Established in 2009.

Several members of our Team worked for one of the largest Paver/​Synthetic-​Turf/​Design companies in the United States for over 6+ years absorbing as much knowledge/​experience as one could absorb. The next step was to start our own company. In our discovery process, we found many opportunities to make the system better, much better! We exposed the fact that all of the companies buy their material from the same manufacturers and most of them subcontract the work out to the same group of installation crews which contain all different levels of experience.

Tim Thomas — Co-​Founder/​President

Originally from Los Angeles, graduated from SDSU in 1988 with a business degree in marketing. I was brought up in a construction environment. My father is a long time general contractor, building pools and amazing custom homes.

I owned several businesses including a triathlon store (Tri-​Sport in San Diego, La Jolla & Del Mar from 1989 – 1996), a bar and grill in Pacific Beach, and spent 8 yrs in the wireless telecom industry.

My hobbies include: former competitive swimmer, runner, tri-​athlete, including 8 iron-​mans, over 15 marathons and over 100 other running events/​triathlons. I have 2 wonderful children ages 14 and 18.

Not surprised at all about how well Install-​It-​Direct is reviewed. Our backyard was a huge mass of weeds and it got to the point where we were depressed to even go outside. A big makeover is a huge project and so we had been putting it off. Then we found out about the HERO program and decided to pull the trigger. We got bids from a couple other companies, and the quotes we got were either outrageously high or poorly detailed so that we didn’t know what to expect.
Enter Shawn Higgins and IID. Shawn is a personable, down-​to-​earth, professional who provided us with the initial consultation and was our point-​man throughout the project. He walked us through all steps from design, demo, and installation. He broke down the cost at every step and went above and beyond to work with us to make the project fit our needs. Because we wanted to be sure we were going with the right company, he even came out to the house no less than 3 times to go over different options BEFORE we even made the final decision to sign up with him!
Despite it being a busier time of year, we were able to start only a couple weeks after the consultation, and the crew was fantastic. Everything went completely on schedule and on budget. There were a couple design things we wanted to change midway through, and Shawn worked with us to make it happen. Johnny was the main foreman for our crew, and he did an awesome job of keeping us involved with all the details of the project every step of the way. Its true that most of the crew had spanish as their first language, but they spoke decent english as well, and Johnny was always there to clear up anything lost in translation.
The price was very reasonable, the work was top-​notch, the job was done on-​time and according to the agreed budget, communication was perfect, and all-​in-​all we always had that intangible warm, fuzzy feeling when working with Shawn and IID. We had a Bocce ball court installed and Shawn even gave us a professional Bocce ball set as a thank you gift! Total class act and would recommend them to anyone. Thank you Shawn and IID!

Install-​it-​Direct did all the most important things wonderfully. Their customer service was top notch. Their scheduling was prompt and flexible. Their timeliness was fantastic. Their pricing was reasonable. And, most importantly, the quality of their work was phenomenal.
We had them do a retaining wall in our backyard and they had to move a ton of dirt and debris out. They got the job done quickly and consulted with me each step of the way. James was our point of contact and he was invested in us being happy with the result. He was creative in proposing ideas for us but did not try to upsell us on anything. I cannot tell you how refreshing that was after meeting with numerous contractors who all wanted to add lights and firepits and purgulas and other accessories that we simply aren’t in a position to afford. .. yet.
When we are, I won’t hesitate to come back to Install-​It-​Direct. Thank you James, Jose and everyone who worked on our home. We love it.

We love love love Install-​It-​Direct. The prices are amazing (couldn’t find a better price) and the quality of the work is an A+. Dustin did the design of our backyard and front yard. We had a vague idea of how we wanted things to look but Dustin was able to take our ideas and create a beautiful design. Tim, the owner, was very responsive and returned calls/​emails timely. These guys did an excellent job. Shawn Higgins (my rep) followed through on everything he promised, the crew had great attitudes and worked hard and went above and beyond the call in my opinion. Very competitive bid and they stuck to it plus did some extras that I needed for very reasonable rates. I would highly recommend them without hesitation.

Very happy to recommend this company after they turned my backyard into something to be proud of. Tim, the owner, came along with the project manager to troubleshoot our challenging backyard which was rocky, uneven and had massive rocks just under the surface. They spent considerable time coming up with the best way to tackle our project and provided a quote that was well below what other companies offered. They ended up putting in a paver patio with a retaining wall and finishing the remaining yard with turf. It was a major project with no direct access so the workers had to carry buckets of gravel and pavers by hand up stairs into our backyard area.
I gave 4 instead of 5 stars only because sometimes communication was lacking. Days that we expected workers no one would show, another day 1 person came for only a few hours, and a few times we were told they’d be coming over the weekend to make up some time missed but they never came.
Overall, we are thrilled with our yard and would definitely recommend this company to others.

The best! Can’t say enough things about this company, especially their landscape architect Dustin. I was looking to have both pavers & turf installed in a townhome front & back yard. I received quotes from a big name turf company, two local landscapers, and Install-​It-​Direct. We were looking for design, demo, & installation. In the end, the quotes from the big name turf company and Install-​It-​Direct were very close, however the thing that sealed the deal for me was Dustin — Install-It-Direct’s project manager & landscape architect. Just an amazing all around guy, with lots of experience who made us feel like we were in great hands.
During the design phase (which we did prior to actually selecting IID), Dustin came out to our home several times to help us through the parts that we couldn’t envision. In the end, we signed on, paid the initial deposit, and they scheduled us for an install date.
The crew that did the work was great and they worked their tails off. I don’t remember all of their names, but I bought them lunch the final day because I wanted to say thanks for all of the hard labor they had to do. They filled an entire dump truck with the existing decking, flagstone tile, dirt, and concrete. It was a hot 2 days of demo, but they hustled the entire time. The complete installation flew by in another 2 days following the demo. The next day the owner — Tim — came by and sealed the pavers personally.
Bottom line — we couldn’t be happier. Install-​It-​Direct operates like a small company with great customer service, yet they have the resources of a large installer with great pricing.

This review is for their customer service and initial consultation with Dustin.
We wanted to start our landscaping as soon as possible and contacted Install-​It-​Direct for an estimate. From the beginning, I was impressed with their friendly and prompt customer service. The day I called their office, I was immediately transferred to Dustin who arranged to come out to our house 3 days later. He was flexible with our work schedule and came on time. He thoroughly reviewed our design plans, answered all our questions, and came back 1 week later with a detailed break down for their quote. It was reassuring that they would guarantee the price assuming the design and material stayed the same. Comparing Install-​It-​Direct to other estimates we received, their bid was competitive.
Running into unprofessional, incompetent, and rude contractors during this process, it was refreshing to meet someone like Dustin. Unfortunately we went with another contractor due to our urgent timeline but I wanted to highlight the great customer service we received.

We are very happy with the results of our paver project using Install-​It-​Direct. From our first meeting with James to working with the installers Jose, Israel, and crew, they were all pure professionals. Everyone was very experienced and knew exactly what to do to make the project look perfect. they showed up when they said they would and worked hard. Pavers take hard work to install them correctly and all involved knew exactly what they were doing. Along the way, James made some suggestions, and we were glad to have his experience and knowledge to help add the finishing touches that make this project turn out amazing.
Install-​It-​Direct does not just install, they make sure that you are satisfied and their work is top-​notch. If you are even «considering» having them install pavers or Turf, stop considering, and call them right now! We are so glad we did. Thanks James, Jose, Israel and crew on an amazing job.

We’ve just started installation with Install it Direct for a patio, driveway, 5 foot wide staircase in our sloping front yard and are building an 18 inch retaining wall around our front yard property. We are investing $ 21,000.00
Without a bobcat they «excavated» the by hand in one day.
They have a large crew who are largely non-​English speaking. There was a lot of Spanish speaking and confusion on the first and second day regarding the drawing for work. They built sharp cornered walls where they were to be rounded. They told me the area was too tricky for rounded corners, but I really wanted rounded corners on the walls leading to the stairs. They complied, but on side of the wall cuts are not professional looking, but they have corrected these mistakes.
In fairness, the drawing they had to work with is not-​to-​scale. I’ve come to the conclusion there was not an understanding of the full scope of the project up front and many of the problems are a consequence of that.
Install it direct has timely addressed concerns but I shouldn’t have to do the job of quality inspector nor should I explain how to fix problems. Right now we are working to resolve problems pertaining to erosion control by my steps and it looks like our pillars might have to be moved for a third time.
Despite the issues the company owner and sales person really care about getting this right and I hope the owner gets involved to take a look at what’s happened so far.
On the positive my pavers are beautiful and so is the stone used for my walls. I like the response time via email and texting with my sales rep and she comes to our home daily. It has been easy to build a relationship with her. I believe and trust the owner to help me get this project reworked to satisfaction. I only ask they have a quality assurance person on site so I can avoid trying to have conversations with the on-​English crew.

We are very satisfied with the work Install-​It-​Direct has done. We had a big project — demolished the old driveway, redo a stone wall with steps, and replaced the entire front yard lawn with pavers. From the beginning, James was professional and organized. He was willing to work with us on some additional things we wanted, such as adding drainage pipes and saving some of the plants.
The price quoted was very competitive, and the work started on time as planned.
The workers came before 8 every day and were all very polite and respectful. Whenever we had questions or wanted to make adjustments, James was always responsive and ready to provide us with answers.
Even though the work took a bit longer than planned, we are very happy with the result. We would certainly recommend Install-​It-​Direct to our friends and families!

We are so happy with the work Install It Direct did on our backyard. We needed to do something about the dirt and rocks that had been exposed after all our grass died from lack of watering. One of our dogs kept eating the rocks and we knew it was only a matter of time before he ate one that put him in the hospital. Plus, both dogs tracked a ton of dirt and dust into the house. We finally decided to make all our lives easier by upgrading the backyard.
From start to finish, the employees at Install It Direct made what could have been a painful experience really very pleasant. Our design consultant, James, worked with us to get the project to a size we could afford, but still met our ultimate goals. Lidia, the construction coordinator, was patient in working with our schedule since we had to wrap up other projects before we could begin the yard. And the crew, they did an amazing job. They arrived on time and ready to go, and in just two days transformed our backyard. We basically went from thunderdome, to a backyard where we can lay out with our dogs or just entertain without embarrassment. And our dogs love it!
Bottom line, we love our yard and would highly recommend Install It Direct.

Install-​it-​Direct recently replaced our old dying grass with synthetic grass and our driveway and front entrance with pavers. They did a wonderful job and I highly recommend them. Mike, our service advisor, was friendly and quick to respond to our inquiries (he personally oversaw the project from beginning to end). Our project was pretty large and they competed it on time and with no additional costs. They are reasonable, efficient and very professional. Our front and back yard are beautiful thanks the the wonderful job they did!

James and his crew were able to come to my house on short notice, give me a fair quote, and start work within one week. It was NOT an easy task. A heavy root system and lots of reinforced concrete needed to be removed. They worked hard and all of my requests were always met with a «let’s get it done right» attitude. I’ll be using Install it Direct for future projects

After a couple of bids from different contractors, I found Install-​It-​Direct. James came out and we talked about what I would like to see done to my front yard. He understood my requirements and he also made suggestions.
James showed me a portfolio of different types of structural walls and turf. I ended up going with Belgrade because it closely matched my home color scheme but was still a bit different.
James was in contact throughout the process from start to finish. The crew showed up on time and kept the area clean. They careful not to damage the existing grass and plants while the work was done.
I love how it turned out. I would definitely recommend Install-​It-​Direct to anyone looking for an easy process from start to finish.

We hired Install-​It-​Direct to redo our front and back yards after receiving multiple bids from contractors. Their bid was competitive and Mike did a great job listening to what we wanted, and putting together a cost-​effective plan for us. Unlike some other companies we spoke with, IID’s bid was itemized, so we could clearly see how much more it would cost to go with a different type of paver or turf.
We installed a combination of pavers, artificial turf, mulch, and gravel. The crew, led by German, was incredibly skilled and hard-​working; it was amazing to see how much progress they made every day of the job. Communication was great– Mike visited the site every day to check on progress– and the finished product is even better than we’d imagined.
We went from a weed-​filled disaster area to a beautiful, usable yard. The job started on time, was finished ahead of schedule, and they did a very thorough job cleaning up. We couldn’t be happier. Highly, highly recommended.

My husband and I moved into a brand-​new home and we were required to landscape the place asap. We were torn between turf/​pavers and plants/​trees/​concrete. We are first time homeowners, so we were completely lost.
We were referred to Mike at Install-​it-​direct by a friend. Mike did an amazing job on their backyard. First off, they were very communicative, and Mike was able to come out to our home on a Saturday and look at the backyard for us. He took his time with measuring and explaining the process of pavers and turf to us. He brought samples for our HOA, and when we told him about our strict HOA, he informed me that they have never been rejected by an HOA.
He gave us a quote right on the spot. We did inform him that we were also meeting with other landscapers for other bids. In the end, we ended up choosing the plants/​trees/​concrete, so we did not end up hiring Install-​It because they do not do plants, etc.
When I informed Mike of our decision, he was incredibly kind. I was expecting him to be upset, but he handled it with such professionalism.
Seriously, if you want pavers/​turf, this place is the place to hire! Get Mike if you can!

These guys just finished up with our yard and we could not be happier. The backyard was originally covered in dirt, bark, and random plants — not ideal for a house with 2 dogs. They turned it into a dog/​entertaining paradise by covering about 75% of the yard with pavers and 25% with turf. They were the only company out of the 3 we spoke to who was able to install a gas line so we could have a gas fire pit. It looks so good!
The crew was professional and fast. The original estimate was 10 days; they finished it in 6. Plus they added details that were not even in the plans just to ensure the finished product looked great. If you need a yard makeover, this is the company to go to!
