We specialize in high quality barbequed and smoked meats, handcrafted pickles, salads and slaw. Some favorites include our signature Tri-​tip, BBQ pork and our famous garlic dill pickles.

We support local farming by using local ingredients when available.

History

Established in 2013.

With over 25 combined years in the food service and bar industry, John and Ashley Prusinovski have taken their skills to the street. While fine tuning their ideas for almost a decade, Johnny Jensen’s is the brainchild of two dedicated foodies and nightlife aficionados. Amazing on site catering and simple delivery system are available now… and a location is coming very soon.

Best tri-​tip and pulled pork sandwiches I’ve ever had! I always get a side of their garlic fries with cheese and home made ranch. Everything is home made and the service is excellent. Would definitely recommend!

My friend and I were craving some BBQ so we said, why not!
Wait, no ribs on your online delivery menu (Eat24)???
So we got over that and decided to get Hawg Wings and an order of regular BBQ wings. We got a call quickly after from the Bring It To Me (their 3rd party delivery service) and was told that they no longer serve the regular wings on their menu. Okay, disappointed, but we’ll just go with chicken tenders with BBQ sauce instead. Another call … the Hawg wings won’t be back in stock until either tonight or sometime tomorrow. Well, we would like food during the lunch timeframe and I’m not going to try to order something else.
Order cancelled.
1. Update your menu.
2. Be in stock. If McDonald’s said their fries were out of stock, the world would explode.
Don’t lose new customers because of these 2 simple facts.

Horrible experience with trying to place an order for lunch delivery. I called the day before (yesterday) and the employee who picked up would not take my order, but instead referred me to the online ordering site, which is done through the Unilocal page or
. I placed the order at 9am this morning, for noon delivery, throgh Unilocal.I did not receive confirmation from my order until 11:30am, and it was confirmed from
. So i thought «All Good». Then at 12:30pm, after waiting patiently for my food for 3 other employees, including myself, I received a Cancel Order Email. I immediately called and they claimed to have tried to call me, but I Ieft both my cell phone and work phone and never received a call nor a voicemail. I also never received any email besides the confirmation email and then the cancel email 1 hr later. They also both claim to not have my email address, yet from the email i received for the confirmation and the cancel, i know this is a lie or their system is so messed up you should not order from them. Between Johnny Jensen’s and BringItToMe, they are both blaming each other. I would not recommend anyone use either company as they do not have a grasp on customer service and have not even offered anything to make it right. This is my 1st experience with both companies, and now it is my last.

No. no. no. no. I am from the Carolinas and there was something seriously just wrong about the sauce. The meats were cooked well but overall, it was just wrong. Still hunting for good BBQ. Sigh.

Solid food… amazing deal for the price, 5 star value, but I can’t in good conscious give out a 5 star review when the food isn’t nearly perfect. For the money however, you can’t go wrong, John is a great dude, and this place great when you want to eat well but not drop a lot of money.

I thought this atmosphere was worth my first Unilocal review. Employees provide an euphoric atmosphere. BBQ burrito drew me in. Highly recommend for those over the fake gaslamp atmosphere.

Wow. Wow wow!
Im a bbq conesiur and this just might be the best I’ve ever had I had beef ribs… Hard to find good beef since it comes from the river or prime rib area of the cow. But this place extra meaty rubbed perfect with giant sides for a very good price I’m afraid to let the secret out

It’s hard to find a place with proper on the bone-​in beef ribs so finding this place on Unilocal was a nice surprise.
We ordered a full rack and the people next to us commented that it looked like a Brontosaurus was on our plate, and it was hard to disagree. In fact they should rename this place the Jensen’s meet the Flinstones given the cartoonish portions of meat here.
A half rack will set you back $ 12 and a full rack is $ 21 (both come with a side) which is great value for a downtown joint considering you’re getting half a cow’s worth of meat for the price of two watered down drinks normally.
Their menu offers a lot of unique choices that I’d love to try out but it’s hard to justify coming here and not ordering a dinosaur’s worth of meat.

Do you like beef with your fat? If so, this is your place. Now, if you’re like the rest of us and prefer more meat than fat, you may wanna pass on this place. I’ve ordered from here a handful of times and with each, I’m been surprised by just how much more bone and fat I’ve received.
The sauces provided are good. Not complaints there and I believe the mustard sauce is a surprise winner. The sides are, well, sides. I’m missing what others are enjoying.

Came here specifically for the Beef Ribs and we were not disappointed. We ordered a full slab which came with two sides (we opted for fries and coleslaw) and it was just enough for two of us. The ribs were served with two types of sauces, one mustard-​like sauce and the other more like a traditional BBQ sauce. Both were really good, although surprisingly I preferred the mustard. I was also curious about their «homemade garlic pickles» and I HAD to try those as well. The server was kind enough to give me a sample of it (a few slices) rather than me ordering a whole jar. It was off the hook! If I wasn’t flying home I would’ve bought a jar to take back with me. At any rate, we both enjoyed our meals, the server was super friendly, and now we know this place exists if we are ever in the area and have a taste for beef ribs again. It’s also located inside a bar which is an added bonus.

Came here with a hankering for some BBQ with my bf, and we were not disappointed. The pork rockets were fantastic, and the dry rub ribs were amazing. JJ’s is conveniently located inside of a bar, and the food is reasonably priced. Looking forward to coming back!

This was the most amazing pulled pork sandwich I ever had. I wanted to sample everything. My favorite turned out to be the burger. The flavor was so delicious. I had to sample all of their homemade pickles and WOW!!! We ordered a case of pickles to take back to Redding, CA with us. The service was awesome and atmosphere was way cool. Highly recommend Johnny Jensen’s BBQ. Great people, too!!! Best BBQ in San Diego!

Went to Tivoli bar downtown and that is where Johnny is located. All I can say homemade pickles and you can buy a jar or two. Tri tip awesome and so was burger. Johnny is very into his food and knows what the customer likes. Go check him out anything you order you will like. make sure you get extra pickles.

Awesome food and good people. Johnny Jensons just took care of a friends Birthday party last night. The Carnie Asada and Chicken street tacos were amazing. Best part– the 4 different kinds of homemade salsa. The pineapple salsa was my favorite. Here’s to hoping they jar and sell it soon! I’m looking forward to tasting their BBQ as well.
