Hyatt Regency La Jolla

I was just awakened (at 4am) by a very loud bubbling toilet!!! So not cool, especially since I fell asleep binging on the Walking Dead… I was for sure one of the walkers had gotten in and I was under attack.
The shower door is also missing half a side, it makes my showers colder! I wish I could find whose idea this was and make them take a shower here at the Hyatt in the cold winter months. Ugh.
The condition of the tub isn’t the best, there’s also this annoying dripping sound for about 5 minutes after every shower.
I’ve previously stayed on higher floor levels, but this time I’m staying on the 3^rd floor. This means I can hear the valet guys’ voices all night, along with all the other hub-​ub going on outside… not good.
So far, this is what I’ve got after just one night, I’m sure there will be additions, stay tuned…

They don’t change the bed spread housekeeping didn’t bother and put the same one on !! Not cool at all !! Breakfast is so so no PANCAKES– we had a nice view and didn’t like hearing people tru the thin walls doing the nasty !!! Wouldn’t come here again.

May the force be with u… Second year out company had our holiday party here, it’s amazing and magical, the theme is Star Wars, the food is amazing… Roasted corn, turkey, tomato bisque, salad with pomegranate dressing…

I feel terrible, but I’m gonna have to downgrade this Hyatt. However, this has nothing to do with the service. Still had excellent service from everyone: valet, maids, room service & front desk clerks. So here’s my problems:
1. Although rooms have been updated, the wallpaper is already showing wear & tear and I saw spots here and there of paint.
2. One of the parking garage elevators wasn’t working properly and I had to drag my bag up a flight of stairs.
3. The Sporting Club closed; you used to get free access as a guest. They now have a much smaller regular hotel gym.
4. No refrigerator in the room (I like to keep my drinks cold).
5. Just a typical 1-​cup brew coffee machine.
6. I have to add that my son & daughter’s room had 2 full beds, but the bathroom «door» was frosted glass. My son’s comment, «If there are 2 beds, shouldn’t it be assumed that we aren’t intimate, thus we should have a door to our bathroom and not frosted glass? Whereas, your room has 1 bed and a door to the bathroom.» haha!
But, still is conveniently located right off the 5 freeway, right across from a Flemings, Melting Pot, etc & still had excellent service.

Typically I stay in DTSD, but decided to stay at La Jolla this time around. Very easy check-​in process as Ben helped me check in. With Platinum status for Gold Passport, you can get access to premium internet, which is much faster than the standard. That was a nice perk, so be sure to ask for it if you are Platinum.
The room was a single king, and I gotta stay, with the way they set the room up, it is a lot spacious than we anticipated. The bed was comfy, and bathroom clean.
I was on the 14^th floor, which had a good view. Definitely try for a higher floor if possible! I could still hear sounds from the holiday party that was happening downstairs at night though which was a bit odd, but it didn’t bother me too much.
Overall a good stay. Things that could’ve been improved on: I did ask for newspaper to be delivered in the morning, but oddly no papers both mornings, and I had to ask for additional toiletries, like shampoo and lotion as they did not provide a new set during service.

I really liked my king room here. I stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed the spaciousness, color scheme (grays, blues, taupes), and view from my 11^th floor room. On the first night I was there, the shower water was lukewarm. I got in, hoping that it would heat up, but it only cooled down. So disappointing, because it was such a large shower with both a rainshower and a regular shower head. I called the front desk after my shower, and they offered to send someone that night or the next day. I selected the next day, and the next day, my shower was working. Come the day after that, the shower water was cold once again. On the way out in the afternoon, I asked the receptionist to have it checked. She was not sympathetic or very inspiring in her tone of confidence that it would be done. Of course, we come back at 11 pm that night, exhausted and in need of a hot shower, and the water was lukewarm at best. We called and they said they’d send someone. Someone called our room and had us run the water for 3 – 4 minutes. 6 minutes pass and the water only got colder. We called again and they said the engineer would flush the system and send someone up. We wait 20 minutes and no one shows. I tested the water on a whim and it was actually hot. Meanwhile, my boyfriend was on the phone with the frontdesk, who said that the engineer was testing it himself and going to stop by the room in a few minutes. After that, the water stayed hot for the rest of our stay. It’s just so weird that this would happen in such a nice hotel. We mentioned we had this issue at checkout, and they very kindly credited us $ 50 for lunch, and comped our upgrade for faster internet ($ 5 value). I am impressed that we were compensated for our troubles and would recommend this hotel. Just beware that there might be hot water issues.

I’m highly mortified and disgusted. The shape of the bathroom was rather repulsive. I had higher hopes for this hotel. I will never ever stay here again. I travel 2 the San Diego area all the time and thought I should try this place out.
Lucky for me I always travel with wipes to clean down bathrooms. You just never know. I went to lift up the toilet lid and came across pure filth and disgust. How could housekeeping miss this. That person should be fired. I informed the front desk and they said they would send the housekeeping manager right up. It’s now been 10 minutes. A huge 0. Deal breaker in my book. Makes you wonder what else they haven’t cleaned and sanitized. I’m mortified.
I’m still waiting!!! After 15 minutes they arrived. Of course the two people that showed up were nice. They took pictures too. However, such an unexceptional practice. The person who was assigned to the room should be fired.
They tried to make it better by adding a $ 50 credit to the room and switched my room ASAP. A nice gesture on their part. However, I will never stay here again. I’ve been to many hotels in this area and have never dealt with such disgust and filth. Human feces all over a toilet and pee. Shame on the hotel.

I am really happy that they accommodated me and my husband for our anniversary, honestly I didn’t ask them to do anything special Because the hotel was last minute decision. My husband and I went to dinner for our anniversary and by the time we came back they had surprised us with champagne and candy on the table! I was very happy since we went to an expensive dinner and didn’t drink as much being pricey and we got a free bottle on them from the hotel! All I told when we were checking in was the front desk clerk Marilyn that we were just celebrating our anniversary and going to dinner. I’m so happy they made our night more special! Thank you thank you Marilyn for making it more wonderful!

Provided hotel management is reading this review, please know in advance that I’d have initially given you all 5 stars (as opposed to the 4 I’ve elected upon going with) had you all been a bit more up on your game.
I consider 4 stars to be a bit generous considering the following:

Stayed here just this past weekend and while I love, love, love La Jolla — my experience has kinda’ left me torn on whether or not I’d stay at this particular hotel again.
Having just visited Maui a few weeks ago, perhaps The Westin Resort out that way has juxtaposed my perception a bit, but when paying premium fare for lodging (let alone anything else), and/​or the establishment alleges themselves to be a luxury accommodation provider, I’m all the more compelled to encompass a higher caliber of expectations.
Pros:
— Decent location boasting excellent panoramic views.
— Amenities: Pool, Lanai w/​fireplace, wifi and a plethora of USB ports for the tech savvy
— …the bedding was next to sleeping w/​God; we’re talking über plush!!!
— Customer service was stellar (we were even greeted by the housekeeper by name upon entering our room).
Cons:
— We’ll get to those…
For any and all reading, this hotel offers 3 parking options, the first is self-​parking. While I’m not certain of just where their garage or structure is, the fare for this is a whoppin’ $ 28.00. The next, is the option of valet, which will deduct $ 32.00 from your checkings and the final, and most practical would be «street» parking — FREE OF CHARGE.
What the reviews as well as 3^rd party sites don’t tell you is that the hotel is located at the top of a hill and parking off-​site becomes nothing short of a workout just to trek over to the hotel. Bearing the fare for the additional 2 options in mind, most guest (s) choose what’s behind «Door # 3» and obtain a space on the street. Doing such however, is virtually impossible.
Thereon, there’s the forage from the street to the hotel itself; try hiking up or downhill (depending on where you park), in the rain w/​luggage and kids.
Uhm …yea. Not the greatest, but there I digress.
We were informed by valet at the point of our arrival that to simply check in, they’d store our auto for 45 minutes allowing us time enough to obtain keys, return and/​or «play the lotto» with attempt at securing a space on the street. This was alleged to be a «free service».
WHY THEN — did we return ½ an hour later after checking in and/​or locating our suite, to find that we’d been billed for this service only for it to take the better portion of 3 – 4 days just to refund monies to my account. (…sighs)?!? This managed to set the tone for our stay.
This hotel conveys an undeniable charm and flare and once again, the beds… Lord have mercy, …yet I noticed spots of, I dunno’ — food, blood, makeup -?, on the lamp shade and hair around the restroom sink.
NOTTT ^ ^ what one anticipates viewing when dishing out $ 200+ for an alleged good night’s slumber.

To further it, the hotel pool, alleged as an amenity for guest (s) of the hotel — is SHARED by neighboring hotels void of such, as well as by local apartment/​condo dwellers residing within neighboring communities.
Really Hyatt? REALLY???
Is this how we’re living???
Last but certainly not least — — - — - and please accept this as being a definite word from the wise, however The Hyatt Regency alleges wifi to be free of charge while ‘enjoying your stay’.
* * * * * THIS IS –NOT– exactly the case.
We possessed tickets to Janet’s concert and while we were provided 2 locations on-​site to view and print them (can’t exactly do that from an iPad), at —no given time— were we made aware that we’d be required to enter credit card information to access the internet (billed at a surcharge — PER MINUTE) only to have to pay additionally to print these things — at $ 1.85 a page (black and white) and/​or $ 2 – 3.00 a page (in color)!
I despise «disingenuous proclamations» and upon awakening the next morning to racket’ conjured by brats playing excessively within the corridor (I attribute this crude behavior to poor parenting) —– upon finalizing our bill and departing, we derived this mantra for The Hyatt Regency:
— - — - — - ARRIVE HAPPY… leave aggrieved and impoverished.

Me and my family stayed here for 5 days in September. Our room was pretty nice two beds nice bathroom, flat screen tv only thing that I did not like about the room was there was no dresser to put our cloths in, there was only a thing in the closet with 3 little cubes for our cloths, everything else in the room was fine. There is a awesome swimming pool great for kids, in the pool area there is ping pong, foosball and cabanas all over its nice and relaxing. Over all we had a good stay here and would stay here again.

I can’t say anything bad about this Hyatt, except for this vague and unsettling feeling of being in a huge building, with huge systems, that is sterile and uninviting. Definitely no noise, the bed was comfy, the bathroom had a strange sliding door which was weird but efficient. The shower had two «rain» style heads that were both clean and the water pressure was great.
The view on the 3^rd floor was of a roof of the next building. It was nice to be able to open a window for some fresh outside air.
I just came away with this empty feeling of having stayed in a huge, sterile maze with unseen robots for all services.
The front desk staff was less than cordial. Very few people actually smiled at us or even tried to connect. We didn’t eat in the restaurants because they were large looking and uninviting… Exactly as the hotel was.

Stayed here this past weekend while visiting SD. I’m a huge Hyatt fan and have elite status with them so have stayed at several different Hyatt properties. While the hotel is beautiful it just seemed rather blasé. The service was pretty lackluster and nobody seemed like they wanted to be there. Parking is $ 25 a night so we just parked on the street and didn’t have any issues. Rooms were very large and clean so that was a plus. Location is okay. About 10 minute drive to the cove and near the freeway for access to downtown San Diego. For the price you are paying, I would have expected better service.

The surrounding is beautiful and location is pretty convenient to access all around San Diego. But there is nothing really to enjoy in the hotel, everything closes so early, even the lounges and club are closed before 10 pm, as well as the pool and jacuzzi.
It is the most boring hotel I have ever stayed. Also, the building focuses to build more rooms than offering recreation areas, the walls and doors are super thin, I could literally hear everything happen in the next door, and hall way.
I haven’t really enjoyed anything after I came back to my room, I just had a place to sleep. Only thing I love about my room is the view and the soft clean slippers.

The place is so large, and so much is going on, that it’s impossible for one reviewer to get a grip on the whole operation. You probably shouldn’t take my three-​star rating that seriously. On the other hand, I hope that you’ll find some of my comments to be of use.
During my stay, one friend quipped that the best thing about being inside the Hyatt is that you don’t have to look at the building from the outside. That’s a good joke, but here are a few more serious negative comments:
There was outdoor smoking near the front door — blech! The smokers tended to go for big smelly cigars.
Walls were thin. Lying in bed at night, I could hear conversations, peeing, toilet flushing,…
My shower was separated from the bathroom by a glass panel, but the glass panel insisted on being angled out, so that water spilled onto the floor. I couldn’t correct this by trying to move the panel.
Here’s what this hotel is aiming to be:
«Grand Hyatt hotels provide global travelers with luxurious accommodations and spas, dramatic architecture, multiple exceptional restaurants and bars, and state-​of-​the-​art technology to create memorable experiences in gateway cities and magnificent resort locations.»

Despite my negative, I do think that this Regency lives up to the brand description pretty well. There’s plenty of high-​end stuff: the pool, the public areas, the six or more restaurants, the ballrooms,… Not everything that I saw was «luxurious,» but this is a big step up from the Residence Inn where I have often stayed! The hotel is, in particular, a conference venue. For example, there was a pet food group in town while I stayed at this Hyatt.
I got a very good deal on my room and somehow managed to acquire lounge privileges to boot. The lounge is certainly very nice; the food is better than what you get at a Marriott lounge. My impression is that Hyatt lounges are more exclusive than those at Marriotts. I was possibly the only non-​high roller in the diamond-​level breakfast room.

When it comes to Hyatt hotels this is my favorite one in La Jolla. The minute you arrive you are greeted with a smile and welcome. When you arrive you feel like you are on vacation. The people at the front desk are very friendly. All the staff from the front desk to housekeeping are super friendly. You have to give credit to the hotel manager and his staff for an excellent job they do.
I love the location as it’s minutes from the freeway. It’s located in the heart of beautiful La Jolla. If you are coming to spend time at the cove or just relax at their great pool. You will enjoy every minute of your stay. This is the only hotel stay when I come to town.

This review is for the conference room and the breakfast catering only. The room is freezing but the acoustics are great.
The food: the fruit and granola parfait pretty yum. Giant spoons though. Also they provided eggs, fruit, bacon. First time I have been at a conference where they have given a hot breakfast. Nice touch.
But the coffee. I think it’s weird. Tastes like cloves. Is that weird? Kind of make up for it with offering soy milk as an option and flavored carmel syrup. But no vanilla syrup!

Pros:
— Fantastic location: right by UCSD, 15min drive from La Jolla town/​cove, 15min drive from Torrey Pines. If you want to venture downtown, easy 20−30in as well. Being right next to several chain, but very good, restaurants are also fantastic to reduce any unnecessary driving.
— Very good customer service per usual on Hyatt’s I’ve been to.
— Updated rooms with sufficient amenities.
— Very large hot tub by the pool area.
— Great happy hour at Michael’s downstairs.
Cons:
— Having to pay for parking. And having to take 2 separate elevators to get from parking to room (just an inconvenience).
— No bar by the pool.
— We had to walk through the area where a conference was being hosted from the pool back to the hotel (kinda awkward in our bathing suits and towels…)
Would definitely stay again if in the area.

This is a majestic looking hotel — especially with it sitting on a hilltop. One can tell a lot of attention was given to the interior design to give you a glamorous vibe.
Stayed here for a night. Great hotel for those running La Jolla Half. Close enough to drive to the LJ cove where the race folks shuttle you to the start line (15 minutes drive).
Pros:
1) Room was clean and very spacious. Rooms were very quiet = awesome walls. High five!
2) Parking is FREE for hotel guests, but for some reason the key cards were not activated. However, with a press of a button, a parking attendant or staff service can lift the parking garage gates.
3) Conveniently located to the freeway and shopping/​dining venues.
4) FREE Starbucks coffee at the lobby– as early as 5 am. There is also a Starbucks bar by the concierge desk — according to Jules B. who brought me coffee (gotta love that sexy chic).
5) Staff provided excellent customer service. Very prompt with meeting our requests for free towels, etc.
6) Rooms did not have a fridge or microwave… but I’ve read some reviews say you can request for them.
7) Outlets were not conveniently located close to the mirror. Reminds me lots of the Biltmore Hotel in LA set up — old, but fancy.
Cons:
1) Hotel felt outdated from the moment I drove into the garage. The garage setup was confusing — similar to parking structure at Horton Plaza when getting off the elevators.
2) $ 25 parking fee for the night for non-​hotel guests.
3) The rooms were bright so if you like sleeping in total darkness — this may not be the hotel for you. The blinds do not completely block off the light from outside the hotel.
4) Room can use better lighting.
5) They do not provide enough toiletries, but will give you some upon request.
Great venue for event and parties. My firm has used this hotel several times for Holiday/​client events. Overall… great hotel aesthetically! Can make improvements to make accommodations better for guests.

This hotel is FAN-​tastic!
We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend this past year, and seriously had a blast! The Hyatt Regency was located within a few miles of the La Jolla Coves where we planned to visit the next day. And they had great reviews with a good price. We got a 2 Queen bed room, with a view of the front of the hotel entrance, and part of the city. Very pretty really. There is a small Starbucks next to the check in desk, and a resturant at the end, directly across from the desk across well. Check in was a breeze and we went to our room. The room was actually spacious for being just a room and a bathroom. The windows also opened a fair amount, which was handy for my smoker (yeah, non-​smoking rooms and all… we covered it up pretty well haha!) And the curtains were nice and thick, keeping the sun out of the east facing windows. The bathroom was huge as well, with a funky bathtub/​shower combo. The door was this oddly shaped half of a glass door, that kind of folded outwards? Its really hard to explain, you’d have to see it to get it haha. It didn’t really do much in terms of keeping the water spray from getting on the floor, so you have to put a towel down in order to avoid slipping when you get out!
They have an outdoor area with a few fire pits and a large fireplace, all with seating for multiple people. It was a nice place to cozy up with a drink from the bar and relax after a long day. The pool area was huge, with swimming lanes and a general group area. The jacuzzi was just as roomy with plenty of room for atleast 20 people. The pool area also had an all you can eat special buffet while we were there, with a wristband for unlimited drinks (alcoholic and non), and unlimited buffet access. The buffet served waffles, fruit, biscuits, sandwiches, and pastries as well as a few fancy desserts. All of which were extremely yummy! Even the room service delivery options were delicious, limited, but yummy.
The winning point for this hotel is that, when I got home, I realized a very special bracelet was missing. I called the hotel right away and asked if I had left it there. They took my info, saying they would check with housekeeping and call me back. After 2 very long hours, they finally called me back saying it was on the desk and they could mail it to me. Unfortunately, I did have to pay like $ 20 for the UPS 2 day shipping service they use, but it was worth it. I got my bracelet back, and the hotel was prompt about getting it back to me.
I would definitely stay here again if I was visiting the La Jolla area again. Its extremely nice and the staff is really pleasant. 5 stars!

Prior to the 2013 room renovation, this place was very run down for the price. Now it’s working its way back up in value.
I’ll start with the complaints. If you park a car here, you’re going to be parking in a poorly lit dungeon with some of the smallest spaces I’ve ever encountered. Don’t believe me? Check out the picture of my red piece of crap Chevy Spark miniature rental car nearly consuming the entire space. You’re pretty much guaranteed to get door dings here so if you have a nice car, I’d recommend using the valet. To add insult to injury, the parking garage price for hotel guests, $ 20/​day, remained the same even after they fired all of their parking staff and replaced them with automated boxes. Yes, the garage is run by a third party, but it’s not like Hyatt doesn’t have any pull there.
There are a lot of add-​on fees. $ 20/​day to self park. $ 15/​day fee for mediocre internet. Fee if you need a small fridge brought to your room for medicine or breast milk. Fee for local calls. Although, on the plus side, they have not implemented a resort fee like some other Hyatt’s who aim to make you hate them.
Finally, the new rooms. They look very nice. Functionality-​wise, the new bathrooms are much improved. For the rest of the room, the looks are the only improvement. Unfortunately, to make the rooms look more spacious, they sacrificed what had been a dresser. They made up for this by putting shelves into the closet that take half the closet, so now you only have half a closet to hang things. I found that I could fit about five business suits and shirts on the hanging portion and that was it. That hanging area is shared with the ironing board as well, so you’ll have that out sitting in the middle of the room to give you more closet space. The night stands /​end tables do not have drawers.
On the good side of things; this location is very accommodating and attentive for conference bookings and they have a good size main ballroom as well as a few other smaller venues. They have a very good exercise room with plenty of equipment, towels, cold towels, five or six treadmills, ellipticals, stair stepper, etc. The cleaning staff have always been super helpful and do a mostly good job. They’ll give you a Wall Street Journal on week days.
Room service is typically pretty good. In fact, they used to have an egg white fritatta on the menu that disappeared with the remodel, but they continue to make it for me anyway.
The on site bar Michaels is nice and has some good food options, but the liquor drinks are over priced and a bit on the weak side. Long Island is $ 12 or $ 15 for example. One of the servers I encounter regularly will usually be able to get it topped off for me though so it helps to be friendly if you get a bad drink.
There is a very very good on-​site restaurant called Café Japengo that has a sushi bar that I love.
