Jay’s Car Care

I really wanted Jay to tint my car as he has such great reviews on here but when I called to make an appointment he was out of town taking care of family issues and would not be back in time. My first impression was that he was respectable and recommended me another window tinter that he trusted. Perhaps he will tint my next car when the Tesla Model 3 comes out in 2017 ;)

I took my Honda Civic to Jay’s Car Detailing for an exterior and interior detail ($ 250). The job was okay, but there were several places missed. The gear shift was not done, cleaning compound left on windows, side view mirrors not completely clean, etc. I chalked it up to a speedy job.
I contacted Jay via email and expressed my concern because I spent a pretty penny and expected a great job. He asked that I come back in order for them to correct the errors and said that he would do it himself to ensure it was detailed correctly. We were unable to meet until almost one month after the original detail. I washed my car before coming because it had a month’s worth of drive and I felt that it was my duty to bring a clean car. Because it had been a month, Jay said he would only correct the detail in exchange for a 5-​star Unilocal review before the appointment. I agreed because I had already intended to give them a good review for agreeing to correct the errors.
I went today for the appointment and the same employee who originally detailed my car was there. He was not very nice and (again) did not do a thorough job. I think the photos speak for themselves. Ultimately, I think Jay cares about customers, but not enough to truly resolve an issue. I paid a lot of money and gave a great review to a company that did a mediocre job and didn’t follow through. I wish I had taken more photos before cleaning it myself. I wonder how many of these great reviews were bought… I’m very disappointed and will not be returning.

Jay loves what he is doing and takes pride in his work. I couldn’t be happier with his services. He went above and beyond my expectations.
Jay did an interior detail on my car including shampooing the cloth seats and carpets. I was very impressed with how fast and how well Jay got everything done. Jay also washed the exterior of the car at no extra cost!
Jay operates out of a parking lot on Camino Del Rio but don’t let that deter you. Jay has all the equipment he needs to get everything done.

Jay’s work is outstanding and he’s a great, friendly guy. I brought my car here because I thought maybe some detailing would bring the color of the car back from when I first bought it. It also had a bunch of scratches and swirls which I thought would be nearly impossible to get rid of. But thanks to Jay, my car came out much better than I expected. When I went to go pick up my car, I was speechless. He brought the color back to life. It was so shiny and I’ve never seen my car looked as great as it did when I first got it. He removed a bunch of the scratches, and even cleaned a little bit of the interior + vacuumed all the dirt I had in the car, free of charge. I highly recommend anyone who wants to get their car detailed to go to Jay, you won’t be disappointed. Overall, I am very happy with the outcome and will be back. See you soon Jay!

Amazing each time. Best kept secret to turning your car into a super clean super finished auto that you can’t stop admiring. Jay is genuinely the best and surpasses your expectations.

I can’t say enough positive accolades for the care that Jay and his helper put into making my car look brand new. He has the best attitude and is a pleasure to do business with. I really like his attention to detail and his signature touch of leaving candy and a microfiber cloth for you when you pick up your car… oh and a air refreshened as well. Their location is easy to get to and I would only take my care to them! They are pretty booked… but worth waiting a little for their services!

So, I have a pug that I take with me everywhere. He sheds, a lot.
Jay was incredibly knowledgable, kind, and professional. He did the full interior and exterior and the outside of my car and both the inside and outside were sparkling. I was missing a couple of hubcaps and he had a couple extra and put them on my car free of charge!
I would absolutely ¹⁰⁄₁₀ go to Jay again. I do suggest you have someone pick you up for a couple of hours since there isn’t a waiting area, and I think he has a shuttle, too.

What an amazing job Jay and his team did. They cleaned parts of the car I forgot even existed (like the little tiny windows in front of the side-​view mirrors) as well as the big awful stain left in the trunk by the last owner (seriously, were you transporting a body?). They were extremely thorough and super pleasant. We dropped off the car at 9am and it was done around 3:30, so plan your day accordingly. Worth every penny!

Let me tell you all about this Detailing Service!!! In one word: EXCEPTIONAL!!! From the time I arrived to the time my car was finished I received the Classiest, most Outstanding service above what I expected.
I live in LA but since I was in San Diego, I decided to try this place. I had read other Unilocal reviews and knew that they were respected and appreciated as a top-​notch service but I had no idea! When I got there, he explained everything they would be doing to my car. They hand waxed my car, cleaned my rims to a point where they were cleaner than when I got my car (I bought it used), they cleaned my dash and wood interior to a glossy clean and even the inside part between the seat and the middle of the car where you buckle your seat belt was clean! Not only that, he cleaned the part of my carpet on the inside of the doors where everyone steps in to get in the car AND… HE CLEANED MY ENGINE… who does that? REMARKABLE!
On top of all that, during the cleaning, I was able to be shuttled to the nearby mall to take care of all my very much needed shopping and they called me and picked me up when my car was ready.
The final touches… he left candy and mints in my cup holder for me to enjoy on my way back to LA. My next TWO HOUR DRIVE will be WELL WORTH it for this amazing detail service! Oh and not to mention the DAY I got back to LA we had a severe rainstorm for the rest of the week and when the storm ended my car was STILL FLAWLESS! He must have really got into the grooves of my car with that waxing lol!

I got my car fully detailed by Jay, and his team and they did an amazing job! You can tell jay really cares about his business and his customers. He strives to do a good job, and leaves you with a car cleaning kit, air freshener, and candy. Absolutely great, detail oriented service. I will be back!

I didn’t think my BMW could ever look like this again. Jay’s attention to detail is incredible. I went with the top of the line detail for the outside and inside and my car looks like it did the day I bought it. I highly recommend Jay’s Car Care!

Took both my own and my wife’s car to Jay. I used a Groupon for his both interior and exterior detail. He was very meticulous in his work and I feel like he gave us 2 brand new cars. He cares about his customers and works to make your car look great. I will be using his business in the future.

Jay and his team did an awesome interior detail for me today! He’s a very nice guy, very professional, courteous and my car looks awesome! Plus, he went above and beyond with a few extras, including wiping down the area under the hood and left us some fun little candies, a microfiber cloth and antibacterial hand gel. He also gave us a ride to the Mission Valley mall since we didn’t have another car.

Super friendly from the get go when I called on the phone, Jay wants to make sure you get what you want and leave happy. He’s very thorough. We just got our car detailed last week. Met with Jay himself. He was amazingly friendly and very upfront about what was going to happen with our car. Dropped it off and came back later.
Car was SIGNIFICANTLY better than when we left it! They did one of the best jobs (if not THE best) I’ve had done to our car.
We did it through a Groupon and now a little sad that we did. He deserves every penny he charges.

Brought my 07 sedan in first for a Mini Detail. It came out brand new! Like… whoa, that car’s clean!
But I wasn’t convinced so I brought in my 04 SUV for a Full Detail.
OK, talk about AWESOME! Jay probably rubbed magic on my car, because I couldn’t stop stroking the 10 year old paint surface, which was now smoother than a baby’s bottom… and shinier too. From inside the car, I couldn’t tell if my windows were rolled up or down.
Got a 3^rd car going in to see him soon. Can’t wait to see what he does with that one.
Wish I had more cars to bring in so I can see Jay transform them! Glad to have you taking care of my cars, Jay!

It’s rare to find a business with so many 5 star reviews. Jay’s Car Care deserves all of them. I have tried other car detail places and never have I encountered someone so genuinely interested in pleasing the customer.
Jay listens carefully to every concern you have before he does anything. He will explain step by step what he does to your satisfaction. And after he is done, if you happen to find something he missed, he will gladly resolve any issue you mention to him.
I highly recommend Jay’s Car Care to anyone who expects the best quality and professional service.

It is with great sadness that I am not being able to give Jay’s Car Care 5 stars, as much as I really like Jay. I give his personality and enthusiasm 5 stars, but his attention to detail and attendance leaves a lot to be desired.
My first Standard Full Interior and Exterior detailing job was in 2012, back when Jay had a mobile business. We set the earliest appointment since he said he doesn’t do full details in the afternoon. So with me having to wake up much earlier than usual, he arrived 5 – 10 minutes late. He called me out when the car was ready, he was showing me the interior, where he detected he had missed some spots which he cleaned up right away. I pointed out some more obvious looking stains that remained on my leather seats and he cleaned that up too. The exterior of my car was immaculate, though! He told me he even cleaned the engine and buffed out some light scratches. So despite the tardiness and overlooking minor details, I was pretty satisfied.
As Jay was getting ready to leave, Jay’s car wouldn’t start so my bf gave him a jump start. He promised that he would give us a great discount for our next service, that he would not forget this occurrence.
I purchased an Amazon Deal for a Standard Full Interior and Exterior Auto Detail with it expiring August 16^th. I contacted him a week and a half in advance to make an appointment before the voucher expired. He didn’t seem to remember me so I reminded him that his car had broke down at our residence. I easily remember the person who helped jump start my car, but he said he didn’t remember. Oh well. Besides, he did detail hundreds of cars after that day. Or his car breaks down every customer’s house.
So we were set to come in a day before the voucher expired. However, I got a call from him stating that he’s terribly sorry, but they overbooked and would like to reschedule for next week if possible. If not, they would squeeze us in. Since I didn’t want the detail to be a rushed job, we rescheduled.
Next week comes, and Jay calls my phone that morning (even though my bf left a message leaving his number as the contact) that one of his employees didn’t show up and that the only other employee was working by himself while Jay was unable to work due to a physical therapy appointment. This is perfectly understandable as unexpected events can occur, but I received the message while I was at work and my bf was already there at Jay’s waiting to drop off his car. To his credit, Jay DID show
up a bit later than the scheduled time and rescheduled bf for the following week again, along with another customer that was there waiting as well.
The third week finally comes and the car is dropped off. Jay provides a shuttle service to his customers, which is nice since the detail takes about 3 hours. Jay said he would pick bf up at 3pm when the car was ready and verified the cell number to call when he dropped bf off. At around 3:20 there is still no contact from Jay, so bf called him for an update and Jay said he was «just about to give him a call»…Hmm. Jay picks him up and shows bf the exterior of the car and when opening the door to show him the inside, it was still dirty. Jay was surprised to see the interior wasn’t cleaned so he quickly cleaned it right then and there. Bf also had to point out several large spots on the arm rests, head rests, and door panels of the interior which were then cleaned immediately.
The result? It seemed more like a Semi-​full Exterior Detail. The rims were still semi-​covered in brake dust (which Jay said it was too stained to get out completely) and the rear bumper still had a layer of dirt.
We didn’t realize that the rear seating area weren’t done until I had to sit there yesterday (we’re a 2 person household and it was the first time someone has sat back there since the detail). We also discovered that the trunk compartment was not vacuumed or cleaned at all (first time needing to access it since the detail). With us discovering this 2 weeks later, Jay will probably believe that it was us that dirtied it… At this point, bf and I are both fed up with the effort and time that it took to finally get his car «professionally» detailed, only to end up with a partially cleaned car that we just decided to clean it ourselves.
I suspect that the detailing job would have been much better if Jay had detailed it himself for the whole 3 hours, like he did my car. But seeing how Jay grew as a business (which I am happy for) maybe the quality diminished with the growing number of cars coming in. All in all, this whole experience left me quite disappointed. I initially was going to give a 1 star rating but I will give 2 stars for the better previous experience that I had with Jay’s Car Care.
