yak yak, i went to the clinic was inside the store, the front desk technician was better than the doctor, but the doctor was not helpful at all, he looked at the young’s in wearied way, he was talking about aging because he was old, so he wants his patients to be like him, he saw my eyes were healthy told me hmm you have a good sight, and he starts making experiment on my eyes he pointed heat light inside my eye wanted me to look to that light, I felt burning my eye and I have terrible pain right away, he didn’t care at all he said i wanted to check the back of the eyes??? he also sits very close to face almost touching my face and he was touching my face pushing hard with the plastic tool the one to hide one eye to check the eye site made me uncomfortable at all, it was yak yak yak, i left without asking about anything i left all the signed paper and ran away i was scared, my eyes in the eve was burning me and red, and i went to the ER because my eyes were red and could not open my eyes, no further info, do not go to him if you have healthy eye do not, if so you’ll leave with an unhealthy eyes.

Dr. Kimball is great! Very kind and personable, and also very knowledgeable about the eye. He was able to explain what was going in with my eyes in a way that made sense to me, and I feel I walked away with a better understanding of my eyes and eye health.
I also have to say everyone else in the office was extremely nice and very helpful. I did not encounter one person working there who was not kind or helpful to me in some way. Overall a very pleasant experience. Absolutely recommended!

Dr. Kimball is awesome. He was observant enough to miss what other optometrists have missed. Because of his observations, I was able to see a specialist for diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. Had he not been suspicious of something he saw, the condition might not have been discovered until it was too late. The other reason I continue to return is the office staff. Ursula is the BEST optician I have ever known, and since I’ve been wearing glasses for almost 50 years, I have seen a lot of them! She is friendly, helpful, polite and professional. I highly recommend this business.

I’ve been coming here for the last 5 years for my eye appt. and I will not go anywhere else. The staff is absolutely amazing! I always feel welcome here and they take great care of my needs and explain very well my insurance benefits. Dr. Kimball is also great, very professional and just the kind of Doctor that you can have a more personal conversation with while he checks your eyes. His recommendations and work are outstanding. Thanks to him I don’t have serious scars in my cornea. I’m very lucky to have them down the street from my place. I would give these guys a 10 star review if I could!

I will admit the support staff is very friendly but unfortunately I have had to spend several hours making up for this office’s mistakes. First, the lady who checked my insurance said I was not covered for the exam although I knew I was. Sure enough, once I made a call to my insurance company, turns out I was correct. Second, the first doctor I saw gave me the wrong prescription. I figured this out AFTER I received my glasses and tried them on. I knew something was off because they made my dizzy. I had to return to the office and saw a second doctor who verified the first prescription was wrong and gave me a new one. Luckily, at this point, I had to get my contact lens prescription and since this office wanted to basically charge me a whole new exam fee (by the way, other offices do not charge you separately if you need both an eyeglass and contact lens prescription), I went to an entirely new doctor. Turns out the revised prescription from Kimball & Van Hoose was WRONG as well! Thank goodness the new doctor caught this and saved me yet another trip and wasted time getting my glasses. So 3 months after my initial visit, I finally have my new glasses with the correct prescription. In my opinion, not at all what I expected given the reviews I had read about this office.

My appointment with Dr. Kimball was terrifying. He kept telling me all these horror stories about detached retinas, etc. and they always seemed to happen to «young women» like me. I was so freaked out by the time I left!
THEN, I came back a few weeks later and ordered a pair of glasses and they told me it would take 4 – 7 days. That was January 7 and I still haven’t received them on Jan 30. They didn’t even call to explain the delay… I’ve had to call them two times to see what the deal was, and they just say they haven’t come in yet.
So basically, if you need glasses urgently, as many people do when they order glasses, I would not trust this office.
I will say that the girls in the office are super nice, so it sucks that everything else went so poorly.

Came here after being weirded-​out by LensCrafters technicians who made me feel like my eyeballs were going to rot right out of their sockets if I didn’t get my eye exam *right away* before the 1-​year mark, or pay for fancy retina scans that my insurance doesn’t cover.
This place is so relaxing compared to all of that. I came in for a weekday appointment, the exam was very straight forward, no pressure to buy glasses or sunglasses I didn’t want, and the Doc and his staff were all very professional and unhurried. I’ll be back next year.

Everyone here’s so nice, helpful, and caring! I called in trying to make a very last minute appointment and asked if they were accepting new patients. Mind you, they were closing at 5pm that day and I called in around 4:30pm. The receptionist asked if I could make it in 10 minutes, and sure enough I made it in time, greeted by Dr. Kimball at my arrival!
I felt like my vision was worsening because my glasses had broke 3 months prior (my lovely brother smashed it with his basketball), so Kimball gave me an eye exam. Though the office was very close to closing, I didn’t feel rushed. After the exam, I told him I had chronic dry eye problems, and he helped me assess that. He genuinely cared! I was on some pretty strong (and possibly dangerous drops) before, and he wanted me to get off those drops by assessing the problem. He performed a series of tests to pinpoint exactly what was causing the problem.
After Kimball finished up my visit, I was then greeted by Ursela, who then helped me with my eyeglasses! She’s the sweetest lady ever! Like I said, it was pretty much closing time, and she spent a good amount of time fitting and finding me some glasses! I told her I was going to be out of state a week and a half later and asked if she could possibly have my glasses done earlier. She said she’d really try to and had my glasses expedited from the lab. She tried to get it in a week after my visit, a few days before leaving SD, and but it was sent a day later, and she was reallly realllllly apologetic. She made a series of calls to the lab and successfully got my glasses in time: D My vision isn’t fuzzy anymore yay! Now I don’t have to zoom in on the chalkboard or slides during lecture with my camera anymore. Huzzah!
I’ve also visited Marc Van Hooses’ office in Clairmont (bc Kimball had the day off on my last visit). He comes to the UTC location about 4 times a month, and he assessed me with the right drops to pinpoint and cure my eyes! He was very nice as well, and I was also able to get an appointment in the same day at a good time as well :)

We’ve been going to them for years now and they are freakin awesome. They always succeed at making you ultra comfortable during your eye exams and are super nice people. Making an appt has always been a breeze.
I am super squeamish (blink a lot during exams) and they always are understanding and provide tender care!
They are located within Sears — I would say east of the UTC children’s playground near the kids’ train ride.
We have no reason to ever go anywhere else. They even laugh at my husband and I’s bad jokes! Haha just kidding. We know we’re funny.

I love Dr. Kimball’s practice! I’ve been getting my eyes checked by him for the last five years and am very happy with my vision. He’s friendly, helpful, considerate and very thorough. The staff at his office is great (especially Ursula, she is so considerate and helpful).
