Horizon Park Chapel

This is one of the most honest churches that I’ve ever been to. It is family and from each and every walk of life. It is not too large so you won’t go overlooked and get lost in the crowd! The truth is here and is solid. The messages are never ever watered down but instill truth and hope into every listener. The pastor Rob Glickman is an incredible teacher let alone a funny honest guy who will command your attention regarding important matters and honest biblical issues that will leave you pondering and wanting to come back for the truth.

All I can say is that I heart this church. The pastor, Rob, is an awesome teacher. I like that he teaches so much about biblical history and bridges the gap between Judaism and Christianity considering Christ was Jewish.

I attended the 10:30a.m. service at Horizon Park Chapel on Sunday, July 21, 2013. By way of background (that I’m not sure is relevant), I came to faith in what can be characterized as a mega church. For a while I attended the Rock Church. While I love the Rock Church for contemporary worship, the plethora of community activities, and ulitmately the biblical messages– it’s just too darn big. Even the «small» groups have like 70 people in it.
I want a smaller church community where I can get involved, so I tried Horizon Park Chapel. I could walk to the church from my house, which is a plus. Also, in this neighborhood, there is no problem finding parking if you need to drive.
I was greeted at the door with a program, but wasn’t sure whether to go upstairs or downstairs for the service. I guessed up, and I was right. The service started promptly. The worship can be characterized as contemporary. There were about three guitarist and a drummer. After playing, I realized that one of the guitarist was the pastor. That’s pretty neat.
They sang about three or four songs. We first heard a praise report from a member of the congregation. Looks like there’s a nice cross-​section of people attending. I saw a nice ethnic mix, and it looked like everyone was from different economic backgrounds as well, which is nice. The sermon was on the ten commandments. The pastor is ethnically Jewish, and has obviously studied Hebrew intensively because he referred to Hebrew translations often.
I also saw some «Like» Israel stickers.
Now, this is a touchy subject for Christians, but there are unfortunately two sides to the Israel/​Palestine conflict. I went to a Christian college, and I majored in political science and middle eastern studies. I have my own point of view regarding the Israeli/​Palestinian conflict. Personally, I need to attend church that can balance the biblical and modern perspective on this issue, so I will not be returning to this church. However, if you do not have the conflict that I have, then I would say give it a whirl.
The pastor put up a number where you could text questions during the sermon, and he would address them at the end. I didn’t like this. First, it encourages people to use their phones during church. Weird. People should be focused on the meassge. Second, the Sunday church service isn’t really the place for detailed questions about the message. That’s what small groups and bible studies are for– to delve deeper into the word. There are too many people to just give license to ask questions. But that’s just my opinion.
The service ended at 12:00p.m. I thought the service was a little long.
Other than that, the people were quite friendly and I completely followed the message.
