluten free kind (for our gluten free guests) and they weren’t sure which to eat. I also think non-​gluten free people kept eating it wondering why it tasted different. Not terrible, just definitely not as good as the others!

Okay, so when I first met Nichol, I was super excited about having her do my cupcakes for my wedding. She seemed very sweet, the price was great and it tasted good! That’s the reason she got the 2 stars. However… SHE NEVER SHOWED UP ON MY WEDDING DAY and I had people running to Albertsons and Ralphs to get cupcakes and cookies and whatever else they could find. So, apparently she did not receive my check in the mail, so she emailed me to let me know I could pay by phone. I emailed her back at like 6am, the day before the wedding to let her know I could pay by phone but I would be running around all day and to call me if I did not call her. Well, she never called and never showed up with the cupcakes. Instead she decided to send me an email at 4pm the day before the wedding to tell me she was canceling the order. Who checks their email on the day of their rehersal??? And why didn’t she have the courtesy to call me like I had requested? When I called her after we returned from the honeymoon, she said it wasn’t «her responsibility» to call me. Then when I asked for our deposit back she refused to give it to us. (However I do want to note that even though she said she wouldn’t, she gave us half of our deposit. But that was after I sent her an email mentioning that I would be writing something on Unilocal). Even so, we did not have a wedding cake and had to make do with Albertson’s cookies all because she decided it «wasn’t her responsibility to call me». I just thought you should know that this is the kind of person you will be working with. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I first tried the amazing cupcakes, prepared by Harina Dulce, at a friend’s wedding and was blown away. The flavors produced in one cupcake, paired with the creamy & moist texture, made for an incredible experience. I can’t wait to place my order for my sister’s bridal shower! Delectable & Delicious! I am not really a cake/​cupcake person, but the first time I bit into a Harina Dulce cupcake I was hooked!!! I order all my birthday cakes & cupcakes from her & without hesitation will refer Harina Dulce to family or friends! A couple weeks ago I had friends from Seattle come into town & wanted to place a LAST minute order and the owner did an amazing job on the cupcakes, was professional and had them ready in time!!! If you are wanting flavorful, moist, delicious & amazing cupcakes, you MUST order from Harina Dulce!!! Great Job & Thank You!!!
