Business Owner

Dr. David Toppi earned his dental degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale. Dr. Toppi also trained at Miami Children’s Hospital and received his specialty degree in pediatric dentistry at Nova Southeastern University. In practice since 2005, Dr. Toppi is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the San Diego County Dental Society. He remains active in the community, participating in children’s dental screenings and school educational days for oral health. In his spare time he enjoys car restoration, basketball, and tennis.

My children love love this office! I have three children and all three of them (ages 8,7 and 5) had an appointment this last week and they all looked forward to their visits. They can’t wait to go back for thier next appointment. Dr. Toppin and his staff are really nice and are very honest about treatment. I def give this office a 5 star!

If there was a six star option, I would give Lil’ Smiles it!
The place is SO kid friendly, even great for kids with sensory and developmental impairments. The staff is ABSOLUTELY incredible, they are so helpful and friendly and do a GREAT job. Minimum wait time, incredible atmosphere and Dr. Toppi is very present.

We recently moved into town after living out of state for 4 years and we were nervous about finding a good dentist since our previous pediatric dentist office was awesome. But we found it! This office took care of my 3 old daughter and my 1.5 year old year old son. I was greeted by a knowledgeable, professional and friendly receptionist. This office is paperless and you have to fill out things on an iPad, which I love because I hate having to carry papers when I have 3 little ones with me and paperwork it ends up being destroyed or lost. Dentist was punctual, caring, friendly, knowledge and professional. My kids loved the décor, and toys in the waiting area. Made waiting a breeze, everything was very clean and well maintain. I highly recommend this office, I will continue to visit this office for many years.

OK… when it comes to our children, 5 stars and a good review isn’t easily earned. However, this practice made our toddler’s (2yrs old) first dental experience relaxing and she had zero anxiety. Which floored us. Actually, our entire experience was not strenuous in any way. Making the appointment? Easy and the woman on the phone was exceptionally nice and professional.
My husband and I researched several offices and Dr. Toppi came highly recommended. However, that’s not why we chose Dr. Toppi as our toddler’s dentist. This practice is listed on intuit Demandforce, which is a service that links and verifies patient appointments with their appointment time. Which means, no fake reviews. A HUGE plus in my book. You have to be confident in your practice and customer service skills to willingly add this service to your practice. If you’re wondering, this practice has great reviews.
The office is beautiful and calming. The underwater theme is beautifully done and they have leapads, a playhouse with toys, and a touch screen gaming area for the kids. The receptionist was awesome (we were late and she still accommodated us). We didn’t wait longer than 5 minutes from check in to seeing Dr. Toppi.
Unlike most places, my husband was allowed to hold our daughter and Dr. Toppi examined her while she was in his arms (you’d be surprised how many dental practices told us our child would be restrained and we couldn’t hold her). The exam room also had screens in the ceiling and she was too busy looking at that to worry about her exam. The entire experience was relaxing and not strenuous in any way. Dr. Toppi was patient and didn’t rush the exam, which really put our daughter at ease. This place far exceeded our expectations. Thank you!!! Great job!!!

Oh my goodness. Mt sons first dentist visit and it was a great one! Loved everything about this place, from the ease of scheduling and online paperwork, to the friendly staff, amazing dentist, inviting and fun atmosphere, the quick in and out the list goes on! Definitely reccomend this place to anyone! My 13 year old god daughter was with me and said, man I wish this was my dentist!

My boys first time here. So far so good, the kids were excited and nervous but the staff and the Dr Toppi made the experience very pleasant and very personable. My boys are already asking when is their next appointment. They are even brushing their teeth without me asking because they want to use the «goody bag» they received with a new toothbrush, toothpaste and floss.

I have been bringing my daughters here since we moved to California. Simply a great experience each and every time! The staff is extremely nice and my girls never hesitate when it’s dentist appointment time. Have read horror stories about pediatric dentist offices and this is so far from that! They love getting a new toothbrush each time they come along with the other goodies. Bring your kid (s) here; you won’t be disappointed!

Had a great experience here form start to finish! The doctor and staff are all so friendly and super informative every step of the way. My 6 year old son had a serious procedure done. The Anesthesiologist was very thorough and called prior with instructions and the same evening of the procedure for a check up. I also had no billing surprises, which was the best part! The doctor was very honest and caring and gave us his personal number after the procedure in case we had any concerns. We definitely found a great pediatric dentist for our child! That’s pretty hard to come by now a days, so we’re really happy we found lil Smiles :-)

I’ve been here twice with my 1yr old. The office is very clean and kid friendly. The doctor was nice. They don’t really do much for a 1yr old. He counted her teeth and put fluoride on them. I feel like it is a little pricy for them not doing much of anything. But I really don’t know the price point of how much a «check up» cost for a 1yr old. I will prob stick with them unless I find something better.

My toddler’s first dental appt went really well. There are video games in the waiting room to entertain him. There are monitors displaying kid friendly movies on the ceiling. The dental appt for a 2 year old is really fast. Dr. Toppi just checks LO’s teeth and paints fluoride on it afterwards. The appt took less than 30 mins. We wasn’t offered a toy by the assistant so we asked Dr. Toppi for a sticker BC LO was eyeing the Thomas sticker.

My kids LOVE coming to Lil’ Smiles! I have five children ages 9 months, 5, 6, 8 & 12 and the older kids always tell me when they leave that they can’t wait to come back. I’ve never heard this from them prior to coming to Lil’ Smiles.
When you first walk in you notice the cute underwater theme. There’s a lot of activities for the children to do in the waiting room including a play area, movies and video games, but you won’t be waiting long. I also love how quick and thorough they are at the same time. For two children we were out of there within 35 minutes which is so nice when I’m taking the kids out of school and taking off work. I also appreciated the changing area in the bathroom for my baby. It looked like it had never been used.
Being a busy mom I love how the office is very up to date with technology. I receive and can confirm appointments by text message and they were responsive same day to my email.
Overall I highly recommend Dr. Toppi and his great staff!

I love Dr. Toppi and his staff! We came from Super Dentists, our pediatrician told us they were a good dentist. We had a terrible experience there and I called around looking for another dentist. We were seen quickly by Dr. Toppi. The office is super cute and fun, my daughter looks forward to coming in. The first time we went in he did a consultation with us letting us know about the work my daughter needed. She needed some fillings and since she was 3 they do it under sedation. I talked to his office staff who gave me some great ideas about how to afford the
uncovered insurance costs. We just got the work done a couple days ago and my daughter is up and running with no pain w/​the exception of a sore throat. The only reason I gave 4 stars is bc you aren’t allowed in back when your child is getting the procedure done under sedation. I don’t like leaving my child in any doctors/​dentist office alone so that bothered me. However, I’d send anyone I know with a child to Dr. Toppi and his great staff!

My kids absolutely love coming here! They range in age from 1 to 8 and they all have fun at this dentist. Dr. Toppi is great with kids. The office staff is very welcoming and polite. I can’t say enough great things about the office and its atmosphere. By far the best children’s dentist we’ve ever been to.
Our appointments always run on time. They are very efficient and don’t run crazy far bah unde schedule like a lot of places I’ve been.

My daughter is always excited when it’s time to go the orthodontist! Lil Smiles has relieved the pain in her mouth from over crowding and she’s over the moon about her sparkly retainer. :) Would definitely recommend this office to friends.

This is an amazing dentistry! Dr. Toppi is so professional and was great with my 16 month old son, and sweet. He took his time with checking out my son’s teeth, and made sure all my questions were answered. The office could not have been more child-​friendly too, sea theme, my son thought he was on an underwater adventure… so cute.
Staff was also super friendly and processional.
We will be back for sure, and I will definitely be referring my friends who have children!

Love this place!
The waiting room is a lot of fun for all ages and all the toys are working and in good condition, unlike some places where half the toys are dirty and broken.
The bathrooms are clean and well thought out. The have wet wipes for my little guy and they have a changing table and poopy diaper bags for diaper changes. I love when you can tell that a business THINKS about what a parent would need and want!
I like that everything is digital and we don’t have to sit and fill out a ton of paperwork.
The staff did awesome with my one year old on her first visit and my 3 year old loved the tv’s on the ceiling.
We have bounced around to a few different dentists looking for a favorite and we finally have! We will be coming to see Dr Toppi as long as we are in San Diego :)

I highly recommend getting a second opinion if you have gone to this practice.
My daughter has severe asthma, she is 6 and I was told the only way the dentist does any type of dental work is with sedation (which insurance doesn’t cover). Knowing that my daughters asthma wasn’t well controlled he was willing to do the procedure anyways trying to convince me that it is fine to knock her out. I went to another practice who did the procedure for $ 2000 less! Hope this review helps someone and saves them unwanted out of pocket expenses.

Love this place they are very attentive and can usually get my son to sit still and get his teeth check out even though he doesn’t like going to the dentist, with the exception of brushing his teeth and that is only because we hadn’t introduced our son to electric toothbrushes so he doesn’t like to use unknown objects. We have been going here since my son was one he is four now and I love that doctor toppi always see us.

I’ve been bringing my boys here for three years now and we love Lil’ Smiles. The staff has pretty much stayed the same — low turnover rates are always a good sign! They are AWESOME with special needs kids — my oldest is moderately autistic and my younger one has anxiety, and they always look forward to going to the dentist.
Routine checkups usually only take us about 10 – 15 minutes, depending on how cooperative the kid is ;)
The assistants are always quick, friendly and helpful. Dr. Toppi is amazing with kids and is very comfortable to talk to — some dentists’ I’ve been to are very condecending and talk down to the parents — he is not one of those dentists. My kids are cursed with bad teeth genes and I hardly ever let them drink soda or eat super sugary foods, we brush and floss twice a day and we are currently keeping four cavities in baby teeth at bay.
