Lucera Apartments At UTC

Only living here for just over a year to save money to buy elsewhere and you certainly get what you pay for. Yes there are two pools and hot tubs but they are usually filthy, I even contacted the HOA to ask when they get cleaned for summer use and he said they are cleaned all year which literally made me laugh out loud! There are tennis courts but they’ve been closed for repair all year. Similarly with squash courts, closed. The basketball court and volleyball court look distressed with nets all torn and patchy ground. There are BBQs around but they are pretty gross, nobody cleans them, last time we looked it was full of ants, tasty!
The neighbors I have met have been less than charming. You have to share a garage, that is if your neighbor is capable of parking in their own half so you can get in. Even when they do manage to park they are constantly opening their door into my car leaving a beautiful collection of mini scratches. Don’t bother asking them to be considerate anymore after sending an obese bf round to intimidate me for bringing it up.
The neighbors above have parties every Friday and Saturday, which doesn’t bother us that much compared to their dog which pisses over the balcony onto the two floors below as they are too lazy to let the poor thing out. Again, told HOA who should fine them but no idea if anything happened since they never paid to replace our piss damaged stuff. Now we don’t/can’t use the balcony as it stinks even after many attempts to clean it. It has stopped pissing over the balcony but instead has barking matches with all the other bored, trapped dogs in the building during the day.
There were obviously security measures in place when built but they do not work since we’ve seen them. The main door is always open, a back door was smashed in for months and now the replacement door is too big for the frame and doesn’t close either. That means that thefts from the corridor are common, from parcels to doormats, no idea if it’s outsiders coming in but wouldn’t be surprised if the neighbors were thieving stuff.
The train goes every 20 mins ish but with windows shut its not that bad and you know the location when you move. Freight trains at night are really loud and go on a long time but they are probably on a par noise wise with the horrendously old air con systems right below the bedroom windows that growl all day and all night.
The finish of the apartment will be dependent on the owner and whether they’ve been bothered to update the fixtures since it was built in the 80s. Mine has not been updated or well cared for by the owners or previous tenants, it’s cleaner now than when we moved in.
UTC is generally overpriced and there is a big student population although not really party hard types so that I’ve seen. I thought it was just cheaper at Lucera due to the train but actually the whole vibe from standard of upkeep to other residents is completely shabby, I cannot wait to move out and into my house!

I lived here for an entire school year (’13-’14) for UCSD. This is a condominium community, so your living experience will vary slightly depending on your landlord. I believe most of the condos are 2 master bedroom suite style (2BR, 2BA) with a kitchen, living room area and dining room area (conjoined) and a small outside patio/​balcony. We lived on the 2^nd floor of a 3-​story building that was at the very east end. Our condo included a washer and dryer. These condos usually come with a shared garage spot. H.O.A. spends more time servicing the landscape than the actual living space and the communal facilities.
Pros:
–quiet (little to no parties, except for planes and train-​see below, can hear upstairs a little bit)
–inside the actual condo is nice (depending on landlord upkeep) our’s had A/​C
–gym is not usually crowded (free to yell on lifts)
–plenty of guest parking
–tennis courts
–some scenery and connected jogging trail
–15 minute walk to UTC
–close to 805 freeway entrance
–spacious elevators
–dead garden snakes
–Jacuzzi
Cons:
–pricier than places closer to campus
–next to train tracks
–no parties nearby
–high school across the ravine so can hear events like football games (but not an actual disturbance)
–gym consists of one bench press rack, one barbell, sufficient amount of plates, random sets of dumbbells, and cardio machines
–room designated as laundry area in each building is actually empty with no machines
–beat up and dirty basketball court, volleyball court, and squash courts
To be fair: I haven’t tried the swimming pools or sauna (seem sketchy because there doesn’t seem to be any professional maintenance.
UCSD student notes:
–farthest building to 204 bus stop takes at least 10 min walk
–20 minute MINIMUM bus commute to UCSD campus (avg 30 — 50 min)

Lived in here for 2 years. This place is the right place to live in UTC
Pros:
1. nice environment. Located in a valley and the air is very good.
2. Plenty of parking
3. Basketball court available in the community
4. Clean and good maintaince
5. quiet. hardly any students around.
Cons:
1. Walls are kind of thin. I can hear my neighbor Making Luv in the middle of the night. The neighbor under my apt sometimes complain about my footsteps and I do not run, I walk carefully and I weigh only 130 LBS
overall this place is great.

VERY NICE. The hallways smell like a boutique hotel so I always feel like I’m on vacation when I walk in here.
LANDSCAPING is well kept. One of the few places in the area where you can look outside and see wilderness area. Don’t worry about the coaster (train) or miramar military airport, you rarely hear either unless your out by the pool.
POOL AREA is awesome, view is great, and it feels very clean. Also, the jacuzzi is pretty big so you can easily sit in with other residents. The sauna has not worked since the first day we got here 2 years ago although they have changed the panel.
BAD NEWS is the Workout room is very limited but enough to get the job done. Also, whoever hired the stone setter did not use the right adhesive material.
PARKING can get rough sometimes. There is always a spot no matter what day it is but you may have to walk a bit.
AMENITIES include 2 tennis courts, Basketball court, volleyball court, swimming pool, jacuzzi, club room, sauna (does not work), 4 or 5 gas BBQ’s.
LOCATION is great being walking distance to the UTC mall as well as another small trip mall with lots of food choices and a CVS. Also, 805 freeway is a quick on ramp going Southbound. Don’t hit it ever at around 5pm or you will be jammed up.

Been living here for over 5 years now and love it! The views are unmatched and the layout really maximizes the space available. I also have a corner unit overlooking the canyon and very pleasant neighbors so I may have the hook up in location. The basic amenities are all covered, there are great running/​Hiking trails out back, and the gym is small but has the basics.
Only negative I have had been some issues with the HOA. Lots of calls to get the simplest task completed, but at least they do get it handled eventually. Overall the best place I have lived in UTC for an unbeatable price, especially if you like a serene and peaceful setting.

We just moved into this complex just over a month ago. For the most part, it’s a nice quiet area (close to the 805 freeway) with lots of lush landscaping and plenty of places to roam. Negatives: Some of the building structures have been neglected. The commuter train which is 150′ away from the building runs every 30 minutes, but you get use to it. Garage is shared with another neighbor so if it’s left open, your personal belongings is fair game and run the risk of being stolen. BIG NEGATIVE: owner rents out the unit above ours as a vacation home so you will hear tourists who treat the place like a hotel — heavy walkers not to mention kids running and jumping off of beds. I’ve had to go upstairs to tell them to keep the noise down but they pretend they don’t understand English. I’m about to contact the HOA and report this chronic problem. Again, great place to live but only if you are on the top floor.
