This was so cute! My husband’s great-grandfather is from Hungary, so we made a special trip to this house. We sampled some delicious pastries, my husband loved the poppy seed pastry the best. We also tried the fried dough with garlic and cheese during December Nights and it was crazy good!

The House of Hungary has one of the larger spaces at the International Village and is filled with all sorts of things Hungary. From the look of things, the people come and gather here every Sunday and talk about the old country while nibbling on their hometown sweets. No one offered us any but I didn’t want to eat anything sweet either so we were quite happy just perusing. Interesting stuff. If you want someone to explain stuff to you, ask someone. I noticed that people at this house isn’t as eager to accost visitors like some of the other houses. Maybe they’re just too busy socializing amongst themselves to notice. Still, a good amount of cool things to look at for the whole family.

We’ve been here for the annual Ethnic Food Fair and Christmas on the Prado(aka December Nights), and we’ve tried the Palascinta(crepes), fry bread, sausage plate, and desserts. It’s all good and very cheap. On Sunday afternoons, they have an open house and may have desserts available for a donation. My husband is Hungarian, and since Hungarian restaurants don’t seem to make it in the San Diego area, this place is pretty much where we get Hungarian food other than when we visit his mom in Cleveland or his mom visits us, or if we want to drive to LA.
