I just moved to San Diego, and I was convinced that I would not find anyone that could take care of curly hair (since I moved from DC, and I was in Black Hair Mecca). Well I went to Jason based on Unilocal reviews, and I was NOT disappointed. He is simply amazing. He is reasonably priced. He can straighten, curl, cut, and color curly hair of all textures. He can also put in clip-​in extensions. He will also teach you how to maintain your curls. He is very honest with you and will not do something just to make money (like a lot of hair stylists I know).
Also, he is very funny and overall nice person to be around! Since he is in high demand, always book an appointment way in advance especially if you want something done on the weekends or after 5 PM on weekdays. He usually doesn’t answer calls immediately, but if you just leave a message you will definitely get a call back within a couple hours at most.

So i’ve been meaning to make a Unilocal for a while, and going to Jason finally made me do it. He is amazing. I went in for my appointment and he dealt with just me the whole time. Anything i asked him he was happy to answer.
The salon is very comfortable and its not awkward. Jason will actually talk to you and he is pretty funny. I went in for a wash and press and trim. He did the wash and condition, then when it came to blow drying, he was very gentle and took his time. I really appreciated it. After, he flat ironed and was very attentive. I asked him how i would look with bangs, and he was actually honest with me. Bangs arent for me! LOL. Especially being natural. Thats something i appreciate and value. You can tell he wouldnt send you out of his shop looking crazy. And when he trimmed my hair, i asked him how much was dead hair and he was honest. About an inch and a half. And i was just fine with him trimming just that. Im not one of those people that are gonna be like you trimmed too much! If its dead, cut it.
Another thing i appreciate is the price. It was expected. Not super expensive. The place i went before, no names, charged me 112 dollars just for a wash and press alone. Insane! Jason is very good at what he does. If you have any type of curly hair give him a visit. I will definitely be back.

So just moved to San Diego and was looking to find someone to give my hair life honey! Found Jason on here and decided to give him a try. Right when I walked in the door I knew it was on! He introduced himself, knew my name (I’ve been to some places where they were like who are you? You have an appointment? I’m runnin an hour late so just have a seat) lol anyways throughout my whole appointment he let me know what he was doing to my tresses, why he was doing it and if I had any questions. I was so shocked because I’ve never been explained certain aspects about my hair but thanks to Jason I feel so much more informed! Now that I think about it I’ve been to some ratchet ass places lol but never again. Thank you Jason you are the bomb dot com!

Jason is amazing with my daughters hair. He’s done a keratin treatment last year which came out beautiful and lasted for a good amount of time. He knows the art of cutting hair, and what’s nice is that you can tell he has a passion for what he does. The cut and style he gave her today is so cute on her face, that my daughter (teenage) keeps asking me to stop staring at her (but she looks adorable to me…)
What I really loved about the first time we went to him for a consultation, was the tips and suggestions that he gave my daughter on how to care for her hair naturally and gave her numerous style ideas on what she can do with her pretty curls. He takes his time and is honest. I really took my time finding the right person to care for her hair, and I’m glad we ended up with Jason. On top of his talents, he’s just a nice person in general.

Okay, so first a little bit about my hair:
I have extremely thick, curly hair that I wear curly the majority of the time. I have been to a lot of stylists in the past… In fact, I make it my business to only deal with stylists who have experience with my hair type.
I found Jason on Unilocal after being fed up with driving to LA to spend $$$$ for okay service and a good haircut. I tend to have better results getting my curls trimmed when straight because it is harder to get the ends as neat with a curly cut.
Okay, now for the experience:
— I love that Jason does not double book. He spends your entire appointment on YOU not making you wait in a bowl, under a dryer, while he deals with someone else. I also really appreciated that he valued my time and got me in and out (and fabulous).
— he is extremely gentle with curls and did not over do it on the heat.
— he listened to what my hair goals were for color and length.
— my hair looks super smooth and bouncy and I will definitely be back!

We have an interesting situation in my house. My nearly 15 year old daughter has EXTREMELY curly hair… tiny tight curls. My hair is straight as a stick, and her sister’s has some wave but nothing like these curls. So I’ve been at a loss for the past 5 years on what to do to help her care for it. I’ve read curly hair blogs, I’ve consulted with a good friend whose kids are mixed (black and white) ethnicity, I’ve taken her to my own hair stylist. We’ve done the brazilian blow out. But we’ve been at a loss for what to do on a day to day basis to care for her very thick, curly, dry hair.
My girlfriend referred me to her black hair stylist, warning me about the phenomenon of the «black hair salon»… that I should be prepared to spend several hours there. Really? I thought SURELY there must be an alternative! So I Unilocaled, and found JASON!
Now, you’re probably looking at all these 5 star reviews thinking no one can be this good. I suggest you read the details. He doesn’t just cut and style hair well (and he DOES an AMAZING job with that), it’s very much about the quality of the service! I used to have to DRAG my daughter to the salon… once a year if I was lucky… and now she wants to know when we can see Jason again! She has NEVER felt that way EVER! What made Jason stand out is:
1) he asked questions to learn about her hair and existing routine
2) he’s personable and funny… put her at ease… and as I said, she normally dreads the hairdresser. not anymore!
3) he gave us several options for how we could best manage her amazing head of hair
4) he explained everything he did, and why he would and wouldn’t do things to her hair
5) he doesn’t try to upsell products or services (in fact he said we should perfect our routine using everything we already have at home, before moving on to any pricier products)
6) in my opinion, he is very reasonably priced for the amount of work that goes into that hair
I left the salon feeling like we had a curly hair class that was topped off with a fantastic hairdo! The next time we came back (about 4 months later), we did a flat iron and dry cut, for a completely different look. WOW. I now have 2 sets of pics to post of Jason’s incredible work. I’m so impressed, I’m cheating on my hairdresser of 25 years and I’m going to have him cut and color my hair. How’s that for a recommendation?

**UPDATE**
So my mom recently went to get her hair done with Jason as well and she told me that I just had to leave a review for her! She is head over heels in love with her hair! Like mine, it also had an amazing shine and because she had her hair curled… it had a great bounce to it as well! She loved how easy her new cut was and how it didn’t require much work. Her hair looks amazing on her and she loved the loose curls she got for Valentine’s Day! Jason is both of our favorites and I recommend him to everyone! If he can get through my mom’s thick (thick, thick, thick) hair… then he can do ANYONE’S.

I just saw Jason again for the second time, and he is literally BEYOND the best of the best. I’m mixed (black/​hispanic and others) so I have had some bad experiences as well as not so great ones. I was terrified to try out a new person. Jason knows that all mixed hair is different, and it takes a certain process to tame and cut it. He only uses the best products and it definitely helps. He is very knowledgable, funny, and just a joy to be around. My hair has never been this straight or stayed this straight as long before. My cut is flawless, and that is no easy feat. My hair grew so much since the last time I saw him. I highly recommend you go see him, you’ll be so glad you did. Thanks Jason!

Wow I am so very thankful to have found Jason he is my hair hero! He really and truly is an expert in all hair types. I have curly mixed hair and after having my daughter a lot fell out it was so damaged and just a mess. I was embarrassed to even go get my hair done it was in such bad shape anyway long story short Jason rescued it. Im calling to book maybe my 5^th appointment now. fyi he books up pretty fast

Before coming out to San Diego my stylist searched for someone in San Diego who could handle my hair. I have very tight curls and no perm and my hair is difficult to manage, until it (my hair) met Dr. Jason. He truly knows his business and continues to amaze me. Yes the secret is out Jason you are the BEST !

I’ve lived in San Diego for 6 years and been seeing Jason for 2. I’m mixed (black and white), so it took a while to find someone who really understands my hair AND has good service. Jason is a hair God. My hair is longer and healthier than ever. Jason never tries to sell me on anything to up-​charge me. He is honest, and knows what he is talking about, so I always listen to him:) He is phenomenal at what he does, and he is an awesome person to get to spend a few hours with. He is hilarious, a good listener, always has great stories to tell… he is just an all around wonderful person, and I can’t begin to say enough good things about him. If I win the lotto, I’d have him do my hair every day.

I just love my Jason. Been seeing him for over a year now and me and my hair love him!!! I’ve got short, choppy hair, used to have very long hair and after cutting it off, eventually found Jason who just ‘gets it’. Not only short choppy hair but coloring gray hair and meeting client expectations and/​or being honest about them. I figure that having hair as short as mine must be ON POINT, and mine always is, thanks to Jason. Thank you Jason, for being you! MWAH!!!

First let me start off saying that, I am a hair stylist myself and Jason is the only person that touches my hair. He is fabulous! As an African American female it is hard to find someone of a different race that understands my hair. He is great at color correction and grey coverage. He has been doing my hair for years and I love it.

I FINALLY FOUND THE PERFECT STYLIST.
I am a curly girl and most of my life I would not embrace my natural curls because I didn’t know how to care for it, style it, or properly cut it. I’ve been to too many different salons in San Diego that did not know how to give my hair the proper cut for texture like mine. but recently I’ve been on a difficult search for that stylist. I’ve done all my research and I finally found Jason at a little shop off Kensington. I decided after his amazing reviews that I would give him a call. I left a message for him and he immediately called me back. He asked me a question that no other stylist has ever asked before. «How do you normally cut your hair. Wet or dry?» I was a little surprised because I didn’t know it mattered at all being that no one asked me this before .
I prepared Jason with a little info about my hair and all of its damage before I came in.
At my appointment I showed him some photos off Pinterest that I’d like my hair to resemble and Jason knew exactly what to do. He pretty much gave me a presentation about my own hair ! He told me what went wrong and explained what steps I needed to take to improve the damage. The part I love the most during my appointment was that he showed me how to style my hair myself at home !! He even gave me makeup tips for a wedding I’ll be attending soon :) I love Jason and his techniques as a stylist he is one of a kind and I can’t wait to go back in a few months !!

AMAZING!!! I’ve lived in San Diego for close to 15 years and I’ve bounced from stylist to stylist trying to find someone who can do my hair (I am mixed… black and white). Until I met Jason, often I would leave a salon with my hair mostly straight and as soon as a break a sweat or the wind blows too hard, I start to notice my hair waving up at the scalp. By day two, my hair is curly and poofy and I’ve wasted my money. That all changed with Jason! Not only did he understand how to deal with hair like mine, he beat it into submission. With Jason, my hair has stayed straight for over a week… and that is with humidity (I’m talking about down South humidity).
I will never have anyone touch my tress but Jason.

I travel a lot for work. It’s always a challenge to find a stylist from city to city that understands curly hair so I turn to Unilocal… and the reviewers here did NOT get it wrong. Jason is fantastic!
In addition to knowing the rules that curls follow, Jason gets it that no two curly heads are alike. He took time to discuss with me how I like to wear and style my hair. I like big hair! I have no interest in straightening or fighting the natural curl pattern. We discussed products and techniques I can use while I’m in California to battle dryness and frizz. He also gave me some makeup tips while I was there.
The location is easy to find and I found street parking easily enough close by. The facility itself is cramped and a little less than impressive. The stylist in the front room was coughing and her hair & clothing were a hot mess which made me wonder what I might be in store for, but Jason’s area is more private and he is both stylish and a great conversation. No awkward chair moments there.
I will be back and look forward to finding out if he’s as good with color as he is with my curls.

I have been getting my hair done by Jason for a year now. He is an amazing hair stylist. I have naturally curly hair which can be ruined if not cut right. He understands how to cut and texturize ethnic hair. I have had my hair straigthened as well and it turned out beautiful.
Today I decided that I wanted to go short as that is what is in style. I was a little bit nervous as I have always had long hair. Jayson mixed 3 in high and low lights and gave me a gorgeous cut. My friends are all giving me a lot of compliments. I also take my teenage son to Jason because he gives him the cool cuts that you see in magazines.
I am so happy that I listened to the positive Unilocal reviews and not the one negative review. I am super picky and have only allowed 3 people to cut, color and straightener my hair the past 20 years. Jason is one of them. He has excellent prices and gives me good advice when I am wanting styles that my not suit my hair type or facial/​bone structure. TRULY an ARTIST!

Okay so here’s my Jason miracle worker story. I came to him wanting platinum bleach blonde hair and I am a half Jamaican dark haired woman. He took on the task beautifully oh and did I forget to mention I wanted it done in one day?! Nope not a couple different visits just ONE DAY oh and I was going to be shooting a television show the next day so it had to look perfect.
Jason, I don’t know how you did it my friend but you did! He was so kind and gracious, he listened to all of my wants/​needs/​questions/​concerns and gave me results better than I could have dreamed of!!! The compliments that I have been getting on my hair has blown me away. Ladies I’ve gotten the «you look like beyonce» comment about 10 times now! People have asked time and time again who did my hair and they go on and on about how the color is the most beautiful blonde they’ve ever seen and how whoever did it nailed it.
Jason was so patient with my hair and really listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered that. He did not rush and made me feel special.
I love love love my hair I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect color. Thank you so much Jason for everything it was an amazing experience :)

Amazing talent! Jason is a caring and talented hair dresser. My daughter’s hair is beyond gorgeous and healthy since we have been coming to him. Long, thick and unmanageable has transformed into healthy and vibrant hair all at the hands of Jason.
His caring nature is simply warm to be around. He has a beautiful blend of education and fun and makes the time fly by. He only takes one client at a time which makes his level of attention and detail the best as they come. He will be in our lives for many years to come!

I’ve been seeing Jason at Salon Serendipity for relaxing/​straightening since moving to San Diego last summer.
I have uncommonly difficult hair to manage and relax. I also have a LOT of hair. Jason truly understands how to tame rough African-​American hair. He spends the time to get it right and I never feel as though he is rushing through the appointment. He is gentle with my scalp, is meticulous in his preparation, and is skilled enough at working through my dense thicket of hair that the process is virtually painless, unlike with some of my previous stylists.
Jason possesses a tremendous knowledge of hair care and freely shares unique tips and suggestions (and he is able to clearly explain «why») throughout our appointments.
